441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BCC] Bitconnect Coin - Decentralized Cryptocurrency on: March 06, 2018, 04:14:47 AM
Can you believe this guy from icoreview.site stating that lending coins are a Ponzi. They are not a Ponzi, though!! I've explained my reasoning. If lending is a Ponzi, then PoS staking must be also (but staking always inflates the supply whereas lending often doesn't and this profit can be used by the lending platform to get more users which increases the price - all coins need more users to increase the price so this doesn't mean it's a Ponzi). Most cryptocurrencies will also be ponzis as no wealth is generated unless profits are used to affect the coin price (which lending platforms can do as lending often generates profits for the company without stealing from anyone else).

442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Satoshi Nakamoto be Mike Hearn? on: March 06, 2018, 04:05:46 AM

If I'm getting all these right, you're telling me that Satoshi, the founder of Bitcoin and the genesis block miner, had 1,000,000 BTC from the 20,000 blocks he solved. AND because he lost faith in this project becoming reality, he didn't care about them enough and lost the goddamn keys to this 1mil btc?

Damn son! I'd be hiding from my stupidity as well...

No, I am saying that Bitcoin wasn't worth anything for the first 18 months and therefore people including Satoshi didn't care much about preserving the private keys. Remember the 10,000 BTC pizza transaction? That transaction took place at the end of May 2010 which kind of established any worth for BTC for the first time. Think of it like something that was like a penny but wasn't even close to worth a penny. If you dropped one of those pennies, I bet you wouldn't care much.

So, how many 10K BTC pizzas did Satoshi own when he quit mining?

These two sections are for serious discussion.

 - When you post, you must have a clear point. If you ramble on about nothing, then your post will be deleted.
 - You must stay fairly close to the topic being discussed in each thread.
 - While some amount of error is difficult to avoid, if your English is so broken that you sound stupid, then your post will be deleted.
- No advertising of any kind.
 - Signatures are not displayed.
 - You must be at least a Jr Member to post in Serious Discussion, and a Full Member to post in Ivory Tower.
 - Posts in Serious Discussion only activate a potential-activity period. They do not increase your post count.
 - Posts in Ivory Tower neither activate a potential-activity period nor increase your post count.

Repeated violations of the rules will result in you being banned from the forum as a whole.

Humor is OK as long as it has a point. Any topic of conversation is allowed here, including altcoin talk, except:

 - If you want a response from forum administration, meta talk goes in Meta.
 - Altcoin talk that is advertisement/pump is not allowed, since no advertisement is allowed here.
 - Stuff globally disallowed/restricted (eg. Investigations content) is not allowed.

If advertising of any kind is not allowed in this Serious discussion section, then why is there advertising on EVERY thread here?

Because the rules that were set forth for this section were created for members of the forum to follow; not for the forum itself to adhere to. It's meant to inform members that they cannot advertise anything, such as sales or personal websites or whatever, which is why signatures are disabled for this board. But it doesn't mean that forum advertisements should be removed. The board relies on payments from advertisements to pay for servers, bandwidth, and to remain operational. If the Serious discussion and Ivory Tower boards weren't monetized at all, would you pay a small subscription to be able to post here? Would you rather have a premium model? Because that would be the alternative to having the forum ads removed from these boards.

I personally don't have any issue with the ads that are displayed under the top post, and I don't feel that it's breaking any rules. Because, again, the rule is directed towards forum members, not staff and operations.

I was thinking more along the lines of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNKAnPHtjic.

Here is the post you got those 10 merits for:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2683530.msg31588679#msg31588679

You made me a good laugh. I am sure that you will soon find your account listed in merit abusers along with the person who gave you those merits. Enjoy some read paint on your profile then.
Wouldn't it be abusing of the trust system, if you just give everyone negative trust who receives a significant amount of Merit from another user for a non-quality post? So if you want to give someone negative trust (and you don't care about your own) you just have to give him some Merit for a shitpost and he will be flagged even if he doesn't even know you and he had not the intention to abuse the merit system? Huh

Here's an idea. Let's have all those policing this forum create several sockpuppets for the sole purpose of doling out negative [.red.] trust. That way Google will index the perpetrators. Oh wait ... that's the one section on this forum which Google doesn't index. What the fuck was I thinking?

