aapl is only down $6.61 (1.73%) and most of the loss was from afterhours trading last night. heres how it is doing today compared to s&p and dow for perspective:

judging from the way it is trending, aapl will outperform the market today.

also, theres a thread about this already: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=39127.msg479824#new
1322  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Steve Jobs resigns on: August 25, 2011, 02:53:50 PM
well,  aapl stayed strong, and there was no crash. (the chart below is current)

1323  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you expect to happen to bitcoin in a year's time on: August 25, 2011, 08:50:48 AM
i have no idea.

if i had to guess, id say either $10-$15 range or sub $1... with wild swings in price along the way.
1324  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Steve Jobs resigns on: August 25, 2011, 06:35:43 AM
andriod owning the largest part of the mobile market share is only temporary, IMO.  since there are a lot of cheaper phones running android, they have scooped up the low-end and mid-range smartphone section of the market.  *if* the rumor is true that appl is going to be releasing a lower end iphone alongside the iphone 5, i would expect a large portion of andriods market share to dry up.  the other thing that killed apples market share this time around was an iphone launch plagued with issues and launching exclusively to at&t initially.

its still way too early to tell where the tablet market is going to go, but for now, the ipad dominates.

in any case, jobs is staying on as chairman, so he'll still be involved. personally, i dont think he's the all-knowing genius that the cult of mac portrays him to be, but if he his, he'll still be able to work his magic (albeit from a smaller role, i suppose).

in any case, apple is an extremely healthy company with great financials and they are consistantly turning a profit...as an investor, thats all that matters to me.
1325  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Steve Jobs resigns on: August 25, 2011, 12:14:32 AM
nah, we may see a little selloff, but the stock wont crash. apple still has the mobile, tablet and mp3 player markets cornered; they have a moat that will be hard to cross, they are highly profitable, and they have a SHITLOAD of reserve cash.

that still says "buy" to me.

besides, investors have known about his failing health and heave expected him to step down for sometime now.

1332  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading bot for britcoin - strategys? on: August 22, 2011, 06:26:50 AM
As its 0% fee's, would it be worth selling all the coins instantly for the going rate, and as soon as the value drops down again then buy them again? since the value is fluctuating so much this would be a perfect way to make small profits?

well i wouldnt sell all at once, gotta leave some money/btc liquid.  you should set up a trading band (the bot should keep orders within your trading range, and cancel/make new orders based on price fluctuations).

if the current price was $10 (and you pay no fees), your trading band may look something like;

sell 2 btc    @12
sell 1.5 btc @ 11.50
sell 1 btc    @ 11.00
sell .5 btc   @ 10.75
sell .5 btc   @ 10.50
sell .2 btc   @ 10.02

buy.2 btc   @ 10.01
buy.5 btc   @ 9.95
buy 1 btc   @ 9.50
buy 1.5      @ 8.5
buy 2         @ 7

check out https://dnnbitcoin.aricie.com/ its the bot i am using right now. the default (linear trading) strategy is basically what i explained above. it may give you ideas for your own bot (and its open source, so you can check out the code.)

even better! no fees means you can make money off of very small swings in price  Grin
1334  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading bot for britcoin - strategys? on: August 21, 2011, 01:10:37 PM
multiple buy orders to take advantage of price drops, and multiple sell orders to take advantage of price spikes.  adjust trades around the current price and leave enough of a spread that you can profit off of your trades after fees.

1335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Augustus, we have a problem! on: August 19, 2011, 11:42:17 PM
I agree... in the true decentralised nature of bitcoin, I think we should come up with the same phrase in Esperanto!

this is actually a clever idea.....and well suited to bitcoin imo

i could be wrong, but this screams of botnet mining or something similar.  Undecided
1337  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Porn on: August 19, 2011, 10:19:11 PM
But how would porn advance the bitcoin cause?

porn often leads technology (remember hd-dvd vs blu-ray?)

not everyone finds it offensive, you shouldnt lay your hang ups on other people.

personally, i find anti abortion rallies offensive, but i dont feel the need to berate the people who choose to participate in them...

in my country, porn is protected by free speech, as it should be....my suggestion is to get over it and live your own life instead of worrying about other peoples lifestyles.
