overbid you. very leet bid btw edit btw: did anyone notice its with escrow? i mean, how is that gonna work? deadlock anyone? Are you THE fornit of RoidRechner fame? two minutes ago,i didnt even know what roidrechner was. but since the name is from a stephen king short story it is not that unlikely to have another one out there ontopic: i dont think bitmit will go away. its already picking up pace and will certainly find a buyer that can see the potential and has the resources to guarantee a smooth transition to another legislation. germany is really not the country for financial experiments. way too regulated.

I think it will have the biggest impact mid-term-wise, since roughly 10k new people are exposed to bitcoin through this and many will stick with it once they tried it out to conduct their daily rune scape trades. If infinity poker however really would take off that of course would top any other bitcoin application currently in the making, even more I think then if Kim Dotcom would make BTC the only payment for his new services. After all some famous Canadian poker guy is signed up for it and not much competition is around atm to raise the barriers of entry to this market.
I disagree. I consider various other projects much more valuable. As the long delay in releasing them makes me feel like I fell for a cheap pump and dump, I don't feel too comfortable even naming them. Too much pump and dump in bitcoin mmoexchange could have a big impact even though they dont have hundreds of thousands of users. basically, i consider two scenarios where bitcoin is "here to stay". one being used by a large number of people in general, the other becoming the de facto standard way of payment in a specific niche market. game item and currency trading is big enough to be such a niche and bitcoin is a very fitting match for these transactions. mmoexchange could be a first big step in that market.

This is actually potential to be really huge. Their wiki page for Bitcoin is actually really good as well.
I wonder whats gonna have the greater mid term effect: - torrentleach.org accepts bitcoin - infinity poker accepts bitcoin only for gringos - ogrr.com/mmoexchange.net merger - torrentleech with likely have big effect, since they give a massive bitcoin discount, so these 500k users have a lot of incentive to try bitcoin. - infinity poker might well be vaporware. getting a pokersite rolling needs massive amounts of users aka ads aka money - ogrr/mmoexchange: whatever happened to that one? ogrr seems dead and mmoexchange didnt announce anything relating to bitcoin

with 0.5gb blocks, the blockchain will grow by 25tb every year. thats 75 million 5 1/4 floppy disks, more than even the most modern c64s can handle. therefore, bitcoin is doomed to fail.

every sense of security or danger is "false" unless you actually know the exact threats you are (still) exposed to. thats something a layman will never have so whats the point of being paranoid? Then they must be cautious of running anything that have .exe extension. Back in year 2001 I was asked to install Winamp because people were afraid from running Setup.exe because they would not know what will happen and it might break something. Now every retard runs exe files between relapses from epileptic coma. you know how many people die in car accidents? or cleaning their guns? you know exactly what your food or your shampoo contains? if you apply the same strict standards to everything else, 99% of the population shouldnt be allowed to get out of bed in the morning.

every sense of security or danger is "false" unless you actually know the exact threats you are (still) exposed to. thats something a layman will never have. so whats the point of being paranoid? wasting your time protecting yourself from nonexistent threats is no better than wasting your time recovering from existing threats. so assess how much you could lose and decide if becoming an expert is worth the time. otherwise just go with the reasonable standard security.

that being said, there is a lot of "simple" malware around. you can just modify any existing malware to search© wallet.dat in a minute. plus now you have a chance to find the malware before you make your next transaction.
the security for non-geeks has already increased considerably. offline wallets with armory are not that hard to setup either, if you really need the extra security. if you compare that to the situation in early 2011, its already vastly improved. of course, its not perfect. but security for non-experts will always be far from perfect.

right now, even a non-expert can secure his bitcoins with bitcoin-qt in a way that only a specialized malware or someone with direct access to the computer can aquire your bitcoins, and even then only if you transfer bitcoins in the time frame the computer is compromised.
for comparison, with versions up to 0.3.x any person or program that could copy wallet.dat had your bitcoins. there was no way to secure your bitcoins and run the client at the same time at all. plus for backups you needed to know the location of the wallet.dat and encrypt the backup manually.
