42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is that one reason that motivates you to invest in bitcoin even at ATH ? on: March 05, 2024, 12:56:54 PM
Bitcoin touched new ATH in 2024 of around $69000. There is fear in some investors that there can be a big correction from here. But, there are many investors who are still investing in bitcoin even if the prices are near ATH. What is your one primary reason to keep investing in BTC even at these levels.

I am doing this because I am positive with the ETF news. It is resulting in major adoption to users who were earlier reluctant to invest in bitcoins.
43  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who plays bigger role in crypto adoption: General public or government ? on: March 05, 2024, 12:52:48 PM
I think the general public have play good role than the government,  if their is a way the government can shut bitcoin down they would have done that even before now. The general public have no bad intentions against cryptocurrency because it is a big advantage to them. It is just of recent that the government is trying to brace cryptocurrency to see if it can be of benefit to the economy.  The general public has played a bigger role since the existence of cryptocurrency.
There are some concerns with the use of crypto like it being abused by bad people. But it can also be controlled. Most of the exchanges are moving to the route of KYC. It can be made stronger to eliminate frauds to lesser extent.

There are some countries which played it big on crypto and they were rewarded by it in different ways. It is an example and motivation for other countries as well.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the reason behind surge in price of verge ? on: March 05, 2024, 12:50:47 PM
Too good to be real that's what I can say, 60% increase within 24hours and you still can't smell something fishy but rather you called it a speculation. This is the time we get to see altcoins pumping up to deceive investors with the mindset of when bitcoin rise other altcoins will also rise. Although this is true but it's difficult to find a legit altcoin during this time when we're in the bull. You should never get too excited with the hype and that's what most investors are doing with this coin.

Now same thing is happening with mem coins. There are coins like pepe which became 4 times of their market cap in just seven days. There has been no major development supporting this. Lot of manipulation being done and every time it does not end well for majority of new investors. They enter at peak when whales dump the coins.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What is the reason behind surge in price of verge ? on: February 26, 2024, 09:40:41 AM
I saw that there is 60% increase in the price of verge coin in last 24 hours. When I searched this coin official handles, the Twitter handle has posts from last year. There is no development and still the coin is blowing up so fast. Are the altcoins now moving just on speculation ?
46  Other / Politics & Society / Who plays bigger role in crypto adoption: General public or government ? on: February 26, 2024, 09:37:08 AM
Who do you think plays a bigger role in crypto adoption ? Will it be common people like you and me . Or does the role is played by government because it is them making monetary policies. I feel people are more important because when it comes to electing the government, even there it is the majority of people which results in final decision.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How a $112 Million XRP Hack Shook the Crypto World! on: February 01, 2024, 01:32:40 PM
Lol, another proof that XRP is not worth our money. When a co-founder can't keep his coins safe - it means something.

No that does not mean XRP ecosystem is weak. And it can happen with anyone, it does not that mean that the person with whom this happens is a fool.
48  Other / Meta / Re: Should bitcointalk ban promotion of other forums? on: January 30, 2024, 05:26:40 PM
What is the opinion of members about this? Is it fine allowing members here to promote or mention competing forums without paying this forum owner or taking his permission  ?
it's fine, I mean I think even Theymos is fine about it, he mentioned that he tries to make the forum as free as possible(I assume that includes people advertising other forums). if you've been in the forum long enough you'll know come to find out that a forum called Cryptotalk.org that was owned by Yobit ran a signature campaign here.

The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible. Eg. banning bounties would undoubtedly reduce spam, but that'd be destroying an entire economy/population/culture which has been able to develop due to the forum's freedom. I am willing to take this sort of action, but only as an absolute last resort. It's always preferable to handle these problems by reshaping the environment to make them non-problems, rather than removing some freedom.

