Hello friends.

jojo shot me a message, and figured I'd pop in to say "Hi!" and "Miss you too jojo!"

Real life is keeping us super busy lately with everything we have going on with the Ranch build. Should start laying in roads within the next two weeks, and recognized we're going to need to MOVE A FREAKING POND to deal with some erosion issues and build up a portion of a neighbors eroded property, so, it's become a bigger project than initially anticipated, after all the analysis was done. Flooding can be a problem out there in some low-laying parts and the pond overflowing was also causing additional erosion issues. Our main homestead is on higher ground that is not affected.

Slow going on the legal challenge with enclosing a fence. It's meticulous work that we need to do with survey companies and court records, so everything will be ironclad in court protecting our claim. We're effectively "doing their homework for them", and going to shove it in their lawyers face, at what a bunch of absolute fuck-ups their clients are.

Rick is retiring on Tuesday.

Also, don't forget to smash buy some corn on September 7th, in solidarity with El Salvador!

Peace, love, and all that other nohomo stuff. Unless you want homo stuff...

Congrats on Rick's retirement.

Bitconnect, finally in the news. Those around in 2017 will remember that lending coin that wrecked many, so to say.

https://beincrypto.com/sec-lawsuit-bitconnect-founder-role-crypto-fraud/

When I was in Thailand my wife was selling BTC on localbitcoins. One guy mentioned that he wanted about $2k worth so he could put it into Bitconnect. I told her to explain to him that it was a scam and to cancel the order. She did, the guy decided he'd hold off on it.

And completely unrelated, a story came out today about how the Thai navy stopped paying their paid trolls which caused them to come out and tell people about their paid troll program to pressure the navy to pay them. When we were being chased by the navy we had the added bonus of those troll bastards attacking us on social media in the most vile ways possible.

Also, just 2 weeks ago news came out about how their police were torturing someone accused of a crime to get some money out of him, the guy ended up dying with a plastic bag over his head with video released of it and a full description of events by one of the police officers that went rogue. People told me I should just turn myself in (those same trolls kept telling me to turn myself in, that everything would be fine). I was known to have a lot of bitcoin, wanted for "attacking Thailand" (essentially) and they were assuring me I'd be "safe". I definitely would not be alive today had I not fled the country.

On many of my lightning channels I charge no fee.  On some high traffic channels (that are not mainly streaming payments, or channels with a country that NEEDS BTC (Cuba, ES, Afghanistan, Venezuela)) I charge an absolutely minimal fee, in theory to discourage attacks, though I am not sure if 2 satoshis is enough to have an anti-spam effect on a ~$500 payment, lol...

Who says lightning can only handle very small payments?  My little computer the size of an Altoids tin routed a successful >1000000 sat payment!  And does frequently.  And I rake in a whopping $0.00097.  It'll take more than 100 of these to make me a whole penny.

I am watching my traffic very carefully, and it is most certainly increasing.  My channel with Podcast Index is my favourite with payments commonly between 1-3 satoshis.  I have records of facilitating payments EACH SECOND to this node at 3 satoshis each...  This is letting a podacaster earn $5hr for their content instead of the $3/hr they would earn if each of the forwards I took just 1 SAT.

Yes, I am losing potential revenue... But I am also avoiding having to report that as income lol.  And my very biggest reason to do it is to make it possible for these pioneers to spin this thing up and make it work.

Here is a fun little segment from my logs... with some of the sensitive info XXXX'd out. Wink  3 sats per second!  My raspberryPi is helping make streaming payment possible!!!!

I am certainly not against lightning node operators making money for routing payments... But I have to admit, I wonder if there are more people like me out there if it will make this catch on a little quicker?

I'm setting my Umbrel node at the moment. I plan to do the same, encourage use through low fees.

I used all of their recommended hardware but am ordering a new SSD to USB chord to replace the case and a new power chord that is the official Raspberry Pi one. It tends to disconnect from the SSD from time to time. The blocks are taking a long time to load due to either low bandwidth or some bottleneck between Panama and the peer nodes. Hopefully my node will help any future Panama nodes.

I look forward to using sphinx chat. May set up a seastead tribe for chatting.

Well, wouldja look at that?!??!

I DID have a balance on Gox!

_edit_  Still reeling!  All the talk I do about not leaving your balance laying around, and in reality I was GOXED.

I think that's about what mine is. But it's like .04 or something. They didn't have a "send all" button so you just typed how many you wanted to send. I guess I was lazy after the first decimal.

I have been in contact with the lawyers for Bitcoinica as well. I had more on there. Quite a few bitcoins, I think around 40. When talking to the lawyers about getting my money back they said they can only pay the dollar amount at that time. And I had to prove with screenshots of my balance at the time.
Who takes screenshots of their exchange balance? And I'm pretty sure I was using my work email for that. A job I haven't worked at for many years.

