41  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New UK Law Empowers Authorities to Seize, Freeze, Destroy Crypto on: May 18, 2024, 08:57:18 AM
I don't think that they're practicing monarchy seriously though, if I recall correctly, they're just the same as the Emperor in Japan, a decoration, a tourist attraction that don't have any holdover the politics of the country, most of the things that I think that's serving the monarchy is probably for formalities or I'm completely wrong on this one? That would really suck if you don't really own anything, probably the most backwards policy out there in my opinion, that's just communism with king and queen but much more evil since it's not the state or the people that owns the property, it's the few rich hags and goblins that are keeping an incestuous bloodline, in fact, I think it's much more evil than that of communism. I guess some crypto people in the UK are having some plans to leave the country to get out of that stupid system that they call a country?

They don’t practice it too often because they are afraid of getting a riot but they definitely do when they need to. I gave you an example too. Right to own a property is a joke in the UK. They can seize your assets whenever they want.

There are still elites and nobles in most EU countries. They own the land and then they long-term rent it to the plebs. The plebs think they own the land or the real estate. In reality they only own the right to use that property for a limited time. (Could be anything from a year to 100 years) We call that feudalism and it is not over in Europe.

Write down the passwords/seeds, but not in cleartext. Encrypt them using some simple rule, reordering or substituting the words with other words. Don't write down the simple encryption rule, but remember it.

Lots of people lost their coins that way because they forgot the encryption or the word order they used. Not so long ago I’ve read a post from an user (maybe it was on reddit, can’t remember) and he knew all of his seed words but he messed up their order and now he can’t access his coins anymore. If you are going to rely on your memory, you better have a damn good memory or you’ll say goodbye to your funds.

I’d rather write down my seed words very clearly but only replace one word with another fake word and put a sign on that word so I’ll remember which word I’ll be replacing every time I need to use my seed words. This way I need to remember only one word instead of many other crap.

I still need to secure my seed words but even if somebody gets the paper, he won’t get my funds.

Why many of you, guys, are saying that TheQuin has disappeared or something? He was here yesterday, May 16, 2024, 02:56:17 AM. Just check his profile.

Also, whats wrong with FreeBitco.in, apart from several spammers whining in this thread for no reason? Or maybe they have a reason? Maybe they are paid to slander this reputable site?

As far as I know the site is doing OK. Someone won a Lambo recently on this very site, FFS!
What did I miss?

You missed a lot apparently. A few people were scammed because somebody found a way to inject a malicious script to the frontend of the app. People lost money and one of the victims is a wellknown legendary account.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5495097.0

I don’t know what really happened because we didn’t get an explanation from theQuin. He made 1-2 posts in the last 2-3 months and even though he is logging in he is not saying a word.

I didn’t get hacked or lost money but multiple people claim they did.

Some people don’t even care about the money they have lost anymore probably. They only want to hear an explanation and know if the website is still safe to use.
44  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Turkey Prepares New Crypto Law to Align With International Standards on: May 17, 2024, 03:44:01 AM
Somehow I feel like we were in a better position when there were no regulations for crypto. Nowadays whenever I hear about a new regulation, it usually means it is going to be harder to use/trade crypto or you will pay more taxes.

I decided to use my crypto coins without using an exchange or any other business which is strictly regulated by the government because of that. I’ll either use giftcard sellers like bitrefill or other business (like namecheap) that accept crypto directly, or I will just make p2p trades.

These centralized exchanges will and should suffer from these regulations. It is time for everyone to move their business to a real decentralized exchange, bisq. Let’s see what the gov can do about that.
45  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New UK Law Empowers Authorities to Seize, Freeze, Destroy Crypto on: May 16, 2024, 05:18:37 PM
ok but what's with wanting to destroy privacy coins? confiscate them from people and then burn them. that's just kind of like throwing money away.

If they confiscate them and use it in some way, that would mean they acknowledge that asset's superiority. They'll rather choose to ban/destroy it.

