Just like it's possible for Bitcoin developers to force a special block into the network to give them a billion coins.

I don't think the word "force" means what you think it means.  Force means, "Do what I say or suffer the consequences."  So if the sole developer of SolidCoin decided to spend those "unspendable coins" with an update that everyone must use, or be prevented from spending the coins, that is force.  "Update to the new code, validating my actions, or make your own coins worthless."  That's force.

Should the Bitcoin developers decide to write a block with a billion coins, they cannot do what you can do.  They must convince the top pools to accept the block.  If they don't want to accept the block, there are no consequences.  Saying the Bitcoin developers can force others to do something is like saying I am forcing you to wear black socks instead of white by the mere suggestion.

Bitcoin - Do something you don't want to do.

SolidCoin - Do something you don't want to do, or else I will get you!

See the difference?

Don't worry, I can't download the chain on my windows box or my linux box...

Just remember; its a feature, not a bug.  Who needs blockchains anyhow on SolidCoin?  It isn't decentralized, so what's the point of wasting space.  This is a glorious feature comrade.  On your 1TB hard drive, the block chain will use up .1% of it.  How can you live with that kind of wasteful bloat?  It isn't like the average hard drive is going to double in size per dollar every few years or anything crazy like that.

Facebook credits don't require a blockchain; why should SolidCoin?
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Suggestion] Litecoin Forum on: February 13, 2012, 08:50:22 PM
I just thought it would be a good idea for litecoin to have its own forum for discussion, not to take away the idea that discussing litecoin here is still worthwhile.

Perhaps someone would take on the task of hosting a litecoin forum. I'd do it but I'm too busy to take on such a task.

Like I said, just a suggestion.

I suggest the Osiris Litecoin forum.  It is anarchic, which me that like Wikipedia, you're free to add and edit it (landing page, topics, etc...).  It is semi-anonymous, which as far as I can tell, means that your IP address cannot be traced to your username.  It is also peer 2 peer, which means that so long as one node is running it, it cannot be taken down.

Please see the link in my sig.

385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin (solo)-miners?! Come to Litecoin P2Pool!! A new promotion is coming! on: February 08, 2012, 08:17:28 PM
Quick question about spending coins mined with p2pool.  I would get about 1.5 LTC every few hours and then when I spent a large batch of them, the transaction looked like this...

http://blockexplorer.sytes.net/block/5b3e4faf1f43c192fad0c476d5ba76969c38c5124e494f6cf94c3371e65be86e

As you can see, there are several small transactions and only one big one of 28LTC.  I don't know if this is how p2pool is supposed to work, because when I sent all those coins to my main wallet, the transaction fee was obviously higher than I would like and higher than I'm sure most miners are counting on.

So the question is... is this normal?
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anarchic p2p Litecoin Market Portal on: February 08, 2012, 04:18:17 PM
Litecoin Market

To use, you must download and install the free Osiris Serverless Portal System software.  http://www.osiris-sps.org/

When you have Osiris running in the background, click the Litecoin Market link above and join the portal.

The board is anarchic, meaning that there isn't a moderator or anyone else who can censor your posts without recourse.  The forum will take its shape on a reputation system, meaning users with high reputations will have their content confirmed by the system, while users with bad reputations will find their contributions naturally ousted.  Censors and attackers will naturally receive bad reputations and any changes they make will automatically revert back, or so this seems to be what Osiris is advertising.

Additionally, the system is anonymous, meaning that individual users can't be traced to individual IP addresses.  This is what Osiris is claiming.  I am not knowledgeable enough to know if this is actually the case.

We have Litecoins.  Let's see if we can get a market going where they might actually be worth something!

Why make it harder for someone to join a Litecoin market by making them install portal software first?

Is it because of the nature of this particular LTC market? (Anarchic?)

Just Curious, thanks.

3 reasons.  1 - It cannot be shut down.  2 - According to the Osiris developers, it is semi-anonymous, where IP addresses cannot be connected to any particular user.  3 - The nature of the board is that it is created by the users, where good content is kept and bad content is purged according to a semi-democratic system.

Pirate,

what miner software do you support?
I can connect with Phoenix but it reports some problems about the communication from time to time.

no i am using CGMINER but it can't connect to your pool. I am wondering if you have a fix for this?

