361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Long time holding, is it a smart thing to do? on: June 19, 2018, 01:35:06 PM
Long time holding is a smart thing to do as far as crypto currency is concern. I have realize that, investors try to play smart in the crypto business in that, they begin to dump most tokens to cause a decline in token prices. This will in turn pave way for them to buy more tokens in other for them to hold for long and sell at higher prices when token values shoot up. In spite of this, is long term holding a smart thing to do as a bounty hunter and why?

Here is my two cents. Bounty tokens are earned relatively easily. For a signature campaign participant, for example, you are only asked to make 10-15 constructive posts weekly. For a social media campaign participant, on the other hand, the tasks only involve tweeting, retweeting, liking, etc. Those are very easy tasks. What I mean to say is that you are only risking a little if you choose to hodl your bounty tokens long term. And the reward if ever they multiply their values is really a huge wealth.

However, there are tokens that only have value after the completion of the ICO. There are some tokens that die eventually after the bounty hunters and investors dump all their tokens. When tokens are dumped, the price declines or possibly become zero. So there’s the risk of wasting your time and effort and missing out on the opportunity of getting some profit.
362  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there any fast and easy money here in cryptocurrency? on: June 19, 2018, 12:55:29 PM
There’s no fast and easy money anywhere except in winning the lottery. People often make the mistake that getting into crypto would make you instantly rich. It may be true that there have been many hodlers who were able to gain huge profit or became rich but bear in mind that it took years before it was actually realized. There’s really no easy money anywhere — not in crypto, not in anywhere else.
363  Economy / Economics / Re: What i believe will come on: June 18, 2018, 01:08:10 PM
what if the bank adopts cryptocurrency as its currency?
whether the bank will also disappear?
I think they also have some strategies to stay competitive in finding customers, even they can adopt cryptocurrency as their official currency anytime
I disagree with banks adopting cryptocurrency. If you haven't noticed, banks are the one attacking bitcoin in whichever way they can. And most Central Banks today are totally opposing bitcoin and crypto so I don't think that they will have a sudden change of heart and will embrace crypto. Of course they have strategies, but I'm sure that strategies is not effective anymore because they know that people are slowly moving to crypto, thus they are attacking and trying to eliminate the competition because crypto has already taking a lion share of their potential billion dollars profit. So there's no love lost between banks and crypto.

I don’t think that banks consider crypto as competition. They’re just alarmed by the huge sum of money going in crypto and exchanges when it should be going to them. The banking world may be attacking crypto because for them, crypto is something that is risky and dangerous since it is foreign to them. A huge majority of the public still favor banks over the decentralization of crypto because of the safety and security so banks need not worry about losing their consumers — for now.
364  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: “Asset with Measurable Value”: South Korea Supreme Court Recognizes Crypto on: June 18, 2018, 12:27:26 PM
This contradicts the idea of the emergence of cryptocurrencies and ICO. I am not against the existence of certain rules in the market, but if the government regulates the turnover then I do not need such a currency. We do not know but perhaps the current decline in demand and prices due to the fact that people do not believe in the freedom that bitcoin promised.

That then makes it difficult. What then is a solution or way forward? Do we now allow innocent people to keep losing their money?

Regulation that is talked about is not total or in all spheres of cryptocurrency but maybe modalities on how icos are going to run or what exchanges are to do to better secure investments in their custody.

You and I know that fraud is bedevilling the system.

People need to stop thinking that regulation is TOTALLY bad. It may put a limit to your actions but it will benefit not only the citizens and potential victims of scams but also the active users of crypto. Having regulations is better than having a total ban or declaration of illegality of crypto in your country. This may actually encourage investors because regulations make it safer and secure.
365  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Crypto Infographics on: June 18, 2018, 12:18:21 PM
It would be great if you’re infographics were dissiminated to the public or through social media. I think it would be a great way to spread information about crypto, especially among today’s generation. Infographics are very eye catching and since today’s generation are more visual and have little patience to read, the use of infographics is a great way to communicate to the young ones. I commend OP on his great effort and contribution to the crypto community.
366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: A large part of the bounty Scam on: June 18, 2018, 11:48:42 AM
There is one general assumption that can help you to avoid getting scammed. First of all it worth to stay skeptical when assessing ICO.  If an ICO appears to be too good to be true, it probably is. Besides the general points, there are some hints that can help to avoid scam I wont to share with you.
1.ICOs generally provide potential investors with a detailed list of what they have achieved in the development of the project, as well as what they plan to achieve. Also, it is essential for the roadmap to be realistic. If the ICO that you’re assessing hasn’t yet developed a working platform prototype or any code at all, then it’s highly likely that it is an exit scam.
2. Also, the project is a scam with great possibility if it has no White Paper, White Papers is bad or Plagiarized White Papers
3. ICOs generally propose open-source solutions that make it possible to assess their code via a repository link like GitHub. If the ICO links are empty or don’t provide a link at all, then it’s more than likely is a scam.

