341  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin - is the bottom in? on: February 22, 2023, 05:29:44 PM
Fundamentals say bottom should be in since 19 000 we reached in September. The FTX crash was an exceptional move like the 2019 covid crash.

Technicals say bottom is in. We had a golden cross which doesn't have to mean a rally but it usually means the worst is over. While it doesn't say what the price will be in the coming months it definitely says the tide is turning into a much less bearish.

Timeline also shows we're very close to a bull market if not already in it because we've been in the bear market since November of last year so 16 months in. It's more than enough to make all people who were in over their heads to sell and exit and those who are left are hardened holders and newbies who bought sub 20 000.

342  Economy / Speculation / Re: why Bitcoin Dumping ? on: February 22, 2023, 05:12:28 PM
It's not dump maybe we could call it market correction looking from the last ATH is still on buying position. Presently now is at +23k so I don't think we may see 17k this month again maybe from next month but which I can't say with any assurance concerning the price. It's very hard to detect what may come of next in the entire cryptocurrency market.

Calm down, bitcoin is not doing anything strange or unexpected.

A large part of every bitcoin move is stock traders rushing in by looking at the FED predictions, CPI and all other global factors. They bought some because the FED was looking to slow down their rate hikes and now Biden came  to Ukraine and promised help and Putin threatened with their continuation of nuclear tests, so the war is going to continue, nobody is looking to stop. That's bad for the markets because war means inflation. US stocks were falling for the last 2 days and bitcoin is reacting to this.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin [eventually] collapse? (scholar’s opinion) on: February 22, 2023, 04:40:11 PM
Cryptocurrency is not money - it is a unit of account in the decentralized infrastructure for dApps.

That's a pretty bold statement since money is a unit of exchange. It doesn't have to be globally accepted to be money. You can use an example of prison money where they use cigarettes and packs of instant noodles as money.

Bitcoin is money because it can be used to buy numerous things online. You can find a long list of stores that accept it. Over the years I used bitcoin to buy a lot of things. Not as many as I bought with fiat money but I'm trying to save my bitcoin and spend fiat.

Bitcoin isn't only for speculation. I'm a type of saver by nature and when there was no bitcoin I used to save foreign currencies in cash, jewelry, silver coins. Bitcoin is superior to all of these.
344  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Going to make mma predictions blog (for gamblers) on: February 22, 2023, 04:22:08 PM
This why my blog will be organize.

This simple  thread in bitcointtalks Is not going orginize  like my blog.

I agree that the thread isn't well organized and it's more about the latest fight that people are talking about and on another page it's something else like past fights that they share their bets on.

Making an organized list would be nice, but you could also do it here. Make a table and keep it updated with upcoming fights and your predictions. You don't have to start a separate site.
That said, there are sites like the one you're talking about. One of them is https://thebodylockmma.com/ufc/predictions/

If you want to make your own personal predictions, go a head.
345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What If There Is A Ban on: February 21, 2023, 09:54:40 PM
You can't ban freedom and bitcoin is freedom.

Many countries tried to ban bitcoin and it didn't work so they had to change their minds. One of such countries is Nigeria that saw an increase in bitcoin use when they banned it, so they passed a bill to unban it and make it legal.

All that can be done to ban bitcoin is an exchange ban, but that doesn't work when bitcoiners have a vote and bitcoin companies pay taxes.

As they say, don't fight the tide Wink

347  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Thought one of my online wallets was hacked and robbed on: February 21, 2023, 09:23:13 PM
In all probability it is something I have done, the only thing is I cannot work out what I have done wrong.

In 2021 I could not get access to my bitcoin in Blockchain so I  opened a spectrum account/wallet and tried to import my bitcoin to spectrum which never worked at the time and I tried to use my seed phrase to do this.

I am not sure what I have done wrong here and the only place that my seed phrase was exposed to was my spectrum wallet which at the time I thought I must have been doing wrong, it's only now two years later something seems to have happened, maybe my bitcoin is in spectrum?, all I know is that something happened in spectrum on Friday six times where nothing at all has happened in two years and that is the same night my bitcoin left blockchain.

I am probably wrong here as usual but my seed phrase being in my spectrum wallet I cannot see how that is a problem, from what I have heard it is safer, that is the only time ever I tried to use it.

It's possible the copy of that wallet was infected with malware.

It's possible you have other malware, unrelated to bitcoin and bitcoin wallet, like a keylogger trojan.

I've never used a "spectrum walet". Do you mean that DEX exchange https://spectrum.fi ?

I'll be honest with you. Online wallets and exchanges aren't a good way to hold coins. You should at the very least have an Electrum wallet for that and learning to use it would be worth every minute spent on it.

