4181  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should I start escrowing accounts? on: August 01, 2020, 10:47:41 AM
Meanwhile, the account seller can use the risk of a red tag to make a potential buyer send him funds without escrow:
What's the buyer's motive of wanting to get a ranked account? And how does a tag limit them from achieving their objective? Shouldn't the risk of getting red tagged and potentially getting scammed discourage one from actually trying to buy an account?

Account sales is similar to a can of worms and any user willing to still jump through the hoops to buy one is probably trying to do something unethical with it. I highly doubt any trusted escrow provider would be willing to facilitate such a deal.
Imo there are two potential options;
• The admins outrightly banning account sales, so there's no ambiguity to the rules, or
• DTs reaching a consensus on the response to such cases.
With the diversity in the DT group, a consensus is unlikely. That leaves the first option. But that's up to the admins.

Is this something we (as a community) can improve?
It's not much, but tagging account sellers should serve as enough deterrent for those conscious of the forum to avoid trying to purchase one. However, not all sales can be accounted for however as some happen in private and off the forum.
4182  Economy / Speculation / Re: How Accurate Is The Bitcoin Market Capital? on: August 01, 2020, 07:28:04 AM
3) it has nothing to do with volume and exchanges or sites like CMC can only fake volume.
I think the OP was asking about how trading volume could impact the price, and how the inflation of those volumes by exchanges could manipulate the market price of Bitcoin and by extension the market cap. There's also the case of OTC trades which are done off the market to suppress the impact it may have had on the market price, which is also a form on manipulation.
Granted, the price, circulating supply and market cap cannot be manipulated directly in the case of Bitcoin..

OP, you could try averaging the values on various price tracking website to avoid relying on information from just one
4183  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cryptotrader interview on: August 01, 2020, 07:04:45 AM
Most users here on the forum look out to protect their privacy and I doubt they will be willing to divulge personal contact information, which would be needed for a call nor would they want to reveal their full identity through a video call.
You should follow the above advise to get more generalized opinions or contact users who you've identified as active traders (you can find out through their posting style) for more specific responses.
4184  Economy / Economics / Re: Philippines will drop as a Country, Economy on its worst! on: July 31, 2020, 07:27:41 PM
The same scenario is playing out in a couple of other nations, especially those which did not react quickly to the rise of the pandemic. The situation in Philippines is however exacerbated by the actions of the government which has little regard for the lives of it's citizenry. With the lower class being worst hit.
how will you react if you're one of us staying on the same country...
• Firstly, you should take adequate precautions to avoid getting infected by the virus, while also building your immune system using vitamins to protect you in case you contract it.
• I will advise also taking precautions to protect your funds. Economies worldwide are contracting and thus would likely lead to inflation and a drop in the value of currencies. To prevent this you could hold your funds in more stable assets.
4185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will touch the high price in 2020? on: July 31, 2020, 07:17:17 PM
I'm more concerned with price sustainability than the highest peak reached. During the previous ATH the price peaked at almost $20k at the end of the year, however the average price throughout the year was much lower than that, and the price quickly plummeted after that.

So far this year we have witnessed increased stability, registering the highest annual average price. If we can have slow organic growth Bitcoin could attain and maintain high peaks, rather than a rinse and repeat profiting.
Of course, there has to be drops after spikes due to speculation and panic sellers (who fear a price drop),  but if this correction is not too wide, it would be a huge positive and could lead to more adoption of bitcoin.
4186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting / replyingHi on: July 31, 2020, 04:45:00 PM
As a brandnew, then newbie user, you have limit that only one post for 6 minutes. I guess it is your trouble
This thread is the first post made by the user, so cool down time is likely not the reason as they would have not made any post prior to their failed attempt to post in the marketplace section. It's likely a glitch from the user's end.
4187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting / replyingHi on: July 31, 2020, 04:33:29 PM
Can you link the thread you are trying to relply to here, I'm not aware of any general restriction to posting in that board.
Is it possible the thread you are attempting to reply to is locked?
4188  Other / Meta / Re: Defi section? on: July 31, 2020, 04:19:23 PM
Do we have some section in forum for Defi projects and new tokens listings?
To answer your question, no, there's no specific section dedicated to DeFi on the forum, but it can fit into a variety of boards in the altcoins' section depending on the context of the topic.
DeFi has attracted quite a number of discussions and could have a child board, this however is up to the admins to decide, for now you can use the forum search option to discover posts and replies related to it.
4189  Economy / Reputation / Re: This user was scammed by bitcointalk account seller (Deserve Tag?) on: July 31, 2020, 04:11:47 PM
Buying accounts is technically not against the forum rules, but it's unethical and highly discouraged. It shows an attempt to cheat the system and is most likely a means to simply monetize the forum or attempt to scam other users using a higher ranked account. Also, the buyer in an account sale is as complacent as the seller and getting scammed does not indemnify them.