... there is another angle to this also, once people have a deflationary money to store their earnings in for future spending then they are motivated to buy products that last, quality items are preferred over inferior quality substitutes that burn-out, break, etc, i.e. cheap nasty stuff that gets disposed of readily ... because if you buy a product that serves a utility/function/pleasure for longer then your savings will buy more of that product (use/functionality) in the future

I'm not sure what's the purpose of that post.

Sure, overconsumption may decrease in certain parts of the world if we all used a deflationary currency such as Bitcoin, but if you know that your currency will worth more in the future, you'll also choose to not invest in stocks, because they'll bring less rate than your currency's. This means that the economic growth will slow down. Not to mention how damaging can this be for the government.

There are lots of downsides that come from deflation.

And now you understand the whole point of Bitcoin.

Don't think they haven't noticed. That is why they are fighting. If you support Bitcoin you will be fighting your government eventually. Until they lose.

Buying a Nintendo for $5 is a good example of why people are still willing to spend their bitcoin when they know the price will continue to go up.

If people are not willing to part with their money knowing that they can get the same product for less later on then why did anyone buy a Nintendo for $150 when they could have just waited and paid $5?

Why are people buying PS5s above retail value (current going price is about $700 while it is sold at stores for $400)?

Two days ago (in Dutch): banks ban organisations based on their (political) opinion.
Yesterday (bloomberg.com): banks decide what OnlyFans can or can't show.

What's with banks wanting to decide how you can spend your money? I've read several similar stories lately, it's as if banks want their core business to be taken over by crypto!

I have been added to the bank no account list. I tracked down the organisation responsible and the wording of the list. Due to what they read in the media about me in Thailand they concluded that I should not be allowed to have a bank account. Nor should my company, Ocean Builders, here in Panama be allowed to have a bank account either. I am in the process of setting up a foundation to protect some assets and the foundation came back saying that they may face some trouble due to my being on the 'list'.

I am very seriously considering a lawsuit. It does not just affect me, it means our business needs to deal only in bitcoin and cash to continue operating. Which is good for Bitcoin but excludes a lot of potential revenue.

The whole world needs to switch to bitcoin already. Being able to send someone money in seconds and being able to hold your money is far superior to handing it over to someone to beg permission to use.

You still doing the boat thing?  Wondering because Brock just bought one that was going to the scrap yard from auction. Might just be boat envy.  Cheesy

I saw that, talked to Brock when I had it. He was interested in the project. We ended up selling the Satoshi. Looks like it's still dry docked, getting a revamp for future cruises for old people.

"We spent $2.26 trillion over 20 years in Afghanistan which has a population of 37.5 million which is $60,267 per capita. Afghan per capita GDP is about $500 by exchange rates and $2,000 by PPP (purchasing power parity). If we use the higher latter number, we could have provided 30 years worth of income for every single person living in Afghanistan instead of 20 years of war, or more than doubled living standards by 150% for 20 years.  Another perspective, at 4 persons per family, we could have built each family in Afghanistan a $241,000 manson (a new apt in Kabul costs say $25k).  The irony too is that the CIA started the Taliban to fight the soviets.  Anyways, what an immense waste, normal whenever gov. touches anything."

almost the entire cryptos market cap Smiley

I have a theory that if a nation's enemy were to pay every person between 18 and 40-50 to not work for a decade or so, you would destroy their economy and it would likely never recover as there would be a cultural shift based around being unproductive.

And some people actually want to do that to their own nation.

Do you guys really think people will use their BTC to pay for cinema halls, paying their Mortgages and shit? No fucking way.

What else would they use?

Unless you're suggesting people buy fiat to pay for stuff.

The whole point of the Afghanistan debacle was so I could spend 2 years there putting every single paycheck into Bitcoin. All so I could work to usher in a new world of liberty and peace.

The war was not for nothing.

go to "American Families Plan" for effective dates. Bad (maybe good if sold beforehand) news-April 28, 2021 is the effective date for cap gains.

https://www.hklaw.com/en/insights/publications/2021/06/biden-administrations-fy-2022-budget-and-its-tax-increases

FTA

"The legislative pathway for enactment and effective dates are yet undetermined."

"Subject Long-Term Capital Gains and Qualified Dividend to Ordinarily Income Tax Rates. The rate applicable to long-term capital gains and qualified dividends would be increased to 39.6 percent for households earning more than $1 million. A long-term capital gain derives from assets that are held longer than a year. A "qualified dividend" is an ordinary dividend that meets specific criteria to be taxed at the current law lower capital gains rate rather than at the higher individual ordinary income tax rate."

Oh good grief...

So if Rick and I are retired, we can only sell $1M USD - (Bob Retirement Income Stream + Rick Retirement Income Stream), otherwise risk breaking the mental and physical fortitude I have gained so far.

I moved past using Titanium Plates and thought I had mastered using Raw Existential Angst to crush my testicles, thanks to deep devotion to my meditative techniques.

