@jasemoney
@hack_

Thanks for the info. Never knew it actually got implemented. I'll be honest. I only look at the thread once a week or two with all the issues I am having under Windows. Which is ironic because I never had any issues up until version 0.30.17.5 or abouts there with any wallets.

I just ran the last Windows version with the last bootstrap that @bitcreditscc posted and I am at about 12 hours later and only synced at block 72655 and 37 weeks behind still.

I have no idea what the change that was so drastic that started causing these issues but it has been a pain in the rear. I think I have one bank node that has not been started in over 5 months now.

maybe you didn't uncompress it correctly?
I'm a windows user, winrar for everything, had used bootstrap.dat or plain data contents for a bootstrap, downloaded from bcr's link and uncompressed the zip...... wtf do i to with these 10 .7z files, now what?  Cheesy ......... I had to ask, turns out those .7z files were part files wich uncompressed will give you the data contents....... oh and btw winrar handled the 7z parts just fine, it just wasn't assigned that extension.
TL;DR I'm an idiot  Grin

I am negotiating our way to a android wallet capable of handling everything we have on the desktop wallet.

Current Price  ~ 3 BTC

we have an offer @ 1.5 btc and 1 M BCR

thoughts?

I vote a definite no. I'd rather see win/mac ironed up first. No use for android right now unless it's essential for one of BCRs core features. Also, no offense to the bidder but the offer is miserable.

That's 5% of the economy for half an android wallet, an unneeded luxury at this stage of the project, now if that money is for help with core code then that's a completely different story but the price would still be a complete joke.

*edit* read your mobile reasoning

Sync, while faster than the first rc is still pretty slow than most clients, while we have a lot more going on than clones, i still think we can do better.

with everything in place, has any windows user had a crash?

no crashes but yes it looks like in my case it will take a week to sync. I'm on block 42159 after 10 hours

Hi

I need some dedicated network VPS nodes. The network has become disjointed due to dropping off some peers. I need a total of 8 from various areas of the globe. At least 2 in the US, 2 in Europe , 2 in Asia  and 1 in Africa and 1 in Australia. These will become the default seednodes.

Preferably we can either donate nodes or contribute to a fund to get them running.

There's some sort of warning over at chainz explorer about peers.

Quote
Warning: We do not appear to fully agree with our peers! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade.

I can see that you will never admit that people are having issues with this wallet.

I am on Windows 7 64 bit on all three rigs and still can't get the wallet to sync. You still have not answered from my previous attempt to find out what the current wallet is. I know what it says in the OP and I have mentioned that with the current "beta" versions out that the OP does not always mention the current one in use.

When you have to delete everything in the roaming folder but wallet.dat, config file and backup folder just to get the wallet to open and then let it resync then there is a issue with the wallet.

You can call me a complainer, you can call me a fudster but hell make sure you also call me an investor since that is what I did with 2 of the bank nodes. And now you ask for donations and some of us can't even get our wallets to work. I have never had an issue like this with any other wallet.

What is strange about your statement is that when the wallet had real problems i did admit and we eventually got to the root of it.

Again, you are on windows and i develop and test on linux, perhaps there is something that is choking the windows wallet. Also, if you have custom configurations for block folders and wallets, try working on the default.

What issue are you facing when you do a fresh sync? If it is getting stuck somewhere then have you checked the peers you connect to?

I can't even tell you what a custom configured block folder is. I an using what the default wallet is.

About the peers, I have 2 active connections after trying the open the wallet again and it is resyncing now. Last issue after resyncing was stuck at block"?" I cant tell you because it was so long ago I never wrote it down and closed the wallet and that was back in September. I just gave up and was hoping for a new release of the wallet.

Would it be possible to update the OP and have a list of known good nodes to connect too? There is so much things to try and do that is spread out in this thread it would be nice to have one spot to find all the information we need. I currently have 4 addnodes in my config file and can't tell you if they are even good now.

I'll repost after the wallet has resynced.

All good..but why not just bootstrap ? Bittrex had a problem yesterday and we resolved it in minutes, just bootstrapped and were back in business. The adv of that is because you are already ahead of the problem peers, you won't get blocks form them anymore.

I could bump us up a version and release an update tomorrow that cuts them off, but i was hoping to avoid incremental updates this time so we have a smoother transition

Just tried the bootstrap from hack_ and the wallet will not open at all. It force close in less than a second. Opened it about 30 times and it force closes.

Deleted it all and opened wallet and it is syncing.

Why not put all the information in the OP so we can make sure we are using the correct things we need?

Also what are the correct nodes to be using?

try this newer bootstrtap by dragos https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896133.msg13046000#msg13046000

I haven't had a problem since. also, use the "dirty" version as the one on OP also closes for me but that dirty one has been rock solid so far.

...........

.......We have superblocks where your tip addresses get 20% .........

Not just superblocks, bank and reserve is getting 20% of the coin production. Not complaining in the slightest - it's needed and healthy for all those involved - but it needs to be accounted for when infrastructure and man hours are being discussed in addition to the initial 10m.

But then we hit the brick wall don't we ?  Smiley  i have always asked members of the community to participate but for the most part it's only a few words said and no action. The only good thing about crypto is the blockchains, i can always point out where everything went .

My explaining to you that i need 0.02 BTC to tip dev X for his ideas and Y piece of code he corrected is hilariously sad when you calculate that 20% and find it to be less than £2 a day.

Let's come up with a real plan and we can find a way to make it happen. For now i am just worried about beating the 1 January deadline i set for myself to have certain things working in the code , by hook or crook.

