4101  Economy / Speculation / Re: 15k treshold...hold or fold? on: December 09, 2017, 04:48:38 PM
there really isn't a singular answer for everyone when it comes to holding or selling or whatever!
for some people it is best to sell because they know what "sell on top" means and they want to buy the dips so they need the money to do that.
for others who don't understand what "sell on top" means and instead sell in the dip and then wait for lower price, it is best for them to just hold otherwise they lose money.
4102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If a friend ows you 0.1 Btc from Dec 2016 ... on: December 09, 2017, 03:27:27 PM
when lending something to someone (in this case bitcoin to a friend) you need some kind of agreement or contract, verbal or non verbal and in that you should set the terms. for example you talk about price and what the plan should be in case it went up or it went down (the risk works both ways). and then stick to it. if you had something like that, then stick to it and if not then that is your fault!
4103  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Volatility A Bad Thing? on: December 09, 2017, 03:07:26 PM
Steam dropped bitcoin support citing "high volatility" as a motive.

where did you see that?
as far as i know Steam dropped support for bitcoin because the transaction fee was so huge, a normal transaction could cost $15 and that is bigger than most items on Steam Store ($9.99 items for example!).

Quote
Are there good arguments or evidence which support the concept of high volatility being a negative circumstance?

high volatility is only good for traders. because they have so many moves to take advantage of and make profit from.
other than that, volatility is no good. specially when you are talking about something that is supposed to be a currency, ie. bitcoin!
4104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Unconfirmed Transactions keeping price up?! on: December 09, 2017, 02:56:16 PM
Maybe you can help me out here, but the most likely scenario for me is that this prevents the btc price from dropping right now?

well first of all, how are you sure that these transactions are people moving bitcoin from their wallets to exchanges?! i say it is people moving bitcoin from exchanges out to their wallets! i bet you haven't thought about that possibility yet.

secondly, the price is mostly affected by traders who are keeping their coins+money on exchanges ready to go, not from some dude who doesn't know he has to pay a higher fee if he wants a faster confirmation. and those who know will pay a higher fee, even 800-2000 satoshi/byte (check the blocks that are mined and you will see these).

and finally the price fell hard from $19000 to current price recently and the unconfirmed transactions were still high at 100K+. how do you explain that?
4105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Bitcoin Futures? on: December 09, 2017, 02:42:31 PM
Hi, I was curious what your thoughts are on Bitcoin Futures. Do you think this is a positive opportunity for Bitcoin investors? Or, do you think this will thwart the growth of physical bitcoin?
Someday in the future, bitcoin will destroy the balance in the global market, it will dominate all over other currencies, all due to its very high demand and the advancing technology. It will be go and satisfy those who clings to it. And massive force of government will push through to ban it. And maybe government vs bitcoin war.
Do not expect. Governments will lead the war against bitcoin. They work with banks in the same boat. Banks cannot exist without government and government cannot exist without banks. And all of them are parasitic on humans. They can't and won't exist without our money. Bitcoin is our chance to escape from the hands of corrupt officials.

that is what worries me too. i want to say these attacks won't be affecting bitcoin because it is decentralized and bigger than the government and banks can cause it any harm but when i look at most of the investors in bitcoin who only are in it for a quick amount of profit and care for nothing else, i say we have a big fight ahead of us which we may not win if we continue this way.
4106  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Bubble and the fact you simply can't sell your BTC for large amount?! on: December 08, 2017, 03:43:23 PM
I'm (or was) a strong Crypto believer, but this problem is seriously questioning my believe...

well, part of being a "Crypto believer" is first knowing that it is called crypto "currency" not crypto "invest for a while and dump for fiat". and also it is believing that you can spend the coins you own now or some day at least.

i know most of this is just talk since we are far away from the day we can spend bitcoin just like we spend cash. but one of the reasons why bitcoin exists is all these issues you just encountered here! the "fiat related issues", the AML/KYC stuff, the ridiculous percentage based fees you have to pay to banks and other payment processing methods, all the waiting, all the invasion of privacy, all the taxes,...
4107  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-08] Bitcoin Price Loses $3,000 in Major Correction on: December 08, 2017, 03:19:18 PM
It must have happened in a flash as I was not aware that Bitcoin made a steep fall of around $3,000 before immediately recovering and surging again.