Great enumeration on some red flags. Some people just like to blame others and forget to admit that they have played a part. As a participant of a bounty, it is also your duty and responsibility to verify the ICO you are joining. Sadly, many bounty hunters just blindly join bounty campaigns upon the promise of getting paid. If you’re an investor, you should be diligent enough to research because you’re money is at risk.
367  Economy / Economics / Re: You're not wealthy yet, so you're not allowed to be wealthy on: June 18, 2018, 09:12:39 AM
It’s sort of like how you’re not qualified enough to borrow from a bank when you can’t prove that you’re capable enough to return the money or have any collateral. This makes it difficult for people who don’t have good financial backgrounds from borrowing money. Of course, an ICO would want to get “accredited” investors so that there’s an assurance that these people really do have money. It’s unfair and discriminatory but this how the world works and people basicaly judge and measure you by your wealth.
368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What affects your decision to take part in a Bounty Campaign? on: June 18, 2018, 05:46:05 AM
Look to the team first of all and for the problem what they gonna decide. Lokk to the bounty manager who carry out but not all the time it's work. They need to have good website and good revious on popular platforms.

Also be aware of scams from other participants, recently I just discovered someone made a ''complaint'' using my name and profile link to change my ethereum address, thankfully I checked it and realized that it was changed. Everyone should always check their address because someone could just impersonate you and try to change it. In this case it was because the campaign allowed people to submit complaints via google forms.

It’s my first time to hear about a scam such as that. People can become very creative these days. It’s amazing how they come up with different ways to scam people. Managers should also be aware about these and should be more strict with changing wallet addresses. It’s usually SPO to require the participants to have a signed message whenever they want to change their wallet in order to avoid scams such as these.
369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Real-Life Professional Gambler will help you recover your losses on: June 17, 2018, 12:42:46 PM
we can see how he plays and follows his steps. but back again, it all depends on our luck.

Well of course, don't think that his shoes will fit yours. And don't be easily deceive by your belief that it will happen to you because it might not work the way you wanted to. I know we think to ourselves that if somebody can do it then we can do it also but this will be a case to case basis. Money is involve here and with just one wrong move everything can turn to nothing.
Right. There is no such assurance to win in gambling as there is no professional man in gambling.Everything happens depends on luck or chances.Maybe if you're just lucky that day then you could win series of games but i don't think that it will also happen in the next days because for sure the owner of that gambling site will also do some actions of how they can get profits.
The gambling house would definitely do something to prevent someone winning big consecutively simply because it is their own loss. Just like the other forum members, I have also watched the movie about gambling entitled 21 which feature the use of Mathematics, Statistics and Probability in winning any gambling game. It really is a cool movie because it shows how gambling games can be beaten with the right math skills but I also doubt if that could happen in real life.

The owners or the people that manages the casinos (offline and online) smiles when there are so many people actively gambling but hates it when a person win big in any of their games. I also doubt if there could really be professional gamblers, if they have strategies in winning a game I think sharing is not an option.

Math skills can actually allow you to measure the probability of winning or losing in a gambling game but it won’t help you win or figure out patterns. Since gambling games are basically random, no one can be a “professional” in guessing the possible outcomes in roulette or other games unless you rig it. If there were “professionals” to offer such a service, it may be likely that it is a scam which attempts to fool those desperate enough to win back their losses. It’s no guarantee that anyone can be an expert in gambling, no matter how long or how many times they’ve already played.
370  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why Ban Cryptocurrency with Zero Research or Consultation? on: June 16, 2018, 03:13:05 PM
Central banks are agents and mouth piece of the government, they're simply one and same.

That may be true in some cases, but India is not a dictatorship, and I prefer we give them the benefit of the doubt. Different branches are meant to function independently, which is how their own Supreme Court is questioning the central bank's move in the first place. If they were all working in unison to push out crypto, it would be far simpler for them to simply tune out the noise.

Not only that, but there should be some checks and balances of power. Even while it’s the job of the central bank to make decisions of this matter and nature, it should also be the government’s discretion. Matters like this should not be decided without proper research whether it be crypto related or not. They must have wanted to be in the “safe” side and did not want to deal with cryptos at all so resorted to simply dismissing it.
371  Economy / Economics / Re: Why we must study Economics at University? on: June 16, 2018, 02:31:06 PM
The study of economics has practical applications in life in more ways than one. Since it’s the study of allocating resources, it allows one to learn how to budget - one practical life lesson which many seem to be lacking. Studying economics allows one to understand how the market works with demand and supply which would be very helpful if you are into business or finance. It’s a social science which everyone must learn because of the practicality it implies.
372  Other / Off-topic / Re: bitcointalk Bounty millionaires. do they exist? on: June 15, 2018, 11:08:34 AM
It’s possible if you have a high rank and multiple accounts but I don’t think they exist, otherwise it would be very hard to achieve and maintain. For those who earned btc from bounties in the past and chose to hold then they could be millionares by now. The rates were also different before so the amount of btc they were earning must have been plentier. There are those who join ICO bounties and earn handsomely from the tokens especially when the price shoot up but I’m not sure if there are any millionares from those kind of campigns.
373  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you spend less bitcoin/alts now? on: June 14, 2018, 04:09:39 PM
As compared to the price last 2017, it makes you feel like a loss when you sell at the current period or price since it’s lower by more than 60% but in reality it’s not a complete loss. It just feels like one since you know that it has the potential to have a higher price, and it would be better if we hold it first and wait for the wrong time. Knowing that btc has the potential to shoot to the moon, it always feels wrong to spend it at all since it’s an opportunity cost.