Fair enough.
Waiting to see the revised jasemoney's proposal.

While you mull what hack_ and i said, i need to hear comments of a different approach to the wallet.

Since the QT is really gonna grow, it runs the risk of becoming sluggish. Just in case i am thinking of starting a run for a html browser wallet. ie you start the wallet as a daemon-server then access evrything via your browser.

Thoughts?

I'd prefer a standalone qt, an app you can eventually download from the playstore or itunes, something an everyday person can fiddle around, with the least amount of buttons. The whole NXT wallet system feels alien to me, I know it resides in my pc but using a browser feels like I'm more exposed, like communicating with an external server etc. My online banking app is just that, an app.

Just my uneducated not tech savvy consumer take on it.

.......................

Out of curiosity, I would like to know when this "friendly mining" will end, correct me if I'm wrong but 5qoFUCqPUE4pyjus6U6jD6ba4oHR6NZ7c7 and 6133GZGV2XRnS53DkLSWrK661TsQMqnewL are constantly harvesting 1,8 fees + 3K superblock rewards and it ends up on exchange sell, it won't help in any way to current price.

..................

Curious about that too.

stuck on 251860 while the chain is moving fine currently @ 252032

I'm using v0.30.17.8-be4f2d1-dirty from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=896133.msg12693124#msg12693124

Tried everything i could think of including a vps to see if the deal was my isp but no luck.

****FORGOT TO MENTION*****

I used electrum.... maybe that's why?
Please make sure the priv key you are importing is the one for that specific address. I haven't tried electrum, but if the priv key is in a different format , you'll need to convert it. I'll take a look as well. Can you post the address Bitcredit gives you after you import the key?  The coins were definitely sent.

well that's the thing.. it's not like other wallets.. I have no clue where to see my receiving address and I've clicked everything....

Well if the key is correct , you still have to convert it , hence the link, i think i say some code to get the key.

For the mean time, i'd encourage you to use the format that can be imported into any wallet. Eventually i'll write code that will allow you to import other variants of keys.....but as you know, the todo list is ever expanding  Cry

er... yeah electrum's privkey is the same formatting as in other btc wallets according to some reply i got on the post above, and you can import them into any other wallet according to him. But yeah don't worry about my issue right now, I'll consider it cold storage for the time being.

very very strange. I have millions of bitcoin keys and they all start with 5. The issue is the key's format. But it's all good, just don't loose the key.

Guess i was right :- https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet_import_format

So ... now fully synced my coins are there! I got paid! I guess i had done everything right but I was probably on a fork at that time... I had not tried again until today.... very very nice.

the btc bidding address in the qt, is it up to date? I'd like to bid again.

Thanks.

About the localhost nodes: I thought BN would provide a service or similar - how can the bcr network ban or target those for connections or whatever when needed when you don't know the ip?

Well.... i guess i could answer by asking.....so how do TOR BNs provide services then? What we are mostly concerned with for now is the ChainID, that is what holds the funds, so nomatter clearnet, or otherwise, so long as it is online and providing financial service. We ban/blacklist an address, IPs don't seem improtant to the dev.

I see. makes sense to target the address. Still caught my attention though since whenever i did that in other coins, my locahost nodes connection would drop, I mean the network would see them but it either banned me or I would lose the connection somehow after a couple of minutes... unless I used it with my proper IP. I like it though, for its err privacy?  Grin

Bootstrap

https://mega.nz/#!8kYTxAQZ!x15I57mRgCLQpwK8OX4lVhgtLL_SeXUDdt1ZDczoC0w

from the dev, mine failed to upload , downloading now to test, but likely someof you can report on it faster than me , i really hate slow net.

All set! thanks a lot.

okay what the fuck.. third time i did this..

i completely emptied the data folder.. added all the available nodes from the blockexplorer in my bitcredit.conf.. did a full resync of my wallet..

again stuck on block 236433!! Huh

well....you expect a difference while connecting to bad nodes? There is nothing the dev can do about cutting them off save for an upgrade. Try using the --connect flag with a synced node.

I tried three times now. 1st with no addnodes, 2nd with addnodes from chainz, 3rd with connect..... every time it gets stuck on 236433. multiple hours for each try while it tries to sync..

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bcr/masternodes.dws
^^ I asked months back how localhost banknodes are possible.... no reply. there's 45 of them....Huh

**EDIT**

A current bootstrap would be appreciated  Kiss

Local nodes...dead simple:

Set Bnaddr to 127.0.0.1:xxxx with xxxx being the rpc port for that instance, then start the bn.

Boostrap: coming soon (ban net link where i am ryt now)

Thanks.

it wouldn't be trustless though. you could be the pope and people would still not trust him 100% to hold their tangible currency. big dilemma....

No, it wont be trustless, because you can't do perfectly trustless when dealing with real stuff. Bitcoin isn't really perfectly trustless (and certainly isn't decentralised) either, you're just relying on the distributed ledger and some rather centralised miners (ie. trusting a lot of practically anonymous counterparties) to keep your unbacked-by-anything 1's and 0's safe from attack.

Multiparty custodial structures can be put in place though to minimise risk, and with any fiat connection will come the requirement for real names and identities for said custodians. These things would need to be hammered out before BCR can expand beyond BTC/LTC/DASH 'donational interoperability.'  Wink

RE: bold part.

Pretty curious about that dynamic between complete strangers - just names on the internet. That would be two names at least to be identified with the bcr fiat funds. You wouldn't trust me (proletariat) with your money would you?  Shocked