Yes, I know about cryptotalk.org. They failed to make any impact even after spending so much money paying users. Personally, I as a forum owner will never allow a competing forum to advertise on my forum though.
49  Other / Meta / Re: Should bitcointalk ban promotion of other forums? on: January 29, 2024, 04:41:16 PM
I have seen that this forum does not consider it inappropriate when some member makes a post or thread about a competing forum. I am a member of other popular forums and they do not allow mention of competing forums as it is free advertising for them.
This is concerning for everyone  Angry as without naming the forum you want us to reply. Please be specific, it would be easy to understand your query if you could name the forum in question and what led you to this topic. I haven't seen any other forum stopping anyone of discussing about Bitcointalk and I have not been in any scenario where our mods decided to stop us naming other forum.
It is not a crypto forum. It is a popular IM forum that has this rule.
What do you meam by IM? Instant messaging? Or something else. I am not that good with shorter form of any big name. Can you please elaborate as being in detailed can help us solve your problem.
IM refers to Internet marketing. Or in other words, make money online. One more thing, it is not my problem. I just gave a suggestion to forum owner. He may see this thread, the responses from members here and take some action if necessary.

52  Economy / Speculation / Was Bitcoin ETF really a good thing for growth of crypto and Bitcoin prices? on: January 29, 2024, 03:58:32 PM
I see a lot of threads here saying that now that Bitcoin ETFs are approved, it will boost the Bitcoin prices. However, that has not happened in last few days.

I researched more about it and came to know about this new point of view regarding this Bitcoin ETF. According to this point of view, Bitcoin  ETF has made Bitcoin mainstream. It has become something like regulated and as a result the premium effect is gone. Because of this, there will not be that much volatility in prices now and thus the returns it gave in past are now not possible. Do you agree with this point to view?

Here is a link discussing the same thing

53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaurd yourself this year against crypto scams on: January 29, 2024, 02:20:41 PM
It's a new year again and we all know what lies in wait, scammers are thinking of more innovative ways to decive and pollute the crypto community again and the one I hate the most are these wannabes that come and taint our fav coin image by creating not just inferiors but empty coins. They come I form of rug pulls, pump and dump all trying to scam crypto users who are ill informed. Not to long from now one new Influencer would start promoting a new rugpull, pls let none of us fall for such silly tricks anymore we are way past that already.

But any way let me remind you of how you can quickly save yourself from falling into these malicious snares.

👉get rid of your get rich quick mentality : I know a lot of persons would be expecting me to say read their whitepaper, but like I said this guys are getting more smart and making a good whitepaper with excellent road map and all would not be a problem to them. But thign I know they can't change so easily is their offers, they would always work on your greed, trying to entice you with silly offers that are so good to be true. I'm crying 😢 right now cause I also wished they were true, but sorry they aren't and don't fall to such this year.

👉 track their anonymously: so far I've noticed that most scams don't project any team members to the public and if they do they are mostly fake and this way could be very effective than reading a whole whitepaper. Check if the project has any real life representative and follow them up and see if they are posting in line with their big project in hand. Why i feel this is a good idea is because they are still afraid of the government too.

👉 yeah and  finally stop listening to influencers: many persons that have fallen for scam was found following one influencer or the other. Just know this people don't have you in mind and would promote any shit to get paid. Always do your own investigations if you must invest in any new project.

👉only invest in bitcoin 😎:  by know we all know that bitcoin is the only reliable crypto right now. And I have history to prove that, to me every other  project is not decentralized as they claim to be because they still have a kind of supervisory body even tho they claim not to, people did fund those projects remember and they would want something, nothing is free, no altcoin is completely decentralized.

Whole bitcoin on the other hand is developed by the bitcoin community and even the creator has no hand in it again . Now there is something we can trust.

Stay safe yall. No scam getting us this year

If you could add pls do we have everyon3 at heart ❤ 💙

You are right about the influencers. Most of the influencers lie about the returns and scope of crypto to sell related services. These type of over promises are so much sugar coated that new investors easily fall prey to this. Government should have strict laws punishing these kind of influencers.

