He's definitely stirring a hornet's nest.
342  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wow on: July 07, 2011, 10:28:34 PM
Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Namecoins.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Data proves Bitcoins are dropping to 0 on: July 07, 2011, 10:20:43 PM

Here's a new chart. I applied the recent market data to linear regression theory once again, and it shows that it will hit 0. It will be during the weekend slump. The recent dip to the 11s gave more evidence to this indicator. Better sell now, folks. It's all going to end.
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does one increase one's odds in the speculation game? on: July 07, 2011, 06:38:04 PM
Just do what all the trolls and shills here say. Sell when it drops to $12, because it then means it'll proceed to go below $10.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is mining namecoins and why? on: July 07, 2011, 06:34:22 PM
Namecoins are more fun to mine because you get more of them. I know it's silly, but that's how it is to me. Of course I just have my one gaming computer. Also nobody is DDOSing the pool.
346  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Other is closing in on 50% on: July 07, 2011, 06:30:35 PM
Can someone DDOS 'other' please? They are gaining on 50%!

So is this the equivalent of brute forcing a 64 bit password?

edit:

I mean a password that is 64 bits long, encrypted with SHA-256.

Are you schizophrenic or something?
349  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bye Bitcoin! on: July 07, 2011, 04:16:32 PM
So the price is currently higher as when lardycake made his first post, and he's still sticking by his reasoning? It'll be really funny when it eventually hits 30 again and he missed out.
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is mining namecoins and why? on: July 07, 2011, 05:49:54 AM
Namecoin price jumped up almost 50% a couple days ago, if you didn't notice. Since then it went back down, however.
351  Economy / Economics / Re: Who is buying above $13? Manipulation or Market? on: July 07, 2011, 05:36:31 AM
Yes It is very interesting times, I can't help  but keep checking the price of the bitcoin. I must admit, part of me wants it to go lower because I missed the boat on this one.

352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best 1-3 line selling pitch for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2011, 05:04:24 AM
Bitcoins are electricity converted into dollars.
353  Other / Off-topic / Domain names targeted more by U.S. and U.K. governments. Namecoin to step in? on: July 05, 2011, 03:09:54 PM

Quote
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has been taking down sites with illegal content and targeted one UK student with extradition, despite the content not being hosted in the US.

Erick Barnett, assistant deputy director for (ICE), told The Guardian that any site that uses a .com or .net domain name is fair game, as those are registered through US company Verisign.

There's so many stories like this coming out that are showing a growing demand for a system like Namecoin. I remember during the times when Wikileaks had their domain stolen, many people were calling for a distributed system to ensure security. People would love to be able to register domain names without them possibly being taken away, and without needing to associate their true identities with them (although they still can, of course).

Namecoins have a bright and hopeful future ahead. They have all the strengths of Bitcoins, in addition to the value of a distributed domain name system. Either, or both, could take hold and lead to true Internet freedom. The usage of this distributed domain system would start with the Bitcoin community, and spread virally into widespread acceptance. More helpful pushes by Wikileaks would propel it forward even more.

Although still new and obscure, the three-month old Namecoin has quite an active community. The IRC channel has 150 or so people in it, compared to Bitcoin's 550. These are the people who will advance it forward, just like Bitcoin in its beginnings except at a faster rate. There is a sub-reddit for it, a project-page wiki, forums, and an exchange that's been stable and trustworthy so far. The exchange has never "Goxed" anybody and has supported high volumes in the past without issues. A new exchange is expected to come online as well.

However, Namecoin isn't without its flaws, although in my opinion fixable. The system is very unwieldy and even less user-friendly than Bitcoin. The Windows client does not yet have an official GUI. Most importantly, though, there is no easy way to set up the DNS system for your browser. Work is being done in these two areas. Furthermore, Namecoin could be perceived as a copy of Bitcoin, leading people to think there may be more to come and too many to handle.

Does anyone else have crystal-ball opinions on this? I just thought I'd share what I was musing about. Maybe I should have put this in off-topic.
354  Economy / Economics / Re: Wealth is unlimited. on: July 05, 2011, 05:06:29 AM
The universe has its limits but we can do damn good with what we have and the potential is unleashed when there are no limits on man's creativity.

And I think it's also easy to realize that technology, as a function of human effort, is also not unlimited.

Civilization has proven otherwise. Man isn't going to quit one day. We are not going to stop having desire.

Also, don't be limited by our current view of reality. It always changes. It will change.

We use a fraction of a percentage of the sun's energy that hits the Earth. There is so much potential for us to go. And we will not be using currency from the abacus era.
355  Economy / Economics / Re: Good time to sell them coins on: July 05, 2011, 05:03:59 AM
Also a good time to buy Namecoins... security through diversification (without needing fiat currency to be involved).

Zero.

This.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Let Your Bitcoins Die With You! How to give them away after you die on: July 05, 2011, 04:35:21 AM
I plan on storing my wallets onto a USB stick, and burying them in the sand on a desert island. I will draw a map to get back to them, using proper cartographic methods. Upon my death, my closest relatives will receive the map along with my other belongings.
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GOD CREATED BITCOINS! A NEW SCIENTIFIC STUDY DONE BY ME. on: July 05, 2011, 04:30:15 AM
I have done a scientific study that involves pure logic and a patented reasoning algorithm. Surely, we can all agree that God himself created the vast universe and better yet, he created us.

With all that power, wouldn't you think he created Bitcoins as well? I just can't believe the fact that some guy named 'Satoshi' is taking credit for his work!

Something must be done about this, this is just unfair. For God himself and the sake of Bitcoins, we need to stop relating Satoshi as the founder of Bitcoin, and replace him with God himself.

Anyone agree with me?  Sad

All the source code for Bitcoin was originally in the Old Testament, but the pages got left out millenia ago. I think the people didn't know what they meant, and they had to copy the writings by hand.

It was only recently discovered and put onto Github.

This money sounds like gold that could rust.
