Looks like it's settling ~451 m/hash at 990/350 with i=9 voltage = 1.13 running at a cool 53.5C with 60% fan An extra 50 m/hash ain't too bad at all Thanks for the help! Edit: Copied the old opencl.dll and the old BIN file to a USB stick, just in case. You can do better. Try lowering your ram speeds. See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63464.0Note, those results were obtained with 2.4 SDK, I assume you have 2.1, so no guarantee how they will carry over, but I would love to find out. 2.1 is supposedly faster than 2.4. [/quote I'll try again, but lowering the mem seemed to make the drivers unstable before. I'll check it out now.

So, it seems the steps I need to take are: 1) Go to CCC setup --> Uninstall 2) Check to see if opencl.dll is still in system 32. If it is, delete that. 3) Download and install SDK 2.1 (or sdk 2.4 if sdk 2.1 doesn't work) 4) Reap benefits
Yay or nay?
5) post results. edit: important. Delete (or move/rename) the BIN files in cgminer folder! They are named something like phatk110817Cypressbitalignv2w256long4.BIN If you dont remove them, nothing will change, they contain code compiled with the SDK you had when you first ran cgminer. Pardon my ignorance, but if I delete the BIN files in the cgminer folder first, will I need to replace them with something else after I install SDK 2.1? I will def. post results. Edit: It sounds like you're saying that if I delete the BIN files, install SDK 2.1 and run cgminer, cgminer will compile new BIN files.

Those who argue that there would have not been a rally to begin with (i.e. without leveraging) are kidding themselves.
Here's my stance on the leverage debate. Momentum is the biggest part of any price movement. You can see this very clearly in the charts... the big trends last for months. If we had not had leverage, we would have had a slower rise (and perhaps even from a lower bottom), but the price would have kept rising instead of running into a brick wall. We definitely could have gotten past $7 without Bitcoinica. I've said it before, but with Bitcoin if you're smart enough it's relatively easy to "beat the market." This isn't the stock market. There's countless fewer variables to consider and as such it's infinitely easier to isolate market variables. This also means that the variables you can isolate have a much more deterministic impact on the market. Deconstructing the Bitcoin market compared to the stock market is like someone asking you to guess the number of jellybeans in a jar vs. the number of jellybeans in a swimming pool just by glancing at them. The ONLY time I've gotten somewhat fucked was a few weeks ago when everything snowballed on Bitcoinica. Why did I get fucked? I wasn't even aware that the asterisk could be an issue. Well, it's turned out to be a huge issue. The downward movement today was completely expected and that's why I didn't lose anything. But seriously, Bitcoinica's gotta figure out its reserve issues. The Bitcoin market is a system. All systems need homeostasis to stabilize, and that means balancing systemic input and output. Bitcoinica really fucks with the input and output.

I thought you had to manually delete (or rename) opencl.dll in system32. Uninstalling the sdk doesnt get rid of it, or so I heard. Easy to check, if after uninstalling this dll is still there, get rid of it before installing 2.1
Also be sure to let us know what results you get. My best 5870 result on sdk 2.4 is ~461 MH/s @ 1000/170. Havent tried 2.1.
So, it seems the steps I need to take are: 1) Go to CCC setup --> Uninstall 2) Check to see if opencl.dll is still in system 32. If it is, delete that. 3) Download and install SDK 2.1 (or sdk 2.4 if sdk 2.1 doesn't work) 4) Reap benefits Yay or nay? BTW im running cgminer 2.2.1 on win 7 64-bit

Personally, I think a fully personalized song is more interesting than a ringtone that lasts 15-30 seconds. Is there anybody that wants to challenge me to writing their own customized song? You pick the style (rock, classic rock, alternative, metal, jazz, blues, classical, r&b, techno, or a mix of any of these), you pick the instruments (including guitar, bass, piano, drums, and virtually any synthesizer tones including strings and ambient tones), you pick the length, and you choose the complexity. Show artists some BTC love

I didn't lose a dime, and though I don't have as much anger as you're presenting, I am prone to agree with OP.
I really think the primary reason we're not in the $7's or $8's right now is because Bitcoinica's asterisk likes to intervene and kill momentum.
Those who argue that there would have not been a rally to begin with (i.e. without leveraging) are kidding themselves.

I believe you can uninstall whatever version of SDK you currently have by going to CCC then uninstall.
But for whatever reason, you'll have to go into open up the SDK2.1 package as an archive and go to the specific file to install it. Don't ask me why since I don't know but I'm guessing that there's a reason why I was told to install SDK2.1 that particular way and it worked for me and others apparently.
Thanks! Can anyone confirm this? I'll try it later.