375  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal nature of cryptocurrency on: June 13, 2018, 05:46:10 AM
Great study. Not many have delved into the topic of cryptocurrencies in the academe because it’s still hardly talked about. However, you may find it hard to find scholarly articles and sources to support your study. I siggest that you look into how different countries have various legal stands towards cryptocurrency. Some have created a ban, legalized it or is neutral towards it. Such as the Philippines where it’s neither legalized nor banned but has recognized crypto to have legal tender.
376  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [12-06-2018] Apple Bans Cryptocurrency Mining on iPhone on: June 13, 2018, 04:13:06 AM
I'm not someone that advocates for mining on every single device you can get your hands on, but it would seem pretty disgusting for Apple for take a "Stand" against cryptocurrencies for seemingly no reason. If anything, mining on their phones could potentially increase sales, or spike the price of older models back up. It seemingly provides more value to their products if you allow people the freedom to use it as they please. They shouldn't limit the usage of the hardware they're providing.

I am well aware that mining on an iPhone is beyond worthless, but people are doing it significantly enough for Apple to do something like so. That's where I'm drawing my conclusions from.

Apple must have wanted to be on the safe side for now so they didn't want to have anything to do or contribute to crypto. The publicity of crypto is dubious and being involved with it may either bring good or bad publicity. With a bunch of news saying that people have been losing money from bitcoin/crypto, this may give others the wrong idea. It's practically useless anyway since mining through iPhones may not do much but it's more of Apple making a stand.
377  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-06] South Africans Instructed to Pay Tax on Bitcoin on: June 10, 2018, 06:55:29 AM
In my country, cryptocurrencies, and bitcoin usage are allowed and we have Bitcoin ATMs here...and even if we convert Bitcoins to fiat, however big it would be the government don't tax it... more so to retired individuals.
So let's say you buy Bitcoin at $7000 to later on sell it for fiat at $10,000, you don't have to pay one single penny in tax? I highly doubt that.

I can spend my Bitcoins in order to get rid of my tax liabilities (as long as it is before every first of January), and it's all legal, but that doesn't apply to anything related to fiat. As soon as you start dealing with fiat, you are subject to a whole variety of regulations that only work out in your disadvantage. I find it hard to believe that there is a government not taxing Bitcoin in that way, especially when you sell for a higher price.

You have to report ALL income to the tax man!
You heard that peeps, feed the elite!

Yes, I didn't pay a single cent tax. Just this 1st week I withdraw from my coins.ph* wallet a small amount of BTC worth 120,787.66 Php (2,304.23USD) they just charge me fees but not tax.

*Coins.ph is a mobile wallet where Filipinos make online payments, load beep™ cards, and buy bitcoin. Available on web, Android, and iOS.

~snip~

You have to report ALL income to the tax man!

Maybe in your country but not here in the Philippines and other countries as well, as there are many countries that don't tax Bitcoin and other cryptos and you can simply google it.

Yes, it may be true that the Philippines do not tax Bitcoin nor do they have any regulation over it but that differs from income tax.what you have cited as an example is a simple transaction of sale - from BTC to PHP and the fees go to the service provider (coins.ph).  See, in income tax you would have to declare it no matter what form of currency or legal tender you earn from. May it be in the form of fiat or bitcoins, you would have to declare it and there will be a corresponding tax for that.

South Africa may not have explicit regulations yet on bitcoin but that does not exempt its citizens from having to pay their taxes. The same should go with other countries.
378  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why gambling is portrayed negatively almost everywhere? on: June 06, 2018, 04:00:54 PM
why gambling is perceived as negative in society and is considered a pervert behavior of society because of gambling. The victory resulting from gambling will not last long it will result in the destruction of individual characters and will ruin their lives, many ugly things are generated from gambles such as poverty, conflict, addiction, and many more.

There are too many bad stories about the ultimate outcome of gambling addiction that has become a hereditary story. Whatever we do as long as we jump into the world of gambling, it will certainly be regarded as something that is not good and we must be aware of such facts. Maintaining the confidentiality of our habits from those closest to us may preserve the ill effects of gambling that we can receive from the public.

These bad stories come from those who lost their money and has affected their lifes badly like losing their properties and other assets. This has ruined other people’s lives because it sometimes come to a point where people go bankrupt and lose their homes because of gambling. It has long been an assumption that gambling is bad because of the risk of losing lots of money, so it cannot be avoided.
379  Economy / Speculation / Re: Patience is all we need on: June 06, 2018, 02:08:28 AM
Sadly, many fail to have this virture nor recognize the importance of this. It has cost the loss of many because there are those who lack this virtue. It has made people irrational or impulsive in making decisions when they do not have enough patience. Most long term holders are able to gain huge profit because they had the patience to hold and choose not to sell their coins immediately
