341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you sell your bitcoin to blackrock? on: December 27, 2023, 12:13:42 PM
Maybe there's an oil deposit underneath your house?
Hm.  That very much reminds me of the movie There Will Be Blood.  And the farmers got suckered and sold their land.

Anyway, Blackrock?  They own everything.  Just go to Yahoo Finance or any other site that lists the major shareholders of any corporation that's public and 99 times out of 100 they're one of the top 3 holders of any given stock.  It's crazy.  In fact, the same names pop up every time, like Vanguard Group, State Street Corporation, etc.  Anyway.

The question OP posed is silly IMO.  It's a scenario that isn't going to happen, and it's not even an interesting hypothetical.  Unless Blackrock had some inside information along the lines of the US government intending to make an enormous purchase of bitcoin, they would have no more information about bitcoin's future performance than any of us.  Oil can be located underneath a house without the homeowners knowing it, but bitcoin?  Nah.
342  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: December 26, 2023, 03:39:38 AM
I decided to take my Christmas break Only to get notifications on accusations that I am possibly an alt.Well I am not so surprised as this is not the first time I have been wrongly accused.
All right, wait a sec here.  I didn't outright accuse you or Hatchy of being alt accounts if you read my post closely, just that you've both sent merits to each other and to Cantsay and that I'm keeping an eye on it.  I said that a possible reason for that is the Nigeria connection, which would argue that you aren't alt accounts--and in any case I'm not going to refuse a post history request from you unless there's hard evidence that I'm being taken advantage of, so let's not blow this out of proportion.

What would your reaction be if you were accused of having an alt account and<snip>
I don't know, but what I will say is that the thread that OP linked to in which you posted that detailed information right after the thread was started looks very suspicious.  The fact that Dextro1 only has 4 posts since that thread was started in October is also suspicious, and along with the fact that the thread was locked makes it very much seem as though someone was trying to cover their tracks.

Also, the reason I'm keeping an eye on the members I've mentioned is that I've also gotten post history review requests from Amphenomenon, who also merited you for the post in question and though I said there's no hard evidence of Hatchy and Mia Chloe being alts, if I'm being honest I'm not ruling it out.  I'm just being alert, because I've been fooled and my review offer has been abused before.
343  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: December 25, 2023, 12:01:03 PM
I'm glad that someone still shows the sense to separate the good from the bad, but I'm also disappointed when I see that the majority still tolerates such behavior as if it's something completely normal and not more than obvious abuse of merits.
Tolerate it how exactly?  Merit abuse has always been kind of a controversial topic as far as what actions should be taken by the community, and personally I don't tag merit abusers because Theymos implied that they shouldn't be (IIRC).

The Nigerian community seems to be a very tight one, and that's the only lingering reservation I have about all of this.  I noticed that Mia Chloe and Hatchy are in the "merit circle" of Cantsay, and I believe they're both Nigerian.  I don't have any evidence that they're alt accounts, so I'm not going to say anything other than I've taken notice of who's giving merits to who when I'm doing post history reviews.

BTW, I like the way you shrunk the font on the quoted text.  I may have to steal that from you.
344  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: December 25, 2023, 03:20:38 AM
He didn't stay silent, he added you to his distrust list. https://loyce.club/trust/2023-11-04_Sat_05.07h/3435148.html
Judging by the reasons why he did that, obviously an improper use of the trust system.
I'm scratching my head wondering if that is indeed improper, because if someone created a thread about me with an accusation that was false, would I be wrong for not trusting that member's judgement?  Yep, it looks retaliatory on Cantsay's part but looking at it from his perspective, I'm just questioning what I might do or at least think of doing.

But that's only if the accusation was false.  I got a request to do a post history review from Cantsay, and I'm glad I started checking members' trust pages before doing them, because after checking his and then following Lucius's link to this thread I think I'm going to have to skip him for the reasons you guys have pointed out here.  I have enough evidence that something fishy is afoot to justify that decision.

