381  Other / Politics & Society / In 1965 the CIA was in charge of a torture program that killed 40,000+ people. on: December 13, 2014, 09:36:55 AM

Just imagine what else is going on that we don't know about. The CIA basically seem to be the American SS/Gestapo.
382  Other / Politics & Society / Re: cop assaults man after being asked to move his vechicle on: December 12, 2014, 06:05:51 AM
Ah, the good ole' resisting arrest charge. Need to arrest someone but don't have anything to go on? Slap em with a "resisting arrest" charge. The justice system in the U.S. is literally a joke and nothing's gonna change any time soon. A damned shame if you ask me. What happened to "land of the free"?
383  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can a man-made computer become conscious? on: December 12, 2014, 05:58:16 AM
What you're describing is called the Singularity. The premise is as our technology increases exponentially, there will be a point in time where human created AI will inevitably outpace our own intelligence. What does a smart AI do once it is activated? It tries to create another smarter version of itself of course! If allowed to continue over a number of generations, you're gonna have a pretty scary AI and a force to be reckoned with. I'd say this is one scenario where humans will wipe themselves out, amongst the many other doomsday scenarios we're capable of.
384  Other / Off-topic / Re: Aliens vs. Predator vs. Terminators, who would win? on: December 11, 2014, 07:07:07 AM
The terminator should win, but if the Xenomorphs realize their blood could dissolve the T-800 then who knows. The T-1000 on the other hand should prove to be much more difficult to kill.

But the thing is the Xenomorphs wouldn't be able to easily detect the T-800's because they aren't technically organic right?
385  Other / Off-topic / Re: Aliens vs. Predator vs. Terminators, who would win? on: December 11, 2014, 07:06:01 AM
Perhaps the Xenomorphs would have the upper hand in the numbers game you provided, but if there was one of each the obvious choice is the Predator.  Cool

Yeah I was a little unsure how to number everything. But based on past comics I've read, it seems each predator can basically take out at least 30 or 40 Xenomorphs before they die. For the T-800's I wasn't too sure because they're in a completely different universe.
386  Other / Off-topic / Aliens vs. Predator vs. Terminators, who would win? on: December 11, 2014, 06:33:43 AM
The scenario: 400 Xenomorphs are dropped off on a remote island. There are 10 Predators that prepare to do battle and are drop shipped on site. 30 T-800's are also mobilized to exterminate both threats. Who would win?

If you have a better idea of how to balance this scenario, go for it. I was kinda unsure how many to put for each category while still being fair.
387  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lockheed says makes breakthrough on fusion energy project on: December 11, 2014, 06:27:52 AM
Every time I read one of these articles there's always the phrase "10 - 15 years until commercial feasibility". 10 more years has always been said on fusion technology ever since the 40's. I wouldn't hold my breath too long. Give us working proof that this is commercially viable and I'll be listening. Until then, don't get your hopes up everyone.
388  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China Just Overtook The US As The World's Largest Economy on: December 11, 2014, 06:22:41 AM
A lot of people are reacting negatively to this news but fail to see a lot of the good that comes out of it. For one thing, since manufacturing costs in China vs the U.S. is almost reaching parity, this forces a lot of U.S. based companies to bring back their operations onto the home front. In the end this will be better for our own economy.

Hell, the Chinese are even outsourcing some jobs to the U.S. which can only help OUR own economy.

He broke the one rule; don't ever talk to the police. They are not your friends. That policeman did not have his interests in mind, he was protecting the airline. They work for the corporations, not you or me.

Again, don't talk to the police. Here is a lawyer with 20+ years of criminal litigation experience explaining why you should never speak to the police, it can only hurt you.

390  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could bitcoin users get a piece of land somewhere? on: December 11, 2014, 12:47:08 AM
There is already a Bitcoin land: http://mw.micronation.org/wiki/Woodland_Patchwork

The curious fact is that it is in Japan, the supposed land of mysterious Bitcoin inventor...  Smiley

I wonder about the authenticity of this micronation since there aren't any supporting articles or news clips. Anything investigatory into the claim that this is a real thing. I'd be surprised if the Japanese government openly allowed this sort of thing. I'd have to see some solid proof and evidence of its existence to take this wiki article seriously.