Anyone else has the same problem?

I tried using Phoenix in guiminer, but I ran into the same problems.  I am now using cgminer with the poclbm kernal and it runs a little slower than poclbm in guiminer, but at least it doesn't crash or run my cpu at 100%.

Right now I have 800mh give or take.    When the BF arrives I'll sell my cards and I'll have 800mh.  If I didn't pre-order a BF, I'd still have 800mh.

800MH + $$$

Believe it or not, money in your pocket is worth more to you than money in mine.

I already have cards mining, and when the Bitforce box arrives I'll just be selling the cards and replacing them, so I'm not missing out on anything.

You don't have as many cards mining as you would otherwise.

Well, it's very useful for me. I can see how much my server can handle, and find bottlenecks in my software. Smiley

Wonderful.  Now just so I understand how your payout system works, for shift #1398, my score is .01260124, meaning my reward will be around 50*.01260124, which is where my expected reward comes in.  But this will only occur if the next block is found before shift #1408 ends, which will happen in about 6 hours or so.  If no block is found by then, I'll get nothing.

Question, suppose 2 blocks are found rapidly by your pool.  A block is found in shift 1500 and shift 1501.  The block in shift 1500 will be composed of the work done in shift 1490-1500.  And then for the block in shift 1501 will be paid out to the workers in shifts 1491-1501, no?  Is this how it works?

33GH, thats some serious hashing power!

I threw some GPUMAX at you attempting to figure out what the use of leasing hashing power was.  I'm still clueless.   Huh
394  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 02, 2012, 03:38:54 PM

As I have said in the past, we do sleep and don't yet trust the system to run purchases on its own overnight.  So if your purchase doesn't run its because either we are backed up or we are asleep.

You are not banned from anything.

Only trying to confirm that what I did was not an infinite loop before purchase was activated.  Thanks.
395  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 02, 2012, 02:08:30 PM
Is it that simple though?  How often are you paid $10 per hour by person X so that you may work a job and deposit $8 an hour into his bank account?  Because that's what *appears* to be happening here...

Now, neither of these address the "we make lots of money buying shares" secret... I won't spoil that for everyone...

At some point, the "we have a secret technique" people are going to begin to sound like the people who create a book that spills the beans on how to get rich quick that in the end, explain the secret is to merely write a book wherein a secret is promised and the author promises it will sell like hotcakes.  Kind of an infinite loop.

Speaking of infinite loops, I fear that I may have just banned myself.  The IRC channel is dead and my payment for purchased shares is about to reach 6 confirmations.  I am mining for public work and unleased shared go to Eligius.  I had a disconnected worker with a funny title that I forgot about.  I purchased shares and picked the pool from the drop down that that worker would work on if I were mining it, Slush.  Have I just royally messed up?

Or is the infinite loop problem here where I create a pool that goes to gpumax.com with my workers username and password, and purchase shares to mine it?

I really don't want to be banned, so if this can get cleared up, I'd appreciate it.

I'm simply asking for an explanation of what many seem to have figured out.

It is not that hard to figure out there are people out there who are willing to pay good money to have hashing power they don't have mining for them to get BTC, we get to share in the extra BTC gained that they are willing to pay due to the system setup at this pool it is that simple.

398  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: February 01, 2012, 06:43:12 PM

My the basic question: why would someone buy shares at a rate greater than the current PPS rate? Why pay 1.2BTC for a service that returns 1.0BTC to the buyer? I can visualize some uses (testing a pool, for example), but I find it hard to believe this is what the bulk of the purchases are being used for. How does a buyer profit?

What I'm wondering is if there's an element of gambling involved with sending those shares to a pool like Slush.  Suppose one doesn't buy 20k, but rather 500k, and this costs 10BTC.  If you rush those shares onto Slush all at once AND a block is found, would your reward of huge very recent shares be profitable?  Can you crowd out everyone else?

Any way you can make sure that I'm on the invite list?  michaelmclees at gmail dot com?  I registered a while back but haven't got an invite.  And if I request and invite now I get an error.

Yes you are on the list.  You should be in today or tomorrows batch.

Thanks!