They didn't do this to bitcoin because they think they can control bitcoin.

We will experience what they'll do to something they cannot control and it is this. Destroy.
46  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 📝[Discussion topic] Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns📝 on: May 16, 2024, 05:14:18 PM
BestChange is an old campaign that has been popular on this forum, but here I am just a little curious instead of asking in the thread directly here, maybe it can be more relevant.

BestChange said that they will continue marketing to new areas, can you guess where? I mean which other forums will be targeted by BestChange, is it a local forum or other global forums such as forums about bitcoin and others?

Or the Altcoinstalks forum? I don't think this is possible. Lol
Honestly, the Bitcointalk numbers have been going on a downtrend in terms of traffic and engagement for the past few months, especially after that mixer ban. People have moved onto other forums, while others just decided to log out.
I have been observing it lately. Boards that used to be active now have just 2–3 posts a day
Maybe some brands have noticed the decline in the impressions and decided to move elsewhere as well.
Bitcointalk is a tiny bit of where brands can advertise, there are social media platforms like Twitter, reddit, facebook, Exchange and casino review sites etc

I feel the same. The forum looks like a ghost of its former self. People don't even care enough to post spam anymore, it is that bad. Few years ago, the forum was like Times Square of the internet and now it is a desert in Africa. The worst part of all this, there really isn't something to talk about.

No new tech, no news...

Crypto heros like Roger Ver and CZ are getting arrested, FTX did this, Sam Bankman did that, somemixer service was taken down and that's it.

People used to think something to solve bitcoin's high fee problem and nobody even cares about that anymore. Bitcoin is expensive? Meh, use something else. Tongue
47  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New UK Law Empowers Authorities to Seize, Freeze, Destroy Crypto on: May 16, 2024, 03:53:40 AM
It is not surprising. The UK is a monarchy.

According to the law,  the King (or Queen) owns the country ultimately. If the gov, the king, whoever is in charge there decide that they own your stuff and you don’t own that stuff anymore, it is not against the law.

So crypto naturally falls into the same category of assets which they can seize. They did it many times before. Remember how they seized Chelsea FC from Roman Abramovich.

In the UK you can own stuff as long as they let you own it. Don’t make a mistake, it is not really much different in the other parts of the world.

You just don’t fuck with tptb.

The guys that last in this business, are the guys who fly straight. Low-key, quiet. But the guys who want it all, chicas, champagne, flash... They don't last.

Wise words from Frank Lopez.

These names wanted fame, champagne, chicas and flash and lambos and shiet. Now they can’t fly straight anymore. They ain’t lasting. Remember how they took Tony Montana down. Tony wasn’t a wise guy. He was greedy and stupid.

Satoshi on the other hand. He was low-key quiet. He never went off-balance. That’s how you should be doing it.

Most crypto rich people wanted to show off, wanted to be famous and now they are paying the price for their stupidity.
49  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: People are interesting talking more about their success stories. on: May 15, 2024, 06:17:18 PM
I see more of success stories of bitcoin, like how people invest bitcoin for their parents,  uncles,  and themselves to make fine profit. These stories are very interesting one and good to listen of what bitcoin has done for people but it makes me wonder if people don't have stories of failure about bitcoin. In the real life I see people who talk about their failed investment because of not having the right knowledge.  But here everyone talks about success stories and it makes me wonder if people are shy to talk about their failures, it can also help other people to learn. Learning is not just about from successful investment.

People are not eager to tell their failures because it makes them look stupid and almost nobody wants to look stupid unless they are on youtube where acting/being stupid is rewarded with lots of money. If you want to listen to the failures of people, you should probably go there. In this forum there is no real incentive to tell such stories and that's a good thing because if you somehow read a failure story in this forum, you can be sure that it is genuine unlike the fake youtube stories which people make up to attract hits.
50  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 15, 2024, 05:38:33 PM
Let's say someone come up with a decentralized forum software where no authority can touch. That's pretty much what darkweb is. Every type of filth will leak from a place like that. Let's face it, decentralization is not always the perfect solution. It is because we are trying to solve the wrong problem. The problem isn't the forum software we use. We are the problem. By "we" I mean everybody. It is because we can't stand to live in a perfect world.

