https://www.coindesk.com/ripple-put-defense-uk-parliament-blockchain-hearing/

some people being nasty about ripple in a british parliament committee today. it looks like a pretty pathetic lineup of non entities they have. the main hatemonger is some guy formerly from the R3 consortium which i didn't even realise was a thing any more.
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 02, 2018, 07:33:13 PM
But the only thing that places Bitcoin Segwit in the Bitcoin position is it is the chain with the most accumulated proof of work. When Bitcoin Cash surpasses Bitcoin Segwit in that measure, then Bitcoin Segwit will cease being Bitcoin, and Bitcoin Cash will become Bitcoin. Just as satoshi designed.

Sure, it is arguable whether that event should ever come to pass. But them's the breaks.

BCH had far more proof of work for quite some time because of the broken difficulty mechanism. i didn't see a mass defection then or a zombie-like pivot when all the users realised there was more work.

most people don't understand that and certainly don't care about it.

bitcoin is the bitcoin that people decide it is. it doesn't matter about technical stats on whatever chain.

there are now millions of people who didn't get this for free. that's a whole lot more convincing that'll need to be done and it can't be done.

it looks like BCH has an increasingly interesting future.

as bitcoin? nope.
363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: May 02, 2018, 09:31:33 AM

This is worth $105,000.  Everybody email Mcafee at weekonecoin@gmail.com

It takes 1 minute so get off your asses and DO IT!!!  Smiley

he's done a great job to convince anyone or anything that a few seconds of tapping is 'worth' more than several annual salaries. i'd love to know how many times he's been fully paid and it certainly won't be in whatever shitcoin he's told to shout about.

still, it can't do any harm for nothing but you can bet this will be botted to death.
364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XBY] XtraBYtes Speculation on: May 01, 2018, 07:14:49 PM
this has to be the most worthless thread on the entire forum and that is truly, truly saying something. the mods need to put this out of its misery. it brings nothing to the table. this coin will do whatever it's gonna do regardless.
365  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: May 01, 2018, 01:05:31 PM
TheQuin: ah missed the news about lowering 10k limit while i was abroad.

..so thats even worse than i thought :/ lowering min. to 1k + adding shitload of shitcoins; every professional's dream coming true. history in the making. maybe we'll be like cryptopia, but for professional traders 'on paper'.

I still like the platform though  Smiley

the 10k thing was stupid and it was probably a reaction to getting swamped by new users. now all the new users have fallen off it's back to milking as much as they can by other means. the elitism stops rapidly when there's no one there to look down on.

i wouldn't take it as an ominous sign. seems like a standard money hungry one to me.
366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [BTC FORK] Bitcoin Interest - Decentralized Savings Community - Join Now on: May 01, 2018, 01:03:33 PM
Is there any news on when, or even if, HitBTC will be listing Bitcoin Interest, I'm looking forward to it getting listed on HitBTC, if it ever does.

quite incredibly this coin is soon on bitfinex which seems nuts to me as it hasn't even appeared on any coin listing sites like coinmarketcap as far as i can tell.

since it's on there you won't have to bother with a total hole like hitbtc.

how did this happen?
367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Walleting.Services] AUTOMATED Fork Extractions: BTG BCD SBTC BCX BTX LBTC BTCP on: May 01, 2018, 12:52:43 PM
i've noticed you listed united bitcoin.

how do you manage to extract this? as far as i can tell the nice people running it stole everyone's coins and shut the window a month or two ago. i tried all sorts of different ways but in the end it looked like you had to pay them bitcoin to get it out.

as an aside bitcoininterest, whatever that is, is now on bitfinex so i'm gonna use your service to extract it to there when it's ready.
368  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: May 01, 2018, 12:17:14 PM
Why do professionals need so many shitcoins ?  Huh  Lips sealed

i guess they have a lot of bitcoins which breed shitcoins like crazy. if i were bitfinex i'd create shitfinex as a separate site and leave the real coins to the main one.
369  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: May 01, 2018, 11:31:45 AM
http://blog.bitfinex.com/announcements/bitcoininterest-support/

bitfinex has gone full shitcoin. i have no idea what they were thinking when they added this. i guess a huge payday from the creeps who made it.
370  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis on: April 30, 2018, 08:24:08 PM
His long term calls have been epic. He called the April 2013 top, the July 2013 bottom, the December 2014 top. He predicted the 2017 run well before it happened. He obviously has a knack for this.

everyone has a knack until they don't any more. i'm always interested in what his thoughts are but i'm not certainly not betting my kid's college fund on his calls.
371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I buy Cardano before it hits 40 Cents on: April 30, 2018, 11:26:46 AM
ever heard the phrase - buy the rumor sell the news?

ever check this forum late last year when people were asking whether $3 XRP was a great buy?

do what you want but first question why you're desperate now and not when the price was in the doldrums. you'd be a lot richer right now.
372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin- 8% Airdrop every week on: April 30, 2018, 11:15:56 AM
when this project started i estimated a price around 50-100€ each BTX
i wish my holding strategy will be succesfull and i will send my headmaster to the hell soon
note: considering i lost my old wallet like an idiot with more than 200 btx

what has your headmaster done to you?

so this phase is now concluded. really interesting to see what happens from here. i probably won't pay any attention to price for a few months, i will be interested in the general level of attention. is it gonna fall away or ignite a new bout of interest?

from my own calculations based on occasionally checking the price, i would've been better off selling several weeks ago and buying back today. i would've gotten more than double the btx i have now.
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why so many Bitcoin users have fear of governments? on: April 30, 2018, 11:06:21 AM
it can be over egged but it's also an understandable dislike.