it was not exactly a "flash" the dip took a couple of hours and price lasted there a while. i think the whole thing was about 6 hours more or less. and the price is currently sitting right in the middle of the price range (max and min)! $15,500 @bitstamp

How many people were able to buy more Bitcoin when it retreated can be a good topic to guess! usually when there is a big dip, whales may decide to come in and buy more and this can create pressure for Inhibitor to go upwards again. I am then hoping that it was the price correction which the market has been anticipating to happen against the surging backdrop. Looking at CMC, Bitcoin is currently listed at $16,450 and I am not complaining.

you can never expect drops like this completely. you can say something like , there has been a big rise so there should be a drop soon. even come up with some prices but it is impossible to say will it be after $16K, $16.5k or $17k but after it starts, sometimes it becomes clear that is why others join in.
4108  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will in a week time when we will hit $20.000 anyone care we just hit $15.000? on: December 08, 2017, 03:04:22 PM
Price went over 18000 so 20000 was like a day away. But we got correction.

these days things are pretty chaotic, when you talk about the price (ATH specifically) you should say which exchange! some of them have very different prices. for example ATH on Coinbase is $19,340 (3.3% less than $20k Cheesy) and it is still about $1000 above the rest of the markets!

i think the Futures that CME promised had a big effect over there in US that is why the price is crazy like this. i just wish it ends well.
4109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 60 Billion Wiped Off in One Day - What's Next? on: December 08, 2017, 02:52:10 PM
Just to make you remember the correction you were talking about has still not come but a big boom has surely arrived. Bitcoin which was nearly 11k when you posted it has reached to 16k breaking all the previous records yet again and I think bitcoin will reach 25K by the end of this year.

OP was probably hoping for a drop 9 days ago to be able to buy in the dip, that is why this topic looks so much like an FUD and not much discussion can be found in it after the dip didn't happen and instead price went up to set some new records Cheesy

as for your 25k, i am no so sure. and i am mostly hoping it doesn't happen. that is a ridiculous rise for this year and it is not going to be a healthy rise. the bear market that can be created because of it is bad.
4110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fees are ridiculous at the moment, will they go down soon? on: December 08, 2017, 02:41:04 PM
it is not just small transactions, it is now extremely expensive to send any bitcoin transaction. the smallest transaction will need at least $16 to have high priority. of course the fee is no different from the last time mempool was this big but the price has gone up drastically which makes it a lot more expensive in $$ terms.

and i think it won't go down soon. it will get worse even in following days and it may even take a month to clear up and that is only assuming the wild rise stops.
4111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About BTC hard fork on: December 08, 2017, 06:25:36 AM
there currently are two kinds of new coins created out of bitcoin:

1. those that were actually created like bitcoin gold (BTG) and bitcoin cash (BCH). and have an actual project and wallet and everything. for these you just have to go to their website and choose a wallet. most of them can be claimed using coinomi wallet.

2. those that were not created! like bitcoin liza, SegWit2x, ... these are more like airdrops that the only way to claim them was to have your bitcoin on an exchange that distributed them like yobit! and dump them as soon as you receive them. or wait a couple of months until they are created and then claim them like #1. but some may never exist like SegWit2x.
4112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Bitcoin Futures on: December 08, 2017, 06:18:34 AM
i think in short term, before the market starts its operation the price will continue rising up as we can see right now and it may even break $20,000 soon but after the market started and the hype stopped, also because that would be a bubble by then, we will see a drop happening. possibly a big one too.

