3241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waking up to a sea of blood. What is going on recently? on: June 25, 2017, 06:50:05 AM
Spoetnik and Vitalik told us to get out of cryoto and into fiat 2 days ago.  Spoetnik is all in fiat and Vitalik is liquidating his monster coin stack.

https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/877666433433350144

But it was nice of them to tell us all first so we did not lose any money.

Vitalik has never had any faith in any cryptocurrency, specially not in his own project because more than anyone else he knows all the things that are wrong with it and how the future looks bad for his project and the price of it.
and i don't know if it is stupidity, or what but he has been admitting the grim future publicly! the first pump he dumped a couple of million dollars right be fore the crash and the second pump (the recent one) he dumped even more.

3242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What will happen if you pay less transaction fees ? on: June 25, 2017, 06:28:27 AM
I was wondering what will happen if you don't pay enough transaction fees ? in that case will the transaction be ever confirmed ? or it will just take more time than the usual

Well, I wasn't sure about that too once a long time ago.  So, I did a little experiment.  I sent a transaction from one of my wallets to another of my wallets with a zero transaction fee.  It didn't get picked up and several days later the transaction was cancelled so the bitcoin was returned to my original wallet.

things have changed a bit, the transactions won't get "canceled" that easily anymore because nodes have increased their "forgetting" time to 1 week IIRC from 72 hours. and even if that wasn't the case "being cancelled" or more correctly dropping out of the mempool was not an easy thing you could count on. a node can simply relay your transaction forever until it confirms.

in case you decided to send with lower fee make sure to mark it as an RBF transaction (use clients that let you do that) so that you have an easier time bumping the fees in case you wanted the transaction to be confirmed faster.
3243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waking up to a sea of blood. What is going on recently? on: June 25, 2017, 06:22:22 AM
well the pumping season ended!
the season is always good and fruitful for many people but it never lasts forever, there is an end for everything. now there is only drops and dead cat bounces. there is nothing happening in your back, this is the natural order of things. it just seems strange when you see it in action for the first time but after a couple of "pumping seasons" you'll get used to it.
3244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Best Way to Buy ETH, Litecoin, Waves? on: June 25, 2017, 06:03:30 AM
the best way to buy them is not to buy them right now because they are all in bubbles, but it is your decision and i keep seeing you make these topics for a couple of weeks now where you repeat over and over that you are planning to buy ETH, if you want to buy and think it is a good idea then just do it already Smiley

for buying these coins the best way is through exchanges such as poloniex and bittrex or any other that you feel more comfortable with their rules and services they offer. and for that you need bitcoin! specially since many of these coins such as Waves does not have any USD markets.

also shapeshift is a good place but the final total fees will be higher and you won't get the benefit of using a trading platform. for the fee details just read the website's FAQ, all of them have all the information you need.
3245  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin a good way to invest your money ? on: June 25, 2017, 05:46:10 AM
bitcoin is good for any kind of investment both the short term and long term it has enough liquidity and volatility for the short term traders to make enough money from taking advantage of these changes and for the others who don't like day trading they can invest and go for the long term investment instead. price has always gone up in the long term because of what bitcoin offers as a secure decentralized crtyptocurrency that no one controls and has no borders!
this is why many buy and forget for years and become rich easily.
3246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What will happen if you pay less transaction fees ? on: June 25, 2017, 05:29:37 AM
it depends on how much lower and how full the mempool is going to be.
if you pay a little lower fee than what you should, (for example lets say you should have paid 330 satoshi/byte but you paid 270 s/b) it will take a longer time. it can be less than a day in most cases.
but if you pay a lot less than you should have paid (for example paying 50 s/b) then it may take weeks or never.

and the mempool is the memory pool or in other words how many other transactions are waiting to be confirmed and how much fee they are paying. if it is a small number (eg 5K) then you have a higher chance and if it is a bigger number (eg 100K) you have a much lower chance.
3247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum (ETH) - was crash, ($350 to $13) is it True? on: June 23, 2017, 06:50:34 AM
yes it was true.

i have not checked all the exchanges to see if it happened on all of them but i know that it happened at least on one exchange. GDAX (you may know it as coinbase). and it was because of the problems that ethereum blockchain had and the fact that all exchanges disabled deposits and withdrawals of ethereum and people started to panic and dump everything they had so price crashed hard.