348  Economy / Gambling / Re: Diamond 5 Stake, account was hacked on: February 21, 2023, 09:03:10 PM
The phish occurred that morning of the 17th at 553am so they waited two days until there was a balance. Full responsibility for sure and I’m living w the consequences but the security was truly pathetic and I had been raising alarm bells to the owner for a month on deaf ears

If they had 2fa requirement + your password and email confirmation for withdrawals I feel like the security was good. The only 2 holes that I can see is that there's no email confirmation needed to disable 2fa. Once 2fa is enabled it shouldn't be disabled simply by logging in with a password. The only way to disable 2fa should be to either enter 2fa token or password + email link.
The second hole is tipping amount. It shouldn't be possible to tip 50 thousand just like that. The amounts should be lower. Nobody in their right mind is going to tip someone 50 000.

You also made a huge mistake clicking suspicious links and not checking your account at that point. If you were clicking around and entering your password in every single popup window, withdraw the money to keep the account at minimum or change your password. You had 2 days to fix your mistake.

349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why Do Gamblers Do This? on: February 21, 2023, 08:50:33 PM
That’s just how people work… They do something so dumb, like gamble away their savings and have nothing to show for it but a sad story. So they use what they got in exchange for their savings, a story, to tell others. Maybe a part of them think someone will take pity on them and give them some money, or maybe they think the tale of their gambling risks will earn them respect. Who knows…

Exactly. Plain and simple.

Op is asking why they wait until they're in problems. For the same reason why people drive drunk, then get into an accident and all hell breaks lose. They have to pay for the damages, get a court sentence, pay fines, have their license suspended, damage the car and probably lose it... Everything because of a simple mistake that could be avoided. We are just people, we make mistakes., If we all could think a few steps ahead we'd all be rich and healthy.
350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is your profit taking strategy? on: February 20, 2023, 09:24:30 PM
I can tell you what my strategy used to be.

Once I realized most altcoins were going to only cost me money, I turned to bitcoin. I bought some and caught the 2017 rally. It went so fast that I didn't even think about withdrawing at 2x, I let it roll. At 10x I withdrew my first investment and let the rest grow. At 12x I withdrew 10% and another 10% at 15x. I held the rest of my bitcoin all the way down from 20 to 3000 and I still have it.

I later spent some of that sold 20% to buy ETH when it crashed to $300. I also bought ADA in 2019. In 2022 I didn't touch my bitcoin at all, I sold only some of the coins saved up from signature campaigns and half om my ETH. That gave me enough money to be set for years without being forced to sell my bitcoin investment.

I plan to maybe sell some bitcoin when it breaks 100 thousand dollars and another part at 200 thousand. I have enough money and enough time now to be slow and steady with my bitcoin.
351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I've invested around 450 dollars into bitcoin and I am 16 years old on: February 20, 2023, 09:04:10 PM
$450 is a very small investment these days. By some very optimistic scenarios Bitcoin will reach ~$200,000 during the next cycle, so a ~x10 increase from the current price level. Will having $4,500 instead of $450 radically chance your life? Don't think so. If you bought 1 Bitcoin for $450 seven years ago, and held till now, that could have been life-changing. This is not to make you feel any regrets, but to illustrate that the market is no longer as fast growing as it used to be.

A 16 year old doesn't have to think of this cycle as his goal. Being so young he's got enough time to look at 2028/9 target. That's also what I'm waiting for since that's probably going to coincide with my retirement goals. I'd like to retire in my 40s and start spending some money, so this bull market isn't what I'm waiting for. I could easily wait if waiting meant 200 000 USD bitcoin by 2030.

I believe you OP, you don't have to prove anything. I have more BTC than you and I don't feel like proving it. If people don't believe me, even better. They won't suspect anything Cheesy

Keep holding and with bitcoin you'll always have some backup money to fall back to when things go bad. Save it.
352  Economy / Speculation / Re: If history repeats itself: 2023 vs 2019 on: February 20, 2023, 08:45:57 PM
Many people talk about a similar fractal in 2019 and 2023, but I don't think it's quite correct to compare these charts because at that time there was no global crisis, not even a Covid yet, so the whole world economy, including the stock markets, were operating very differently than now.
People always say that this time is going to be different. I heard it and read about it multiple times and you can do it too, just look for some bear market posts from 2011, 2014, 2018 and so on.
You seem to still fall for it.

In 2014 it was to be different because never before had the biggest exchange go bankrupt. Also in 2014 China banned bitcoin and closed down all exchanges. Bitcoin was supposed to go to 0.

In 2018 it was supposed to be different because bitcoin pumped so much that people expected it to be the last bull market especially with the "new king" narrative from BCH shills. Bitcoin fees got so high that people had to pay more than $100 to push transactions. It was supposed to be the end with bitcoin going to $1000.

Then we had a covid crash and bitcoin lost 70% of its market price almost instantly when we were supposed to be out of bear market already with more than 7 months in 8-10 thousand range.

You think that this time is different because your field of view is too narrow. Daily or weekly price action means nothing for a volatile asset like bitcoin. Look at years. Nothing has changed when it comes to halving bull markets whether we get this small rally like in 2019 or not.
353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Give it a break. on: February 20, 2023, 08:07:32 PM
Believing that it's not my week and there's no need trying more as I will only end up break my bank for nothing at the end.
I do this for a long time now and it works for me by saving me from incurring wasteful losses and also having/saving me some money  for the next week to come.