Just like how the Architect described it in the movie, the Matrix.

He created a world with imperfections and only then his simulation worked to some degree. Every other perfect world simulation has failed instantly. We can't be happy if everybody's happy. We are feeding on other people's misery. That's also the reason why capitalism prevailed.

In a world where everybody's driving a lambo, what's the point of driving a lambo?
51  Economy / Economics / Re: If you want to be wealthy you need action on: May 14, 2024, 07:15:58 PM
You know what they say... "you can't make money unless you spend money"

You won't find a girlfriend unless you talk to girls.

You can't win the lottery unless you buy a ticket first.

Action > Reaction

Cause > Effect

If you want to be wealthy, you need to do what's necessary to be wealthy and it is a combination of many things. Being smart, educated and some capital is needed to start things but these features don't mean anything unless you use them effectively. Many smart people die poor because they either lack the capital or education or the desire to get rich.

Search "gambler's fallacy" on google.

Quote
The gambler's fallacy, also known as the Monte Carlo fallacy or the fallacy of the maturity of chances, is the belief that, if an event has occurred more frequently than expected, it is less likely to happen again in the future.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy

That's pretty much what you are doing.

You think just because those coins went down a lot, they can't go down more from there but, they really can.

Let's say we are playing coin flip and we had 100 heads in a row. What are the chances of getting another heads in the next turn? 50%.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto's Hidden Benefits. on: May 14, 2024, 06:14:01 PM
I’ve been thinking about how cryptocurrency exchanges often give extra benefits when you put in a lot of money. This is different from traditional banks, where you usually don't get much in return. Crypto platforms offer rewards for things like depositing and holding onto your coins.

It makes me wonder why some people are still hesitant to try cryptocurrencies. The fact that there are so many incentives available, like rewards for depositing and other perks, shows that crypto can be a good option. It makes me think about why some people are skeptical and how the world of finance and technology is changing.what are your thoughts on this please do share?

Most people don't like to try new stuff unless they really have to. These people won't use crypto even if you give them some free coins. They'll just lose those coins. It happened many times in the past. Some of those lost coins are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars now. Of course they are not happy now since they've lost a fortune but they also refuse to change their behavior. Some people can't be helped. We all gonna do what we all gonna do as the architect says. Crypto is not the only play in the world too. If a person thinks he is more successful at trading bonds or stocks, he might think that crypto is an unnecessary adventure for him.
54  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: There is no crypto version of Cloudflare? on: May 13, 2024, 06:53:27 PM
So I'm sure you all are very familiar with the two services Cloudflare and DDoS-Guard. These two services protect your server from incoming DDoS traffic that will disrupt your operations. It is true that the service plans for these websites that actually provide this functionality are quite pricey, but they both only take card payments.

I know quite a few crypto websites that would benefit from this kind of service if only they could pay in cryptocurrency.

Cloudflare don't even have many FIAT alternatives. (AWS is the only legit alternative probably) I was searching  one and I came across to these comments:

The value of CloudFlare comes from its network, not the software they run. You can hack together a caching reverse proxy (intentionally oversimplified) pretty easily, but it won't be "CloudFlare".

this is, as the kids say, a *MOAT*. you could leak the entire source of cloudflare and cloudflare's value would be unaffected.

Pretty much what they said.

Cloudflare is kind of what you call: "a monopoly".

It is not like some start-up that accepts crypto will be as big as cloudflare anytime soon. If that happens in the future for some reason, cloudflare won't exist that day.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will blockchain survive the crackdown on mixers and anonymization? on: May 13, 2024, 06:38:27 PM
That's why they are cracking down mixers and other privacy services: they are central points that can be shutdown easily.  What actions have governments taken against Monero?  Despite being infinitely superior to any mixer, it continues to operate smoothly.  Here's a hint: Monero operates in a decentralized manner.

