I have part of a gun.

Strangely, I found the stock of some sort of smith and wesson hand gun when cleaning up some blackberry overgrowth.  I don't know where the rest of the gun is nor do I know how long it was under the berries.

could you post a photo? I may want it.

Pretty soon it will become a list of which merchants are not accepting bitcoin, rather than the vice versa. How that affects the overall value and market cap remains to be seen since most meechants are immediately converting back to their local currency. Im pretty sure some of the merchants will start keeping a portion of BTC in their own portfolio and cashing out only a portion.

..and.....we're back on TOPIC!!

I think you're right, that'd be the smart thing to do if not just for long term savings.

I'm definitely looking forward to the lists of merchants not accepting bitcoin.

have we an overview of how many neptune refunds there were?

well i'm in for 2 neptunes one batch 1 (very earlynumber) one batch 2 (very early number).... so 2Th for around $7,788.67 is my share.
My two the brothers wanted in after my Oct Jupiter success and I asked them about about dumping the 2nd miner but like all noobs
(i remember that is what i thought) they want to keep the miner....ah miniing the security blanket when i was a noob.........

buying BTC straight if i can rember back that far was too scary..(ah...my noob youth when I ordered a jupiter i think btc was 150 bucks or so..sigh).....

so if things get real weird in 1 month i re-float the idea of dumping the 2nd neptune....but till then....will have to see what happens

but truth be told with the kind of difficulty rate we will have this year..especially for people just experimenting with usb miner lots of people around the world in my view...
ebay coming on board etc or whatever even at a loss on all this just all those people scrambling to learn and to
just to get into bitcoin..i am thinking a massive amount of folks jumping in at least a little.....the good news is lots of people..the bad news ROI or NO ROI that is gonna be a lot of hash

imho diff will go up hit a high in march/april and probably just stay at the diff percentage thru till fall or so.....it is gonna be nuts....

so again imho (remember i know zip just saying) when we are looking at 20k machines this fall that mine 0.10 btc from the get go. and are happy at that then...BTC had better go up
as a result of all this renewed hype about bitcoin...or quite frankly we are all scr*wed.....that much difficulty and GH and the price flatlines and goes down would be well...shudder....

but again imho .....it may take a while but even then probably less then a year....and the long way around but I should get more then ROI back (of course the arguement is probalby correct that i'd get more if
i dumped 2nd neptune or both now and buy btc)...but if this is what it takes to get the brothers some BTC so be it

the joys of bitcoin .....never a dull moment....

crosses fingers

Searing

p.s. if it was just me i'd dump the 2nd neptune and probably be pretty "puckered up" on the 1st neptune to tell you the truth....i will revist this in 1 month with the brothers thou....

After reading the first few lines, I thought it'd be stupid to read this entire post. But, I did... and it was. I am mentally numb now and where is up? What's your point? I respond and ask because I'm so completely confused by the way your thoughts end up in text on my screen.

The correct motivation is seeing opportunity.

Fear gets you going backward.  Seeing the possibilities moves you forward.  Indeed, that is scary to many people - and that's a good thing because it leaves the field open for the rest of us who choose to forge ahead, create, expand while exploring new opportunities that scare the timid masses.

I am in complete agreement with what you're saying... no need to preach about that here, go post in the KNC thread about this. They're the ones who need a pep talk. But I wouldn't hold by breath for the outcome of your attempts to calm them. Fear has taken hold and its obvious that these people aren't good investors. First, they're much too worried about ROI and they're jumping ship way too easily. Nothing significat has changed!

Interestingly, KnC will have facility in Iceland at some point:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/10/KnCMiner-interview/?ncid=rss_truncated
at 11:30-11:45min ("[Iceland...]That's where eventually we'll go")

Wait and see.  It won't be the young guys getting the promotions who see their relatives moving to Iceland, but the relatives on their wives' side.  The wives will adjust with their kids of course but the homesickness will have them describing their new lives very glowingly to their parents, the maternal grandparents of the kids that are moved.  and for the kids, the ideal is for kids to start in a good school and move on up thru grades with as many of the early schoolmates for as far up as is possible.  It makes a different social sense than is had by children who are relocated in grammar school.  Those who don't move are much more capable of finding a position in a social structure as an adult.  Moving in childhood raises the possibility of being a loner.

wow, I didn't expect that angle. Kind of off topic but a good point.... but then again not sure how that relates to KNC and the Neptune.

Enjoying it now!  Cool

Let's see who will throw next.

right now the snowball fight seems to be between KNC customers. Half are freaking the F out, the others of us are in HODL mode.

The sky is falling crowd: "Everyone jump ship before it sinks!"

The optimistic crowd: "HODL... H O   D     L!"

It's difficult to not be drawn into this cyclical conversation. One thing is certain in mind is that many are overreacting by jumping ship already, we're not even in the home stretch yet.

Why are half the KNC customers freaking the F out?

The same motivator that MOST people base decisions on their entire lives: FEAR!
447  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: January 23, 2014, 08:33:52 PM
Has anyone seen a difference between the cgminer reported hashrate and pool reported?

Cgminer shows a steady 500GH for me at 650mhz but btcguild says around ~455gh.

