The "choose your wallets" page is too wide.

I tagged him.
3963  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 11:24:38 PM
I don't want to use any post count limits because they'll incentivize people to post garbage.
3964  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 11:10:50 PM
would the arbitrator only decide about the scammer tag?

That's what I was thinking, though they could also escrow.

Quote
We had quite a few legitimately reputable members turn scammers, how could we trust arbitrators?

"We" wouldn't need to. The traders themselves would decide who to trust.
3965  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 10:53:30 PM
Another good solution would be to force everyone to agree on an arbitrator with their trading partner before trading. Then whenever someone claims that they were scammed, the arbitrator would decide who gets a scammer tag. I'm not sure if I could easily force everyone to do this, though, since transactions are almost always finalized via PMs.
3966  Other / Meta / Re: Self-moderated topics on: March 15, 2013, 05:37:23 PM
What I'll probably do is have PMs be automatically sent to people who get their posts deleted.

Does deleting someone's post remove the thread from the watchlist?

No.
3967  Other / Meta / Re: This forum is infested with scammers on: March 15, 2013, 05:31:48 PM
Edit: Actually you know what, in the end I agree with you, we should just remove the scammer tag system. People depend on it too much and use it as justification to be dumb assholes and send money to anonymous people on the internet (who couldn't possibly be lying), then blame the forum for their dumb asshole mistakes so they don't have to admit they're a dumb asshole.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that lately. I've been getting really sick of dealing with scammer cases. It probably takes up a third of my admin time, and despite being nearly useless, it's always controversial.

However, I don't know that I can just let truly obvious scammers go without scammer tags. They'd become 1000-post VIP members and rip naïve newbies apart. And I can't give scammer tags to some obvious scammers and not others. We probably need to replace scammer tags with a web of trust rating system.
3968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] BitSafe Hardware Wallet Now Shipping on: March 14, 2013, 09:18:43 PM
This is a wonderful idea. I've wanted something like this for a long time.

Does the device store transaction data, or does it just look at transactions given to it by the PC to determine how many bitcoins the transaction is sending?
3969  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Month old transactions now unconfirmed upon upgrading from 0.6x to 0.8 on: March 14, 2013, 03:11:42 PM
That also happened to a few extremely old transactions of mine when I upgraded. Run Bitcoin with the -rescan switch to fix it.
3970  Other / Meta / Re: Self-moderated topics on: March 14, 2013, 06:27:55 AM
Goat is lying too?

Goat is, like you, assuming that what he read is true without verifying it. Notice that this thread is also self-moderated, yet you can't delete posts here.
3971  Other / Meta / Re: Self-moderated topics on: March 14, 2013, 06:17:53 AM
I believe that Phinnaeus Gage is lying, unless others can confirm.
3972  Other / Meta / Re: Self-moderated topics on: March 14, 2013, 06:09:28 AM
will users see when posts are deleted?

No. I might add that later, but it's not a trivial change.

Self-moderated topics? Can you say what boards this applies too? This is going to be bad if it is on certain boards, cause some people can edit threads to benefit them, I really hope it is just the off-topic board.

The excluded sections are Meta (except for this topic), Scam Accusations, Important Announcements, and Auctions. Tagged scammers can't use this feature. You don't have to participate in self-moderated topics if you're worried about manipulation by the OP.
3973  Other / Meta / Re: Gmail spam-blocking forum mail? on: March 14, 2013, 04:49:22 AM
Will the forum's non-spam reputation increase over time, you think?

I'm on PIA's vpn and sometimes get the Google spam captcha. It seems to depend being on two or three different IP blocks. bitcointalk.org is hosted by PIA so Google is probably  marking mail connecting from some of PIA's IP blocks as spam.

That's possible. We're hosted by nforce.nl. PIA has many servers there, though nforce.nl also has other customers.
3974  Other / Meta / Gmail spam-blocking forum mail? on: March 14, 2013, 03:27:43 AM
Since the server switch, I've gotten several reports from Gmail users that the forum's email is being identified as spam. Does this happen to all Gmail users? Is there any diagnostic info you can get to see why the forum's email is detected as spam? I would have expected email to look less spammy after the server switch because the reverse DNS is now correct.

Also, who receives emails with this repeated twice at the bottom?

3975  Other / Meta / Re: Self-moderated topics on: March 14, 2013, 02:32:07 AM
This is just going to increase forum clutter and encourage twenty threads on the same topic.

That's a separate problem that's not properly solved by trying to limit the number of topics.
3976  Other / Meta / Re: Japanese? on: March 14, 2013, 01:54:44 AM
There aren't very many Japanese users AFAIK.
3977  Other / Meta / Self-moderated topics on: March 14, 2013, 01:52:59 AM
In most sections, you now have the option of marking topics self-moderated when creating them. In self-moderated topics, the OP can delete replies. The option for enabling this is under "additional options". Topics cannot be converted to self-moderated topics after creation.

There are no rules to self-moderation. In self-moderated threads, replies belong to the OP. In other threads, replies belong to the respondents individually. Think carefully about whether you want to reply to a self-moderated topic, as your post may not be given due respect.

Tell me if there are any bugs. If this ends up not working out well, I might remove it.
3978  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [POLL] Bitbond (amazingrando) on: March 13, 2013, 04:51:40 PM
Did he actually lose that much money in the GLBSE shutdown? I thought that everyone with any significant amount of money in GLBSE got most of it back now.

Also, did he actually pay 85% of investors?
3979  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on this forum - Round 74 on: March 13, 2013, 04:43:30 PM
In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Ads are allowed to contain any non-annoying HTML/CSS style. No images, JavaScript, or animation (no marquee or blinking). Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser. Ads will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may not link directly to any NSFW page. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Seven of the slots are for sale here. Ads appear only on topic pages with more than one post, and only for people using the default theme.

The ad lasts 7 days starting from when I put it up.

Stats

Exact historical impression counts per slot:
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats

Info about the current ad slots:

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all eight slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 8 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 8 slots. If the two highest bids are 8 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 7 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

The notation "2 @ 5" means 2 slots for 5 BTC each. Not 2 slots for 5 BTC total.

- When you post a bid, the bids in your previous posts are considered to be automatically canceled. You can put multiple bids in one post, however.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.25.
- The bidding starts at 0.5.
- I will end the auction at an arbitrary time no more than 12 days from now. (I will probably end the auction 1-3 days before the ads are scheduled to go up.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If these rules are confusing, look at some of the past forum ad auctions to see how it's done. I also post periodic status updates which should help make things clear.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else.