Oh, and Cantsay's got me on his trust list so I'm expecting to be removed.  Lol.  Set the timer....now.
345  Economy / Reputation / Re: Legends_Never_Die thinks my degree in math is fake because he is stupid. on: December 25, 2023, 01:12:45 AM
Yes. You are wrong. Not only are you wrong, but you are also too stupid to realize that you are wrong. You understand absolutely nothing. You are a garbage human being. You need to be locked up for the rest of your miserable life.
That's pretty harsh--and that's coming from a person who's said some damn harsh things himself.  I do hope for the sake of human beings in your vicinity that you aren't and never will be in a position of power.

Digaran got banned?  Huh.  If that's true I guess what I wrote about trolls getting banned was wrong.  In any event, now I'm wondering who's alt OP is, as it seems as though his agenda is similar to that of cryptohunter and several other members who've got major issues with DT and/or specific members of the forum (not that there aren't problems with the concept and implementation of a default trust list, but that's beside the point).

I've got nothing to say as far as a math degree goes, so I guess I'll see OP in his next thread.  Curious as well who his next target's going to be.
346  Other / Meta / Re: Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 12/07/2023 on: December 24, 2023, 10:00:26 AM
Congratulations to you sir, the total merit is very good and I like the tip Cheesy, although my total merit is the opposite of yours (my tip is 96) yes now your merit is more than 1, four digits which is amazing. Even if I glance at your merit and activity 1:2 it's amazing, I will look forward to you going up to 7777 like a towering arrow that continues to shoot, I like it too like a bow, success to you in the best time, I really enjoy people achieving achievements with unique and motivating me an empty space therapy to fill and say if it's possible. Grin
Speaking of tips, you used a hell of a lot of words there but I'll be damned if I know exactly what you're saying.  If you're trying to climb the merit ladder I would suggest trying to express your thoughts concisely--especially if English isn't your first language, which I'm guessing is the case.

Also, I got airdropped 1000 merits back in January 2018 when Theymos slapped all of the shitposters and account farmers in one gigantic smack on the day the merit system was unleashed on the forum, so deduct that from my total number of merits, and that's what I've earned.  It might seem like a lot, but they were earned over nearly six years so I'm not exactly burning down the house like some other members are.
347  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 🦊🦊🦊🦊4 YEARS🦊🦊🦊🦊 (248 weeks) rented out] on: December 24, 2023, 01:00:32 AM
I know that Foxpup is the owner, but one of your members asked me about Foxpup Merit Cycling Club Satochip Limited Edition cards.
Oh, you sneaky devil, you.

I won't order anything for privacy reasons, and I know I'm not the only one.
I'm horny and would do anything right now.  And I will confess it was my idea to commemorate Foxpup and the Club with a Satochip.

I make the decisions here (such as those decisions are), and I have no interest in authorising any sort of official merchandise. Sorry.
Sorry, my master.  I was out of line in doing so and shall accept the whip with bottom bared for a good flogging.  T'was Foxpup's generosity and the exclusivity of the campaign that sparked my desire to press the seal of memory into something physical so as to withstand time and dementia.  The thought is now out of my depraved mind and my limbs tightly bound to the post.  Give it to me good, because I deserve it.
348  Economy / Reputation / Re: GazetaBitcoin and his shenanigans. on: December 24, 2023, 12:15:48 AM
I'm not gonna step into this shit without my muck boots on, but I did want to clarify a post I made in another thread:

I know who you're referring to here and even a few details about what you're talking about, even if other might not.  Speaking for myself only, I'm not taking sides in any feud between you and the other party <snip>

Seems I was absolutely incorrect about who Royse777 was talking about, and I don't think I had any part in this beef between campaign managers.

OK, I'll dip my sandals.  PMs ought not be published like this IMO.  That said, I believe I'm guilty of posting some spammers' or shitposters' PMs in the past but I have repented before Buddha, rubbed his belly and rotated them rosary beads clockwise.  I've been washed in the blood of the lamb.  Not a good practice, especially when the PMs are coming from an active, senior member of the forum.

