361  Economy / Service Discussion / GIGAOMs news article on the MtGox filing for bankruptcy. on: February 28, 2014, 04:32:49 PM
gigaom.com/2014/02/28/game-over-for-mtgox-bitcoin-exchange-has-filed-for-bankruptcy-protection-reports-say/

In the video at the bottom of the report it doesn't look like Mark is really hurting. He's kind of got the shady look going on.

362  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 28, 2014, 10:57:19 AM
Con Kolivas <kernel@kolivas.org> also develops firmware for the Avy, so I am surprised he hasn't come out with an update. But I have alerted him to this post so hopefully he comes out with something soon; I find his updates are better than YiFU's. Smiley
My avalon fell below profitable mining so it's gone. Hence I'm not doing any more firmware.
Actually I still have all my automated scripts for building it lying around, so if you're brave, here is firmware that is done completely blindly and totally untested for 55 and 110nm avalons with cgminer 4.0.1

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/avalon/20140228/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

As long as there are still some coins to be made I am going to keep running my Avalon's. Smiley

Thanks for the firmware.
363  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 27, 2014, 08:55:20 PM
i have tried running 16 and 24
 and still i get

[match_work_count1] => 3878
   [match_work_count2] => 3755
   [match_work_count3] => 3849
   [match_work_count4] => 3763
   [match_work_count5] => 3786
   [match_work_count6] => 3785
   [match_work_count7] => 3799
   [match_work_count8] => 3717
   [match_work_count9] => 3949
   [match_work_count10] => 3846
   [match_work_count11] => 3886
   [match_work_count12] => 3762
   [match_work_count13] => 3858
   [match_work_count14] => 3822
   [match_work_count15] => 3734
   [match_work_count16] => 0

but even missing that 1 i am getting pretty good speed with it

So the only thing to do is check the cables inside, and see if the last sub board is burnt in anyway.

364  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: DONT LET MARK KARPÈLES LEAVE THE COUNTRY! on: February 27, 2014, 12:39:59 PM
I think everybody agrees that there is a high probability that Mark Karpèles will leave Japan to hide somewhere from law enforcement, his creditors or worse, possibly with 700k BTC in his wallet. Everybody that lost money in MtGox and the community as a whole should try to prevent that from happening. I lost myself a decent amount of money in there and at least I want answers from him and his associates in a future trial. For that, Mark's location must be known to local authorities and his departure from Japan prevented.

What ways to contact Japanese authorities are there?
Pls provide email, tel. numbers to contact them immediately

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department General Consultation Center by telephone (in English)

Contact : 81-3-3503-8484
Hours :  Mon-Fri 8:30-17:15
Japan standard time is 9 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.
(UTC +09:00)

What further steps must be taken in order to convince authorities to flag his passport, issue an arrest warrant, etc.?

Im not calling for a witch hunt here! Mark as well as anyone enjoys the right to remain innocent until proven guilty. But in order to determine that, we have to make sure that all prerequisits are taken to proof his innocence, in other words: to further a trial to get some answers.

It's not just everyone who lost money, why do you think the US Government is after Mark and MtGox? If you remember back a month or so ago the US Government took a billion dollars out of healthcare and put it into Bitcoin. I suspect the US Government bought Bitcoin's on MtGox with some of that money and they too are trapped. Either that or the Federal Reserve bought coins at MtGox, some how the subpoena from NY has ties to either the Feds or the US Government otherwise they wouldn't have any interest in MtGox period.

So I doubt Mark will be able to leave Japan. The second problem I have is with the amount of Bitcoin's they alleged where stolen, 740k, that's a lot of coins and even if you account for when MtGox opened its doors to Bitcoin that would amount to 490~500 coins being stolen a day. Now there either they are lying about the number or someone has been cooking their books. Likely its been Mark who's been cooking the books while he embezzled the money lining his pockets with it.

Either way Bitcoin moves on, it's still moving, the other exchanges have been picking up the slack and once this whole thing blows over we'll start to see Bitcoin's price rise up again. Those of you have decided to run for cover and sell off your Bitcoin's will only kick yourself in the ass later. Smiley

365  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: February 27, 2014, 11:26:32 AM
Well i wrote this update with the help of XiangFu

the update is that you are now able to run CGminer 4.0.0 which before this update the avalon mini was running 3.9.0

I am seeing about a 5ghs improvement ( normal speed was 47ghs - 49ghs before update due to a bad chip or miner since only 15 of the 16 chips/miners  work )

if someone can show or tell me how i can post a pic i will post the pic up to prove new speeds

Are you running 24 or 16 miner count? If you set the miner to 24 miner count all 16 miners should work without a hitch unless you have managed to fry a sub board. Also the miner is supposed to be running at 350Mhz by default which would put it around 55-59GH/s. At 400Mhz my miner does closer to 62GH/s but I don't recommend you running at 400Mhz unless you plan to put your miner into a deep freezer. Smiley

Con Kolivas <kernel@kolivas.org> also develops firmware for the Avy, so I am surprised he hasn't come out with an update. But I have alerted him to this post so hopefully he comes out with something soon; I find his updates are better than YiFU's. Smiley

366  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox is bankrupt, and Mark Karpeles is a thief! on: February 26, 2014, 11:36:46 PM
Maybe not thief, just incompetent. No proof, that it was he who stole bitcoins.
It's really hard to say which scenario is more believable.