Here's an old post of mine where I asked a similar question when I first started into bitcoin mining (which wasn't very long ago): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=62239.msg730227#msg730227And here is the download page for the older versions (official AMD site): http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/pages/AMDAPPSDKDownloadArchive.aspxI've read that you have to go to the CCC setup and tell it to remove the older SDK but the very first time I just installed SDK2.1 and it worked for me so YMMV. Once you get the SDK program, open it using something like WinRAR and go into \Packages\AppsATIStreamSDK_Dev_win764a\ and run ATIStreamSDK_dev.msi to install SDK2.1. I went from getting like 650-700 mhash/s to 750-800 mhash/s on my 5970 by doing so. Other people posted in my post saying that it helped them too. There's a pretty big consensus from what I've seen that SDK2.1 is the go to version for 5xxx series. Can I just go to CCC setup --> Uninstall, then install SDK 2.1?
|
|
|
From what I've read posted by others, SDK 2.1 is best for 5xxx series.
As for what version of drivers, possibly one of the Catalyst 11.x versions. I'm using 12.1 though with SDK 2.1 and my hash rates seem to be fine.
Can anyone confirm this? Is it as simple as downloading and installing SDK 2.1 or is removal/modification of other files needed?

Currently I'm getting only 404 m/hash on my 5870 in cgminer with 990/350. I know I should be getting much higher, but I'm not sure what SDK and drivers are needed. I know I remember reading about this before, I'm just not sure where.

People, I just wanna go to SR and buy benzos. It is all I want. I have a mt.gox account with no idea on how to use it. I tried adding money to it, and it it told me to "use" some address with a jumble of letters. Kay, how do I "use" this so called address? All I simply want to do is to move fifteen measly us dollars from my pitiful checkings account and I have already read the newbie info on this site but it is very generic. topics that only defines terms like mining, what a bitcoin is.. not exactly the steps I need to buy something with these bitcoins. I know nothing of encryption or public and private keys, and I have purchased nothing off SR due to my lack of knowledge. It should not be this difficult; pm me if you have time. I have gibberbot too, but I unfortunately do not know how to use it. I understand what private and public keys are but do not know how to use them. major help here.
"People, I just wanna go to SR and buy benzos. It is all I want."Meh... If you are going to be useless in helping new users ,no matter what their purpose is for the use bitcoins... don't bother replying. I'm sorry you got that impression. I was trying to imply that I would've otherwise helped were it not for the first 2 sentences. Ironically, I just made a post in 'meta' about creating FAQ subforums... This is a good example of why they would help.

This is especially relevant to the mining, marketplace, and Bitcoin discussion subforums. For people who have been here a little longer, you may have grown tired of seeing the same, basic questions being asked over and over. For those who have recently joined, you may have noticed what jerks those of us who have been here a little longer can be when these questions are asked.
So, I think it would be a good idea if there were stickied FAQ threads in relevant subforums. For example, a mining subforum FAQ thread might contain questions like:
"What SDK version should I use for each ATI graphics card?" "How do I optimize my ATI graphics card?" "How do I mine with more than one graphics card?" "How do I know what power supply to use?" "I want to mine, but I'm not sure what parts to get!" [responses would list the components of several mining rigs to be used as examples] "What miners are currently available, and what are their pros/cons?" "How do I turn my mined Bitcoins into cash?" "How hot should I allow my graphics card to get?" "How fast should I set my fan? "What is the difference between voltage and powertune?" "What are flags, and which ones should I use?" "How do I limit my power consumption?" "What is a reference graphics card?" "How do I flash my BIOS?" "Why does my computer sometimes crash when I mine?" "Pay-per-share or proportional?" "Which operating system should I use?" "How do I make an open-air mining rig?" "Should I mine in a pool or mine solo?"
Honestly, I think this might do something to ease some of the tension around here, and it might help the newbies get caught up a little faster.
Edit: And yes, I know there's already something like this in the mining section, though a little different.

How about a valentine ringtone for my girlfriend? Do you think you could do that?
Wow, didn't think I'd see this thread pop up. When would you need the ringtone by? If you wat something original by tomorrow, that's essentially an impossibility unless you want me to just cut a section from a pre-written song and use that. If you want to go this option, 1 BTC price. I can make one in 10 minutes using a song I've already recorded and give you a download link, but I only have one pre-recorded song that could work for this, and I believe I linked it i this thread (it's the acoustic-sounding one). I also have an unrecorded-but-complete piano song that I could use for it that sounds like it would fit with a valentine's theme. 4 BTC for this as I would have to record it. But, if you're looking for something original from scratch with multiple instruments by tomorrow, no way is it going to happen unless you got like 50 BTC lying around I'd ask less for these (4 BTC for the 2nd option is a bit ridiculous IMO) but I'm under the weather, I just got home from work, and I have class all day tomorrow. The price has to outweigh my complete desire to not do anything but sleep. If by chance any of these options appeals to you, let me know. Or, if you think your girlfriend wouldn't mind receiving it after valentines day, let me know that too and we can work out specifically what you'd like.

I kinda like Atlas. He's passionate about sharing his ideas. He's an example of why I wish the peer review system was obliterated.

To me, the interesting thing is that if someone made a legit version of BitScalper and actually capitalized on arbitrage opportunities, it could potentially do wonders for the market. If I had the coding skills, I would do this in a heartbeat. Any excellent coders want to consider teaming up and running with this?