The community needs to come up with a set of rules for escrows and any other person that holds coins intended for others.
To misuse the coins for any other purpose is embezzlement, and the "legal team" would have mentioned that right away.
Vod, you know that hasn't happened yet and you've been here longer than most members have been of legal drinking age.  It's doubtful any set of rules is going to be adopted and adhered to.  It's a free-for-all and always has been.
349  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SATOCHIP Bitcointalk Limited Edition HW cards! on: December 23, 2023, 11:28:32 PM
The Satoshi Edition Satochip has arrived, after waiting for over a week I finally have this card now.
Awesome--thanks for posting pics.  I guess there wasn't such a need for a holder as I originally thought, because it looks like the card is well-protected to begin with and on top of that they included one of those sleeves.  Very cool.  I don't think when I bought a regular Satochip that I got a sleeve included, but I used a Ballet wallet plastic snap-shut case and it fits perfectly.

And now I'm kicking myself for not realizing there were more cards in the series than just the first.  It sucks not having a friggin' brain sometimes, I swear.
350  Other / Meta / Re: BCT vs BTT abbreviation for this forum on: December 23, 2023, 09:49:53 PM
D-oo-oo-h!  How in the world did I miss this topic?

I don't know why BTT is even used as an abbreviation for BitCoinTalk, and I've seen it used so many times that I've just stopped wondering.  And hey, even though I'm an opinionated bastard and am an ardent supporter of "BCT" as shorthand for our forum's name as well as a strong opponent of using mBTC as a unit of measure, this is crypto.  This is bitcointalk.  Everyone is free to write what they want as far as those things go.

And maaaan.....I missed the voting deadline for the poll.  My Christmas is just ruined now.
351  Other / Meta / Re: Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 12/07/2023 on: December 23, 2023, 01:25:40 AM
Dammit!!  I had 6665 merits and was all set to make a post here when I hit 6666, as I usually only get a single merit at a time, but someone (I have not checked and will not) denied me that paltry pleasure by thrusting me past the quadruple-six mark before I could even blink.

Oh well.  Maybe if and when I get to 7777 I'll check back here and tell the world how lucky I am--but at the rate I'm going, I'll be making that post from a nursing home if they're kind enough to lend me a PC.  Lol.

352  Economy / Reputation / Re: How is digaran not banned from this site? on: December 23, 2023, 12:49:58 AM
The only thing digaran might be accused of successfully is being a troll, and it's damn hard to get oneself banned for doing that here.  If bans were liberally handed out for perceived trolling, then we wouldn't have had to endure cryptohunter's tirades for years, not to mention his legion of alt accounts.  Compared to all of the crap they collectively spewed, digaran is nothing.

And frankly, I don't even see digaran as a troll.  He's just someone who's got contrary opinions (and is maybe trolling just a little).

OP, it's already been suggested that you use that nice little ignore button, so why don't you try that instead of bothering with trying to get rid of someone with whom you disagree/don't like reading posts from/whatever?  It's not going to happen anyway, so spare yourself the gray hair and aggravation, no?

This site is full of retards like digiran with maggots in their blood.

This site is full of harassers ^^.  How is jvanname not banned from this site?
Ah, you're a breath of fresh air Vod.  And by the way....maggots in his blood?  Yikes.  Hey, Dr. o_e_l_e_o, how would you go about treating that particular condition?  Leeches?
353  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [SEEKING][ChiBitCTy???] Anyone have contact with ChiBitCTy?! on: December 22, 2023, 09:52:13 PM
FedEx will not deliver to a USPS PO Box no matter what.  It's in fact illegal to even do so.
I knew that without even having considered it--if you were a paperboy back when paperboys used to deliver newspapers, you couldn't even put one in a subscriber's mailbox.  Only USPS mail goes there; everything else is illegal by default.  But you're damn right that FedEx is wrong for having accepted that as an address in the first place.

And Jesus, even the post office will play nice and return mail they've accidentally destroyed in a separate envelope with an apology.  I know they're not strictly a government agency, but that's some surprising decency on their part.  I don't know why a public company like FedEx would pull crap like what's described here.

