401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-mined and Facebook distribution on: August 06, 2014, 01:38:29 AM
Why aren't the other alt-coin developers using the same method of Stellar? (they have made 125,863 different unique accounts in few days)

They should do a pre-mine of X amount of their alt-coin (it should be public, nothing hidden), and then spread them by using Facebook accounts.

Verified Facebook accounts are good to spread alt-coins because it's difficult that there will be more than one account for person.

I know that there are exceptions, but they aren't common on a large scale.

It needs a secure (devs shouldn't have access to private keys) and easy web-wallet, and a check for a verified facebook accounts.

This will be a very easy way to spread the cryptocurrency word to common people.

There was a guy that collected 2 M stellars within 48 hours.

"FAIR" lol
402  Economy / Speculation / Re: $500,000 per Bitcoin, baby. The math behind it. on: August 06, 2014, 01:27:31 AM
In your E.g., I need to buy something on eBay for BTC0.10 so I convert $60 to BTC0.10 to buy my good. If the seller than converts the Bitcoin he received for USD again there would be no price (or supply/demand) consequence.

Perhaps eBay get's more people buying BTC to hold for future purchases, but why? If I can buy in BTC and USD and I get paid by my employer in USD, what's the reason for me to transfer to BTC? It wouldn't be more convenient. It wouldn't guarantee me a better price.

Have to agree, eBay adding Bitcoin doesnt change much, only those having Bitcoin already might use it at eBay.

This is my thinking of Bitcoin adoption:

1. cheap ASIC mining hardware
2. cheap secure hardware wallets for average Joe
3. over 10% of Employess worldwide getting paid in Bitcoin

I think first step getting very close...

1. Pretty cheap and getting cheaper all the time - though not material to adoption in any way
2. Trezor is very secure and $119.  You may not consider this cheap but, of course, the price will drop over time.
3. Not quite there yet.

why is trezor so secure in your opinion?  isnt that hard to prove?

Not really, go to their github and read their code. Also they posted all their hardware specifications and builds.
403  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 06, 2014, 01:24:44 AM
Just discussed Trezor with a good friend of mine.

It would be awesome, if one day trezor could additional to BTC transactions also handle all cards needed in your wallet. Credit cards, driverslicense (ok, thats a far stretch Wink ) , state issued ID , loyality store cards, giftcards ect. So instead of having to use multiple cards, RFID/NFD on the trezor is used for that.
404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When will the next Bitcoin/Altcoin rally start on: August 06, 2014, 01:16:12 AM
That is a great site. I use it a lot. But without history, it is hard to compare my portfolio over, say, 7 days or 30 days. I don't remember what the market cap was this morning, much less what it was on, say, July 8th, when I opened several positions.

I am sure there is a site that tracks all those stats. Just need to search for it.
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NFO] Ethereum = Scam on: August 06, 2014, 01:09:03 AM
The most interesting of this ipo is that it can be a whale fight, with ether not capped, if a whale wants 5% of all ether, he buys it, but days later he will see that hes not holding 5% anymore due to recent purchases, so he will buy more, and this can continue several times. Or maybe in the last hours there will be huge purchases.

how much ether do you think it will be sold?

100,000,000 + and I am relatiely confident with that guess!
406  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 06, 2014, 12:53:46 AM

If someone finds your dollar bill laying around on the ground they can spend it. Dollar bills still work just fine. Dont give your trezor to anyone else, problem solved. If you lose it, oh well you only had 100 bucks on it or w/e is the analogue to what you might keep in your regular fiat holding wallet.

You see, here I disagree. Why would anyone buy a trezor for 120 bucks to only carry an average of 100 bucks around. Doesn't sound too practical tbh.

you are correct. this is not the intended use I believe. if you lose it, your life savings are protected as good as you protect the seed.

To accomplish the use that anon136 proposes a simple phone app would suffice.

But he has a good point. What about this use case:

We have a trezor with RFID/any near field tech and can connect to our smartphone. Now we have a "hot"wallet on the phone for immediate expenses that can be funded by connecting the trezor and entering all needed security stuff. The amount on the trezor itself stays very well protected while the phone can be used at POS terminals and NFD/RFID terminals for small purchases.
For bigger purchases you could use your smartphone to directly send from your connected trezor to the vendor.

