2741  Economy / Economics / Re: A big win for crypto again on: October 05, 2023, 06:49:13 PM
Is this really an Economics thread? More like Politics...

This is not a huge win, since McCarthy wasn't against bitcoin. Here's one of the things he had to say about it:
"Senate Democrats are now targeting people who have bought cryptocurrency. They think the tax code should treat the crypto ecosystem the same as it had been treating stockbrokers since 1954. That's not what I'd call 'progressive."

Of course his successor is pro bitcoin and anti SEC, but it's not like we've managed to get rid of Elizabeth Warren, or kick Gensler out of the SEC Wink

The crazy world is what we are living in now. IRS is even going to tax people who profit $600. It used to be $20k, a great leap under.

The change of speaker seems giving crypto holders hope for progress though and I think we may finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. If many lawmakers grilled GEnsler the other day on the hearing, this time there is support from this new speaker. I guess they may be able to grill Gensler on the Senate, if they also do a hearing on the Senate.

Can they fire Gensler thru senate? I think this is what they need for Spot ETF to go through.

Yeah it is fucking nuts. 600 is far too low of a number.  I get that 20,000 was easy to abuse. Sy a husband and a wife and 2 kids you could do 80,000 but 600 is too fucking low.

2743  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you are becoming a billionaire in 2025,buying a large ship should not be goal on: October 05, 2023, 02:48:30 PM
I didn't know that most of the government are eradicating poverty, they are not even trying, believe me.

And, you don't have the rights to tell anyone not to buy whatever they wanted to buy because of shouldering the government's responsibility to give jobs to the unemployed poor people, free houses, etc. I don't also think not buying a large ship will help poor people from poverty. To solve poverty, we should stop electing corrupt politicians, stop vote buying, because we're the one who are going to suffer in the long run because of it.

well this website allows free speech so he can say it. As for the solution to the poor blowing up the entire planet and killing everyone of us is the only way the governments could end poor people. It is simply a sad truth that some people don't mind being poor.
2744  Economy / Economics / Re: Women are more economical than men. on: October 05, 2023, 02:44:43 PM
We had this argument where I was the opinion that most men spend money on things that they are obligated to and cannot control it at times due to responsibilities, men are used to spending money already and because of being used to it, they can find it hard to be as economical as women can be. Do you agree with this unpopular opinion that women are more economical when it comes to money and are able to manage themselves and their homes better than men do?

No it will always vary person to person.
It will also vary culture to culture.

Cultures that force women to stay in a home make kids and keep house will have a different result than cultures that allow women to work and be independent.

I am USA based and I have seen many women with jobs and independent living plenty of them waste their money just as much as men do.
2745  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heating a Space via Mining on: October 05, 2023, 02:40:21 PM
Getting a notification email for this topic, thought to chime in. Last year had to get a room warmed up so the new plaster would dry. After two days of settling, it had to have both air flow and light heat for the water to evaporate, so I dusted off the old L3+ miner and set it up to run air around the room while running an air dryer at the lowest setting. Didn't bring much in in coin, but was a fun to show to the workers that dropped by.

Another thing I've been thinking of is linking liquid cooling from for example a bitmain machine (https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2022/03/14/bitmain-says-new-liquid-cooling-miner-is-its-most-power-efficient-model-to-date/) to a central heating system. Mostly it's using gas to heat water to run through the radiators, but with an abundance of solar panels, even in winter there could be overproduction. Instead of pushing that back into the grid, could be used to heat and mine. unfortunately bitmain isn't giving them away exactly very cheap.

Bitmain has a newer version

https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=000202309271329420372NbWET50062F&locale=en&region=en

and there are a few aliexpress companies that will provide a single unit cooler for it.

you will use 5400 watts so you need a 30 amp 240 volt circuit

5400 watts is about 18000 Btu of heat.
2746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Oct 2023] Fees are lower, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: October 05, 2023, 02:35:07 PM
Bitcoin Core is still as pessimistic as always. In the past 24 hours, transactions under 2 sat/vbyte got confirmed several times. Meanwhile, Bitcoin Core recommends more than 15 sat/vbyte for a confirmation within 24 hours! For 2 hours they recommend more than 23 sat/vbyte, and only for a 3 day target they recommend slightly less than 2 sat/vbyte.
Since Bitcoin Core is the basis of many wallets, it's no surprise fees quickly went up "into the green" many times in the past 24 hours.

Electrum gives similarly high recommendations when selecting "ETA", but when you choose "Mempool", it's the opposite: it shows 1 sat/vbyte is enough to be "5.0 MB from tip". That looks like a bug, there's 60 MB waiting at 1-2 sat/vbyte, and 5 MB from the tip will only throw you in that large pool. 1.1 sat might be enough, but it's hard to tell.