It's already been reported that Mark managed to embezzled millions out of MtGox. Now you have the US Government going after MtGox along with Toyko. I wouldn't be surprised if next we read about Mark being added to Interpol's wanted list.

Please show us where thats been reported.

He hasnt run as far as anyones aware so i dont see why he would need to be added to Interpols most wanted list.  Wouldnt it just be easier to send the local police to his home or office?

What office? MtGox office doesn't exist anymore and for we know Mark could emailing the media from some beach in Timbuktu.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On this day last year... on: February 26, 2014, 07:12:46 PM
Time flies quickly in BITCOIN-LAND.

Next year we will be in the $3000 to $7000 range saying the same thing.

This is very true. I am just a little surprised at the shriekers out there. I could tell a few months into Bitcoining that most of the exchanges don't take Bitcoin seriously enough to protect the buyers and sellers. Let's hope this MtGox is a wake up call to the remaining exchanges, this is no game!

It is less than 1k EUR (SEPA) and was requested on Jan 9th. I had no hope since the website closed yesterday. Seems they still working? I have more cash in their account though.

This probably plays a part in the events starting to unfold.

MtGox is in deep shit now! Smiley

373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [GUIDE] Delete your 0/unconfirmed transactions in 30 seconds on: February 26, 2014, 01:51:48 AM
Ultimate way to delete your forever unconfirmed transactions

  • Backup your wallet just in case
  • Download Pywallet
  • Run './pywallet.py --web'
  • Go to http://localhost:8989 in your browser
  • Fill the Delete form like this:

    • Wallet Directory: /your/wallet/directory
    • Wallet Filename: yourwalletfilename
    • Key: all
    • Type: leave 'Transaction'

  • Click the Delete button
  • Run 'bitcoin -rescan'
  • Done, no more unconfirmed tx's

How do i get this to run?

I have P2Pool running on my openSUSE so I know python 2.7 is installed and running but when I try to run the pywallet.py --web and use sudo before it it tells me pywallet.py : command not found, any ideas?

Thanks,

Max Keiser tweeted today:

What's happening to MtGox would have happened to JPM, GS, C, HSBC, RBS, BRK, in 2008 if we had free markets.
This is Bitcoin's finest hour.

376  Economy / Service Discussion / IBT - Bitcoin Exchange MtGox Releases Statement, All Transactions Halted ... on: February 26, 2014, 12:39:50 AM
I think instead of people just sitting around and waiting for MtGox to do something they should go after them tooth and nail because this kind of thing that MtGox is doing isn’t new, the longer people wait the longer MtGox will slip away in the shadows.

377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 25, 2014, 11:09:36 PM
This MT.GOX blow up will have ramifications for years in this industry and we'll never see those nice high values anymore for a long time. BTC has been slowly dropping day by day and continues to do so. There's nothing that is going to make it go back up either. So all you bitcoin rich people out there, how's it feel to have huge amounts of less money? I'm waiting for the price to drop to $100. Then maybe I'll buy some more.

Your too funny. Granted the price of bitcoin is slipping a bit with or without the help of MtGox eventually it will climb back up to $1000 mark. And to be honest this isn't just about Bitcoin, but it also involves all the other crypto currencies. What sets them apart from Bitcoin is they haven't had to go through the growing pains that Bitcoin has since 2009, so they won't last period, while Bitcoin who has made it this far and continues to move forwards will continue.

I agree that Knc is in a bit of a pickle with the hashing rates going through the roof. In the end they will have either refund the money they still have from people who have ordered the Neptune, like myself, or delay the release until they have something that has a good ROI. Maybe that would be a Neptune 2? Smiley

But whatever you do, don't panic because the sky isn't really falling!! Smiley

378  Other / Archival / Re: [NEW] Avalon 28nm Spec 1Th/s Box to 1.9Th/s ? [Ships March] on: February 25, 2014, 10:52:10 PM
Well for starters this is not an Avalon. It's a clone a best, but even Avalon (Avalon-ASIC.com) at best will have a 40nm chip (which comes out next month). It's also huge in size!
379  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many BTC's did you have stored at MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 10:37:58 PM
4.4plus 1000usd

I would never count the bitcoins worth today, if you have 4.4BTC trapped inside Gox right now they are technically worth the price they were before Gox halted trading the first time, which was about $1000 USD per coin. If people who had hundreds in cold storage at Gox sued Gox they would claim their worth at the higher price and not what the market says they are worth today.

No thats not how justice works idiot.

It is if you sold them at $1000 for tax purposes. You'd be totally screwed by IRS then. But of course all the records were lost too so that might be a way out for some.

Let me tell you something about the IRS. It's unconstitutional to be paying income tax in the United States of America, back when the income tax bill was pasted in congress only a handful of the states were there to sign it, since not all the states signed the bill it unconstitutional for the IRS to demand you pay them tax. Secondly the Supreme Court of the USA has already stated very clearly that only people who stand to gain a profit from someone else trade and or experience should they be  taxed, but those who are providing their skills for cash should not be paying tax at all. Lastly most the states don't even have it written in their own laws that you are required to pay income tax. The movie America Freedom to Fascism also points this out.

Besides that I don't live in the USA (thank god) so I don't have to worry about the IRS. Smiley

Everyone will just have to face the facts that MtGox has successfully lined their pockets with your Bitcoins and gotten away with it, and now with gox.com they are going to do it a second time.