Should be possible right? Anything like that in the making?
407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NFO] Ethereum = Scam on: August 06, 2014, 12:49:45 AM
A scam?

That has generated $13 million in investments in the last two weeks.

And $3 million in the last 24 hours alone.

Hmm.

How exactly would the amount of investments contradict the accusation of a scam?

Was MTgox no scam because half a billion was stolen?
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When will the next Bitcoin/Altcoin rally start on: August 06, 2014, 12:47:58 AM
Just curious...how would we know it there was a rally in altcoins? Seems like we all judge for ourselves based on the coins we own.  But with 900+ coins, there isn't anything of which I am aware that gives a wide look at the total market. Maybe my portfolio is awesome compared to the market. Maybe I am leaving opportunity on the table.

I have 6 indexes of my own creation that I have created that I am trying to track and test, but I am limited by a lack of historical info. It is really pissing me off that I can't find anything suitable.

I found something called the DAC500 that purports to be an index, but
1) it only seems to update once every 24 hours, and
2) the index is 95% weighted to just bitcoin, litecoin, and ripple (which I really don't get why ripple is as high as it is) which basically makes it fairly useless. Might as well just track the BTC price.

Also found something called UltraCoin Cryptocurrency Index, but it hasn't updated in months and BTC is heavily weighted.

How do you gauge the market?

You can probally tell a Bitcoin rally by an increased Bitcoin market cap.
You can probally tell a Altcoin rally by an increased overall altcoin market cap.

Both infos can be found on coinmarketcap.com
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Warning: GAW-Miners Hosting / Zenminer Cloud / OneMiner.com does not mine LTC on: August 06, 2014, 12:44:51 AM
They would be actually pretty clever to just use your invested money to buy coins and then payout that in dividends. Most of the time they will come out way ahead Wink
410  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin seconds/minutes/hours/days... on: August 06, 2014, 12:42:49 AM
Bitcoindaysdestroyed is a very nice concept. It could potentionally show the velocity of money, but unfortunally it has some serious logical flaws.

Still a nice indicator.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NFO] Ethereum = Scam on: August 06, 2014, 12:41:14 AM
So spoetnik, im seeing you have created several topics with the common subject of stating something is bad or scam, like the dogecoin and this one, man, seriously, if you did lose money trading or joining ipos thats nothing we can do about it! posting this topics will not help, if you think what you say its fine, put it on practice, but dont think thats the truth.
I have seen many people taking huge profit from ipos, even when they are later found to be scams, same with alt currencies, its just a game of knowing when to enter and when to be out... if you dont like to lose so all this is not for you, money scared doesnt make money.

It is actually purely selfish agenda and he is invested in those coins and doesn't want anyone else to water down his investment.

412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 06, 2014, 12:37:05 AM
Sounds great, one more question - what's one full Bitcoin node?
That's a copy of Bitcoin-Qt or bitcoind (better).

Those clients work by downloading and verifying the entire blockchain, which is approaching 20 GB last time I checked.

Getting a full node running from scratch means a day or two of investment, and that's if you speed it up by using Bittorrent to grab a blockchain snapshot first.

So for a user/BTC owner that doesn't have that kind of technical knowledge is Armory no longer an option?

Actually it is very user friendly. Just try it out!
413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NODE - Official Discussion Thread! Distributing the coins! on: August 06, 2014, 12:34:20 AM
I am in the list. How can I get my coins? Thanks.

My node account is 16788356351633443172, but I don't see my account ID on the list, what should I do now?

Who can help?

Contact one of the devs. Most people suggested that. (Try the thread opener!)

416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: August 06, 2014, 12:22:35 AM
Can some tell me if Ethereum is only meant/useful for developers? Can it be used/useful for a non IT person?

Bump + 22,216.44112997 BTC in the pot  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

You can use the apps that are built ontop but I doubt you have the skills to program those apps.

Anyway I think the immediate use-cases for normal non-it, non-finance guys is minimal.
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NODE - Official Discussion Thread! Distributing the coins! on: August 06, 2014, 12:21:15 AM
I am still curios.

What is the main distinguishing feature to Nxt?
No new feature compared NXT,just a fork of NXT.

Yes for now, I hope the devs make some innovations!

Why do you write No Collateral in the topic name even though you clearly do take collateral as a pawn shop?
Collateral is optional. Updated.

Much better! Good luck with all the scammers around here... though business!
