341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DVC] What happened to Devcoin leadership! on: December 14, 2015, 06:24:33 PM
Unfortunately Open Transactions changed the format of their nyms and contracts and such, and still have not settled on a final format, and seem to have given up on the idea of making a GUI client so simple that grandma can use it, so all the wonderful markets of any asset vs any asset at any powers-of-ten scale have gone on hold since long ago now and look to be quite a while yet before they get a final system in place.

So all the stuff at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html is still not simple to trade for grandmas and such, and most cryptocoin folks have never seemed to get into the idea of actually entering into games to wheel and deal, they just want to sit outside and trade stuff on websites without any actual immersion in any games, no characters to get mugged trying to find their way to a back alley exchange in some city on some planet somewhere, no nation to control and keep productive to back its currency and so on and so on.

I have been looking around at the various distributed exchanges / assets systems but so far have not seen one that looks like it would work for the stuff the http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html pages document.

Basically the major nations clans corps groups parties and such mostly trade on paper nowadays racking up notes as to what transactions will eventually need to be plugged into the Open Transactions system whenever a final setup for Open Transactions is ready for use.

But just because the cryptocoins crowd doesn't see it all moving on websites doesn't mean the whole grand design of the Galactic Milieu is not still chugging along in the background.

Consider for example that the total amount of devcoins owed by debtors is still way the heck larger than the total number that have been minted, and that fleets of ships continue to ship Deuterium to General Ming Corp (GMC) and General Retirement Fund (GRF) depots carrying typically almost 15 million units of Deuterium per fleet and often four or five such fleets from a given Corp from its various mining colonies you can see from the table at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/deuterium.html that commerce is still strong and is in fact growing.

So just have patience, maybe? Or maybe even throw some bounties into encouraging more players to get involved? Or throw more bounties at Open Transactions developers? Or into whole new technologies to make all this stuff more accessible to folk who maybe are not into running around on two-dimensional maps with individual characters? Or to attract more players into the various clans? Or to encourage folks to make whole new clans, parties, associations and such?

-MarkM-

MarkM I don't get a clue on what you are talking about... can you provide a little context? yet I think you have point here.

343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [DVC] What happened to Devcoin leadership! on: December 14, 2015, 04:35:52 AM
Dear Devcoin leaders,

I joined DVC community because I believe in it. Actually, my project http://ophal.org got an spike in motivation thanks to the Devcoin Foundation, and for sure you know about the several people that write in devtome.com, they created something with amazing potential!

Yet this project needs leadership! devtome.com has a bug that can't be fixed yet, coinzen.com is still dead, ghash.io stopped mining DVC, we only have two exchange markets left, etc.

Btw, 3 or 2 satoshis per DVC are still not 0, we can make something to transform DVC into what it was created for.

Please do it! Raise leadership again!

Kind regards!

For those of you who are worried about Vircurex, there is a thread for it:

I restarted the discussion on future Devcoin price, previously titled: "Good time to buy Devcoins!" now is: "Devcoin price forecast".

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1275749

Everyone's forecast is welcome!

I predict the price surges by an entire satoshi once the Devtome gets fixed Wink

If vircurex actually run away with the money now (no deposits or withdrawals can be made) and the withdrawal problems that Cryptsy has, I predict that DVC will drop with one satoshi. However, there is still one market, BTER provides a DVC/CNY trading pair.

Too fucking bad, that I sent all my DVC out of Cryptsy, straight into the mouth of vircurex... 30M coins :/
So, I'll just beg and pray that vircurex just has a problem with their wallet services. Tested to send there a few DVC an hour ago, and the deposit cannot be seen either.

I guess this is quite a hot topic for devcoiners, as vircurex has been quite a big market place for us.

I haven't sold any of mine in a LONG time. I used to play the market to build up more... and then they crashed. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to liquidate at this point or remain hopeful that something can be done to infuse value into them again. Feel kind of stupid... had an offer when they were 120 sat still to buy all of mine at 110 off the market. Declined because I had faith in the project. Now they're almost valueless, Sad.

Vircurex has a tradition of issues but they manage to solve things: http://www.coindesk.com/exchange-vircurex-freezes-withdrawals-claims-lack-reserves/

I sent 1M yesterday, not showing up in my account either. Wrote to customerservice@vircurex.com a few minutes ago, hope they reply soon.

