Trump's recusal motion cited Judge Merchan's daughter's work for Authentic Campaigns and her X account as the primary reasons for Merchan's recusal. Loomer exclusively reported that Loren Merchan is the partner and part-owner of Authentic Campaigns, a firm whose "featured client" is the Biden-Harris Campaign. Loren Merchan's X account, known as @LorenM426, featured a profile picture of President Trump behind bars in a jail cell. The facts make it clear that Judge Merchan must recuse himself for President Trump to receive a fair trial.
President Trump's recusal motion mentions Loren Merchan's work with Authentic Campaigns, "Your Honor's daughter, Loren Merchan, has a direct financial interest in these proceedings by virtue of her ownership stake and leadership role at Authentic Campaigns, Inc. Based on public disbursements data, Authentic, which services exclusively Democrat clients, is the #21 ranked vendor in the country in connection with the 2024 election."
The recusal motion also mentions Loren Merchan's X account, "Ms. Merchan apparently "deleted" an X account that contained posts reflecting hostility toward President Trump "last April," the same month that Your Honor solicited an ethics opinion regarding recusal in a letter containing information that the Court declined to disclose to the defense or the public. The suspicious timing of the alleged decision by Ms. Merchan to "delete" the X account, as well as more recent developments relating to the account, further support this motion."

In fact, this motion is basically the same as the one they filed last summer - when the judge had the state court ethics council determine there was no conflict of interest. A judge’s impartiality cannot reasonably be questioned based on (a) de minimis political contributions made more than two years ago or (b) the business and/or political activities of the judge’s first-degree relative, where the relative has no direct or indirect involvement in the proceeding and no interests that could be substantially affected by the proceeding.
(2) As a result, the judge is not ethically required to disclose such facts or circumstances sua sponte in the proceeding, regardless of any surrounding publicity or lack thereof. The judge may continue to preside in the matter provided the judge believes he/she can be fair and impartial. sourceHe's literally just trying to not have to face a jury. Even if he had a legitimate argument that hadn't already been ruled on regarding the judges recusal, that ship has sailed - his opportunity to make those arguments has passed - so he would need to prove that something changed or significant new information was revealed that he couldn't have known when it was the appropriate time to file these motions. Decent chance he fires all his lawyers by then, I think that would probably force a delay of a couple weeks, of course then he wouldn't have any of his lawyers anymore - but we'll see. It's dishonest to kyc players while advertising this:  Even if you don't kyc most players. Even if you only kyc when you think a player might have figured out a way to exploit your games or promotions. It's really not complicated - if you want to be a no kyc casino, don't kyc your players and make sure you don't offer any promotions or games that can be exploited. If you're concerned about being exploited by players and want to kyc to gather evidence so you can freeze player accounts, then make sure players aren't signing up thinking you're a no kyc casino. You get to make all the rules - quit trying to have it both ways. |