The users' profile is new but it's difficult to tell if the owner of the account is, it's also impossible to tell the motive of the purchase. Imo, a neutral or negative could be appropriate.
4190  Other / Meta / Re: buying back my account on: July 31, 2020, 03:54:31 PM
I havent had access to this account since 2016 unfortunately and i dont remember having any secret answer or anything of the sort. I have access to the email used to register the account and can verify nearly all transactions/addresses pre 2015
Secret question is not a required feature and not everyone has it set up. When an accounts' details are changed, a mail is sent to the original email address to confirm this change or recover the password, this link expires after a couple of days so it's likely no good now.

Theymos hinted that it's possible to recover an account even without a signed message from a previously posted address, send a mail to the recovery address, preferably from the original email and provide as much information as possible. Good luck!
4191  Other / Meta / Re: buying back my account on: July 31, 2020, 02:39:45 PM
I just want to make sure that noone but me can use that account to post anything further etc.
As the account is banned no one would be able to post through it, however the previous holder of the account who is in control of the valid login details would be able to; access the account on a read only basis, including posts and private messages, and recently there have been cases of this means being used to scam people (users claiming ownership of banned accounts as they can read the messages sent to it).

If you had secret question enabled, you can use that means to lock the account by attempting to recover the password through it. This should prevent any access.
4192  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy suffers worst decline as GDP contracts by 32.9% in the second quarter on: July 31, 2020, 06:19:06 AM
Trump's promises were merely political in my view and a bid to instill voter confidence as elections draw near. So much damage has already been done to businesses and as such there has to be a period of recovery where the market normalises (or the economy ceases to contract), after which, the nation can enter a period of economic expansion. Which is the phase the U.S has been in since the last recession.

The economic decline is the direct result of the effect of a pandemic, so trying to flatten the curve is one of the best routes to rebuilding the economy and not pumping more money into the market. Although this is needed to keep businesses afloat, but needs to be done in hand with slowing the spread of the virus and it also needs to be done holistically; injection funds into select businesses could create a greater gap between classes and further hurt the economy to the gain of a few.

My submission: Roo'land

I combined some of Roobet's designs with my idea to create this artwork.
•The sea-saw depicts balance between the players and Roobet to show Roobet is provably fair
•The background was chosen to represent summer

4194  Other / Meta / Re: I wonder why people don't delete their post but cancel them instead. on: July 30, 2020, 06:18:28 AM
I see it used in such situations where the initial content of the reply or post has been extensively discussed in that thread and quoted repeatedly. Deleting or editing such post may confuse someone reading it later on, a strike through on the other hand would give an idea of the original content which spurred discussion, it would be kind of awkward editing a post which has been replied to based on the actual topic of discussion (deleting topics is not allowed).
This is the practical use I can think of including maintaining transparency, at other times it's usually used for humour.
4195  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "Signature Campaign" does work for marketing? on: July 29, 2020, 09:43:17 PM
You could organize a test run and see how effective it is by checking how much traffic your signature created for your website. There are many good means of advertising and they are all effective if done efficiently. Some campaigns prioritize quantity over quality, thinking that spamming their signature across the forum would bring more results, this does more harm than good most of the time.
You however can not go wrong if you hire one of the top managers as they are quite experienced in handling projects.

4198  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Masks rule goes into effect in England as Boris Johnson calls anti-vaxxers 'nuts on: July 29, 2020, 08:16:33 AM
Not sure on the science behind comparing the spread of stuff coming out of your mouth when it comes to face mask / face shield -- though I assume that it'd be more helpful to wear BOTH or just wear the mask.
It will. It's also more about what's coming in than going out. When on a face mask the air you breath is filtered as it passes through it, this doesn't happen in the case of a face shield as the air comes from the openings around it, it offers some protection, but the virus isn't completely airborne but present in droplets when an infected person releases it through sneezing, coughing, or talking before falling to a surface. If one is in close contact with an infected person they could easily breath the droplets around them in.

4200  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to reduce MegaSpam threads . on: July 28, 2020, 09:12:48 PM
OP isn't suggesting an auto-lock feature, just that mods would take a look at it.
By automated, I meant a system where a certain number of reports from a certain rank would be a threshold to get the attention of the mods which the OP was suggesting, and as one report could do the job I felt this would be unnecessary.

I don't know if others agree with me that signature campaigns bounty managers are somehow responsible of this issue, as they accept counting posts in any thread.
I agree with this, especially with bounty projects. Most of the current signature campaign managers do well to handle spam by carefully selecting the people to wear their signatures as well as reducing the minimum post requirement. This would lead to less spam as users are not forced to post more then they would naturally do.
