321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I re-buy in? on: April 25, 2013, 06:18:27 AM
Not that it mattered, though. Since you earn so much by buy/hold, as Vladimir does, all trading is just a icing on the bonus.

You don't earn anything by buying and holding, you earn by taking profits (selling); unrealized gains are worth exactly zero.

this is fair. the buy-and-hold-forever crowd has got a lot going for them. they trade unknown, possibly 100% risk for unknown, possibly many-orders-of-magnitude-large-returns.

Basically, they are playing roulette.

324  Economy / Speculation / Re: can BTC ever return to significantly below $100? on: April 23, 2013, 10:58:08 PM
no

Nope. Not ever.

.........EVER.

Even after the universe suffers heat death, and the last piece of matter has decayed into nothingness, bitcoin will live on...like Jesus or 80's rock.

All Hail Bitcoin!!

Yes, it can (and on a long enough time scale, will) fall below $100. The question is when.

The Apple-hate circle-jerk is strong here too!

They are tools; not your identity. Use tools that work for you and stop being goddamn assholes.

Why the fuck hasnt coinabul gotten a scammer tag yet? What is this, the 5th or 6th complaint on a matter of months?
328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition to Apple: Allow Bitcoin wallets on iPhone on: April 22, 2013, 01:17:49 AM
Uhh, I already have a BTC wallet on my apple phone...blockchain app, pretty sure it was free too.

329  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to make $10,000 with just $60 on: April 20, 2013, 05:41:17 AM
This is not my prediction of it being $5000, this is just my proof of this bet being stupid:

The OP wants to get us into this bet:
When the site is still up and the price for BCs is $10.000-> you have $10.000 (aka doubled your bet)
When the site is down and the price for BCs is $10.000-> you have $0 (total loss)
When Bcs are worth less -> you have $0 (total loss)

If you just leave your 0.5 in your pocket:
When BCs are worth $10000 -> you have $5000
When BCs are worth $61-$9999 -> you still made a fine win
When BCs are worth less -> at least you have still something

The bet would double your stakes for a chance of way less than 50% and a long waiting time (years).
You are better off playing Sathoshi Dice with that sum than taking the bet. Even playing in a casino would be.

This. It's a bad bet.

It seems like every week a new poorly conceived bet pops up in the speculation forum. Roll Eyes
330  Economy / Speculation / Re: Irrational on: April 19, 2013, 11:49:07 PM
Right now everything is pure speculation and media hype. Things haven't changed all that drastically from 2011 yet all of a sudden it's worth over $100.

This.
331  Economy / Speculation / Re: All my friends now interested in bitcoin !! on: April 19, 2013, 09:32:35 PM
I had a friend ask me about BTC the other day:

Undecided "Do you know anything about those bit-whatevers"?

 Grin "Actually, yes...yes I do"

He was interested in the anonymity aspect, and had only heard a small blurb an the news about it. I (of course) explain a bit about how it works, the basic protocol, ways to get money in and out of the system, and so forth.  He seemed really interested in it until I dropped the bomb on him.....the insane volatility.

Huh "So what happens if I buy, say, $100 worth of bitcoins and the market tanks?"

Grin "Well, that money is gone unless the market recovers"

Undecided "I think I'll just stick to prepaid credit cards"

 Grin "...probably a smart move"

So yeah, I talked him out of it...I cant let my friends lose money in an obviously over inflated market just because they want to buy bullets or whatever without a paper trail.

332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 19, 2013, 02:57:59 PM
Yup. I dont think we will be hitting or surpassing the old ATH, for a good long time.  We will probably get fairly close though, and likely within a couple days.

However, at the first sign of another crash, people will be abandoning ship en masse, only this time it'll be faster and harder.  Within a few weeks the volatility swung from <15% to 20% to 50% at the time of the crash...I wouldnt be surprised to see a 70%-75% drop in value this time (and if we get that low, we wont be recovering for a while).
333  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 19, 2013, 06:23:44 AM
The price is shooting up an an unbelievable rate, and forum member are already getting euphoric again.

...what could possibly go wrong?
334  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are living the fastest growth ever! on: April 19, 2013, 06:17:07 AM
Yeah, that's not a good thing. It wasn't sustainable last time, and it wont be this time either.
335  Economy / Speculation / Re: R.I.P. double digits on: April 19, 2013, 03:39:43 AM
About an hour ago there was the last chance to see BTC/USD rate bellow 100 on MtGox.
No more double digits ever.

Sorry, proudhon. Sad

Doubt it. It's this kind of blind optimism that got BTC to 266, and it might just do so again, but the end result is inevitable.

This.
336  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 18, 2013, 09:24:14 PM
So how do we get from here to there? I think the only real answer may be, unfortunately, speculation.

No, we need less speculation, way less volatility, we need to make the blockchain scaleable to be able to handle an exponentially higher amount of transactions (as it is now, a single gambling site [satoshi dice] has clogged the blockchain to an almost unusable amount), we need a user friendly way to get money into and out of the system, a better exchanges that are trustworthy and can handle increased volume, a non poisonous community that doesnt allow scammers and ponzis to flourish (the lending board was an abomination last time I checked), increased and ubiquitous vendor support, ....and thats just the tip of the iceburg.

What we dont need (assuming we want BTC to succeed as an experiment) is for BTC to be just a speculative tool for internet nerds, that gets pumped and dumped repeatedly until everyone loses interest.
337  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 18, 2013, 03:24:46 PM
My beliefs do not have to be validated by you.

Who is trying to validate your beliefs? This doesn't even have anything to do with BTC....You said that you would put money into a depreciating asset as a store of value.  That makes no sense. Period.

How exactly are you storing value in a asset that is losing value?

I see why you have the sweet ignore.

Yeah, the cult doesnt tolerate dissent....or you know, facts.
338  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 18, 2013, 03:05:38 PM

In this religion, however, I suppose it is heretical to make those kinds of statements.

Welcome to the Cult of Bitcoin, your black tracksuit and kool-aid awaits...
339  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yup, still feeling bearish. on: April 18, 2013, 02:56:57 PM
You say that you are using it for a store of value, but you also say you would continue sinking money into it even if the price declined for a decade or more without sign of recovery?

That doesn't make sense. At all.
340  Economy / Economics / Re: A message from Wallstreet on: April 18, 2013, 06:18:17 AM
Lets say I have $500, how can I buy those stocks on E-trade when back in the day when I wanted to get involved in Forex and E-Trade they wanted something like $1000 minimum just to get involved? I didn't have the money to even start. Then you have the various tax issues to deal with.

Sharebuilder accounts are free with no minimum.