you can check the charts on GDAX to see this crash.
3248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China shutdown VPN, looking for overseas providers that accept bitcoin on: June 23, 2017, 06:18:36 AM
Well how wise would it be to list "unblocked" VPN's on here? China will just add them to their Firewall and they will also be blocked. Do not make it easy for them by listing it here. This forum are monitored by a lot of agencies, including agents from China. I guess with all traffic being monitored, they will easily spot traffic that are encrypted or presented in a weird way. I feel sorry for the people in that country, we are so used to communicating without borders and do not appreciate this privilege enough. ^grrrrrrr^

what i explained above (the additional layer of SSH) is un-blockable. and the only way of blocking it is to block all encrypted connections and that includes https connections meaning all the websites using it (such as banks, ...) will be blocked.
there are additional ways to add that extra layer but i have found that SSH is the best method.
3249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vitalik openly admits he doesn't trust his creation on: June 23, 2017, 06:14:09 AM
He is not wrong in saying that crypto as a whole does not have a 100% chance to succeed. If Bitcoin fails, then most of crypto will crash with it at this point. He is just saying that diversifying would not mean pouring in crypto. This is smart logic, not shady.

he is not wrong, it is a good idea to diversify and we are all doing it.
but as the head developer of a supposedly big project which you claim to be revolutionary and want to convince people it is good, you should be careful about what comes out of your mouth. for example in this case he is clearly saying i don't even have faith in my own creation.
3250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Long term hold ALT coins to hold for 1+ year. on: June 23, 2017, 06:02:19 AM
if you take a closer look at the altcoins you mentioned here as your previous investments you can clearly see that none of them gave that profit to you in long term (1+ year!). in fact all of them have been falling in the long term and causing you to lose money.

then over the period of ~1 month they started rising and gave those profits. so ask yourself this question: why would you risk holding an altcoin for a long term and lose money with the chance of it rising over 1 month and go back down again for another year.
3251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China shutdown VPN, looking for overseas providers that accept bitcoin on: June 23, 2017, 05:43:42 AM
i am not in China but VPN is also blocked in my country.
there are two kinds of blocking so you need to first figure out which one they are using before attempting to get a VPN.
the normal way is to block the websites selling or block ports that VPNs use. in which case using a different port like the ssl (IIRC 443) will solve it easily. usually schools, ... use this on their internal network to prevent students or employees, ... use VPN.

the complicated method is blocking any sort of VPN connection by doing some DPA (deep packet analysis) in which case nothing will work, and buying regular VPNs would mean throwing your money away because you can not connect to any of them. solution is using a VPN provider which offers an extra layer of SSH encryption. the only one that i can remember which offers this service and accepts bitcoin is called AirVPN
3252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Time to get out of ETH for a moment? on: June 22, 2017, 06:13:52 AM
We can't know the price is moving very frequently. It may be +10% or -10% in minutes. What we can do is day trade to minimize the risk. If I were you, I wouldn't open long term positions.

it was not -10% then +10% or vice versa at all.
and day trading is certainly not safe in a market where price is falling. it is highly risky, riskier than it normally can be.
the only case where it can be a good idea to invest in such a market is if you see a very huge dip and are nearly sure that price will bounce back so you buy in that dip. but also the profit in cases like this are too small to be worth it. meanwhile in other altcoins price are rising with a much smaller risk and a much bigger profit!

so why you would choose a high risk low reward over a low risk high reward is beyond my understanding!
3253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum: So much hype but it can't even process as many transactions as Bitcoin on: June 22, 2017, 06:03:24 AM
yeah, the flippening is happening. i don't care and i am dumb. i only look at coinmarketcap.com and if some coin is placed under bitcoin and the rank says #2 then it must be a good coin.
i don't care if the blockchain is bloated,
i don't care if it can not handle transactions properly
i don't care if the whole thing is not even reliable that even exchanges suspend everything to "investigate" as they do with shitcoins with broken blockchain.
i don't care if DAO can happen again with any other smart contract and cause another big failuire
i don't care that smart contracts is the breading ground for a lot of scams and majority of ICOs are in fact scams
i don't care if these scam ICOs will cash out and crash the price soon
i don't care if the transaction fees are extremely high
i don't care if ether has a >75% premine of 70+ million coins
i don't care ...

all that i being dump care about is that the market cap is huge so it must be a good coin, doi. also i read on bitcointalk and reddit that some random account was saying ethereum is good, so he must be right.
here is my money and i will hand it to you on my own.
3254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $13: Ether Prices Plunge in GDAX Exchange Flash Crash on: June 22, 2017, 05:46:15 AM
no it is not a glitch if you look at the volume of that time also the trading history. people did sell their ethers by that time. it was because of a mass panic because of the failure of ethereum blockchain. so anybody who had any buy order on GDAX removed it so that made the buy support thin and then came the panic sell, which is practically a huge amount of ETH dumped on the already thin buy orderbook so it crashed the price easily to $13 but since it is a huge drop obviously everyone jumps in and automatic trades kick in also and buy it back up
3255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: WOW LTC on discount today.. on: June 21, 2017, 06:22:46 AM
Being in LTC since 23-26 range, I like this coin and have only invested in it. From a charting standpoint this currency has been very consistent and fairly predictable. The only wrench in the gears has been this strong upward trend back to $50 level. I say back to $50 bc it was at one point at this high in it's lifetime. The way I feel about this is LTC is just about to breakout from it's all time high just like BTC did not too long ago. Now just take a look at how many % points BTC has moved since it's all time high Shocked , I feel that LTC will mirror that same path throughout the summer as segwit2x is released.

