461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Be ready when is launches! on: October 12, 2011, 03:10:46 PM
I'm considering opening my pool tonight so you can connect now, and then when the info is released for the main, I can make the switch and all the miners will update automatically.

On the flip side of the coin, doing so I am afraid will make the first blocks a cluster fuck of orphans and everyone will get pissed off.

Thoughts are more than welcome. My original thoughts were to wait until a couple of difficulty changes. Being as the time switch for most of us will be while we normally sleep, I thought one person awake might be better than all of us.

Oh, and if anyone wants some testnet coins, give me an address and I'll send you 10,000.

I'm inclined to ask you to wait for a day or so so we can get an established chain going.  Difficulty initially will be low enough that no one would benefit from using a pool anyway.  This hopefully will change quickly.

You need to edit your litecoin.conf file after the launch if you want to mine.

Can't I just edit litecoin.conf to testnet = 0 a few hours before launch, then set my delayed miner?
Or will some secret information be released at 3GMT to be added to litecoin.conf ?

Does the new optimized for Intel Tenebrix miner work on Litecoin as well?

The new miner does work for LiteCoin.  You'll see a small increase if you use it.  I'm not sure if source is available or needed... so I can't vouch for safety or anything like that.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: October 12, 2011, 12:25:34 PM
Guys, try the new Tenebrix-minerd (now with modified scrypt) from my GIT (default branch)

It does build (Ubuntu and win tested), but since I have no lintel stuff, my testing is limited

Intel users on windows are of especial interest.

Please compare performance with http://www.wuala.com/jbw9/pub/Bitcoin/Tenebrix/miner/win/

I saw a 15% increase with my Core2Duo by using the SSSE3 Core2 miner.

1 Satoshi

No.

You need to have a client open unless you're planning on pool mining.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Tenebrix: json_rpc_call failed, retry after 30 seconds on: October 11, 2011, 08:00:37 PM
Hmm... That looks correct actually.  Not sure.

Post your config file and your mining batch text.

Make sure your config in Tenebrix has the line "server=1".

Make me an offer in BTC or TBX.
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When should Litecoin be launched? on: October 11, 2011, 04:45:39 PM
I hope we get a second round to choose between the 2 most voted options. It'd be sad to end up launching at 3am just because GMT voters got spread over 3 day times.

If there's a close tie between the last 2 options. Would it make sense to launch halfway between them?

that would be changing the rules of the vote halfway. Not fair.
It is also very possible that the average would be very inconvenient for people who voted for the nearest time slot. For instance 1h more or less can make the difference between being at home and being at work.

I agree.  I say we release on exactly the moment that gets the most votes.  It isn't convenient for me, but if we're going to make statements, we need to stick by them.

The thing is, when someone makes a claim that Bitcoin is secure, it is believable because we know that people, you included, are able to see the source code and make sense of it, even if we can't.

With SC2, no one is even able to make that claim, let alone verify it.

Wish more people from the US would weigh in on this so...  I might have to get up extra early...

Ignored bulanula.  Smartest thing I did all day.

Some of you probably want to use minerd for mining and are unable to without a little difficulty.

http://www.mediafire.com/?v76sfm1yiwmiz9i

All you need to do is unpack those files into your Litecoin folder and start minerd with one of the .bat's included.  You can edit the .bat files to customize how many threads you're going to use for mining and other options.

Make sure you have the lines "server=1" and "gen=0" in your litecoin.conf file.  This way, the client is run as a server for solo mining and the client is instructed to not generate coins itself.  You may set "gen=1" if you want the client to do the mining.  It's up to you.

./minerd --user 1 --pass 1 --url http://127.0.0.1:9332

There is something on port 19333 when I try nmap and telnet
Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Try the 9332 I have there the default as listed in first post the 19333 is the port to open in the router to get the connections to other miners for the testnet and you may want rpcport=9332 in the .conf as well just to be sure.

That is how I have it, but I get the same error.  My guess is that my ports are closed.  With Fairbrix, this was solved with the creation of an IRC channel, I believe.

I did not open any ports when testing and it went fine this was what I have for conf file for the built in miner it worked well.

Code:

miner6@miner6:~/src/litecoin-0.4.0-441/src$ cat ~/.litecoin/litecoin.conf
rpcuser=miners
rpcpassword=litecoin
rpcallowip=*
rpcport=9332
daemon=1
server=1
gen=1
testnet=1

Yeah the built in miner works well, but some people are going to want to use minerd, so it's a small kink to work out.

I fucking hate Windows 7.  Only because I don't use it so don't get the little changes still.  I have no access to the Application Data folder, and even so the icon is just shortcut to something else.  I was reading how Win7 changed the Doc and Settings to Users and other little changes, but it seems one of the changes is I have no actual Application Data folder.   Sorry guys to throw this in the thread, if anyone knows the quick easy way around whatever this is, thanks.  Otherwise I guess I will just make a master .conf file to copy and paste to every directory till the right one is found :p

I'll be throwing this on an XP machine I guess, but I am curious about what changes Win7 made with all this shit, I am way late to finding all this out lol

Make sure you are showing hidden files and folders.

Noob question, where does one find a proper place to put a .conf file in Windows 7?   The c:/users folder does not seem to have an equivalent directory for this.

Put it in C:\Users\Owner\App Data\Roaming\Litecoin

Open notepad and use the line "testnet=1".  Save as litecoin.conf (make sure it isn't saved as a .txt file in any way).

Litecoin should open in testnet now.