Either way, be smart about fees Smiley

one of the problems is viabtc.com altered the free boost it used to be if you paid at least 11 sats a byte  it would do any size transaction.

now no matter what you pay per byte the limit size trans action is 500 bytes.  these are very small size so there are now always a lot of free accelerations available from them but very few people have a tiny enough tx to use the free one.

I was able this weekend to consolidate all my ex's I had a lot if I used trezor's economic number it would have been 13 sats a byte cost would have been 20 bucks

normal cost they wanted 18 sats a byte about 35 usd in fees

high number they wanted 24 sats a byte about 50 usd in fees

I did 6 to 9 sats custom and paid about 11 bucks.

Since I know I can't uses viabtc for free due to size of the tx I went under 10 sats and did the 6-9 sat range.  Trezor allows fee boost if needed so going to 6-9 was enough savings for me.

Now all my accounts are only 1 per tx if I do a send.  So if we go nuts and reach 100 sats I could do an 11 sat send and use the free viabtc due to the tx being 227 bytes.  So all in all it was a good weekend .  all thanks to

https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,2w,fee.     I should toss him a small donation as he saved me money

he has a donation address on the link above.

If you are becoming a billionaire in 2025, buying a large ship should not be a goal

<snip>

1. People have no home and there is hunger and poverty in the world
2. People have no money and many people will remain poor in 2030, while many governments are running the manifesto of eradicating poverty from the world by 2030. (We have to completely eradicate poverty from the world by 2030, The goal of ending poverty is that everyone has everything so that no one is deprived of anything)
3. Many people are deprived of treatment facilities and good physical health

To overcome all these things you must do things that remove all these deprivations,
1. Build free homes for people who don't have houses
2. Provide free quality food to people (And do it all before 2028)
"You can launch a project with the help of cryptocurrency or do something through AI"
3. For those who are deprived of wealth, the means to provide wealth should be created (As the maximum purchasing power of a person in poor countries is 2 dollars, converting these 2 dollars into 2000 dollars per month should be our next step)
4. Many things are necessary to improve people's health and eliminate death

Can you build free robotic hospitals in every country or every city in the world?

No one is going to eliminate poverty in the world by 2030. Well maybe Putin if he blows the place up and kills us all there will be no poverty. At some point in my life I realized what Jesus Christ said was true “The poor you will always have with you” (Mk 14:7). My bible reads :“The poor you will always be with you” (Mk 14:7)

Point is governments are not going to fix the issue. So you need to ask yourself what should I do since I am stuck here with everyone else.  Buying a big yacht  may get you killed by pirates so don't buy one. Get a nice home you can defend and set it up for you and your loved ones. Seems like a plan to me.

Free food to the poor will only allow the poor to make more kids a terrible idea on your part.

2749  Economy / Economics / Re: Early Retirement [Pros and Cons] on: October 05, 2023, 04:17:45 AM
Who isn't dreaming of escaping the rat race. I'd like to work or invest today so I'll be able to retire early. I want to enjoy my old age I don't want hassles of finding money to pay for my living. You've retired in 66 or 67 but I'd like to retire when I'm younger.

You've found a cool balance to keeping busy so long as you're active you'll be enjoying your life for many years. Working 2 or 3 hours every day online gives you freedom to make your own hours that's the way I'd like to retire. If I can receive a pension with investment returns each month I'll say it's a success.

My wife and I are 66 and 67. She retired in 2012 at 55 after working at 1 job for 33 years.

I got my  pension last year. But I mine and make money in sales ands I am self employed for years.

I make my own hours. I would find it impossible to work 5 days a week 8 hours a day.  but 2 or 3 hours every day via internet and some trips to the mine 2-4 times a month I will likely do for years to come.

I like the work yet I also have a lot of time to spend with the wife.

This Sunday we went to the beach on the Jersey shore. Walked for 75 minutes. Then went to a restaurant ate German food then drove to Six flags great adventure and went to 3 shows of fright Fest along with a few rides,  A long exciting day.

Saturday it rained like mad we slept in . Played  for a few hours ate a brunch, The watched some old movies. I did some mining work on line. It is a good life as we no longer have the rat race to deal with.

I think this works for me and my wife because we get along been together 37 years and still like to hang out with each other.

My wife had a hard job IRS revenue agent. A shit ton of rules and regs to obey.  She found a lot of freedom when she went on pension.

I don't know if this post is off-topic or not, but the first future-based ETH ETF just made their debut on the market.
Well, the outcome was not outstanding, as it was for BITO.

this is on topic. Any rational person understands that a POS coin is not really anything more than an un regulated un backed bond while any large asic back POW coin is back by power network infrastructure and asics.

Nice find I only wish people would understand POW is energy creating wealth

and POS is piece of shit.

