41  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: They put an end to online gambling: what do you think it's going to happen? on: May 11, 2024, 12:29:24 PM
~
What now? That scenario is so far away from the reality that it's even a question as to why it is connected to how will we cope when online gambling gets banned. Anw ignoring the initial story, I wouldn't particularly do much about it. I don't really see gambling as a must do activity, it's there and I enjoy it and it's available so I play it, if it's not then that's that. I might try to access it via VPN sometime but that's probably the limit of whatever I'll do to try and continue gambling. Anything above that like moving to a new country would probably be outside of what I'd ever think about in the first place.
42  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a core subject in our schools - Good or bad idea? on: May 11, 2024, 08:22:02 AM
~
Bitcoin is broad not because it's Bitcoin but because of the tech used in it, so why bother teaching Bitcoin? Teach the technology behind it instead of going around Bitcoin just to prioritize how important it is lol. And even then, I don't think it'd be a huge or a core subject. Probably a small part of a curriculum that tackles blockchain, most likely something network related subject. And even then I reckon it's on a more specialized topic since most students probably won't even touch blockchain when they graduate, or at least won't be part of their first work experience.
43  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the main points of gambling? on: May 11, 2024, 05:59:23 AM
Gambling thus requires three elements to be present: consideration
(an amount wagered), risk (chance), and a prize.

I noticed that people now don't actually know their main points of them gambling, some people gamble to earn daily and some people just gamble cause they saw their friends won in gambling. That's how they develop their gambling lifestyle and from their they get addicted to it. I've over heard people complaining about them losses, for me I think they don't know the main points of gambling. What do you think about this people losses much? Does it mean they don't know the main points of gambling?
Does it even matter that they need to identify what the main points are? Heck, even just the act of gambling itself already presents the main points, I don't think it matters at all for people to be aware of what they actually are or not. In fact you don't even need to know it in the first place. It's nothing important and in most cases, if not all, as long as a gambling instance has a prize and a chance to win, that's more than enough for people to gamble.
44  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Peoples expectations about casinos free spins on: May 09, 2024, 11:02:42 PM
~
Idk, I think you're overcomplicating how casinos see free spins as. They offer it as an incentive, so people would spend more to get them. Free spins isn't really a guarantee to win, and even if they did, with the amount of customers that play, they'd easily recoup whatever amount won there. It wouldn't have existed if it wasn't working in the first place. And I don't think it's greed really, it might just be that your bottomline is higher than others, so you're able to achieve that free spin, simple as that.

The only dumb part I see with free spins is wagering a specific amount before being able to withdraw whatever you win from them. That's just... really dumb imo.
45  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do people lose in gambling and still go ahead and bet more? on: May 09, 2024, 09:43:51 PM
~
The most dumb thing to give someone is to give them the idea that if they continue gambling they'd win it big at some point. That's how all gamblers fall into that endless loop of an idea that they'd be someday repaid with their continuous gambling. It does happen though, dw, just that it only happens to that 1% (or maybe even less) of gamblers. And it's not even a fair selection really, since rich people would be able to get into that 1% more than an average gambler could.

I'd honestly tell them to do something else, find a hobby or something. Maybe invite him to join me on what I enjoy.
46  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are You Using A Journal Spreadsheets Will Pave The Way For Addiction To Gambling on: May 09, 2024, 09:07:12 PM
~
Not really no? It's just a pretty easy way to tally your gambles, especially for people who want to have a clear idea about what the hell happened throughout their entire journey. Now if I wasn't a lazy ass I would've done the same, which I did one time, but at some point, I just forgot all about it lol.

In his case, I wouldn't consider it as addiction or anything, seriously? Maybe. But it's more so because he's turning it into a challenge of sorts. That's why he needs a journal. Now idk the logic exactly as to why you want to have a journal, but it's always better to have one when you're turning it into a challenge of sorts than not having one.
47  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: attempting to turn 0.05 BTC into 1.7 BTC on: May 08, 2024, 11:25:05 PM

Hi, thank you for the advice! Smiley I am working full time right now and saving for school, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I can pay for medical school with football/soccer bet winnings! If I don't succeed it's not the end of the world, but I will certainly try my best! Smiley
Phew was questioning your decision-making skills since you needed to pay for medical school and you'd still gamble. Afaik student debt, especially in fields of medicine, could go up pretty damn high that even working 2-3 years after wouldn't even be enough to pay it out. Considering that ig 0.05 can be pretty small.