Here's another idea. Let's have the mods police this forum in weeding out posts that don't belong. Oh wait again ... they're now too busy reviewing posts in seeing if users deserve being candidates as an sM source.

Meanwhile, this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3068650.0.

Ah, fuck it! Let's just built a new forum from scratch. Who's with me on this one?

Aside: I just uncovered a bbcode I've not come across before ...

Thanks for the help, much appreciated! Now to the posts:

My idea to easily flag some of the shitposters using the current system:

While I was in the frog pond I came across this guy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1659648
He posted +600 posts yet failed to get any merits! He even  started a thread just to say this:
Today Bitcoin is at $11,000.

If you buy Bitcoin at $1,000 after the price falls, you get/save $10,000. That's profit.  Smiley

When Bitcoin goes $1,000 to $2,000, you get $1,000 profit.  Wink
I reported the post and it has already been deleted...

So... My idea is that all members with a post count that is more than 100 times - or whatever the staff see fits - their earned merits should have their post history checked by the mods for a possible ban. I guess it could be implemented so those accounts automatically appear for the mods to check them.
Edit: Based on TheQuin suggestion, you can add time to the equation so that it only gives members with +X (eg. +100) posts in the last month.

Why wait for the shitposters to stop using the forums? Lets take action and start banning them!

I mentioned the Falcon promo yesterday

You mentioned it in the wrong thread. This thread is for the BitConnect scam.

I'm still not sure how it's going to pan out

I am. It's a Ponzi, and it is going to pan out like all Ponzis pan out. It will shut down leaving lots of people with large losses.

they are doubling all purchases until March 2nd or something

Doubling you say? Sounds legit.

Yeah, I know it's slightly off topic but just thought I'd let people know if they wanted to make some money.

Ponzis are negative expectation for the "investors". If you get in early enough you can profit from the even bigger idiots who get in after you, but you never know when it's going to shut down. Today might be the last day they pay out, so if you invest now you might lose everything. Do you feel lucky?

Falcon still doing good and $1.50 last I looked and the transaction volume reaching the millions whereas before it was only about $50k a day.

I understand how people who tell the truth get hated on and it seems like you will never be able to see the truth as you have been manipulated to hate on bitconnect etc. What boggles the mind for me is your last statement. Crypto in general is all a Ponzi as nothing is backing the price (the only time it's not is when profits of the company actually REALLY affect the price with buy backs or they use profits to market the coins as in bitconnect's case - they could have done buy backs too but the lending was deflationary anyway throughout bitconnect's life so was obviously not a Ponzi and to buy back would be the same as them not selling all the extra BCC from the lending as profit). Where company profits are not directly affecting the price, all investors for most cryptos who win are taking it from others who lose or are left bag holding coins nobody else buys so are basically ponzis or bubbles (AKA greater fool theory) since NO MONEY IS GENERATED and often the devs hold free coins so they are NEGATIVE EXPECTATION FOR INVESTORS. Lending is obviously a better system than staking and nobody complains about PoS being a Ponzi even though it promises a percentage for holding the coins in the wallet which just inflates the supply. Lending produces profits for the company when it is deflationary (i.e. when they pay less interest than the growth of the coin) and even when it is inflationary it is no different to PoS staking*. Everyone else on this thread who doesn't agree is deluded.

* Although when it is inflationary, the company wouldn't be able to take profits without stealing from investors who are not in the lending or staking at the same rate, PoS in the same way favours holders of higher amounts of coins as they stake more often and compound their stakes more, so even PoS is unfair to small holders versus holders of higher amounts who will stake more often and get a higher effective interest rate when compounded.

I must admit that that sounds like an excellent business model where once reaching it's apex with the model's coffer fill, the only thing left to do would be to close up shop, claiming FUD and rogue states in the US forced the hand, dumping the coins back to the Tards, then announcing a new improved model that'll this time will make everybody rich, naming it FakeConnectX.