Cgminer is showing me 422GH/s at stock speeds. Eligius shows < 400GH/s.

Where do you go to adjust the clock speed? I haven't been able to figure out if it's a cgminer option or somewhere else in the firmware.

Mining pools are known to report inaccurate hash rates. This is because they do not average results or even monitor them. It takes snap shots from specific points in time which have no relation to your actual output. It's a good indication, but certainly not a real-time gauge of your productivity.

I see the snowball effect happening.  As more companies accept Bitcoin payments, their competition are forced to follow suit or risk being left behind in the dust.  The momentum builds upon itself so that each stage is far bigger than the last.

Bitcoin is on a roll.  And it has only just begun.

Sit back and enjoy the scenery. Smiley
450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnC Miner list of orders - Neptune on: January 23, 2014, 06:46:23 PM
How will the massive refunded purchases affect the total number of Neptunes that will hit the network when they're released?
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 23, 2014, 04:50:45 PM
What's everyones problem?

They did say Q1/Q2 2014 on the contract you purchased.

Q2 = end of June 2014!

They're not even in breach of contract yet?  Tongue

No other manufacturer even has a 3TH miner on the drawing board!

I agree. This is crazy, the blind leading the blind. "Everyone jump ship!" someone said, "Everyone refund, now!."

Uhm... no. You refund, I'm fine.

Nothing significant has changed in the time between when we ordered and now. People really need to get a grip... All great battles are hard fought.  Right now, this is like being in the trenches. HODL and calm down.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 11:29:05 PM
Think again. $40k gets you 5 TH delivered next week. By the time you get the Neptunes, difficulty will be much higher. 5 TH now is far more profitable than 12 TH several months from now.
5th next week? Who sells them?
25+ Antminers from Bitmain.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/product.htm
3th of Antminers = 5kw (by taking 300watts per Antminer) = 31.654BTC (without shipping) = 25.8k $
3th of Neptunes = 2.5kw = 14.6BTC = 12k $

Two times more $$$ and watts for the same hash-power.

Timing is EVERYTHING, and it may offset that price difference. Who knows... I'm HODL mode w/ my Neptune order. We'll see...
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 10:39:42 PM
Keeping mine.  Maybe foolish.  Prefer to mine the btc instead of watching the btc price chart, reacting emotionally to every scare tactic the traders can foist.

Perhaps my efforts to conjole KnC planners to produce and market anything that can hash soon are a mistake.

+1

It's part of the design. This is stupid how everyone gives this discussion legitimacy when it's a total waste of space.

456  Bitcoin / Mining / how much does this really happen? on: January 22, 2014, 06:00:18 AM
Does anyone have an estimation how much hash power botnets could be responsible for?

Having seen how sexy the HF and CT cases are, a really interesting on-topic discussion would be the neptune case design? No one has mentioned that yet.

I'm sure knc would appreciate some input at this early stage, way before they start, so they don't go and make the Jupiter mistake again (i.e. front heatsinks blasting hot air into back heatsinks, attaching last minute baffles to lid - a lid which many people leave off)  Cool

Assuming they go for a 4 board design again, what would be your ideal neptune case look like? Air/water/oil? You're paying - might as well tell them what you want  Smiley

I choose function over form. It would be the ugliest thing ever as long as it mines like a champ.
458  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: For Individuals looking to get into the Mining Game in 2014, please read this! on: January 21, 2014, 10:38:29 PM
Damn it you guise I would have started mining last week but this thread convinced me not to.... I could have mined LTC and Dog coin and now Dog coin just exploded in price!

Really? You're that easily influenced? Dude, don't blame us. Its your job to make good decisions, not ours.

I was just kidding, I'm still gonna do it

Oh yeah, the #1 problem of text communications: the lack of inflection. Nice one, very nice one. Wink

I'm surprised that nobody else in the US mentioned New York's recent confiscations.... RED FLAG RED FLAG!!
460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 21, 2014, 10:20:54 PM
*disclosure: My opinion is more favorable because I've got a batch 1 Neptune order.*

Wow, I've never taken all day to read one thread. Holy shit, people, stay on topic!

Lots of good chatter, I'm glad to see you're all keeping it together for the most part.

Observations

1. KNC is trying very hard to juggle all these balls. I think they're doing very well.  It is clear to me that KNC is doing their best to give their customers every advantage they can.

2. Power supply conversation: KNC : PLEASE DONT' FEEL OBLIGATED TO INCLUDE A PSU. This is crazy simple, people. Buy your own PSU's (back ups are a good idea...).

3. Self appointed know-it-alls are dragging this thread down. News flash: None of you know anything for certain, so please stop speculating about speculations. What I (and I think we) need is real time information, not speculation. If you have real information to contribute, please keep it coming!

edit: 3.1 : Coinbase is solid, I've had positive experience there.

4. I am a poker player and like a good gamble. I have learned to make my bet when the betting is good, which I've done. Then let it shake out... HODL as you'd say. I will HODL. I suggest you do the same, or don't. But I don't care Smiley If you decide not to, please delay your refund or sale of your hardware as long as possible.

I appreciate all the conversations, here. Thanks!