It doesn't matter in the end. Monero will never get adopted as widely as any other semi-anonymous crypto as long as the exchanges keep delisting it. Only a few people will be using it and its trading volume will tank. That's as good as being dead for a crypto currency.

In the real world the gov know everything about any of the citizens. That will happen in the virutal world too and nobody's strong enough to fight that. Monero will survive the way torrent trackers survived... on life support.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FTX planning to payback customers, small account holders on the priority list on: May 13, 2024, 06:23:47 PM
Is this false hope just to get them to bail out maybe yes for the community who loses money on the downfall however after the payment has been made to users. I think they deserved especially Sam to be on Prison for this crime committed. Its not a small one and let thwm served them right so as other players wouldnt try to do the same.

"If you steal $1000 from a bank, that's your problem. If you steal $100 million, that's the bank's problem."

The point of the story is: if you are going to be a fraudster as a career, be the best fraudster. That's exactly what Bankman Fraud did. He scammed so many people, with all that money he acquired, he could bribe every politician and judge that would move against him.

Samuel Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, 32, of Stanford, California, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture for his orchestration of multiple fraudulent schemes.

Does this guy look like he is going to do 25 years in prison to you? Not to me.

He will get the same treatment as CZ. A slap on the wrist. "Don't do that again kiddo!"
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2024 Update: How long can Tether keep getting away with their huge scam? on: May 13, 2024, 05:47:11 PM
As long as the authorities allow bitfinex.

I thought  a lot about this in the past. Finally I came to a conclusion; tether/bitfinex is secretly supported by the government. Since the SEC ain't taking bitfinex down, then it means they are cool with the USDT scheme. That means they are indirectly supporting bitfinex. It is clear as day to me. USDT is just another government/central bank owned (unofficially) FIAT printer. Since they don't do it directly, they can blame bitfinex and when bitfinex goes down, the FED won't be held responsible.

It looks like the dude left the casino on autopilot and don't even care what happens to anyone. That itself is a reason to stay away from this casino for a while till somebody comes over and make a statement on what's going on. There must be something we don't know yet because it is so stupid to act like this when millions of dollars are on the stake. The casino will lose many players because of what happened lately. There is only one possible reason to justify this lack of response: The police are keeping the owners busy. I can't find any other explanation.
59  Other / Meta / Re: Artificial Intelligence on the Forum on: May 12, 2024, 07:40:35 PM
i try to be as rude as possible in all my posts. no AI is rude so i'm sure no one will think i'm using it.

Most of the AI text generating tools I have tried can be "forced" (or rather persuaded) to use any expression style you want.  So, aiming for rudeness might not be the unique snowflake you think it is.  I think the content of your posts is much more important than the way you express it. Whether it is polite or rude makes no difference.

AI posts usually don't look genuine at all. If it is a long ass post and it is on a serious subject, written with a serious language, posted by a low ranking member; >90% that's a AI generated text. There are many posts like that nowadays and the posters are mostly newbies&jr members.

Sometimes I try some free AI tools on those texts and the AI tool says it is 100% written by a human and I can't believe it somewhat. I think they must have found a way to fool the AI detectors because I somehow don't think there are many genuine people out there who want to sign-up and write a long ass very detailed article on economics to educate us. Those must be spam.

Lightning will solve the issue of scalability but it is going to occur gradually.

Lightning can solve scalability but it is not a free solution. Decentralization is the price you pay. It costs serious money to open channels and most people won't even bother with it because it is not as simple as owning private keys. Lightning brings complexity and centralization to solve scalability. It used to look like a cool idea to me too but I rather prefer to use alts where I own my private keys lately because it is much convenient this way. There a few well established altcoins out there that are as well-known as btc itself. I can't be optimistic for LN's future somehow.
