701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: holy shit! EOS hardcore scam - renamed BitShares - You will NOT like this?! on: June 28, 2017, 12:24:46 PM

This is crazy.

About time to wake people up from the ICO fever.
702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 pin to dual 8 pin (6+2) on: June 28, 2017, 10:16:44 AM
Contacted EVGA and they do not have 8+8 cables in any form (like 6+2 + 6+2).

Only 8+6.

So there's some misunderstanding here.

When we're talking about 8 or 6-pin cables we're talking about the usable end which you can plug into the cards. The 8-pin end you plug into the PSU doesn't matter.
703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Do I need to verified my bittrex account ? on: June 28, 2017, 09:23:58 AM
Unless you have a legacy account - which allows for 1337 BTC withdrawals per day without any information like name.

The moment that stops will be the moment I'll stop using Bittrex.
704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How many hacked polo accounts does it take for them to make 2fa mandatory? on: June 28, 2017, 09:19:46 AM
In case any of you were wondering. I boot from a live linux cd before any exchange activity or email and reboot inbetween steps.

And just randomly the account gets hit right after contacting customer support.

I still have the qora in my account, that is evidence of a crime. If they delete it they are destroying evidence.

Polo also made and kept the transaction fees from the theft.

Thats pretty fucked up to make money off of a theft.

I don't believe you. Why not just use 2FA instead of this nonsense then? Unless you use a unique, otherwise unused email, with a unique password, it's a useless excercise.

You have to have your email hacked to allow the hacker to recover your poloniex password and do the deed.
705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PivX is inflationary so why shuld you buy it? on: June 28, 2017, 09:12:23 AM
Okay

What do you guys mean by keeping the wallet open all the time? Can I still turn of my computer when I do this?

Or what do you mean by that? If a masternode costs me 10000 PivX and I buy one.. I then have to have my wallet "open" all the time? What happens if I close it? And what do I have to do to close it?

And what is staking? I mean, I just want to hold coins and see them appreciate in value. I don't want to do anything painful that smarter computer-guys are able to do.

What happens if I only buy coins to keep it in my wallet. Is this called "staking" also? or is that just called "holding" your coins or something?

I am confused over these terms.

I mean, maybe I lose out on some big reward by not masternoding/staking and if it is not too much work I want those services as well. But maybe it involves a lot of complexities? And then I just want to hold the coins and forget about them for a while.

Holding is just basically not selling your coins, long term investing.

Staking is when you have any amount of coins in your wallet which you're running 0-24h and get rewarded for it for currently ~2 PIVX per staking reward. The frequency of these rewards depends on the amount of PIVX you have in your wallet. If you close the wallet or turn off your computer you stop staking (and stop getting rewards).

Masternodes are very similar but they have to have a set amount of PIVX but since they're not just simple nodes (=running wallets) they earn a bit more than staking.

Masternodes are usually hosted on servers designed just for this purpose so that you don't have to run your computer 0-24h. You just run your local wallet to control the remote masternode. You can (and should) run masternodes safely, meaning that if the server were to get hacked you don't lose your coins.

As far as I know you can't stake coins like that remotely so it would be risky to stake them on a remote server so people tend to stake on their own computer or an old laptop running 0-24h, etc.
706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: June 28, 2017, 01:02:26 AM
dump and dump  - the best strategy ever Cheesy

Where you one of the guys who mined ethereum the first 6 months and dumped it @ $0.60 a coin ? Then you missed a 500x increase.
I think a mix is best.. Keep some and dump some. But spread the risk on more than one coin.

I hold because I can afford to hold exactly because I made some nice profits... from holding while everyone else was dumping for a few slices of pizzas worth of profits.

And even then I still missed out on a few dozen Bitcoins on stuff like DGB and Verge - because I didn't hold long enough.

But I'm not complaining, you can't win them all.
707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How many hacked polo accounts does it take for them to make 2fa mandatory? on: June 28, 2017, 12:53:43 AM
You guys are funny.

Polo clearly isnt safe for accounts without 2fa.

Polo knows its site continually gets hacked by this type of attack.

Polo is guilty by allowing this to continue. Easy lawsuit win.

Edit. Polo also made and kept money from the fraud, ie transaction fees. Sounds guilty by association to me.

If anything, your mindset is what I find funny. Your famous US arrogance that some people over the pond have is seeping right through.

If you have a properly safe password and don't have a keylogger or session stealer you're fine.

AFAIK polo still requires you to click on a confirmation through an email link in case of a withdrawal so in order for anyone to get their funds stolen they would have to have both their Polo and their email compromised.

Lawsuit...   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone excited about blocktix ICO? on: June 27, 2017, 11:27:43 PM
Anyone excited about the upcoming blocktix ICO?

whats your thoughts? Good or bad project?

I was never excited about any ICO whatsoever and I just can't wait for the next iteration of the usual "ripping of newbies of crypto scheme" that comes after ICOs as it became more than boring.
709  Other / Meta / Re: Are ICOs "Altcoins" and should they be considered off topic (banned)? on: June 27, 2017, 11:24:42 PM
ICOs launched in Ethereum / Waves are not cryptocurrencies.

They are not seperate chains or altcoins.

They have no security, mining, installation, individual wallets.

I fail to see how they are altcoins at all.  Shouldn't they be considered off topic and banned from this board?

I would love it so much if that was the case.