As the price of Bitcoin is wonderfully volatile again, altcoins (including Devcoin) have strong SELL pressure. Devcoin stayed at 3 or 4 satoshis the last weeks. Get ready for the price going up to steady 4 satoshis.

CONCLUSION: DO NOT SELL, buy cheap now.

Spliting an already small market won't make a change. What devcoin needs is to be used by more people, rather than splitting in two coins IMHO.

Maybe fork devcoin into two coins, devcoin2 and wikicoin, and holders could redeem their dvc into which ever direction they wish. Devcoin2 could include bounties to benefit crypto in general, and wikicoin could include many types of media. Just food for thought and conversation, but sometimes change is good, better than stagnating.

I can implement it but gonna require a good server to keep a separate index of Addresses from all transactions and to calculate balances, it will constantly fetch transactions from seed nodes and serve the website so has to be separate infrastructure for resilience.

Is there any chance to have and ongoing bounty of half a share in order to pay an small VPS? I plan to implement historical value in several currencies as well (http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now#block_explorer_with_historical_value), but is gonna take longer...

New Devcoin blockchain explorer, powered by Ophal.org:

Feedback is welcome!
Nice work, need to be able to search by address ideally for my useage though.

Does the utxo set not have what you need?

@sidhujag, do you mean this: https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-reference#gettxoutsetinfo ?
You can use that function but get the utxo of each address or the address you search for from there in a custom function. You can get the size of utxo and calculate balance like the function does.

I'm using the RPC API. Looking for a solution in the forums and stackoverflow, there people suggests to generate a separate database as explained before. Do you think it is viable to add indexes for balances and addresses as well as implementing new functionality for retrieving that info via the RPC API?
Just copy the existing rpc function we spoke about but pass in a searchable address and filter based on that... Call the function via interface.

That way search might take a while but your not storing another db.. Unless feature is heavily used then might make sense to optimize to a new db.

@sidhujag, I found this: https://counterparty.io/docs/bitcoin_core/ a patched Bitcoin core v0.10.2 that adds addrindex. And yeah, it will be heavely used so...

gettxoutsetinfo accepts no params so I'm lost there. We are trying to get balance of all address, not only the ones in local wallet.

i have set the old devcointalk.org forum that went offline on august 2014 on http://old.devcointalk.org/index.php

I am putting the coinzen forum on the new http://www.devcointalk.org and any logins on coinzen should hopefully work on this devcointalk domain (starting this now).  PM me or let me know in here or on the forum if any issues.

Fuzzybear
I'm seeing both are exactly the same, perhaps the DNS still needs to change?
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: September 09, 2015, 05:08:22 PM
Just got a copy of the DB, i'll load this into the forum tonight and all the old coinzen logins and threads should be back up, i'll keep the devcointalk current forum on a seperate sub domain to help transfer any data across from there.  I should be able to get most of this sorted tonight if my internet behaves!

Fuzzybear

Just a word of caution...

Likely you will have members that had old accounts and just created new ones using the same username. Like I did. So not sure what will happen if you try to import usernames that exist on the new forum, but you should expect to run into that.

TT

That should not a be an issue, since we are talking about two separate databases, the old one gets deployed to other subdomain and the new one gets deployed to devcointalk.
358  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying first Bitcoin in 2015, still extremely frustrating.. on: August 25, 2015, 08:11:23 PM
I'll be a bit off-topic but hope you get my advice.

My way to deal with bitcoin is to earn them. I do not convert fiat to bitcoin, just the reverse and only when needed. Not sure if you have it clear but bitcoin is an asset that for some weird reason people want to use as currency.

A safer way to play with cryptocurrencies is altcoins, give DGC, DVC, XRM and the likes a try. Once you earned enough you can trade your altcoins for bitcoin and perhaps to fiat.
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: August 24, 2015, 12:24:01 AM
Why not just use a sub domain of devcoin.org like forum.devcoin.org?

That is the best thing we can make in terms of branding. Just my 2c.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Is using minergate safe? on: July 04, 2015, 07:10:55 PM
That site looks interesting but I'm not familiar to Cryptonight and webmining. Also, some currencies they mine are dead.

Feedback appreciated.
