Came to WO twice to post Michael Saylor’s this stunning bull but got distracted by other things

Quite an attractive work of art.

Heaven help us it is not an NFT is it?
3683  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Are dices for generating seed words fair? on: October 24, 2023, 07:54:37 PM
so under the assumption that HT and TH have equal probability that method seems good for eliminating bias but there is that assumption.
That's not an assumption - it's pure math.

Let's say your coin is biased to 60% heads, 40% tails. The probability of HT is 0.6*0.4 = 0.24. The probability of TH is 0.4*0.6 = 0.24. The probability is identical. This is the whole premise behind von Neumann's algorithm - you know HT and TH are equally probable without the need to perform any statistical testing of your coin.

This finally hit me why it is wrong. The flipping must be done blindfolded and gloved to avoid a biased flipper that does not like your method.

Your assumption is that the coin is biased not the flipper. If it is the flipper your method is not good. Ie the flipper may subconsciously be able to take a neutral perfect coin and make it do heads 60-40

or tails 40-60 on any toss. So he would ruin the neumann method. unless he flips it gloved and blindfolded.
3684  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dump market potential? on: October 24, 2023, 07:34:34 PM
There are some confusion that might make me a little doubtful about the development of Bitcoin prices and adoption in 2024, which we all know that we will face Halving Bitcoin as well as the ETF agreement which is the most powerful indicator in encouraging Bitcoin prices, so that many people are speculating and accused The nominal is quite fantastic in Bitcoin in the last 2 years of the current cycle.

There is a dilemma that disturbs my mind, about the wider potential of war in the region of Palestine, we witness the reactions of various countries at the end of this week in the area, and show the great power of the eastern and western blocs, which we know that America and Friends said firmly that they became a strong supporter of Israel's annexation to the Palestinian region. Conversely Russia, North Korea and neighboring Palestinians, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran and others support Palestinian independence and are ready to be behind Palestinian troops, which all makes conflict and political tension of the power of the world's major blocks that might trigger a big war to occur if did not find a meeting point in this conflict.

From various sequences of problems and many aspects that can be associated, I become doubtful with the price development of Bitcoin which in the event of this war is enlarged, so as usual Bitcoin will experience a price decline, even though we know it is not just bitcoin that will be a victim of this conflict happen.

I do not mean to frighten or make FUD, I just want to discuss to share thoughts, but for an bitcoin intelligent investor, how do you respond to conflicts that have probability to suppress Bitcoin prices?

Dude war has been used to make people wealthy for thousands of years.

I am watching the financial new as I type this and the weapons sector in the USA alone is backordered 750 billion dollars.

Multiply this by a factor of three or four and the rest of the worlds weapon makers are in the same boat. ie cash and money is flowing to them like mad.

This is the worldwide military industrial complex at its finest.

Do I like it ? no

Have I seen it time and time and time again.

Watch the Nick Cage movie the lords of war.

Trust me the death and destruction never ends so btc will do well in this climate.

It is sad that so many must be hurt maimed or killed for a few hundred people to get very wealthy.
3685  Economy / Economics / Re: What does being rich mean in your perspective? on: October 24, 2023, 07:26:06 PM
It's one of question which differs from person to person. How do you define richness?

Rich for me

1) Time  under 30 is rich.
2) Health no illness of any kind is rich.
3) Muscle Tone and physically fit. is rich
4) Love a solid person for your lover. is rich
5) Wealth cash homes  is rich
6) no debt is rich
7) kids if you want them is rich
8 ) no kid if you don’t want them is rich

No one has all of the above.

Some people have a lot from that list and they are close to truly rich.

In July 2022 total accumulated 3634 sMerits (by 762 users):

So I looked at all smerit stats from this day on.

So from july 2022 to sept 2023 I did not finish in the top 200 .

Made me think. How many did I get and how many did I give for this period of time.

I tried to figure a reverse list but it is hard to create it.

If you got 300 and gave 155 you are negative  as 150 is max.

Well At least I know I give them away.
3688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe I should have taken this risk earlier. on: October 24, 2023, 06:58:08 PM
Till now my parents are bearing the cost of my education, I have recently completed my college education and my parents wish me to complete my graduation by studying in a private university. We have a small cow farm and we have some cows in this farm out of which some months ago my father sold one cow and deposited about one and a half thousand dollars (I said the value in dollars for everyone's understanding) in the bank for my education. It will take about four to five months to get admission in the university. I didn't plan to do anything with the money I saved for my education but recently the price of bitcoin has increased by about 10 thousand dollars and seeing this increase I think that I should invest in bitcoin now instead of leaving the money in the bank for these four to five months. Although I think it's a bit late for me to invest. Maybe I should have invested when Bitcoin was 26 thousand dollars then maybe I could have made a good profit at this point but there is no point in regretting what I didn't do Of course I will think about the present now. I think the price of bitcoin can cross 40 thousand dollars so investing in bitcoin now will not be a wrong decision for me at all.

