341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is GPU mining more for beginners than Asics? on: October 24, 2017, 09:00:04 PM
I think ASICs are for beginners for sure since as you said it yourself, they're much simpler/easier.

GPU mining, especially if you're mining coins manually and not through something like nicehash is more complex but earns you more if you spend the time researching coins. There's not much options for ASICs in that regard.

342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPUs working in Windows (confirmed) on: October 24, 2017, 06:09:27 PM
Nice I guess but good luck troubleshooting when the rig just hard freezes due to a faulty riser or something.

Also, it's weird how there aren't any hacks to handle a bunch of Nvidia cards only in windows.

Funny how a decentralized attack (DDoS) is killing a centralized website of a decentralized crypto...
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how BS is this all getting on: October 24, 2017, 02:46:26 PM
ICOs and airdrops are just the natural evolution of premined shitcoins now with some seasoning trying to hide the stench.

We always had a bunch of premined shitcoins but now we just have more because way more people got interested in crypto this year.
They all saw how well Bitcoin did early this year and got the gold rush fever. Some started mining, some started investing but a lot just started throwing money at random coins hoping that will be the next Bitcoin, either out of stupidity/naivity or laziness. And it got to a point where ICOs are basically a form of gambling. No wonder it got banned in a couple of countries.

Also, a few years ago you would had to know how to clone a coin but now anyone and their grandmothers can create tokens.

But not everyone have money to throw at ICOs so here comes airdrops, now everyone can participate and cherish cryptos except airdrop coins are going against what crypto stands for and people don't see that; airdrops are just another form of premine (which is considered a scam for years) and are also centralized and heavily manipulated. "Devs" now can just buy a few dozen/hundred accounts and claim airdrop coins on all of them or just tell people that fuck it, we'll keep a lot of coins because reasons and people will ignore it, spam their signatures/social media/etc until everyone else starts vomiting.

Premine is not the norm though, it's just we're getting absolutely bombarded with premined scams. But hopefully we'll be turning back towards fair coins with PoW mining (which is still the only fair initial coin distribution method) especially with the rapid advances in renewable energy. But of course buying into random scams will always be easier than buying mining hardware...

My wallet is not syncing anymore. Which data I need to replace when installing new wallet? And how to replace it?
Close the wallet, wait till a new version of the wallet is launched in the next hours or days. Read the last two forum pages if you want more info.

Do you think Bittrex will wait days before delisting a coin that's practically doesn't work for days? They delisted coins for less.

I see on Bittrex that Pivx is trading normal, why you say that?

And Pivx is also one of the top crypto trading in BTC-PIV, they will lose too much fee.

Because it's only offline trading, the wallet doesn't work for days. No deposit/withdrawal possible.

PIVx team should really ask us the community for help in testing the next release before releasing.

I will be willing to run tests on all my machines, PIVx has given me enough and I would like to give back and help at least with just testing.  I'm sure many of us here feel the same way.

It was the case for 3.0.0 wallet. We had closed beta testing first, then we opened it up to the community and had open beta testing of zPIV wallet.
We tweeted it afaik and also made it known on slack that anyone can join the beta testing by downloading the RC wallet and provide feedback...

Congrats on having your account back.

The tests were kind of useless considering we have major issues like up to 30-40% autominting instead of 10% and everyone forking left and right and just an overall unusable network for days.

I don't think pushing multiple, such mistakes is acceptable anymore for a ~$180mil marketcap coin. I know PIVX had major issues with forks in the past and it always took a long time to fix them but it's not a small garage project anymore.

With all due respect, when you have to advise all wallets and nodes to be shut down until further notice it indicates an amateurish lack of foresight and poor planning that should be below the PIVX dev team by now.
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DASH mining is not profitable! on: October 19, 2017, 03:37:07 PM
yah once asics get involved it no longer is profitable for gpus

A couple generation of X11 ASICs are out for a while so GPU mining X11 is long pointless but now not just earlier generation ASICs got downgraded into doorstoppers but even the newest, current generation ASICs might not make their investments back considering some people still haven't gotten theirs and how flooded the market is.

We have Bitmain D3 (15Gh/s), PinIdea (17Gh/s), iBelink (10.8Gh/s), Baikal (0.6Gh/s), Innosilicon (30.2Gh/s) that I know of.
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DASH mining is not profitable! on: October 19, 2017, 03:24:44 PM
Because a bunch of X11 ASICs came/coming out which are kicking the difficulty to the moon:

Fake.

