341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why we can't have nice things. on: November 28, 2011, 01:08:50 PM
We can all bash on Bruce all we want but he has done more than 99% of us to help get Bitcoin where it is today.

Last Price: 2.32499

I couldn't agree with you more.

Very nice.

I await the followup Wired article.  I would suggest someone from here start contacting them first before they find out the fun about Bruce on their own.
342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: namecoin are low, why? on: November 13, 2011, 05:46:32 AM
I actually kind of wish Namecoin was just go away as far as being something traded.  I like my digital currencies to have only one purpose.   A neat idea, should just go the way of Ripple or whatever.  Where it has some kind of user base, but not enough to do anything.
343  Other / Meta / Re: Administrators and Moderators: A Serious Issue Regarding Illegal Activities on: November 13, 2011, 05:12:05 AM
Wow, those full thread quotes actually make reading a breeze.  Someone should edit the first post to be one of the quote ones.

Locked thread brings up an interesting point, about Atlas having so many names.  But doesn't he close each one before dedicating himself to the next user name?    However, what I did not catch is that alt accounts are allowed.  I have been here for too long and did not know this.  Level of trust in users has gone from low to some kind of negative numbers now.    I guess if these things can be faked, might as well just let it go on freely rather than try to contain it.
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: like it or not, the SR is only killer application of bitcoin since it was born, on: November 09, 2011, 04:24:09 AM
For example, bitcoin enables anonymous racketeering and extortion.  The sniper guy who ran around Washington DC a decade ago demanded funds on his VISA, if he could have demanded Bitcoins he would be far less traceable.

Is anyone else surprised no one has coded an assassination market on Tor/Bitcoin yet? http://www.reddit.com/r/HackBloc/comments/i10zt/is_anyone_else_surprised_no_one_has_coded_an/
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What defines a cryptocurrency? on: November 09, 2011, 12:46:59 AM
Seems this is just a topic too hard for even Wikipedia lol

346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin - Let it drop already on: November 09, 2011, 12:25:30 AM
Solidcoin may be alot of things BTCP, but a Scam is not one of them. All the FUD put out by all of the litecoin/tenebrix fan boys has been nauseating. The fact of the matter is that these people haven't changed shit, their chains haven't improved a single thing from the original Bitcoin client. Solidcoin fundamentally changes things, and while the majority of people on this forum are "against" what that change represents, that doesn't make it a "scam". The code is released, and everything that has been said can be reviewed by independent analysis. You don't need a single dime to invest in Solidcoin since you can easily mine with any laptop thanks to it's CPU friendly algorithm. If you are looking to invest real money you should watch out with ANY online crypto-currency INCLUDING Bitcoin...
At no point did I call SolidCoin a scam there sir, please re-read Smiley  I own some of those ScamCoins the kids keep talking about, I am not trying to hinder my 'investment' ..of my free time.      I still check SolidCoinTalk every so often, not as much anymore, but in the end I do question what is considered a "CryptoCurrency" and what does not, that is all.     Maybe people seeing or thinking SolidCoin as a cryptocurrency rather than another form of digital currency much like PayPal or Dwolla would actually be better for SolidCoin itself.    If everyone knew and understood exactly how RealSolid can control the network in some cases, but he does not have full control, and all those other crazy little nuances that keep getting their own threads, wouldn't be issues if it was part of how the coin is advertised.  If these are the best features of SolidCoin, they should be touted as such, not looked down upon, right?

Edit: Used the term 'ScamCoin' in this post as a joke btw
347  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 09, 2011, 12:17:22 AM
Does not take a genius to figure out what's annoying and what isn't.

Smaller SIG and no animated avatar seems the best cut-off.

Sorry btcPorn

Don't be sorry to me, be sorry to yourself for not "voting" every time this topic has come up and even I am happy either with no sigs or regulated sigs.  Hell, I am a fan of everyone signatures being EXACTLY the same in design..  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=24367.0  back from June.  I still stand by that would be a cool idea too.  Fuck all other things in everyones signature, just a btc address.

Animated avatar I could care less about, it is funny how two frames of animation that end up being less in size than one jpeg image most people use, but that is beside the point.  Oh wait, no it isn't :p

Always felt sig sizes should just be sort of standard ad sizes.  468x60 or something around that I think.  Other people prefer sig bar size.  I like those too.    theymos, is the further discussion on this topic done or are you kind of reading through some of the posts here to catch any actual usable ideas?

I don't want to be part of ANY forum that does not listen to the wishes of its members, privately owned or not. The ideology of bitcoin is one of the rejection of centralized power structures that are inflexible to the wishes of those they rule over. If this forum is not willing to do so, then most of us will just join one that listens to them and bye-bye forum.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy empty threats.  No one leaves here for good.  Even the ones that did still lurk lol
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Photo hour special forum auction - Richard Stallman on: November 09, 2011, 12:02:07 AM
I really think the idea was good, I highly highly suggest getting with someone here before hand next time is all.  But yes, "Bitcoin Discussion" portion of Bitcointalk.org is not what it used to represent as something valuable to the Bitcoin Community/Communities, sucks because I don't believe a lot of people caught on.
349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Photo hour special forum auction - Richard Stallman on: November 08, 2011, 08:29:40 PM
I have no idea what is going on in this thread  Cheesy   I feel bad for laughing.