We're gonna need something harder...

Or, take a BlockFi loan out and pay 4%.

My retirement plan is to wait for the US to collapse. Though at that point I won't need to cash out my BTC.

When I run into stuff like this I can only think that an immutable decentralised ledger of some form that publicly holds the truth of things would be so much better. All land should be on some blockchain breaking down the exact coordinates of the land. Actually, I know someone who was working on this years ago.

There's no reason people can't trade their well defined property easily.

"Code as law" falls over pretty quickly in such cases as there is often a need for human intervention. This is a big problem I have with the grandiose claims of Eth. It definitely has a niche but will never be as widely applicable as they hope.

Had they used the same Oracle Database which was publicly transparent and reliable then Bob would not be having any issues.

The problem, in this case, is that the property definition changed without any paper trail of why or when it changed.

Here in Panama owning property is very difficult because someone can own a property but then someone else comes forward with some paper from 1920 saying their great grandfather owned that property, and they can gain control of the property. The problem being that there was no standard system of proving ownership. My friend used to go up and down the Caribbean coast with a six pack of beer and a stack of cash and when he found a property he liked he would ask the locals to find him the owner. He'd offer them the six pack and wad of cash and have them put their thumb print on a document giving him ownership.

How much land is in dispute?
I'm sure you'll win. Modern surveying is pretty accurate. People get funny ideas in their heads about where lines are though.

They are literally disputing about 20 feet on a single marker, that is holding up fence construction along a 1/3rd mile border segment.

Offered to buy their property and was shouted down.

Even offered to fix the fence at my expense, if they provide me a valid, signed and stamped survey that contests mine.

They are refusing to let me proceed until they have time to get their own survey (A pointless waiting tactic that I've had enough of)

Lawfare it is.

When I run into stuff like this I can only think that an immutable decentralised ledger of some form that publicly holds the truth of things would be so much better. All land should be on some blockchain breaking down the exact coordinates of the land. Actually, I know someone who was working on this years ago.

On the earlier discussion about money not making you happy.

I recall a study done where it's not so much that money makes you happy but not having money makes you less happy.

I think the key is to reach the point where you're not worried about money anymore so you can focus on better things in life. But the less money you have, you certainly do need to worry about money. I've been at the lowest end of the scale to well beyond the highest and I would agree.

I would caveat this with the fact that though I did not have money (I figured out the many ways to cook potatoes as it was all I had to eat for weeks, and later finding Bar-S hot dogs for $1 and a loaf of bread for $1 could get me through a week of meals) I knew that if things got too bad I could fall back on family. So my level of desperation never hit huge lows.

My current goal in life is not about having super cool awesome stuff, lambos, etc. It's about ensuring that the rest of my life I am not in the position I was early in my life. My problem with government has always been that they are the biggest factor in stopping me from ensuring my future through the use of violence.

Thx elwar…. I’m very interested in these kind of studies…

Good when I have some discussions with some peeps

I’m of the opinion Money doesn’t make happy… but it make thing way easier and that’s why it does make people happy

Like not have the need of worrying to pay monthly bills, able of going on holidays etc

Then comes the point of more money could be better, holidays can go easier more exciting, a bigger car, better house little more luxury things etc

Do I need most of gadgets not really but when there is more money then mostly more things are being bought.

I can say there isn’t really a lot making me happy these days from gadgets, I do like a nice house to call home and a nice car to drive with…. So money doesn’t necessarily makes one happy but the comfort it can give and taking away some stress points that’s something anyone becomes happy from…

Being able of taking my Gf or brother or someone I like on a trip or at a high class restaurant and give them the experience they wouldn’t have … that makes me happy as well

So I’m in favor of having more money as less money is a thing that could give join, an important thing maybe is to use it on important stuff as well and not only gadgets …

My experience: You can only be worried about money if you have money you don't want to lose, for any reason.
No money, no worries (about money).
No woman, no cry.

Money well gives you security, which again, is not happiness. Well, maybe happiness is sometimes dependent on security. But it's not the same at all.

Having owned a cruise ship I found it only gave myself and my business partner nothing but grief. It became a very expensive thing that was like a big target for people/entities that wanted nothing but money from us and there are so many systems in place for them to get it lest we lose our very valuable asset. Owning it was like having someone holding some blackmail over your head (do what we say or we take away your cruise ship). We were more than happy to get the thing off of our hands, at one point willing to just sink it in the ocean rather than deal with the headache of it. Even now, half a year later we're dealing with one particular leech, paying lawyers heavily to deal with him.

I'm fully expecting bitcoin to hit $200k this cycle. I'm putting together a list of things I will buy at that point. Throwing $1 million at a house will come from the amount of BTC I made in one paycheck back in 2016 via BitWage.

I've had the Anthrax vaccine so if you haven't had it then I will consider you unvaxxed. I will then consider you as hesitant on getting the Anthrax jab.