A few years ago when threads of wallet builders premined scam coins could be reported and consequently removed was a thing, I see no reason it shouldn't happen with tokens under other coins (Eth/Waves).

But times have changed so I remain skeptical if we're ever going to see such "coins" separated from "real" coins.

One could hope though.
710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PivX is inflationary so why shuld you buy it? on: June 27, 2017, 11:18:49 PM
Ok, fair enough.

But why don't they just do it like Dash, or BitCoin, and keep a limited supply over time?

I mean it is possible to split it and then not loose value and at the same time let new investors in.

Also, can someone explain what a mesternode is and what staking is in really easy terms.

I have heard that a masternode is a computer. So if I buy the right amount of Dash or PivX is that going to get me a masternode? Am I(and my computer) then the masternode, or do I just pay for someone to act as a masternode somewhere else?

And when I have a masternode do I have to do anything? I am not very keen on doing something with my computer. I just want to hold the coins and do nothing. Not mine it or anything. Just hold it and look at the chart once in a while.

The great thing about PIVX is that anyone can submit proposals to the network and PIVX owners can vote on said proposals and so far every winning proposal have been developed by the dev team. So, in essence you could propose to eliminate the inflation but chances are it won't be voted in - at this time. Or, who knows.

And yes, masternodes are very simplistically speaking are like staking wallets but with more rewards than simple staking wallets. But then again, you can only have 10000 PIVX per masternode (no more, no less) unlike staking, where you can stake any number of coins.
711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How many hacked polo accounts does it take for them to make 2fa mandatory? on: June 27, 2017, 08:14:00 PM
Polo continually is getting hacked. User accounts without 2fa are the target. Value in said accounts is traded out to the attackers benefit.

Polo is complacent in this. They know and do nothing. They are enabling this to happen. Most likely they are insolvent and or are in on it. Very shaddy!

Its time for a class action lawsuit.

Please....

Lawsuit because of stupid people?

People who gamble with ICOs are asking to get ripped off,
people who download all kinds of crap wallets/miners are asking to get hacked and
people who refuse to use 2FA are asking to get hacked - simple as that.

You can learn from other people's mistakes or you can learn the hard way. I learnt the hard way but I didn't blame the exchange, I blamed myself.

Like many other, Poloniex provides a simple service, it's like a tool. Educate people how to use said tools instead of blaming the tool itself.

Do you really think that people who are not using 2FA are making the necessary steps not to be hacked otherwise? Be it password security, antivirus, etc. They are all likely oblivious to all of this and you should educate them instead of blaming exchanges or other services.
712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PivX is inflationary so why shuld you buy it? on: June 27, 2017, 04:06:49 PM
Hi

I wonder why people want to buy PivX when this crypto is inflationary?

I think the inflation rate was something like 5% a year or so.

The whole idea with a cryptocurrency is to have a limited amount so why would anyone buy PivX?

Also, what are some good exchanges, if I want to buy this currency? (secure and trustworthy)

5% yearly is nothing in crypto. Most coins swing that much in a day.

And even without fluctuations the 5% inflation would be offset by 5% more investors and it's safe to say that investors are growing much faster than that.
713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does having GPU into monitor too slow down mining? on: June 27, 2017, 03:49:43 PM
Removing the monitor cable from the card does nothing, you want to use another GPU (like onboard) as your primary GPU if you want the maximum performance from the mining card. In that case plugging a monitor into the mining card does nothing - no picture as it's not the primary monitor.

But the difference is negligible.

714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does having GPU into monitor too slow down mining? on: June 27, 2017, 02:20:50 PM
Doesn't matter much. Active monitors have a bit less memory because windows is loaded into it to which used to be a problem when you needed all the memory you could get (Scrypt-Jane).

Now that doesn't matter and you probably won't notice the tiny slowdown, stuff will just get laggy.

715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: WIth all this mess, everybody forgot about this CO on: June 27, 2017, 01:36:20 AM
https://ico.primalbase.com/

We have pretty good idea there ,using the power of collaboration and sharing of the Blockchain

Silver lining in all the mess we saw today: people did forget about ICOs.
There are still some spots open, I managed to put a few ETH there.

Finally, it is not a bad day :-)

I really wish I could setup keywords by which woulc be exception to email notifications. I mean not getting an email notification every time some dumbass is announcing or advertising another retarded 'ICO' would cut all the emails in at least half.

Sometimes you are very grateful for a handy roll of duct tape.

Sure, duct tape is one of my biggest friends, but then again I wouldn't use that for critical projects...

718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BURST mining exploit or botnet? on: June 26, 2017, 04:09:05 PM
The pool owner said that user had connections from 15k IPs.

It's without a doubt a botnet.

Watt 15k IPS? definately a bot net then but wouldn't the user know if the pcs are compromosed?

I would guess hiding Burst mining is much easier than CPU or GPU mining.

You only notice that you don't have much free space (depending on how much space is being used, likely not all of them) while CPU/GPU mining causes lags and fan noise due to heat so it's easier to notice.

And I'd guess you could Burst mine even on stuff like Raspberry PIs or even smartphones without their owner easily noticing them.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why exchanges have almost the same price? on: June 26, 2017, 12:33:15 PM
Arbitrage.

Difference in prices between exchanges can be used to turn a profit; buy on the exchange where stuff is cheaper and sell them on another where prices are higher.

So it's caused by traders (and bots).