Edit: I am trying to figure out what is going on.  Please retitle original post and put more information as to what specifically is going on.    A 6 hour event based on a thread created in "Bitcoin Discussion" .. isn't this more of a marketplace thing?    /r/Bitcoin gets more traffic than this place depending on content of post, too many people I think believe heavy traffic comes from these forums alone or something.

Edit 2:

Awesome picture man.  Good luck.   I hope this isn't discouraging to the point where you won't see what things you can learn from this auction to make another one better Smiley
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin - Let it drop already on: November 08, 2011, 08:18:13 PM
Whatever happened to the discussion on what defines a cryptocurrency, and how that applies to SolidCoin and how the control of the network is handled.  Are these unrelated things?
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin - Let it drop already on: November 08, 2011, 08:07:40 PM
At this stage anyone who gets involved in SolidCoin is either too dumb to read or is just looking for someone to rip them off.
I don't know, I figure there has to be some excellent scammers out there that could see the whole SolidCoin situation as it is currently and figure a way to rip more people off.  Someone should make a thread about that as not to derail this thread that has topics never brought up ever.
352  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 08, 2011, 07:46:33 PM
Animated avatars are the worst.   Also, I love how strong of an opinion everyone has at the moment when this topic has come up so many times yet I don't think I have ever seen this much activity about it.
pot, kettle.
Post was for the lulz.   I love avatars.  I hate sigs, but I am fine with them within size constraints.  I think I've participated in this type of topic a few times in the Meta section, so no pots or kettles here Smiley  just people whining about censorship and democracy issues on a privately owned forum.

There are many other forums available with many posting options https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin:Community_portal    .. and a lot of those are not hosted on MagicalTux's servers, so no fear of the whole Mt Gox controls everything situation I sometimes read about.

354  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 07, 2011, 10:43:31 PM
since the policy has always been that the entire signature area can't be much larger than 468px x 60px.

I honestly must have forgot about this, I didn't know there was constraints already.  I kept seeing that intersango site's large header and thought that would be too large, but no one said anything.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate cryptocurrencies forum section improvement suggestions on: November 07, 2011, 10:47:12 AM
I had a license of XenForo laying around from an old failed project of mine so I took the plunge and set everything up: http://liteco.in/

I think it may be time to analyze this whole scammer tag and figure out what can be done lol.  I believe you have enough supporters of the community of Litecoin itself where you could probably set up a donation page to cover the costs to buy whatever it is that the people who got from you feel was ripped off. I am purposely staying out of more specifics than that, don't want to derail this thread, but just based on the idea of whatever the issue is, the people would take care of it, your name is clear, your links now have a chance to be clicked by users who do not know your history.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate cryptocurrencies forum section improvement suggestions on: November 07, 2011, 09:59:17 AM
If any alt currency gets big enough where it needs subforums, I think that should be a sign to anyone with some space to share each month for forums, or even as a joke, use ezboards, freeboards, proboards, or whatever, to start up a chance for a larger community for any given coin.

A suggestion that people may think I am joking about, but if anyone has any true interest, go to this page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin:Community_portal and hit up a lot of the unused boards.  Ask the mods or admins if they would want to support another alternative digital currency on their forums.  I believe people would rather their forum software go used than unused.  I do not believe anyone here would be against any of these forums having started as a Bitcoin based forum.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally visited the SilkRoad on: November 07, 2011, 09:41:43 AM
Do you know how much those tracking devices cost? Wait, do you know how much it costs for the DEA to investigate and prosecute someone? I really don't think the DEA is all that worried about some Joe Blow purchasing a quarter oz of weed and 500mg of MDMA. Let's not fail to mention that there is literally NOTHING linking the buyer to the purchase

I am not sure why anyone at this point wouldn't think they would be going after buyers just for the same fact that you listed.  Though nothing links them in theory, people do trace transactions going on in the Bitcoin network, enough where shit like this exists https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50037.0 , so it seems to be an ongoing battle at the moment.  Winning or not, I think it is silly to think they wouldn't fight this thing if they don't even have to get up from their computer to check on it.
358  Other / Meta / Re: No more signature images on: November 07, 2011, 09:35:15 AM
This can't be enforced automatically, and it would be difficult to enforce through moderation.
I believe a more false statement cannot be made.  I guarantee as soon as people know the image size rules, you will never see more people ratting on other Bitcoin Forum users than ever.  If no one is ratting, they truly do not mind the image size.   I assure you though, someone will always notice.  Been on forums before that had self regulation of this specific kind that worked.

Check with the people at this place http://bitcoin.meetup.com/, I think California has active Bitcoin people that actually meet irl.

Aw, I get all the shit spam.  I got a PM from this guy https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=41052 who starts off by calling me BRO in all caps.

In the defense of the guy, he was spamming me with some ad services he is going to run, which I did have a thread somewhat about.  However if he read the thread like a good spammer, he would see I would be the one taking ads, not buying any, porn never needs to be advertised on the internet  Cheesy   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49361.0