1)Hindsight is twenty twenty.

2) Do not invest what you can not afford to lose.

You have fallen for 1)

Do not fall for 2)

There is a lot of money in federal bonds. They may be able to shift 500,000,000,000 into btc with ease.

We may go over 45k by dec 15th or so.

Yes which boosts my mining more. Hoping for no fallback rest of the year upwards

Sideways now in a 32-35 slot. Will wind out this way for a week. Then a new slot will start in November say 36-42.
3692  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generating a seed phrase with biased dice on: October 24, 2023, 03:41:07 PM
If I were to ever generate a seed like that, I would throw each die many times before to satisfy my own curiosity and see if I can notice patterns that shouldn't be there.
Simply noticing a pattern is insufficient to exclude bias. If you roll your die 60 times and get 15 ones, is that biased, or is that random chance? As I mentioned above, you need to use proper statistical testing, and even then you can only approach a confidence limit and never exclude a bias 100%. I've outlined one possible approach more in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5395587.msg59967945#msg59967945.

You need to decide how much bias is acceptable to you, and how sure you want to be you have excluded it. The number of rolls required exponentially increases as you want to be more certain you have excluded smaller biases.

In that case, wouldn't 100-200 rolls with 10 different dice (even if biased) be enough to generate randomness of somewhere between 130-200 bits of entropy which is more than enough as you don't get more from 12-word seeds and bitcoin private keys anyway?
Maybe. Maybe not. The numbers given so far in this thread discuss the Shannon entropy, but have you calculated the min-entropy you would achieve from doing this? What randomness extractor algorithm are you planning to use to turn those dice rolls in to usable entropy? How are you converting those dice rolls to binary without introducing modulo bias? It's not as simple as just "roll the dice more" - it's a very complex topic which most people do not fully understand (and I do not profess to either), which is why whenever the topic of manually generating entropy comes up, I always suggest von Neumann's coin flips to simply, quickly, and most importantly verifiably generate 128 or 256 bits of provably unbiased entropy.

I know you push the coin flip method. Makes the most sense.

3693  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Arabic Hawala System - Money Transfers - Average Transfers Amount - Fee - No KYC on: October 24, 2023, 12:48:24 PM
There is multi million private money transfer system in arab countries without any KYC from person to person etc. But what is average transfer amount in this system and transfer time. Also transfer fee ? And in which countries this system is working - also USA, UK through arab communities ? Which currency this system use for transfers - probably local in each country.  Grin

There is a system in New Jersey. Its called a jersey handshake 🤝 if you watch the movie 🎥

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey_Boys_(film)

if you watch the film above there is a good reference to it.

Hawala is a bit like a rather peaceful 'Mafia' money exchange. What that means is that if anyone in the Hawala network fails in his operation of the Hawala system, he is chastised by family or extended family.

If the Jersey Handshake system doesn't have something like that in place, some of your average honest people will skim a little... and more than a little at times. The system will fail. Of course, success is not what it is used for, anyway.

Cool

The Mafia learned a lot from Hawala System. they have been doing a variation of it for years. BTW Hassidic Jews have a similar system.  Makes sense since it is all near Mediterrian Sea locations.

I Spelled Med... wrong

Why are all cryptocurrencies soaring these days? Does anyone know the inside story? Huh Huh Huh

That is the movement of bitcoin and the market. Do you want the market to always be bearish? The financial market has only two directions: up and down, so you don't need to be surprised when it starts to increase after many days of decline. This is also proof that just by actively accumulating bitcoin, bitcoin will bring you sweet results. I have been accumulating since last year so far and my portfolio has had pretty good returns but I won't be in a rush to sell it all anytime soon as I believe bitcoin will take me to the next level.

Well the market can go sideways for years on end.

so there are three directions

down
sideways
up
3695  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: October 24, 2023, 11:43:53 AM
I think I will change next contest. Start at block 800 end at block 1200.

Yes, I think the 300-block window is very small, especially if it's during the weekend if the pace is at nearly 100% then we talking 2 full days, pretty easy to miss, I follow difficulty closely every day and I almost missed the contest this time, so I'd imagine someone else who isn't as active in the mining board would most likely miss most of the contests given the short notice.

I think 4 days for the contest would be good, so anything about 600 blocks window would do, those who pick early will have the advantage of larger options, but those who pick later will have the vantage of picking something closer to the current pace, so it isn't all that unfair when you think about it.

Your game, your rules, just chiming in with thoughts to help make this contest more fun.