The links are going to satoshibox, so it's asking for payment before you can download them. If I remember correctly someone said in another thread they paid for and downloaded one and it was just a regular driver. Could have been malware ridden as well.

Quite a few people click the links though:

but probably only a few bought them.
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Spreadcoin on: October 19, 2017, 08:44:42 AM
Spreadcoin has plenty of issues, "sourgrapes" are not even in the top 3.

 - Georgem for starters might be an awesome dev but he's terrible at leading the project. He refuses others to help him and he wants to do everything at once and only release his evergrowing vision once it's perfect, but in the meantime...

 - Spreadcoin haven't got any wallet updates or features in years; it's as good as an abandoned coin because at this point Georgem finishing have roughly the same chance of people reviving abandoned coins.

 - One of the reasons Helium was created was exactly because of these points and since Helium is a split off the Spread chain, there was naturally heavy market manipulation from the start which just recently died with the split.

I don't think without Helium the price of Spread would have shot up as much as it did, and it probably would have slowly dwindled maybe even lower than it is now.

I still hold some Spreadcoin as I liked the project a lot in the beginning but Gerogem I think killed it a long time ago with all the broken promises and soons™ and delay. "Living" in a hugbox of hardcore fans on their own forum certainly doesn't help either. Funny, for a coin with a motto of "decentralize everything" a central power that is Georgem is the reason why the coins is where it is now...
352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did i burn my gpu ? Help please on: October 19, 2017, 05:32:45 AM
i just did this today Sad

i wasn't paying attention and put the little card backwards.. and smoked it..

thing is, i turned it around and its still working.. did not seem to get the cards..
i guess it depends on the riser boards? really there should be no power running through the pcie on the motherboard to the riser.. thats why you connect the riser to molex.. there should be diode to keep the power going only to the gpu.

it seems by putting the card in backwards you ground out the boards pcie power.. unfortunately without a riser i don't think the board will work anymore as i smoked the pcie port.. :/

The very first PCI-E connections before the notch do carry 12V and 3.3V (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#Form_factors).

What the fuck guys? Forced autoconverting into zPIV is very unprofessional.

And it's converted way more than 10%.

Was not the best result, unfortunately. The autoconvert was for liquidity which I appreciate the possible need for, but the more than 10% was ick.

Yes, but changes like these should be opt-in, not opt-out. Feels like less decentralized where devs force changes like this to unsuspecting users. Yeah, it could have been disabled but not everyone knew about it in time and it's worded such that only exchanges should use it.

Also, despite all the testing it's still problematic (~30% autoconvert, can't send, sending takes forever) which doesn't look good.
354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did i burn my gpu ? Help please on: October 19, 2017, 02:23:14 AM
Best case scenario I think is that you only killed the PCI-E slot on the motherboard in which you plugged that riser in backwards, along with the riser.

But I don't think the card is damaged.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: bittrex giving me and error after i sent my verification documents on: October 18, 2017, 09:46:07 AM
I cleaned out almost all of my Bittrex balance because they're getting close to randomly force verification. My account has a legacy status (1337 BTC limit) and I have yet to give them any info, not even my name after all these years.

As far as I see it, having to give your name to trade defeats the purpose of cryptos. I'm not using cryptos to anything illegal (other than trading anonymously apparently) and I don't see much of a difference between exchanges being compromised by hackers or the US government. And I'm not even from the US.

357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Gold: what exactly are we "mining"? on: October 18, 2017, 07:09:29 AM
Mining is there to secure the network by advancing the blocks - even if they're empty.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Gold - No Premine Client on: October 18, 2017, 05:08:35 AM
This is nice and all but they already have pool operators involved who will likely run the premined version so blocks will be found there - which is the deciding factor here (longest chain, not node count).

If you seriously want to throw a wrench into it and remove the premine it will take much more effort than changing a line, you'd need to convince pool operators, miners, exchanges, etc.

360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SSDH (Solid State Hybrid) on: October 13, 2017, 08:51:24 AM
I had one and it's like a HDD with a big cache. Recently accessed small files are fast to handle but that's about it.

The SSD part in mine had issues after maybe 2 years so the drive is useless, unless I disable caching.

Not worth the money imo. Unless you need a huge amount of storage (like for mining) I'd definitely go with SSD.
