what's this about LTC dying? i never had any, but i'm curious and clearly missed hearing about it failing.
42  Other / Off-topic / Re: Explain to me why you think you are more knowledgable about bitcoin than me on: December 07, 2019, 10:50:23 PM
I made 20,000 dollars trading it right in 2017

If that is your criteria for how "smart" you are about Bitcoin then even I'm "smarter" than you, and I can't even read code..
Many people here are a hundred times smarter than you, and if we assume an IQ high of like 200, your IQ would be about 2 compared to them according to this criteria..

god i don't even want to try and imagine my position on that scale. Cheesy

hi guys. back from the proverbial dead...

still ticking along like always i see.

Where ya been? If you are being literal how was Hades?

short version, life. nothing too major, just broke and barely employed for a few years. lost interest in the forum, among other things. moved, got a decent job that i'm actually kinda proud of again.

if you play games, seen the recent release a couple of weeks ago of the Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition? Cheesy i had a hand in it from the quality assurance side.

that and a guy i owe made me aware of how much signature campaigns can pay so... well... *gestures to sig space*

so... what you're saying is, you want the SEC to ban your access to any exchange that isn't in the US or at least following US law.

...that is not going to work out how you hope... the exchange would just ban anyone from the US and carry on.

and because of trading between different exchanges, even if you did trade on an american based, SEC governed exchange, the unregulated foreign ones would still be swinging crazily as usual, and people would be trading that money around, without the problem actually being solved at all.

hi guys. back from the proverbial dead...

still ticking along like always i see.

Welcome back. Still the same shitshow  Grin

insert various "mild shock" memes here.

i fear to tread anywhere near the politics and society section, knowing how BTC draws a... dramatic and wide variety of people and how.... volatile... times seem to be, in some ways.

i don't really have a way to prove i know more than you, especially since i've been absent from the forum here for years...

but based on a quick read of your last couple of very active threads here, i noticed a couple of things. you were upset about manipulation, specifically on Binance exchange, which by your own admission you think comes from china, and you were trying to get the US SEC involved, among others, to do something about it.

assuming i got that correct, here's the obvious problems that jump out:
SEC can't do anything about anyone outside the US, period, ever. they're a US governing body, governing things in the US. sure, binance maydo business in the US, but are they based there? is their HQ in the US? i am only vaguely familiar with them by name, so have no honest idea... but, more importantly, the traders who are DOING the manipulating via binance - they are, in your own opinion, in china, yes? well, what are american lawyers, federal investigators or SEC officials supposed to do about that? they have no authority or power there in any way. literally none, same as me walking into a bank in the US and saying "you are committing fraud, stop!" even if i could actually PROVE the bank was committing fraud with a mile-high stack fo incontrovertible math-based evidence from records that can't be altered, so what? i have no authority over that bank.

further, all bitcoin exchanges are unregulated, as far as i am aware. again, been out of touch a while, but i think this is still true. the transfer of funds in and out is regulated, very strictly, yes. but the trading? not at all. i think, and could be quite wrong, mind you, that similar buy and sell "walls" from "whales" can and do legally happen on even the vaunted NYSE. it's the game we play, generally. like in poker, ya bluff and call the other guys bluff and try and trick each other.

and yet here you are, saying you've made some 10,000 dollars, and your bitching. you know how much btc i have? last i did the math, about less than a cent. why are you complaining when you have come out of this so well?

49  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: metered connection, which wallet to use? on: November 24, 2019, 06:36:23 PM
ok, i believe i've completed this... electrum is processing it now.

question though - the dump file contained a cunch of items electrom didn't recognize for import, ie:

 "0014*************************************** 0 script=1 # addr=3***********************************"

what are these?

also i checked the balance of all the addresses... my entire BTC balance in this wallet file... was less than a cent. :|
50  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: metered connection, which wallet to use? on: November 24, 2019, 04:59:15 PM
thank you both. this is exactly what i was looking for.
51  Bitcoin / Wallet software / metered connection, which wallet to use? on: November 24, 2019, 04:46:17 AM
so i've been absent from the BTC scene for ...years. i have a tiny tiny amount in an old wallet.dat that i'd like to check on, but i always used bitcoinQT in the past. on my current internet connection that's... just not gonna work.

so, what's the simplest way to get to the bitcoin i have in the addresses stored in this old wallet.dat file, without compromising the private keys by importing them to some website or something?

a lite client that doesn't need the whole blockchain, maybe?

thanks guys.

i haven't been active here in months and only barely watching the crypto space - but the timing of facebook announcing libra and this spike i was really close from what i saw. i just assumed it was that.

have there been any other major news bombs this year? satoshi revealed? sha256 broken? something with quantum computing or other mining hardware news?

man i miss the mining... i wanna get back into it. only have like 50 something gigahash though... yes, giga. it's old stuff.

$50 Gift Card will take?

dude, this was posted in 2013. 7 years ago. I do not need one anymore. 7. years.

i've been in constant contact with marco for years now, since he took over my other loans from the past. he told me about this thread via text message, not a forum message. i think that's decent confirmation it's still the same guy. as for knowing i'm still me, well i was verified quite thoroughly for a group buy back in 2013, with photos and everything, and i still look mostly the same, so if there's a question about that i can show i'm me.

he's been more than patient with me through years of employment troubles, which i'm now finally getting back on top of. interviewed for a promotion recently, even. if that goes through then my repayment to him will continue as stated, at the least.

definitely not overclocked, never do that. has the factory cooler and i just blasted everything with air sunday night.

recently ran a bunch of memtests, both using windows built in diagnostic and memtest86. results were... inconclusive? i've been having random hard crashes where the whole system locks up for over a year now. but recently finally replaced the SSD and reinstalled windows, as well as the video card. after that and blasting the insides with air sunday it's been running fine.

HDD looks to have a warning about some sectors if i'm interpreting HDDscan correctly. not surprisingly, it's 8 years old. i'll do some investigation on that and probasbly replace the drive when i can.
Usually these kind of issues are due to bad memory. If memtests were inconclusive, you might want to consider replacing or removing some of your RAM to see if you can identify which modules are bad.

i'll try that. thanks.
57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: trouble syncing new install? on: October 02, 2018, 05:53:09 PM
This might be caused by a hardware issue.

Can you verify that your CPU is not overclocked and cooled properly ?
And also check your hard drive (i.e. S.M.A.R.T. values) and your RAM (i.e. memory test).

so, on a new windows install and formatted hard drive I've installed 16.3 and am trying to sync for the first time. it's getting stuck at about 15%. stays on the same block with no progress for hours. tried restarting the whole process by closing bitcoin core and deleting to data folder (separate hard drive from the install) and it happened again, about 15%, but a different block. the first time I had closed the client and replaced the newly made wallet file with my old one, but the second time I did not.

any thoughts? i can just leave it, but a block shouldn't be taking 6+ hours to download and process, should it?

(this viewed in ponderation of other peoples' presently pointing out your posting proclivities may provide probability to give your person pause)

Personally,I perceive your point a pertinent possibility...

Upon my premiere preview of picnickiebearie's posting, I hadn't perceived the precarious parroting of my prestigious and purportedly pretentious persona, which I pinpoint as perhaps inappropriate and preposterous

this is just plain preposterous.