My suggestion is if you are not in LTC as you read this post, it would be a good idea to stay out until the price stabilizes (1 week or so).

I am not in LTC but I feel the oppposite way. If I don't get it now when the price is "stable" at 25-30 I'll again cry when it gets to $50. Yes! Even double is more than enough for me to feel good.

he has a good point though.
right now LTC price has tested the high price of last months again and whenever price reaches the same high after some time (the cup and handle) many will consider it as their relief to sell their coins which they have bought at the previous high, hence crashing the price. and this will never go down to $25-30 again. the lowest will be what we are seeing now. and there is a good chance that it will change direction very soon probably in 3-4 days up to a week.
so buying the bottoms is a good idea.
3256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do vanity addresses exist for Ethereum ? on: June 21, 2017, 06:12:14 AM
it all comes down to demand!
if people are interested in it somebody will modify the "Vanity Address Project for Bitcoin" and fork it for ethereum. but since there has not been anybody interested in such a thing nobody done it either (at least as far as i know, and searching didn't bring up anything either).

also be careful about using some of these websites or even if you found the open source project forked from Bitcoin Vanity address project in the future, because they may be malicious or at the very least have bugs that lead to fund loss.
3257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: wtf? Blockchain transaction fees is outrageous!!! on: June 21, 2017, 05:57:51 AM
your post is completely meaningless because you made a bitcoin transaction but you are talking about USD!
if you want your post to have any meaning you should include 2 things and include both of them not just one:
1. amount of fee  2. size if your transaction in bytes (or simply add fee/byte)

right now my assumption is that you made a transaction with a lot of small inputs and the size of your transaction is more than 5000 bytes!

If you go to sites like this : https://www.cryptocompare.com/wallets/exodus/ you will see people complaining about the wallet having extraordinary high transaction fees. You should have done a bit of homework, before you started using this service. When they do not offer you options to choose between minimum fees or standard fees or high fees, then you have to question their motives. You should be able to specify your fees on your own and if not, you should avoid their service. ^hmmmmmm^

i believe OP sent a transaction FROM blockchain.info TO exodus, which means blockchain.info costed that much fee and they have been suggesting 120 s/b for all transactions so far!!
3258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Money Moving Back into Bitcoin from Alt-Coins on: June 21, 2017, 05:50:59 AM
As a scaling solution has been reached, it looks as if money is finally flowing back into Bitcoin (https://coinmarketcap.com/). There is a clear downwards trend on all of the alt-coin's value graphs, while Bitcoin has a clear spike in recent days.

Thoughts on what this means for bitcoin / alt-coins in general?

it means nothing really because this is not a new thing. it happens every year.
each time there is a good altcoin pumping season where all the altcoins get pumped a lot one after another and they give a lot of profit to most old users who know the patterns and those good traders who don't fall for the lies. and the rest who lose money either become experienced and next pumping season they make good profit or they just leave.

and besides this is just the start of the altcoins dump. it will speed up soon and that is when things become catastrophic for them.
3259  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ARBITRAGE: Bitstamp -> CEX.IO - Proof of Concept on: June 20, 2017, 06:11:12 AM
Arbs only happen, of course, in times of high volatility. Otherwise - the markets are very well optimised given the number of bots operating.

The "arb" from exchange to OTC remains open though! And some currency pairs into OTC

Good Luck

what do you mean by OTC? something like peer to peer exchange, off exchanges and selling to people, like what they do on localbitcoins?
if that is true, then i don't think you can call it "arb"itrage trading anymore. it is just buy low and sell high to people who don't want to go to exchanges to buy cheap! it is more like a business, and you have to gain "customers" by building up some reputation.
3260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: New Litecoin rally speculation on: June 20, 2017, 05:55:38 AM
Something will happen one of those top pumped coins will burst, and with LTC as predefined investment will flourish, we can expect small miracle..I will wait for such event. Only BTC can smash our dreams, or at lest can have major influence with this new apocalyptic scenario for august.

it is mostly money which is going from altcoin to altcoin. the wise money (or wise investors) invest in an altcoin while it is low priced and then pump it, as it grows others will join and on top the wise money exits the market to go to the next and those who came in late will stick around begging for a way to exit. this process can be fast in shitcoins and it is slow for better altcoins such as litecoin but it happens for all of them.

and for bitcoin i believe there is some glimmer of hope for the August thing since SegWit has gained >75% support which is more than 90% if you add SegWit2x and SegWit signalling.
