Can't speak to how it will do in your area, but I used the prototype version at Liberty Forum 2013 and it was literally the easiest and fastest way I've ever bought BTC. If you believe that there will soon be a large demand for BeeTeeCees in the near future and you have a nice piece of real estate to plop it down on, then maybe it'll be worth it.

I'm thinking of buying one of these. Ive got a spot I could set it up, and I'm wondering what you think of the idea..

I could set it in up in my home town, which is subsequently an international air and sea port.
www.thelandingmall.com is a stones throw from the ferry terminal to Victoria which is where I plan to place it.

I have this idea that Vancouver island will come to use it, as well as the greater Seattle area. Or maybe they wouldn't want to endure the short drive.. Thoughts? What do you all think the demand will be for atm access?

Am I alone in not being too concerned about this?

KNC are going to offer cloud based hashing - great.  Why wouldn't they? I would too.
They are offering an iron clad guarantee of hashing delivery date (cloud or physical). Super.

Batch 0 preorders were $3k cheaper and 3-4 weeks sooner than batch 1, and the same price but 6-8 weeks before batch 2.
Clearly KNC have a history of looking after their existing customers, and this seems to continue in this vein.  They could so easily get the data centre up and running and taking orders while we wait for our Neptune's....

This is just the next chapter of this interesting crypto story that we will be able to say in 20 years time we were at the centre of and the trailblazers for.....

ahhhhh you're making TOO MUCH SENSE!!

Please correct this assumption, but it looks to me like KNC is trying to induce more of us to cancel orders. Is it possible they'd rather just keep the machines, and are doing everything they can to make us cancel?

Now that we've bankrolled, we can be cut loose and stop dragging them down...
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 04, 2014, 08:18:12 PM
Well, not sure I cloaked my question well or what, but obviously what I'm saying is that I am not sure how this new information shapes the landscape. I am hoping that you all keep chatting it up so I can make more sense of it.

I want my Neptune, I don't want it hosted because I'm a god damn geek and I want to geek out with my hardware. I can't very well do that if they host it.

Thank you! Exactly! I bought a neptune which was sold as a physical device, never a hosting plan. "we all know" mining btc never achieves ROI in BTC, we buy the hardware for fun.

A hosted hashrate that i can't control and i will never actually own is not what was sold and it is not what anyone bought.

KnC have tried to give a resolution for if delays occur to protect people and everyone has flipped out and interpreted which ever left right up down way they have chosen. So much FUD spread in a few hours.

What are your plans for your Neptune order?
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 04, 2014, 08:13:43 PM
Will someone please explain both sides of this

It's smart to keep your Neptune order because:

It's smart to refund your Neptune order because:

I'd like to see both sides state their logic.
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 04, 2014, 07:26:13 PM
For the first time I am considering a refund quite seriously. I think I may refund and buy BTC. Anyone else share my sentiment?

It was always a gamble and still is.

I am sticking with KNC.

I would greatly appreciate you going in to detail about how you view things right now. for isntance:

  • projected difficulty
  • possibility of ROI
  • altcoin mining
  • etc, anything else

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

This all is a big smoke screen it seems. I'm trying to make sense out of it and am having av difficult time.

I have a batch 1 order. Wtf does this mean? I don't see how this info helps me make an intelligent decision... Do I hodl or bail and reinvest elsewhere?

what is your expectation of profit?  If you can make more profit doing anything else with your capital then of course, move it

I want my Neptune, I don't want it hosted because I'm a god damn geek and I want to geek out with my hardware. I can't very well do that if they host it. However, if it means the difference between recovering part or all of my investment... then I would let them host it for a bit. Like 2short says, "you should be gett'n while the get'n is good." Finance trumps satisfying my inner geek, but I dont understand if they'll ship it to me when I want it? I've paid for shipping which isn't cheap and moving forward, I may be mining on altcoins if that seems advantageous....Thoughts? What does it all MEEEAAANN?

We have indeed hijacked this thread a tad, i've PMed the OP asking if he's alright and offering to help him contact local services if he needs it.

See OP - there are people who actually care Smiley Just brush/laugh off the comments from those bullies. Take it one day at a time Smiley

+1

Don't do it! You'll make back more than you lost, it just will take some drive.

Also, don't come to bitcointalk when you're feeling down... probably the worst place to be.

Instead of blow, maybe LSD?

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. That's like handing a child a can of gasoline and a lit flare. The last thing you want to be when under the influence of LSD is to be struggling with any sort of emotional or psychological imbalance... holy crap why on earth would you suggest that?
434  Other / Off-topic / Re: First bitcoin related suicide? on: January 28, 2014, 03:51:06 PM
If I was suicidal, I was disappear in Mexico, do blow and hookers then decide. Suicide can wait and it's always an option.