Idk exactly how much your student loan would be but if 0.05 is about half or so, I'd honestly just save it as payment.  Anw good luck OP!
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you trust bitcoin holders? on: May 08, 2024, 10:00:28 PM
Since bitcoin promotes mostly anti-government, banks, etc.

I am wondering; Do you trust bitcoin holders?
Well if having to hide my privacy is somehow anti-government then yea, I guess you can say Bitcoin promotes anti-government. But afaik it's not? Pretty sure that's part of the basic freedom that we're supposed to have.

As for trusting bitcoin holders, with what specifically? Kind of broad really. I mean would I trust a random bitcoin holder on the internet? Probably not. Do I trust myself, who is a bitcoin holder? Well who the hell will I trust if not myself lol.
49  Economy / Economics / Re: Banning of p2p on crypto apps in Nigeria on: May 08, 2024, 09:31:52 PM
I am so much concerned to why Nigerians government is banning the use of p2p on some crypto apps. To their allegations, it's said the crypto is affecting the currency and it also aids money laundry. Can anyone enlighten if what the government is doing is the right thing. The government left the banking sector and blames binance and other crypto companies.
Well, it's outside their control. Outside equals bad in their dictionary, so they're trying to do something about it but I don't think there's anything solid they can even do about it. Geoblocking can only do so much and they can't exactly force a service online to go down since they only control the rules in their country, not outside of it. Centralized they can control a bit more about it, but p2p, again, limited.

Now If I were to put what they're doing between right and wrong, if it was indeed for money laundering then yea, I mean they need to do it anyway, part of their job in protecting stuff. But most of the time it's not really limited to that, they just choose to use that as their frontal image so that they have a valid excuse.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what things can do if i hodle for long time crypto on: May 07, 2024, 11:02:11 PM
~
Don't go to twitter then lol. Honestly though I felt the same, Even when I invested in Bitcoin back when it was the pandemic where it dumped to iirc 8k ish? or lower even, I still had that mindset where I was so concerned whether I made money, no matter how small or big from a days movement. It wasn't something about trust on an investment or anything, just pure fear of me not knowing what the hell happened and everytime I saw that it dipped down even by a dollar, then I start getting weak hands.

I'd honestly say just grit your teeth and wait really. Around after half a month or a month, you'd start regularly forgetting to keep check of your coins and you'd be fine to hodl them for a longer time now. And to keep the idea that the money you lost is already lost, so why bother selling it instead of waiting for it to get at least back up to the original amount you invested.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most "Memecoins" are not even coins, most "Memecoins" are tokens on: May 07, 2024, 09:50:39 PM
~
Well, it's used interchangeably by people who don't know the intricacies of it, I myself just use coins in general for memecoins cause why the hell not, and in reality it doesn't really matter. Most people only take in the idea that memecoins = quick profit in the short term. Pretty sure most investors wouldn't even think about how a building is made, they just think about how that building can bring profits to their businesses. Same idea here.

Wouldn't even be wrong to categorize memecoins as a pump/dump coins really.
52  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is more regulation coming to online gambling? on: May 07, 2024, 09:37:34 PM
~
Wouldn't the same issue of casinos operating in legal countries still be a problem? But for unlicensed ones, rather odd how providers don't already have that rule or agreement of theirs that requires a casino to at least have a license to operate a business online. Or do they just in general give it out and just let the casinos do the geoblocking for countries where gambling isn't allowed?

I also highly doubt casinos making their own games. They can make a couple few, but all of them? Nah. I reckon they'd have to spend too much time and money for that effort when there's already ready made ones in the market.
~
Allowing more regulation to take place under the premise of minor protection might sound like a good cause, but for online gambling it might be a major setback.
How can we implement limitations that are actually going to work? The only method I can think of is pre-emtive live KYC and perhaps also live verification before gambling sessions. Do we want and need this only to prevent minors from playing? It would be very easy to track one's activity also and for governments as well to snoop on what people do.

For me, I'd rather accept that there's some personal responsibility with each parent to teach but also monitor their children than have to go through hell each time I'd like to toss away a few cents.
Yea there's no real easy way to get around confirming if someone is a minor or not. If in mobile phones or something with a fingerprint scanner though, they may use the native fingerprint info of the phone to determine whether someone playing is the parent themselves or just a child. But then again, it's pretty limited to mobile, I don't think people are going to buy an external finger print scanner just to play in a casino lol.
53  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you disguise on your real gambling lifestyle just to help a friend/relative? on: May 06, 2024, 11:05:02 PM
~
Dunno really. In the past maybe. But nowadays? I'm sticking to using 5% of my salary on gambling and only that, never exceeding it. I even use any leftovers from my past session so sometimes that 5% can even go lower. As for friends, well, most of my gambling friends went the same way as me, bad habits turned good after a couple of years.