The market seems to be agreeing with you, somewhat, Philip... and surely it seems to be getting possible that the ethereum price (in terms of BTC) is going to seen get to a 2 year low point.. not sure if  it will happen. .but maybe this fairly dumb future's product will help to bring Eth further in the direction of its lacking in value as compared with king daddy.

I am hoping for 1 btc to go 32x the value of 1 eth by years end.

numbers are 27.7/1.645 = 16.8x
2752  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Transactions in mempool fell off a clif? on: October 05, 2023, 02:19:40 AM
A BRC-20 token called Sats which launched earlier this year finally finished minting all their tokens.

I wonder what if thet start to mint another shittoken  Roll Eyes Huh

If they alrady made some profit with previous experiment, do you believe that they will stop there?

it is more complex then that.  Viabtc has been paying 104 to 105% due to the excess tx numbers

they have dropped to 99% so about 0.06 x 6.25 = 0.3750 coins per block are gone.

stretch it out to 144 blocks  and that is 54 btc not going to miners per day . about 1.458 million a day lost to miners. Thus miners are dropping like flies at the moment.

2753  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: October 05, 2023, 02:08:37 AM
Even if they fix battery problem I don't think it's possible to switch to electric cars by 2035, that's too early. I believe it takes at least 50 years to make that change. EU may push for closer timeframe but for other parts of the world petrol will still dominate. The production and development of electric vehicles is still progressing very slowly. When you calculate the world population and the need for cars, it becomes clear that this isn't possible in the near future.

You know they could do a mix of ev's and hybrids really fast.

I don't understand why they don't push in that method first.

I like the telsa my partner owns one, but they could have a built in gas based generator which would

make the car be able to get to a super charger.

(I don't know if meta would be appropriate for this thread any suggestions would be appreciated)

I've been pondering an important topic that I believe deserves our thoughtful consideration. ''plagiarism within our community". it might not be a good one, it's certainly worth discussing.

Each day, as we observe the Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed thread by LoyceV, it becomes apparent that many of these plagiarizers often fall into the category of newbies and low-ranked members. These actions, whether intentional or not, seem to be on the rise but thanks to some of our diligent plagiarism busters here on the forum, a lot of them are caught on spot.

We know that many of us avidly and constantly read various articles from different sources, accumulating knowledge along the way. When questions arise on the forum related to the information we've gathered, we naturally share our insights. This raises an intriguing question. is it possible to inadvertently or unknowingly plagiarize content? a lot of these offenders in their appeal thread, claims to have been unaware or unintentionally plagarized their contents.

Ever since I joined this forum and learned that plagiarism is a strict rule that cannot be broken, I've been exceptionally cautious. When creating threads or replies, I even utilize plagiarism checkers to ensure there are no unintentional similarities with existing content. However, I wonder if other members have considered this aspect as well. Perhaps there might be some instances where we may unknowingly fall into the category of plagiarism victims, which could lead to account bans.

I've come across numerous ban appeal threads, but not all of them result in unbanning. So, my question is this, What if some members don't intentionally plagiarize content but still find themselves in that category?

Let's approach this discussion with reason and understanding, avoiding negative responses. Your insights and experiences on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

No to your topic. Intent matters for conviction of the act.

The problem is you can write a shorter set of sentences that are an exact copy of someone else's work since the infinite monkey with infinite typewriter idea is true.

This site is USA based so plagiarism is not allowed thus it attempts to stop it.

So the difficulty is did someone do something on purpose or unintentionally has happened here more than one time.

Since the website could be punished it tends to convict is two or more sentences are exact.

2760  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: October 04, 2023, 08:10:33 PM
All the hydrocarbon run vehicles can't be replaced with electric vehicles. I don't think that it is possible to manufacture enough EV batteries for that purpose. In the earth's crust, we have a limited amount of lithium, cobalt and nickel available and this amount is not enough to manufacture huge number of batteries. So unless someone comes up with some new battery technology, this is never going to happen.

Good point if correct.

here is a nickel estimate.
https://nickelinstitute.org/blog/2020/january/reserves-resources-and-recycling-is-there-enough-nickel/

so 89 million left for sure and 300 million for maybe

we mine 2 million yearly.  If all numbers are true the question is how much of the 2 million mined goes to batteries right now.

I get this number  from a google search

Will Adams, Head of Base Metals and Battery Research at Fastmarkets, calculates roughly 45kg of nickel per vehicle, which meant 70,000 tonnes in 2018 growing to perhaps 600,000 tonnes by 2025.

45kg a car

google search says 85 million cars a year.

so 85million x 45 =  3825 million kgs of nickel needed or around 3.825million tons a year

So we go to 5 million tons a year vs 2 million .  we have 89+300= 389

plus we can recycle .  So for nickel it could work.

Not sure about lithium or cobalt