392  Other / Off-topic / Re: Piratebay taken down on: December 10, 2014, 08:57:38 PM
The Pirate Bay isn't even on a true server anyway. They're typically loaded onto virtual servers and only the front end-load balancer is exposed. The back-end is stored in RAM. The police won't be able to access all the information that contains cloud hosting location, etc. There's only a couple of things I can think of off the bat that would reveal that information, but if it hasn't been done yet then I'm confident TPB isn't in any huge threat of being permanently disabled. The people behind it really know their stuff.
393  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin taxation ?? on: December 10, 2014, 08:51:49 PM
Question for the more law savvy here: What if I sent 30 btc to a "friend" overseas at $500 a piece. Then a couple of months later when the price per btc reaches $1,000, your "friend" then "sells" back the btc to you and you immediately buy something of value for it. There is no net gain in this scenario.
394  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russell Brand Throws A Hissy Fit After Being Asked About The Price Of His Home on: December 10, 2014, 08:42:32 PM
I think Russell Brand comes off as a little off putting and I never really liked him but in this instance I'd have to give it to him. He kinda has a point in the video. He doesn't have to come out there and speak on behalf of those that were struggling to get housing. It was his choice to speak. He could've just done what every other celebrity does on their off-day--smoke cigars, do blow, whatever they do. I think the reporter was just trying to get a rise outta him but he handled it pretty well imo.
395  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Greatest story never told on: December 10, 2014, 08:38:19 PM
This reminded me of that one Clint Eastwood movie--Letters from Iwo Jima. It tells the story of WWII from the Japanese perspective. Sure the Japanese did some really fucked up things in that war. Google Unit 731 medical experiments Japan and you will see what I'm talking about. Anyway, the movie humanizes the fact that there were people there that didn't want to be there and you can kind of take that perspective. It's a great movie, I think everyone should have a watch.
396  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World War III on: December 10, 2014, 08:33:32 PM
World War 3 is inevitable in my opinion when the U.S. ceases to be the great superpower it is today. This will happen sometime in the future and a country like China has the capability to take on the U.S. at some point. The war will most likely be fought over a small country and a domino effect will occur when its allies will go to arms to defend it. Nuclear weaponry the likes of anything ever seen before will be used. It will be an apocalypse scenario of the worst kind. It's actually pretty fucking terrifying to think about.
397  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people hate islam? on: December 10, 2014, 09:05:27 AM
The criticism anyone points to Islam can pretty much paint a picture of any of the other major religions in existence right now. The problem with Islam is that it's been in the public spotlight for the longest amount of time now. A very negative spotlight. Sure there are Christian religious nuts like the Westboro Baptist crazies, but the most damage they've done is protest a gay dead person's funeral. The most damage people did that were connected with Islam was engage in a terrorist attack that killed nearly 4,000 people. The world isn't going to forget this that quickly.
398  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wait.... what's wrong with "Obamacare"? on: December 10, 2014, 09:00:58 AM
The majority of people who oppose Obamacare also known as the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" don't even have a clue how it works.  The new guideline basically aims to make health care more affordable for everyone. It's not exactly a free handout. The tax increase of .009% only applies if you make more than $200,000 so you can imagine who is voicing their protests for it and brainwashing the masses who don't make anywhere near that to do the same.
399  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Americans Getting Poorer on: December 10, 2014, 08:52:40 AM
What's even more perplexing is that traditional "rich states" in the U.S. and the poor demographic vote for the Democrats while the "poor states" and the rich vote overwhelmingly Republican. The rich white Southerners are amongst the most conservative in the nation, casting their vote on anything that will protect their financial interests. Northerners generally vote split 50/50 between democrats and republicans.
400  Other / Politics & Society / Cops immediately shot a 12 year old holding a toy gun without warning. on: November 27, 2014, 01:04:12 PM
Ohio is actually an open carry state so this case will be interesting. Did the cop know Ohio was open carry or was he just massively incompetent? In an open carry state I'd imagine they first try and give the suspect a chance to surrender or put down their weapon. This 12 year old kid didn't stand a chance. He was just shot in the head right then and there.

Warning: video is pretty brutal to watch