Some outliers may be for some of my new friends but I've always tried to advocate how bad it can go for them so they should start turning back and changing now. It's pretty hard to prove though since the sense of money now is rather different compared to back then when I still had my bad habits which was around the end of high school to college. $20 looked pretty big back then.
54  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Aviator games on: May 06, 2024, 09:38:45 PM
~
Looked it up, surprisingly it's just crash? Or something similar to it. Not surprising why it's not talked about, gameplay-wise it's pretty similar to how you'd think of it when watching dice games. Nothing. There's nothing to talk about it or a strategy or some unique unexpected thing happening there, it's purely about luck and when you decide to actually stop and let go.

I personally enjoy it myself and have shared how much I enjoyed it in the past, but at the same time, I wouldn't even plan to open up a discussion about it since there's nothing to talk about the game itself due to how simple it is.
55  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between females and males, who are more resistant to gambling losses?  on: May 06, 2024, 09:09:47 PM
~
Losses don' depend on your gender lol. Every one of us losses at some point. There are just a lot fewer women playing in the first place that's why most people think men lose more than women. On giving up, now that may vary but with no statistics to back it up, can't really answer it. In my personal opinion then it's women since the majority of them are a lot more emotional than men, which isn't a bad thing imo, but it is something that can't last when gambling. Addiction wise they're about the same imo. Again, there are just fewer instances of women playing that's why it looks like it's mostly males who get addicted.
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will this stack make me a USD millionaire? on: May 05, 2024, 10:43:31 PM
~
The 7 BTC and 70 ETH right now is roughly around $650k~ ish. But since we are considering by the end of 2025, and that I'm assuming a pump would actually happen by next year, said amount would probably be pretty close to a million. Heck most people are expecting 100k ish in BTC so that would already equate to 700k and since ETH (and most altcoins) closely follow BTC price, it'd be pretty safe to say that you'd get that one million by 2025. Tax not included yet though  Wink

If you were selling exactly at the end of 2025, things might change since the market may drop though.
57  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What ways can a trader raise money? on: May 05, 2024, 09:32:36 PM
~
I highly doubt newbies would be able to persuade others to invest in them, most people would just assume that they're a scam. The small percentage who would believe that they aren't a scam probably wouldn't agree as well since, well, you're a newbie. Why bother with you when there's more experienced traders you can probably hire to manage your portfolio no?

Honestly excluding the option of them getting a job is just dumb, the only method you'd be able to earn and save up money IS by working. Doesn't matter if it's under a company or freelancing, they're both work.
58  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How much of my salary should I use to gamble on: May 05, 2024, 09:01:04 PM
~
Realistically less than 10%, or maybe even less than 5%. I started with around 10% ish back then cause my salary was damn low, but nowadays I only use 5% or so whenever I play since I switched jobs to a better paying one. That's my case, in your case all depends on what you can actually afford. It may even be below 5% if you're struggling so far so it all depends. If you're just starting out I'd recommend somewhere around 3-5%? That's after you calculate every expense btw like bills, savings, investments and whatnot.
59  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Lack of capital or knowledge, which one is holding traders back from profits? on: May 05, 2024, 02:34:12 AM
You can use your capital to gain knowledge since I'm of the opinion that learning comes from losing,  but you can't use the knowledge you have if you don't have the capital to start investing in the first place, so I'd go with capital instead.  Knowledge also comes from real-life experience, or at least a part of it, so without any capital traders wouldn't even be able to start capitalizing on the knowledge that they have.

My opinion stems from the idea that the trader would actually learn how to trade while having his own money to trade with, but if said trader just willy-nilly trades then yea, no amount of capital would fill the gap about not knowing how to trade. They're both pretty important in the end though.
60  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think casinos can stop demanding KYC? on: May 05, 2024, 12:19:32 AM
~
I'd say they'd still continue it. It's basically a free source of customer data which they can use to tabulate and formulate marketing plans. As for customers complaining about KYC, well, they've already done so for years, I highly doubt they're still going to complain midway. Maybe if a big casino started removing it then yea, others would definitely follow suit, otherwise I don't think they'd remove it. Plus, even if we do say the government didn't make it a necessity, the casino would be plagued by criminal activities and what's the only method of defense that they would have? KYC.

But if it ever happens, casinos would probably be made to be closed down by the government again or make KYC return since the place would be rampant with money laundering schemes and other similar stuff they're able to do there. Highly doubt the government would ever rescind KYC as well.