This is actually the best advice so far... Just go have fun and see what happens. One day at a time. Etc.

+1. There's actually a strong correlation to your brain chemistry, and nothing changes that faster than alittle blow. Maybe blow some steam off, then reassess your life. Try focusing on anything or any one you enjoy or like, or perhaps love?

definitely, like someone else said, a perm solution for a temp problem. Not a good idea...
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 27, 2014, 11:07:09 PM
I guess that explains the big dip in prices today. Ah well.

So can they prove that he knowingly sold Bitcoin to users who then went to directly buy drugs from Silk Road with them?

Should be interesting to see what happens. I personally never used Silk Road (got into BTC afterwards) and though I can admire it's rise from nothingness, it still sucks that it's tarnishing Bitcoin's image so much.

This is a complete red herring. This doesn't really change anything... why are people freaking?

edit: I'd think that this is much more deserving of our focus: http://en.ria.ru/business/20140127/186966541/Russias-Central-Bank-Bitcoin-Users-Can-Face-Jail-Time.html
436  Bitcoin / Project Development / Blockchain is too large? on: January 24, 2014, 10:21:14 PM
I'm probably not posting this in the correct location, so please move it as need be.

First off, I'm not completely up to speed to on development efforts. However, I became aware of an effort to decrease the size of blockchain. My understanding is that the problem with it being so large, and continuing to grow, is one of overhead to do the work of verifying transactions which use coins that have long histories.

Is this a correct understanding?

What sort of ideas are floating around to resolve this?

So, its clear that I don't know what ideas are out there. My idea has probably already been shared and addressed. And, if it has please explain why the concept won't work. But here's my concept.

Once a transaction is verified on the network, doesn't it seem redundant that the same body of work be performed the next time the coin is part of a transaction?

Why not establish a method to flag and prune coins at a certain limit of transactions?

The life of a coin with this mechanism in place would be...

1. Miner creates COIN
2. COIN is sent and split into multiple transactions
3. Once each piece of that COIN reaches X number of transactions, flag for pruning
4. When any piece of the coin is spent at a future transaction, the miner would evoke the algorithm on its copy of the blockchain
5. The algorithm should purge that coin and replace it with a clean one.

Is this a stupid idea that illustrates my lack of understanding?

Would it be possible to perform a synchronized replacement of that coin?

Not surprised by the amount of refunds lately, actually expected more. With Cointerra, Black arrow and Bitmine all likely shipping prior to Knc it just seems like a very bad deal. Even with 30% diff jumps it won't be profitable and I doubt we'll see that in february and march.

Not trying to take a jab at those of you who decide to keep yours, I just think it's sad that Knc aren't even trying to let their customers make money

In fact, there's good reason to think many of them won't ship at all. The reasons I'm referring to are KNCminer having delivered and the failure of others to do the same.

Dude, HashFast is shipping in bulk. Cointerra is like 99% ready. Bitmine has taped out and got their chips... you´re kind of looking like:

Sure, that's a good point. What percentage of the promises these manufacturers have made will hold up, in your opinion?

Anything can happen, but to make a statement like you have is erroneous. If you were to gather information and make an accurate statement, it would be that KNC is likely to deliver in the time frame in which they've outlined because they have made good on that promise in the past which is the only piece of information that is of any importance to this conversation(mostly because KNC has been so tight lipped). On the flip side, the only information we have that can indicate the likely outcome of other manufacturers is the fact that there have been multiple scams and failures.

As much as we'd all like to give more value to our emotional assessment of things, we must look at hard facts. There aren't a lot of them... which is why this thread is two billion pages long, people are jumping ship, and there is general panic overtaking some people. I believe much of this panic is because lots of these people have "invested" money they really shouldn't have. Others whom seem to respond much more intelligently and calmly are likely solid, financially, and indeed "speculated" with money they can afford to lose.

Do I want to lose 13,200 bux? No. Can I lose 13,200 bux and would my life not be impacted? Yes, but my "feeling" is that, as I read many of people's reactions, these individuals cannot say the same. If you are freaking the F out over not getting ROI in seven days you have some very rigid expectations.  Normalize your expectations and you'll find your perspective of this whole thing is a bit more sane.

My requirement? N O T H I N G. This is a complete gamble, and if you don't think it is you're freaking tripp'n!  Best case scenario expectation? BTC to da moon and diff between 5 and 10 b. What is my expectation for what I think is the likely scenario? Diff closer to 10b, price having moderately increase, perhaps 1,500 - 2,000. Worst case scenario is diff of 20 billion and price crash below 500. Do I think my "feelings" are correct? I haven't the faintest clue...
