The newspaper headline words were used by Satoshi as part of the Genesis block. So it acts as a timestamp, and also it is assumed some form of motivation So the newspaper didnt have his words, he used the newspapers :-) |

I have had 2 come through my hands, and they have been impossible to replace. I probably bought the last ones from 'the usual outlets' for historical newspapers in the UK
I traded 1 with a buyer in the US, and sold another to a buyer in Canada
I am unsure that you will get too many people coming forward claiming current ownership. Equally it is impossible to state given how many will or wont come forward, how many copies are out there. Indeed, many will be in the hands of none bitcoiners, not realising the significance they have
I live in hope that I will 'stumble across one' but figure for those, they may not be in the pristine condition of a collectable copy. Still pretty unlikely it will happen.

How much did you sold yours for? I'll let the buyer reveal the price, but it was less than the ask for the bar on sale here. So .... I was the buyer from Miffman. On this occasion, I would prefer to keep the price between Miff and myself I would value seeing the market determine the fair price for this piece now, although to be honest, it would have to be very strong to convince me to consider parting with mine I have a feeling this has significant potential to appreciate in the long term (certainly wrt Fiat values .... hedged bet when it comes to BTC values) Good luck with your sale |

Given that sales are often made here in 10's of bitcoins, rather than 1/10ths of bitcoins, this all appears to be getting out of hand.
The escrow is the trusted third party, and independant arbiter in case of dispute. Escrow is there to provide protection to both seller and buyer. Generally they would only handle the digital coins rather than a physical item.
BUT If buyer cannot trust seller to ship the item, rather than an empty box. And / or seller cannot trust the buyer to confirm delivery of the item, rather than an empty box ... then the escrow can be used to relay the physical item also. This is not generally how it is done, but it can be, if needs be.
At no point should escrow ever be released on being provided a tracking number only. The recieving party (or their proxy the escrow, in the second escrow scenario) should always be able to validate the goods recieved, prior to escrow funds being released.
If a deal cannot be reached in any of those models, then there isnt a deal to be had.