I think I will change it to 500-1100 that is close to five days to pick. should work better.
3696  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why has Bitcoin skyrocketed recently? on: October 24, 2023, 11:23:49 AM
The price of Bitcoin continued to reach the resistance point and was unable to break it several times, but it succeeded this time because every time the price approached the resistance level, it became weaker. The way is now open to reach $38,000. the more we continue to close at levels higher than $32,000, the more possibility that we would not see $20,000- $30,000  levels soon.

we have until the end of the month. If the price continues above $32,000, we will most likely begin the beginning of the bull market.

Simple. Bitcoin price continues to rise after fake ETF news emerged until now. Because the price of the crypto parent rises, the altcoin market automatically also rises. The pattern that can be accepted in simple terms is that a lot of money comes in (investors and retail) and floods the Bitcoin and altcoin market capitalization.

I do not think this is true. The price fell after this false news, so its impact now is very limited.

For me the key number was 33333 they past it and are still above it.

I feel we are repeating the 2015-2016 pre ˝ ing runup pattern. basically 350 usd to 770 usd then it trailed off to 660 just after the ˝ ing.  If it is a full repeat we go to 45-48k Around Jan 2024 then drop to 35-39k right after the 1/2ing in April.

Doing the real rally oct 2024 hitting a new ATH by dec 2024 say 70k and running up till late spring of 2025 to 200k

Lovely day I dont watch the news and had the confidence to short the btc in my forex account. and this morning I woke up and watched the bitcoin break 30K level and all my accounts got rekt. Another day another dollar loss.

Sorry guys I don't know where to talk to  Cry

Oh gawd.. that is retarded.

First off.. fuck coinbase.. …
Ah yes …”C******e”. That is the other naughty, triggering c-word…
 on this here famous thread.

What a coincidence.

They both start with "C".

Just woke up...to witness that $5000 Bitcoin pump overnight..lol. Tongue

Edit: BlackRock's spot ETF is now listed on Nasdaq trade clearing firm.

Weren't you the one ominously predicting the exact opposite?

NGL, loading up for a little bit of profit taking.

Building out a ranch from nothing is fucking expensive, yo  Undecided

You frequently tend to sell too much too soon, but hey whatever.. no problem.. if you have extra BTC might as well sell some of them.  You can't take it with you.  Right?

Hopefully, you don't run out of cornz.

I have a feeling Bob is not going to run out of corn.

It got to exactly 35000 on coinbase and 34275 on bitstamp

First off.. fuck coinbase..

But yet.. still just barely.. staying in the don't wake me up zone, but it is hard to not get stimulated by that kind of sudden craziness.. going from the middle of the don't wake me up zone to the top of it, in just a matter of minutes.. or maybe we could say that the whole last 24 hours had been quite exciting with slow gravitating upwardly and with a BIG climax.. and surely we cannot even have any certainty regarding when the "BIG" purported and "imminently upcoming" $3k correction is going to actually come in reality rather than coming on paper (I mean "in theory").

WOPCP
^Probably something obvious but IDHAFC

Ok got it … duuuh! Lol

Last time, I remember it as the WOPCOP.  (No offense intended to my Italian law enforcement friends)

Yeah.. even though potentially obvious.. not yet struck by such.

Puzzle challenged.

well it cleared 34k and is holding at over 33 k so monday the 23rd of oct my demented bro-in-law 73rd birthday was the AYH for 2023. Figures  Grin.

Wish me luck driving to the btc gear shop and taking him to his doctor tomorrow. an all day affair.

3700  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin current range: $25K to $32K on: October 24, 2023, 12:00:02 AM
I'll just try to be brief. The BTC price movement is impressive and if you look at this market, a positive news event is really needed for BTC to be able to exit at $31K and if not a reversal occurs again because if it just stays there and stays at the $30K level the weaker the resistance will be.

There is heavy resistance at the 32k level. You are right that as long as BTC stays above the 30k level it will work as a support and the 32k level resistance will become weak. The month of October usually shows bullish sentiment and this time the same things are happening. We are almost at the end of octobar and i think these last few months will remain bullish for the overall crypto market.
bitcoin has broken through 33k level many times not long ago and indeed it keeps getting back to 32k level there are indeed huge resistance but it seems bitcoin just gonna go higher than 32 k in the upcoming days.
I wonder if altcoin will also follow after all there are many altcoins that has increased already.
the market is getting lively again and the market seems interesting many green everywhere just because bitcoin is rising.
i'm expecting that if bitcoin could really reach 40k within months then the altcoin will also rise tremendously unlike before in bearish.
even though we are still fraction of all time high, thats already good enough.

Bitcoin made it to 35000 even at coinbase today. the highest it has been in over a year.
