For some reason, I don't give two shits when someone says they have an economics degree.

Maybe it's because such degrees are frequently held by people like Ben Bernanke.

Gotta agree with you on this point.

Not singling out the OP as I'm sure there are some educated people out there that are very good at their profession, but generally I too have little faith in 'professional' opinions. It would be safe to say that most professionals only parrot what they have been taught by their relevant institution. Doesn't make it right, and Bernanke is a perfect example.

Lol these were servers though so I doubt they generated much hash power. Don't think its the norm to run a video card on a server?

Wtf is it with all these threads? Do people actually send money to these guys?

On a side note mods, how about we have a forum for this type of post? The forums are littered with them.

...solution free to all subscribers...
What does that mean to you, they never had subscribers (ie monthly payments), do you mean existing members?

I understood that to mean everyone that had an account/was listed as trading through MtGox. And yes I mean existing prior to the hack.

Paypal:
I was talking about this from 2007 for $5

It was never free (back then) for common or premium, only Business.

Ah, yes your right. I was a business customer when these tokens were first introduced. My bad.
4228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox - T-Minus 23 Hours and 15 Minutes until Launch on: June 23, 2011, 06:20:37 AM

Maybe you and mjsbuddha are both right: You pay for a subscription, and then it is free to all subscribers?
Whatever, Paypal charges $5 for a security upgrade, but it's a one time fee.

Well no I dont think its badly worded. What I'm saying is Tux said verbally he would be providing this solution free to all subscribers, but hes changed that stance according to this latest announcement (ie it is now only going to be free for users who's trades were effectively cancelled during the the sell-off)?

And Paypal actually provided the RSA tokens FREE when they were first integrated into their system, for ALL paypal users. It was later that they introduced a fee for new subscribers. I still pay nothing for the token they gave me.
4229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox - T-Minus 23 Hours and 15 Minutes until Launch on: June 23, 2011, 05:47:50 AM

are you seriously telling me there will be subscription based security features that users will have to PAY for?! give you money to make sure this doesn't happen again? that's called extortion.

Didn't Tux say in his interview that this would be free to all subscribers?

4236  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: They should rename Bitcoins to Hoardcoins because no one is spending. on: June 23, 2011, 12:55:12 AM
i have talked to some businesses accepting bitcoins and none of them has had a customer using BTC.

everyone is hoarding for speculation and no one is using it as real money.

I think the issue is theres a lot of people sitting back at the moment waiting to see where the dust settles with regards to the current 'real' value of BTC.

Add to that the fact a lot of people cant even access their coins atm, and you have very few people left who are actually spending coins.
4237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 8:09 am in japan! on: June 23, 2011, 12:08:30 AM
Not much point in giving people access back until they are ready to open trading again. And that wont happen until they have a good proportion of the 60,000 users reactivated.

Interesting...

I too agree with one of the respondents in that I think bitcoin has proven its resilience after the mtgox hax and has generated a lot of interest via media attention. I suspect that once trading resumes bitcoin price will remain static as holders of Bitcoins panic sell and new buyers enter the market. I suspect though this balance will swing very quickly creating a new 'high' as new buyers flood the market.