There's no my week, your week, or somebody else's. Your loss doesn't mean there's some supernatural power stopping you from winning and that power will forget about you when you decide to take a day off. This is a very superstitious way of thinking.

Taking a break is good for your mental health. It gives you time to think, look at things from a different angle. This doesn't mean another game after you come back won't be a loss.

I think there's no connection with winning and losing streaks and breaks you take in gambling. It's like you're trying to break the streak by stopping and coming back later.
354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is currently the best crypto to invest in? on: February 20, 2023, 07:50:33 PM
Bitcoin is the best crypto for newbies,

Bitcoin is the best crypto, period. Show me a cryptocurrency that is better than bitcoin, I'm really curious what you can come up with.
Quote
altcoins are not as safe as Bitcoin but altcoins have the potential to 30x or even 100x your money,
They also have the potential to zero your investment, which is something bitcoin will not do.

Altcoin won't go 30x without bitcoin leading the way. If bitcoin falls they'll fall, but it doesn't mean they won't fall if bitcoin goes up.
355  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it true that 80% of the world's wealth in the hands of 20%? on: February 19, 2023, 09:12:39 PM
What governments can do to make it more equitable?

It's the governments that are in these 20%. Politicians are rich and often abuse power to gain more wealth. They won't do anything about the problem because they're a part of it. Without their laws the disparity wouldn't be so great in the first place.

It works like this: Rich people pay politicians directly or pay lobbyists to establish laws that favor them and give them more ways to make money. They become even richer than before and have even more money for bribes. Most of them are untouchable like those pharma companies that charge $2 million for a drug that cures SMA.
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The bolt driver experience: promoting bitcoin in my business on: February 19, 2023, 08:41:44 PM
Nice one OP, this is a good way to promote Bitcoin even if no customers are paying in Bitcoin, but I do have some doubts about this business, to send Bitcoin from a wallet to another costs me 0.40$ and that's more than enough for moving from one locality to another using a cab or taxi, so customers that will find this a worthy trial are those going a long distance, if I could remember, Bolt drivers don't travel long distance, they always do cabbing within a city or two,  F*ck it, this is still a good promotion for Bitcoin so keep doing you.

Unfortunately the fee is something global just like bitcoin and it doesn't take into account that $0.5 can be worth something.

In developed countries you can't buy anything for that much. In Germany 1 EUR, which is more than twice the fee, won't even make the driver turn his meter on. A cheapest coffee costs you more than 1 EUR and 0.4 EUR is the price of a salad dressing at McDonalds.

If you can get somewhere for $0.4 or buy a meal, that's great for you, but it's not a problem of bitcoin, just your country is cheap compared to the rest of the world.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your reasons for holding bitcoins? on: February 19, 2023, 08:21:29 PM
To me bitcoin is there to gives you money when you're satisfied to take the money or take your if can't wait when is dropping.

To you, but to me it's completely different. I'd also like to note that bitcoin is money. Why should I exchange one form of money into another if I'm not ready to spend it?

Quote
Whether you hold or not what will happen in bitcoin will still happens, is good to hold but too long hell no, because am not the future, future is expectations real life is in the present.
How do you know what is too long? For people who sold at 2017 high of 20 000 holding to another high was too long but not for me. I was ready to wait much longer and I'm still ready to wait more. If you're not, don't hold it. I see no problem in that.

358  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which BTC/mining related stock seems most promising going forward? on: February 19, 2023, 07:55:16 PM
These stocks are much more manipulated than bitcoin. You risk your money by investing in them no less than you would risk it by gambling.

Canaan stock was at about $36 ATH and crashed to 18 in less than 2 weeks. Then it kept crashing and ignored Bitcoin's highs in October and November of 2021. If you bought that mining stock instead of bitcoin in 2021 you did much worse than you would if you chose bitcoin. The stock reached its lows in December last year of just $2.

Riot went from $10 In August of last year to $3 in December. Bitcoin to go this low would have to reach $3000.

Why add additional risk to your investment when you can clearly see these stocks don't even follow bitcoin's highs, but crash much harder every time bitcoin does?

359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you manage risk in crypto currency on: February 18, 2023, 09:36:00 PM
It's impossible to calculate because the price is heavily manipulated. You'd also have to take into account the possibility of a black swan event like covid or FTX.

I don't manage risk because I don't trade and I advise you to do the same. I invest and acknowledge that it can take another 5 years before there's any profit. I'm ready to wait up to 10 years, but I'm sure bitcoin will get me in a much better financial situation than holding my money in the bank with 10% inflation would.
360  Other / Off-topic / Re: Enjoy your money you work hard for. on: February 18, 2023, 02:59:42 PM
Does that mean he had no family? No wife and children to live his bitcoin to? That's a waste.

I wonder how much of the total supply is really gone forever. Some researchers say that 3-4 million, but since we are losing bitcoiners to diseases and accidents every day, that number could be much bigger. This story is for me something more than just a reminder to take care of my health, but also a reminder that our wealth means nothing if we don't have anyone to share it with and take over when we're gone.