let's say the current system of government was proposed to a bunch of us nomads today.

we're thinking of coming up with this new system. it'll control where you're born, how you're born and whether your parents can keep you. when you're a few years old you'll spend most of the day in a school controlled by the government that'll teach you what happened in the past and how to think.

then you're out of school and you can't just live anywhere you want. you have to live in something approved by the government. that'll be taxed by that government. if you don't pay tax on it you'll be thrown in jail.

you'll have to work to pay for it. your work will be controlled by the government. there'll be certain things they won't permit you to do and there are so many of those you may not know you're breaking the law. if they find out they might send you to jail.

it's possible while you're working that a war will start and you will be forced to fight in it. it's not your business to question why the war is happening or whether it's actually protecting your country, more than likely it isn't and it's the agenda of a few people.

you may well die during this war. if you refuse to fight in this war they might send you to jail.

if you survive you get old. in theory you paid the government a vast amount of money to look after you in your old age. in reality they squandered the money and you're probably screwed.

then you die. the government controls how your corpse is disposed of. it costs a lot of money. if someone decides to something different with it then they go to jail.

if i was a nomad i would fire an arrow into the asshole proposing this system and disappear into the wilds.
374  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Steemit a kind of Mafia? on: April 28, 2018, 09:06:27 PM
I do not mean to criminal mafia but to groups working together to get more votes to get more money

yep. i think that is an absolute certainty. if it's possible, then someone is gonna do it and do it as hard as they can until the money or opportunities run out. they'd be leaving money on the table otherwise and very few people here do that.
375  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Steemit a kind of Mafia? on: April 28, 2018, 07:12:33 PM
long running thread here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1558366.0

"Mafia
ˈmafɪə/Submit
noun

an organized international body of criminals, operating originally in Sicily and now especially in Italy and the US and having a complex and ruthless behavioural code.

any organized group of criminals resembling the Mafia in its way of operating.

a group regarded as exerting a hidden sinister influence."

hmm, maybe the final one?

no one's doing anything criminal as far as i can tell. there are no doubt insiders who have milked it for all it's worth. also the guys at the top who make the most have been at it the longest and built the biggest operations.

newcomers may never be able to compete, but they can try with plenty of hard work.

376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What you want out of a new cryptocurrency? on: April 28, 2018, 07:04:41 PM
1. Interesting! We have a 50% premine. 50M coins. 10M went to sale, 10M for the company, 5M for bounty, and we are currently holding the 25M remaining. We want to escrow it with a decent volume exchange, and only hold 10M coins. So we will be able to satisfy 1 at some point. Good thing we didn't escrow with CoinsMarkets as they seem to have scammed everyone unfortunately.

2. I think we will be able to satisfy 2 in this Q2 2018 as we will be releasing SKL-to-Fiat debit cards which will allow holders to transact for their daily needs. Definitely will increase usability.

3. With the platforms we will launch as part of our roadmap, I think our project will become one that will interest you. We are still on the road, so now we may not be interesting to you. But, I think you will love our project later!  Smiley

Thanks so much for your input! I humbly appreciate it!

that's a vast figure and exactly what most people would not want to get involved with. people will automatically be forced to trust you to do the right thing with your holdings which is precisely why many left the old investment world behind and are getting increasingly disillusioned with this one.

i know you got bills to pay like everyone else, but that's gonna be a turn off for many.

other than that, let's see a cryptocurrency that has found a real world use and has formed business partnerships to exploit it. and i don't mean vague PR about something cool happening 'soon'.
377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Simalarities with bitcoin and the introduction of the internet on: April 28, 2018, 04:05:38 PM
https://twitter.com/paulg/status/896815063075618817

this is always an area that interests me. how far along are we? will the process be faster, slower or pivot into becoming something we haven't even thought of yet?

one thing you notice when you study both is how predictable the sea change in attitudes is. it's a very steady curve that'll gain in speed. we'll look back at the proclamations of death and 'drug money' and see that they were just as laughable the internet being killed off by a resurgent fax machine.

the thing i'm really interested to witness is this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September

if that occurs, or maybe we're in the early stages of it right now, then things will become insane.
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin- 8% Airdrop every week on: April 28, 2018, 03:49:23 PM
I'm bullish as hell about BTX, but I don't think binance listing is very likely, too expensive, who has the funds to pay for such an expensive exchange? afaik the devs don't have a premine to blow on exchanges, so unless the community steps up with a fund raiser, where does the money come from for Binance?

i can't remember the in and outs but the devs are holding back a big portion of the premine for their foundation to play with.

it depends on whether they think paying for a binance listing is a wise decision. i wouldn't know myself. it all seems a little murky with ongoing annual charges and they probably try and squeeze more elsewhere.
379  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: April 28, 2018, 12:38:13 PM
Ok I see, I might give a try with samourai wallet and will see how things go. In the end, I need a very handy hot wallet but, looking at the future, not having segwit onboard is a big limitation for Mycelium

i don't understand it. they're shooting themselves in the head by not integrating it. if they are talking about adding bcash then it makes even less sense. segwit would be a lot less work for them and they have all the time in the world to add shit tokens these days.
380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: April 28, 2018, 12:30:53 PM
I see dream about this coin . It will go 10 $ this year . i reserved some coin and hope so doing my dream Byteball Bytes coin.

are you in the right thread? $10 would mean byteball was heading towards fatal oblivion. the current price per unit is considerably higher than that.