Also, there should be more awareness from investor point of view. If an investor is aware, no one can make him fool. He will remain financially sound and make better financial decisions.
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin transaction time reduce in future? on: January 28, 2024, 04:32:35 PM
I think Bitcoin's transaction fee will probably be low again when it returns to the bear market. But in this case or currently, it is unclear that the fees have decreased, especially recently when the bitcoin fee's reached 12–13 dollars when I checked my account in my Electrum wallet, but I did not continue because the fee was high.

Especially with the approaching halving or bull run, it might increase even more, but I hope not; it's too painful to be honest, especially for bitcoin holders.

It's going to get worse by the next block reward halving. These high fees prevent people with low income from using the BTC blockchain for daily payments. Even if they want to use the LN for faster and cheaper transactions, they'd still need to pay the high on-chain fee to open or close a channel. The only viable solution would be to use an altcoin with low network congestion.

BTC Core devs better increase on-chain TX capacity before it's too late. Otherwise, Bitcoin would become a settlement layer for the wealthy (mainly whales and big exchanges). Hopefully, fees will decline after the hype. As long as Bitcoin stays decentralized, nothing else matters. Smiley

Will it reduce the demand and thus the price per Bitcoin as less people want to have Bitcoin  for payments because of high fees?
55  Other / Meta / Why is this forum on SMF? on: December 29, 2023, 05:46:07 PM
Recently I installed a forum for testing. I used phpbb on it but later I realised that it has a big demerit that the URL it gives does not contain the content of title of thread. I checked this forum and here also the issue is same. Was this not taken into consideration while choosing forum software ? Or does it not matter much? Are there some special benefits of SMF over other popular forum softwares like xenforo or vbulletin?
56  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What one change to Bitcoin can make it's adoption faster? on: November 27, 2023, 03:36:47 PM
We should come up with practical ideas instead of just thinking aimlessly.
There have been many ways to promote Bitcoin, this one of the way.

With the current technology, no one can't search and learn about Bitcoin. There are many promotions about centralized exchanges, crypto casino or shitcoins, although it's not 100% promotion to Bitcoin, but they've know if Bitcoin is in there.

Bitcoin is known used to fight against the centralization and most people still think Bitcoin is only for rich, so it's really dangerous for Average Joe to promote Bitcoin.

What percent of poor people are currently using Bitcoin according to you?
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin transaction time reduce in future? on: November 27, 2023, 03:35:26 PM
Currently it takes 1-3 hours for a transaction to complete if we do it with less fee? Is it possible in future that this transaction time will reduce or may be even become instant? Like when all Bitcoins are  mined and there are mainly holders instead of traders and volume of transactions decline.

If we don't change the protocol, the average time between 2 blocks will allways be ~10 minutes. So, even when most of the blocks are (allmost) empty, the average CONFIRMATION time will always be ~5 minutes.

AFAIK, the mempool has been flooded with ordinal transactions for quite a while now. I had hoped this was a fad that would have been long gone by now, but they keep broadcasting transactions... If they'd stop, and people would make less than 1 Mb of transactions per 10 minutes (excluding the witness data), you'd be able to send 1 sat/vbyte transactions once again and get them confirmed after an average time of ~5 minutes (after the backlog has cleared offcourse).

By the way, transactions are broadcasted allmost instantly... They remain in the mempool of the nodes untill they end up in a block, it's this process that takes very long ATM.

If you want cheaper fees, or faster confirmations, you should either look at altcoins, sidechains and/or offchain sollutions.
Who has the authority to change the protocol?
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What one change to Bitcoin can make it's adoption faster? on: November 27, 2023, 06:53:48 AM
Nothing is perfect and Bitcoin is no exception. Let us discuss in this thread that one change which can increase the adoption of Bitcoin further at a rapid rate.

60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if there was only one cryptocurrency, which is Bitcoin? on: November 25, 2023, 06:24:25 AM
If this was the case, Bitcoin  current price would have been 10 times higher. Because all the money would have flown only to Bitcoin and thus the market cap would have been higher.