ChiBitCTy, is it cheaper to use FedEx than the USPS or something?  I don't want to drag this off-topic, but with postage going up I'm inclined to look for alternatives.  What you wrote doesn't make FedEx sound promising as one, but perhaps UPS is better (and I haven't used them before either).
354  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Campaigns in the Service Board on: December 22, 2023, 08:18:15 PM
Bitcoin transaction fees have skyrocketed due to the increase in the price of Bitcoin which has resulted in many people paying huge fees to make Bitcoin transactions.
I'm not sure that's correct--fees are up because there are a lot of transactions vying for a spot in the next block, not necessarily because the price has increased.  In other words, it takes more sats/byte to get a quick confirmation than it did prior to the price exploding, but said explosion isn't necessarily the reason.  Someone please correct me if I'm way off base.

That isn't the point of the thread, however.  OP, you got your answer already and even though that's true, I have to say it'd be so much easier financially if campaigns paid out in a crypto like LTC or something similar simply because the network fees are nearly always much lower--but yep, that's the way Theymos wants all of this organized.  It might not make complete sense, but we're all just peasants in his fiefdom.

I partially agree with Stompix, but a mix of the Bitcoin service section and the altcoin service section would look more spammy. Signature campaigns play a major role in keeping active on the forum; honestly, we can't ignore that. So I think it would be better to add a section for signature campaigns beside the service section.
Not a bad idea.  In fact, it's not the first time I've seen it suggested--and given the fact that the suggestion can't go anywhere without Theymos acting on it, I wouldn't plan on a new section for campaigns.

C'mon, Theymos!  This would be a good change to make and wouldn't be hard to do or require more moderation.
355  Economy / Economics / Re: Used cars and real estate market very volatile and a lot people will fomo in on: December 22, 2023, 11:46:04 AM
Meh, I'm skeptical of technical analysis of any sort (actually, I'm a non-believer) but it doesn't take all of that TA mumbo-jumbo to realize when people are starting to jump into any market--the only thing you need to see in a chart is an upward trend.

Used cars have been going up in price for quite some time if I'm not mistaken, as has real estate.  And Christ, it's become so expensive to even rent an apartment I'm surprised the number of homeless people hasn't spiked hundreds of percentage points.  People who own real estate and rent it out must be making a killing.

in fact REIT and other real estate investment app are going to popping up everywhere and people can start invest in 1$ even tho for young people like me would be very hard to own a house
Yep, REITs are great for people like me who don't want the hassle of buying property and paying all of the fees, taxes, and maintenance costs associated with land ownership but want to invest in real estate nonetheless.  And if you're a dividend investor, most of them pay out crazy amounts and some of them pay monthly.  So for those of you who haven't heard of them, do a little research and see if they're for you.
356  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Fuck you ledger on: December 22, 2023, 03:32:03 AM
Ledger's lies turned me off of all HW wallets for the time being
Don't blame all hardware wallets for one company's evils and ineptness.  That's just foolish.  The issue isn't even the companies that make the wallets.  The issue is the trustworthiness of the people at those companies.
I try not to be foolish, but again I'm one of those who don't fully understand what goes on under the hood, if you know what I'm saying.  From what I've heard, any HW wallet with a secure element has the potential for the manufacturer to exfiltrate the private keys--if I'm wrong about that, please educate me.  And all of them have some kind of security element in them as a matter of course, too, right?

Also, given what I've said about my knowledge of the internal workings of these devices, nobody ought to follow my lead anywhere.  I've just found that for what little crypto I have I don't need a HW wallet to manage it, and I'm not comfortable with the level of uncertainty I have about them.

