421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Growth Nears Ceiling, Ethereum Co-Founder Buterin Says on: September 13, 2018, 03:07:59 PM
He also said ETH is worth $10, he has a big brain and is a great programmer/innovator but that doesn't make him an expert on all things (economy) too  Roll Eyes

I also would like to add to OP beyond simply verifying links, it's always worth to use for example the NoScript plugin on your browser

I've never used it, but at a glance it appears you would lose some of the functionality of the forum at the same time. To each there own though, and if it works for you that's good.

you only need to click the (S) icon in top right and add the url to allowed, try visit some other sites and you'll see how often there's 10-20 different sites running some type of script (advertisement, tracking, maybe mining?) stuff. it's a very useful addon and removes a lot of "risky" elements!
423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How involved are you in your invested project development? on: September 13, 2018, 06:43:49 AM
I think that's quite uncommon considering how few people on average has any expertise when it comes to the development side, sure there's probably plenty of people who are capable(and do), but to ask such a general question will probably only bring replies like those that has already come in!
424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ✅✅Beginner's info about PUMP AND DUMP - How to recognize🔴 on: September 13, 2018, 06:41:28 AM
Your post is only a link to advertise your website, how about writing an actual post here instead so it's easier to discuss?
I don't know if it's allowed or not to do it this way you are doing it, but I don't get the point of it beyond solely wanting free clicks!
425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [PSA] Don't trust the person you just met on the internet. on: September 13, 2018, 06:40:07 AM
Your thread is useful and it can help many people to avoid being scammed or stolen. I often check 3 following things to avoid cautious links & attachments:
1. Check senders' IP address via google
2. Check for grammar mistakes or language using or even plagiarism of words/ ideas
3. Check email address

Where do you mean you'd get the IP? do you mean checking email headers or something?

I also would like to add to OP beyond simply verifying links, it's always worth to use for example the NoScript plugin on your browser
426  Other / Off-topic / Re: Facebook Timeline on: September 09, 2018, 01:39:01 PM
it looks a lot like how it looks while using noscript (or equivalent) on some sites, are you sure you're not using any of those and are blocking the content sources?
and also what does this have to do with bitcoin!  Shocked
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Director Blockstram: Cash, Bitcoin is vulnerable to 51 attack% on: September 08, 2018, 02:35:33 PM
There has been 51% attacks in other coins too, I think one big part to consider with Bitcoin is that simply due to being around since day one it's very well distributed And the most secure and most proven, even if Bitcoin Cash is a fork, it never had the support from the majority community and people were basically forced to give bitcoin cash it's volume and price early on. A complete waste, since Bitcoin can itself acheive whatever Bitcoin Cash might want to do..
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Jobless No More on: September 08, 2018, 02:02:37 PM
Bounties can't really be considered a job can it, the absolute majority of bounties aren't worth anything and most of these bounties doesn't actually create any real value, nor does it pay anything of real value. One should probably try to find an actual job!
429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Learn from my mistakes as a newbie! on: September 07, 2018, 09:23:54 PM
I get the impression you really fell for the crypto hype early on and therefore lost money? I personally would like to add that when it comes to investments, never invest in 1. something that already is pumping and 2. make sure you know yourself what it is you are investing in, and why! Once it reaches twitter you can assume the timeframe to buy and then sell for a profit is very narrow, it's the trap way too many people seem to get stuck in. But, it's good to bring up points like these!  Grin
430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOW TO GENERATE/GET BTC or ETH WALLET?? on: September 07, 2018, 02:26:00 AM
With the little research I have carried out so far I learnt that without ETH or BTC wallet one can not trade or invest here in the crypto world because those wallet serves as bank account for every member and each member is in full control of his/her wallet. How do we generate or get this wallet and secure our funds in it since crypto is full of risk and we are responsible for anything that happen to our funds?? please I need more emphasis on this I will be grateful if you can help me and my fellow beginners to learn more about this thanks....

that's a thorough text for such a simple request! you need to know more about crypto I judge, from what you write.
the easiest way if you just want to 'trade' btc/eth/few others, is just sign up on www.coinbase.com. they provide you with a wallet, however (as I mention in the thread I linked to earlier), you don't have full access to it, you have to go through them. but it's not too bad if you're a beginner since it's otherwise quite easy to make mistakes. I suggest doing more research about how wallets function so you understand the differences.

Wallets are essentially a Private Key, and a Public Key, where the Private Key is in ways a "password", and the Public Key is "username".
If you wish to receive crypto, someone sends it to your Public Key.
if you wish to send crypto, you must 'authorize' using your Private Key.
that is the simple way to put it.

Different blockchains has different wallets, you can't use a BTC wallet to receive ETH, but you can use ETH to receive lots of popular tokens, since tokens live on an existing blockchain(such as ETH tokens).
So, when obtaining a wallet, you will be provided with a private key in some form, if you don't choose to use an exchanges provided wallet.
https://wallet.bitcoin.com/ <- bitcoin wallet with actual username/password, simple but then not 100% in your control.
https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/ <- literally just gives you a generated public and private key, which is up to you to keep safe.
https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet <- lots of choices, Desktop, Hardware, Web, etc
hardware wallets such as Trezor or Ledger are safe and very easy to use and you can't lose your funds, so it's a good investment.

for ETH, you can use www.myetherwallet.com or find a paper-wallet generator.
the same goes for other blockchains.

