Cool.  Not to offend the scam sites but those renders have more info than most of their sites.  NO PREORDERS HERE!  Cheesy  Nice work!  It does help to sketch it out and not just keep it in your head.

This thread is over a year old...
Yes but still relevant. Cheesy

Those are and have been the best choice but shipping cost was always steep.

I think most initial companies producing miners were forum members before asics arrived.  Back then was more of a hobby with potential.  But yes very pleasing to have open dialect with someone who starts at ground level.

Oct. 7th, 2015.  But hopefully sooner!

I know copper is expensive now but aluminum retains heat for too long.  I'm sure you could reduce the heatsink size by using a utilizing a more efficient copper heatsink.  Copper may have the same properties but there must be something other than aluminum.  Could you have rear pull fans and  fans on the heatsink pulling of it's heat directly?  That would limit how many boards you could place in the case but it would be quieter and possibly allow for more dense placement of chips on each board.

I like the 4U case, plenty of possibilities with cooling ala S2 and a controller like the S4 would be nice.  Massive heatsinks seem to be popular and cheaper but new cooling needs to be developed.  Companies should stick to a standard case and board setup, it saves them money and us to just ship new boards.  Saves us from ditching rigs altogether.

I believe it will be powered by their new psu and will run around 6 Th at 1400w.  If not the S7 the S7+ or S8.  But eventually we will see another rack mount monstrosity.   Roll Eyes
389  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: August 23, 2015, 04:30:46 AM
Here is my dryer receptacle and plug, I believe these are US standard.

I was looking at this Pdu from CL which I can get for $25:

http://www.amazon.com/Compaq-Power-Distribution-Voltage-NA-only/dp/B0007RAOX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440215910&sr=8-1&keywords=compaq+pdu

It's 16 amp max.  My question is it comes with the twist-lock plug is there an adapter so I don't have to change receptacles?  This is temporary just to test this S4.  The pdu's all come with a different style plug as well, do I need a special cord from psu to pdu?

Edit:  Found some of my answers.  I have an older house so I have 3 prong 220v outlet for my dryer after 2000 all homes were wired with 4 prong outlets per standard.  Found adapters from psu to pdu (C13 to C14) and a 3 prong to 3 prong twist-lock adapter, which most pdu's seem to have.  But what I need to know most is does a 220v pdu output in 220v or is it 120v?  My APW3-12-1600 only runs on 205-240v.  Any help would be appreciated.

I can't say for sure all PDU's do it.  But yes a 240/220 PDU putting out 220/240 is kinda the point.  You want access to a lot of power.

How many of these do you plan on running?  If multiple you might see how many amp your breaker is putting out to the PDU.  I know when I put my 240 in I specifically went with 30 amp breaker to get a good amount of electricity through it.

It's a 30 amp breaker and this is temporary just so I can test this Bitmain psu.  I will get the pdu off of CL and the adapters needed and try it in a day or two.

I was going to make one into a necklace but can't bring myself to drilling into it. Cheesy  But yes, put them on Ebay someone will buy them.

Well received the APW3-12-1600 in exchange for a non-working replacement they first sent. It is long, don't think for a minute of bolting it to the case.

Mine was sent from Denver and had the ring terminal connectors already installed - Thanks Yoshi!

Originally thought of mounting it on top and placing a bracket underneath but as you see
it fits so tightly in there that the ribbon cables have no room to run to the top hashing board.

I will just settle for now laying it in sideways and having it hang 2" past the case.
note:  The mounting holes on the psu in no way match the case.

Question?  The psu came with no cord.  I'm no voltage expert but wondered what cord do I need to plug this
into my dryer outlet or adapter (220v).  (I know not to run both at the same time) but for testing.  The psu itself takes
the similiar type size as any psu but are there differences I should know about?
394  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 21, 2015, 06:15:23 PM
Wouldnt it be nice to have some kind of standard in the BITMAIN world?
I'm thinking of just changing the blades and the firmware to upgrade an S5 to an S7. It would reduce the prices a bit (lets say 10-15%, its shipping costs, VAT ..) and it would also kinda bond the customer to the company as well.

This was discussed a while ago in design, and the conclusion was that its not actually that desirable for the same reason that S2 upgrade kits never appeared. By the time the next generation appears, the previous generation is still mining away perfectly happily and so you can't immediately replace those hashing boards.

Ie if the S5 was modular to the S7, you'd still buy a full S7 because any S5s you had would still be fine to run for the foreseeable future. No one would scrap their S5, they'd simply run both or sell the S5.
So did you know for sure about the S2 uprade kits not being produced and held back a response?  They only failed do to Bitmain not following through on not one but both announcements.  It's a shame to let a good case and design that's accomodating and easily upgradeable die.

It will definately be $150+ and just a novelty item.  Cool nonetheless, but eventually they won't find a market and they will be given away with coupons. Cheesy
396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 20, 2015, 03:41:35 AM
I see a lot of guesses of the release of the S7 but don't recall any about possible hashrate of it.  I can run the numbers too but I'm sure someone has some insight on what will be released.  In the past they only release one type of miner at a time, but they would benefit greatly in sales if they could manage two different models at launch.  It would be cool to have a 1th unit and a 5+th unit.

Nice.  Always love your showcase Red velvet layout.  How are these on heat and do they have the S5 (screaming like a banshee) fans?
398  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: BITMAIN WHERE ARE YOU?!?! on: August 19, 2015, 06:20:31 PM
With the announcement of the new Bitmain BM1385 chips it could be possible for some upgraded boards for the S2.  Depends on what interface the new boards take.  I thought I heard them comment they would like to get back to the pci-e backplane.

Congrats!  Since your staying on the 28nm process can we expect reasonable prices?
Hope your close to delivery, the end of this year could be a battleground again with actual products.

When you do install it in the S4 could you post a pic.?  Interested in seeing how well it bolts up to the case.

Edit: I receive mine on friday and will post pics of it and how it fits in the S4 case this weekend.
I may make a faceplate to help it mount to the case in the coming week.