That being said, I'm a big believer in fully open source projects like SeedSigner and Krux.  Krux with BlueWallet or Sparrow is a fantastic combo.
Never heard of Krux, but those last two are SW wallets that can be used with HW wallets--am I right about that or not?  If so, and let's say you're using Sparrow with a Ledger, they can still steal/exfiltrate/whatever your private keys regardless, right?  If I've understood everything correctly, you don't have to be using Ledger Live in order for that to happen (again, correct me if I'm wrong, please).
357  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Fuck you ledger on: December 21, 2023, 07:41:52 PM
A yes/no button or "user opt out" means nothing. The ability exists for Trezor to surveil you just the same as Ledger do.
The ability exist to track you in your airgapped laptop, it has much wider attack surface, and you have confirmed spyware in your bios.
You are bringing more harm than good telling people that all hardware wallets are the same, when in reality you have no idea what you are talking about.
The crazy thing is that I know both of you have extensive knowledge of hardware wallets, and if you're both arguing about something so fundamental, can you imagine how confused people like me--who don't have the technical knowledge to evaluate these claim on their own--are, and how jaded some of us are now that it seems like most if not all HW wallets can theoretically extract a user's private keys?

Ledger's lies turned me off of all HW wallets for the time being, even if that might be an extreme response.  I'm waiting for the dust to settle and the experts here to either confirm or disprove these suspicions/fears/whatnot.  And I really wonder what the state of Ledger's business is at the moment.
358  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SATOCHIP Bitcointalk Limited Edition HW cards! on: December 19, 2023, 10:58:59 AM
I will see what we can do about that, but I guess we all first need blessing from Foxpup herself, and than you need to tell me how many cards you would like to order in total.
It's best to send me PM with more information about that, or I will forget about it during upcoming holiday season.
I will do so soon--and I'm curious as to whether any other members of the esteemed Cycling Club campaign are interested in this.  Truth be told, I don't even know how many there are.  At the gatherings it's so damn hard to see through the ballroom mask.

So you already own Satochip cards and you tested how they work?
You quoted me but it looks like you said it (just saying).  But yes, I bought a regular Satochip sometime last year I think along with the card reader, and I like it a lot.  The only thing I don't care for is that you need to use an old version of Electrum....and I'm not sure if there's a workaround for that or not.
359  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk mixer ban, Altcointalk is active in that scope. on: December 19, 2023, 10:23:01 AM
Now if this BitcoinTalk forum is not allowed to conduct any kind of signature campaign<snip>

Well now if all types of signatures are stopped from this forum<snip>
This discussion has been had many times before, but you probably aren't aware of that unless your account is an alt of an older member, which I'd put the odds at 50/50 of being the case, probably better.

Were there any mixer campaigns prior to Chipmixer?  I can't recall there being any, just ones for various exchanges, casinos and the like.  In any case, any forum can do what they like.  Theymos could probably even decide to allow discussion and promotion of mixers if he wanted to, but he doesn't.  That doesn't mean bitcointalk is going to suddenly become a ghost town, and I can tell you with near 100% certainty that just because altcointalk became active (I'm not sure I've even heard of them) and that mixer campaigns are going away that this forum's going down the tubes.  This place is the place to discuss the king of all kings when it comes to cryptocurrency.

Now then, how many of these BS topics by apparent newcomers are we going to get?

Bitcointalk however has a whole lot of usefulness, it is useful for learning even as you gain knowledge and impacts your idea as well, and it is very useful when it comes to learning also.
Hell yes.  Pretty much everything I've ever learned about crypto has come from bitcointalk.  Most members are indeed here to earn money, but there are a lot of people in campaigns or not in them who are willing to answer questions for anyone who asks and to start threads on hot topics concerning bitcoin.  It's a great place to get a feel of the bitcoin world and the people in it.
360  Economy / Economics / Re: My view of wealth and assets specially now on: December 19, 2023, 09:19:35 AM
that is why i think real estate is a good investment you can live in it and pass it down to your children and if they want, they can sell it at some point
Brother, I don't know what country you live in but in the US I rarely see houses or land passed down through generations anymore--and I think that's primarily because the government taxes its citizens to death, and if they're left with real estate when they die, it's actually a burden if any heirs have to pay all the taxes and whatever else comes with taking on a property.  My gut tells me only the wealthy own land for more than one or two generations anymore.

It's too bad, because what you said is true.  If shit hits the fan (like the power grid goes down or some other catastrophe), having a home and land of your own would be an extremely desirable thing.  Oh, and a nice cellar to store all the prepper stuff.