If you go the route of generating and holding your own Private Key, ensure you are generating it safely(virus at any time when generating/using your private key = funds gone), and keep backups like a printed copy or backup seeds or encrypted files. In general, I really do suggest getting a hardware wallet because it removes the whole layer of human mistake from the equation! I suggest reading the thread I linked earlier!

But, if you have little interest in crypto and not too used to computers, for your own safety you might want to just start with www.coinbase.com or another fiat-exchange, put in your money, buy btc/whatever you want, let the site "hold" them for you, until you figure out fully how it works with your own wallet. too many people lose their keys, or have viruses or gets hacked over and over and lose all their money. Even if relying on a third party(a site) isn't the brightest idea, it atleast doesn't put you at risk for yourself!  Grin

I wrote a guide about wallets that might be worth reading so you don't end up losing your coins in the end:

or, you can just go here: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: New price of ETH on: September 06, 2018, 12:18:30 PM
I think there's reason to assume ETH will continue to be the biggest loser for a while to come, it's not a good idea to buy in right now (in my opinion), I'm not an expert. I'd say if anything, hold bitcoin until signs of the actual bullrun and then switch over to ETH.
433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Economist Nouriel Roubini “ " blockchain is the biggest fraud of the century” on: September 06, 2018, 12:14:53 PM
That's stupid to say, clearly blockchain is in early stages! Just as the internet was slow initially, surely we can find one method capable of properly scaling. I wonder how much knowledge this "economist" has? An economist knows economy and not programming technology.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New and like to use MEW, heres how :) on: September 05, 2018, 05:59:53 PM
While it is a safe wallet to use, it's very important that the generation/safekeeping of keys are done in a safe environment as well as ensuring that the site is the legit one(there was a few months ago some DNS reroute thing?) and there are other phising scams. If someone is looking for more wallet information I made a post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3576100  Smiley
435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paper wallets or hardware wallets on: September 05, 2018, 05:58:20 PM
I dislike that the FAQ page isn't very accurate about the hardware wallets. It's just "as much work" to store the paper wallet vs storing the recovery seed for a hardware wallet, so if one is capable of storing a paper wallet, one can also store the recovery seed - which means, one doesn't lose anything just because their hardware wallet breaks! I'm not sure how fair it's to talk about trusting a third party, for example Trezor is open source atleast which should mean that the code is verifiable and noone really has to trust anyone, but well the point might be valid. Either way, the first part mentioned about it being safe aslong as one generates their paper wallet safely <- that's the big catch with it, since so many people in general doesn't really know much about keeping their computer safe, and probably will end up generating it in a "risky environment", in the long run, for a beginner, it's definitely easier to just use a hardware wallet.
436  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Intro to bitcoin on: September 05, 2018, 01:29:02 PM
Clearly one can't actually learn anything about bitcoin, and secondly wouldn't this require quite a lot of work before one could even withdraw their very modest earnings? It seems like one could put the same amount of time into literally any type of work and earn many times more than that and simply .. buy bitcoin!  Cool
437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for ICO with lot of potential on: September 05, 2018, 11:30:07 AM
as has been mentioned, at the very least thorougly research any ICOs mentioned, but there's always lots of potential ICOs out there, just need to find them. The majority of projects fail, including many good ones! I made a thread here about analysing ICOs: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3760625 it has some tips Grin
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Boring Ethereum on: September 05, 2018, 11:04:38 AM
$1k would need a market cap of $100b = 4x, I don't think there's much news coming out around eth for a while? considering how much eth has dropped lately, partly due to all the ICOs dumping their eth, just holding btc is probably a wiser choice as it generally outpeforms the market movements (higher gains, lower loss).
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does a Successful ICO Really Require $$$$ on: September 04, 2018, 11:48:53 PM
That's the issue today/since start of the year - the sheer amount of money gone into projects that has no product, little to no capability to create the product they want, and finally there's very little reason for their product to exist. It's a great way to fund projects, and it's important in terms of the "decentralization" I guess (to get their crypto in circulation and distributed well), but plenty of actually good projects find funding elsewhere.

Of course, any company and any idea generally needs money, the more the better, but way too many projects in the crypto sphere has been given money for nothing!
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which country would profit most by endorsing crypto for their citizens? on: September 04, 2018, 11:45:05 PM
Countries bank's control the economy and then by extension, the country! therefore with crypto, no 'country' will want adoption of crypto, that's probably why these economical "giants" come out and call bitcoin a scam over and over, trying to scare people away from it. If everyone's using crypto, the banks can't take their usual cuts, earning money from nothing, creating money from thin air!

Although that doesn't really reply to the question. Why would Asia do better than Europe by 'endorsing crypto'?