in long term however, the price will rise. because these markets were not just hype. they were also some kind of advertisement for bitcoin and most importantly they proved that bitcoin is legal, a legit investment and something that is good to invest in. and that will increase the adoption and since the supply is limited the price will go up in long term more than it usually does.
4113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Potential Korean War and bitcoin super bull on: December 08, 2017, 06:13:10 AM
i think it is possible.
if it were a couple of years ago, even last year, i would have said the effects won't be much. but this year many things changed about bitcoin and the attitude of people towards it. nowadays many are considering bitcoin as a legit investment and a good one at that too. they are including it in their investments alongside old ones such as gold.
and when something like a war breaks out, many will start thinking about storing their money in a safe place and since bitcoin is one of them now, they will be buying it causing a big bull run.
4114  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I dont like daytrading on: December 07, 2017, 05:51:43 PM
like it or not trading is a part and parcel of anything that has a value. it is not just things like gold, but currencies like USD, JPY,... are being day-traded and goods that we use daily are also being traded in a sense. it is inevitable for bitcoin and other altcoins.

i don't think it is necessarily a bad thing to trade bitcoin. or even day-trade it. but as long as trading, and profit does not overshadow the technology itself. and so far i don't see it doing that.
4115  Economy / Speculation / Re: When BTC will go down on: December 07, 2017, 05:44:46 PM
i was expecting a big drop after the $13,000 price was reached. but that drop ended up being a rather small $1000 one which didn't last long either. then i was expecting another at $15,000 and this one actually happened like the other one too but it was also another small $1000 drop which didn't last long.

right now we are long overdue for a big drop in my opinion and things don't look right to me anymore. we need a correction to push out all the weak hands and to strengthen this current rally for having a better rise in the future.
4116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think the Christmas is increasing the price of bitcoin? on: December 07, 2017, 05:17:29 PM
that has nothing to do with Christmas, that would be weird because people are not so into "giving away" free bitcoin to anyone specially when anything they give can be worth 10 times more in a short while after.

no, this rise is mainly because of bitcoin hitting the mainstream at last. that is what a lot of people were waiting for anyways. and now that the time has finally came, the price is rising like this. although this is partly because of irrational enthusiasm but it is still mostly the adoption behind it.
4117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin surpasses $19,000 on Coinbase! on: December 07, 2017, 05:03:48 PM
i think it was another whale manipulation of the market. i am expecting a dump now. possibly for a short time and maybe a small percentage but a dump nonetheless.

it is a good scheme to make some quick profit anyways, you manipulate the market and then when it goes higher you start selling to cause some panic. and we know market is very ready for a mass panic now. and something like that can initiate it pretty easily.
4118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hidden demand for the Bitcoin on: December 07, 2017, 04:55:13 PM
there is always all kinds of people waiting for all kinds of different things. the total of these always reaches a balance at some point and does it pretty fast.
there will be people wanting to dump because they are scared of a little drop. there are also people who will buy because they are scared of missing out on the drop and the future rise. and there are people who hold and don't care.

at the moment i say there are more people panic buying be cause they are scared of missing out. which is one of the reasons why price just hit $19,340 on coinbase.
4119  Economy / Economics / Re: What's your vision of cryptocurrencies ? on: December 07, 2017, 06:17:26 AM
you are talking about 40 years! nobody can predict anything for that long in my opinion specially when we are talking about bitcoin.
in case you missed it, bitcoin is still "an experiment" the code is still in beta for gods sake Cheesy

it has a huge potential, i am not denying that but it is still a risky investment. and i was saying it even when price was something like $400 and i would have said it even when it was $1.

if you want to invest, then diversify. not to altcoins but to other usual investments like gold or whatever you think is good.

altcoins are good but i do not trust them for long term investment. i prefer them as a short one to just trade and make more profit on my bitcoin that is my real long term investment.
4120  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC surpasses 13k! on: December 07, 2017, 06:05:19 AM
Do you reckon this means we're now due a steep correction like last week and theres opportunity to take some profits right now and buy on the dip?

the rise doesn't show any sign of slow down, despite the small drop that we had after the ATH. i would personally stop buying but also i won't sell. it is best to wait a little to see which way it is going. if you have bought so much lower then you have a much bigger room to wait. then sell because the drop can technically be big. i would place buy orders after i sold around $10,000 and down towards $9000

Quote
You just never know with BTC, people keep speculating like its a regular stock and any spike = imminent correction but it just continues to defy all expectations and surge!

it is mainly because of all the fresh money that is coming in due to these Futures Markets that are opening up. so it is explainable despite being abnormal and big.
