Promptly received my batch of followers, got about 6.7k so far so will see how many stay Smiley
Haven't tweeted anything yet and it won't be used for spam, might be useless, but the service from OP is good.

cheers, MB

there is no where in the world it is 11pm on friday the 20th... but yeah we need a timezone...
Gah, I am a fool. I can't even tell the date either... I misred and got confused when OP said only 3 hours left, I'm going to bed.. far to tired after making new rig cases.

I'll put one last bid in of 4.5btc just for good cause.

Here it is, I finally got around to getting the camera out.
This is my home made/bodged/ghetto cabinet I threw together one weekend.
It was an old glass cabinet I found in a skip which I ripped all the glass out apart from the door and replaced with some perspex I had lying around.
It cost me nothing to make, apart from buying the bathroom extractor fans.
4 x 5870's in the top & 2 x 6990's in the bottom.
I had some real trouble cutting that perspex with a jigsaw causing some splits and cracks (easily fixed with good old super glue) Until I discovered some spray grease and covered the blade and perspex to keep it cool while cutting.
And yes, that's a pair of my mothers tights I stole to use as air filters!
I salvaged an old computer case for the hdd bay & the power switches for the side. (it was such a pain leaning inside and using a piece of plastic to flip the switch)
You can't really see from the pictures but I used to use cardboard to wedge the 5870's apart for airflow, but I have upgraded to a length of meccano which works perfectly (hence the little meccano spanner)
This is running happily in my garage which is about 30m away from my house, I bought some old routers off ebay and set them up as access points to get internet in there.

Clocks:
5870 1: 985/300 458mhs 72C
5870 2: 940/300 437mhs 65C
5870 3: 940/300 437mhs 60C
5870 4: 940/300 437mhs 63C
6990 1: 920/600 413mhs 72C
6990 2: 920/600 413mhs 71C
6990 3: 920/600 413mhs 73C
6990 4: 920/600 413mhs 69C
All fans are at 85% and ambient room is around 25C

I've just finished my second cabinet, I had some 5970s come in and thought I should expand a little and combine everything to take up less space in my garage.
Maybe I will sell the other one on ebay  Undecided

Sorry for the crap picture quality, it is taken on my mobile phone and I have literally just finished it, I might have to tweak a few things here and there but I was excited to show you guys  Cheesy

It currently holds 1x 6770, 1x 6990, 6x 5870 and 6x 5970
1000m3 air in via 2 fans split between each 2 sections, 500m3 air out via the 4 exhaust ports.
I have only had it mining for around 30 minutes so far, so I won't quote temperatures just yet, but its looking good so far. (Will have more time this weekend to play around with it and get some proper pictures and temperature readings)
387  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Req. 4 x 5970. on: January 17, 2012, 05:15:47 PM
I've been told that 5970s and 6990s draw the full 75w from your pcie slot, how, with 4 on 1 single board do you not melt your 24pin atx plug on your motherboard? Apparently that plug is only rated for 150w total.
I also read the same here: http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=44

They don't and the link you provided states the same thing.

Quote
Each HD 5970 draws 3.7A@12V from the slot alone, excluding the 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors.

3.7 * 12 = 44W

When mining (which has reduced memclock) I measured ~35W using a clampmeter.

That's good to know, thank you for the correction.

I might as well chime in, I just built another one like this last night.

when I originally built my first 4x5970 rig, the psu was a silverstone 1200. it would run stable at 775/420, but NOT at 800/420. I then went with 2 seasonic  1 750 and 1 650 for each of the next 4.

My latest build is 4x5970 with a seasonic 1250.  it has been at 820/300 for about 12 hours.

I would like to know as I have some 5970s coming in soon and want to put 3 on a single board without having to mess around making powered risers.

390  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Will minning bitcoins kill your card? on: January 15, 2012, 12:30:36 AM
I've had problems with 2 of my 9 cards which went live April/May 2011 time.
Card 1 died on me around October. The fans would spin up on power on but no post or display, upon further inspection it was apparent that a single cable from my pcie plug had come loose and fell out. Not sure if that was the cause or just a coincidence.
Card 2's fan bearings seized on me just before Christmas. Bought an aftermarket cooler as an rma would have left me with an alternate model.

Both cards were overclocked to just before the point of crashing, fan speed a constant 85% and temps were always under 70C, even in the hight of summer. They were made by XFX to which I am trying to avoid in the future  Cheesy

This pool isn't letting me cash out my bitcoins. I'm not sure why.
That is because as of writing this message the pool is in negative equity, as seen on the stats page: = SMPPS Buffer   -206.07366808 BTC

393  Bitcoin / Mining support / Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Help with Grub boot menu on resume from power loss on: January 11, 2012, 08:58:40 PM
Hi chaps, wondering if someone could help me out a little here.
Basically if/when my headless rigs looses AC power and is resumed at a later time sometimes the rig will get stuck on the Grub boot loader menu with the first item selected, I have to attach a keyboard and press Enter to resume boot.
To my understanding my grub config file below is correct and it should boot the first item in the list after 10 seconds?

Any ideas on how I can disable this menu appearing after an AC power loss and just always boot the default?

395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cannot message another member - how come? on: January 05, 2012, 09:47:59 PM
Q1: Why is this crippling restriction omitted from the disclaimer?
It is not ommited, as can be seen here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15958.msg209292#msg209292

Q2: Now many forum posts does it take to be able to message another member?
You should be able to send a PM now as you have a couple of posts.

Hope it helps.

400  Economy / Goods / [WTB] 8 x 5870/5970/6990 UK/EU only on: December 06, 2011, 10:36:27 PM
Looking for 8 x 5870s, would prefer Sapphire Vapor X models but any other reference version with the fans on the end will do (not the middle)

Might also take 5970's or 6990's if the prices are right.

Must be in the UK/EU.

Can pay cash/paypal/bitcoin

Let me know what you've got  Cool
