Imagine a hacker stealing Bitcoin that belongs to a country, how do you think the situation will be handled?

Why are you so concerned about bitcoin belonging to a country and not other important information.

Countries have nuclear arsenal. Hacking into the exact locations of their nukes would be more deadly. What about names of all their spies in other countries, or emails of the president?
The current banking system can also be hacked to allow cash withdrawals from ATMs.

Bitcoin is much safer than that if kept in cold storage. Nobody can hack it and take it from you. A country would have to be completely careless to hold it in a hot wallet and allow it to be stolen.
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Self custody a large amount of bitcoin without being a target? on: January 22, 2023, 04:26:21 PM
You can try looking for a trader in your area, someone willing to sell you bitcoin for cash in person. Just remember to be safe, meet in a public place, take someone with you so you're not alone and won't become an easy target.

I got a few people interested in bitcoin and they told some of their friends and in the last 5 years many of them bought and sold bitcoin among each other. I also know a guy who is a localbitcoins trader and he is verified in many exchanges and makes money trading with people who don't want KYC. He charges them a bit more than they'd pay on a normal KYC exchange, but privacy has a price these days.
443  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This Smells Like Hypocrisy on: January 22, 2023, 04:04:32 PM
It's kind of intriguing that they allowed an exception but Japan is a unique country with its unique interest, laws, and culture, horse racing, and bicycle racing can be considered skill based, but for all the other events where it is legal, I cannot consider it skill-based.
Every country has a law that governs what is legal and illegal, there are countries where owning a gun is illegal and other countries where it is legal, we just have to respect it, just like the saying when in Rome do as the Romans do, we have to abide to their rules when we are in their country.

The gun example isn't a good one because in most countries guns are allowed to an extent. Some countries don't allow you to carry it with you outside, but will allow you to keep a gun at home, some will require you to go through a lot of psychological testing, and in some countries you can buy a gun after showing an ID and that's it.

With Japan they have strange rules like you can gamble but you can't pay for gambling and exchange your chips for cash in the same building so people buy tickets in another part of the city, go play pachinko somewhere else and then get a receipt that they can exchange for money in that other place. It's just stupid, it doesn't discourage people.
444  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When was your last Royal Fush? on: January 22, 2023, 03:37:27 PM
Never Cheesy Most of the times I played poker everything revolved around whether you had a good pair or nothing.

Most people either get a good pair and go with it and then people fold or beat them with a better pair or nobody gets anything good and people fold one by one.
It's rare for people to get full house not to mention a flush.

I fell out a combination of flush royal, but it was only a few times and when playing with friends. In online casinos I have not yet been lucky enough to get this combination. And not the fact that even when I get it, I can make good money. After all luck plays a very important role even in games like poker and you can have very good cards in your hand but your opponents will just discard the cards.

When you play with friends everybody is more relaxed and willing to take the game to the river even if they don't have anything, because it's fun, you're not risking a lot and it's a lot of laughs when in the end someone shows that he went through so many rounds with a bluff.
445  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury - February 25 in Saudi Arabia on: January 18, 2023, 06:11:01 PM
I wouldn't say Tommy is someone whom can consider a "capable" boxer because of his record. Most of his wins are against mediocre fighters at best with very poor win-loss ratio with the exception of Daniel Bocianski.

Bocianski's ratio looks only good when you don't check who he fought.

He only fought locally and Tommy was his first fight abroad, so he's not really an experienced fighter. Many of his opponents had very bad stats. It doesn't really mean anything if you win against a guy who's 11-37 or 2-12 and those were the guys he was fighting. They were just there to inflate his score and get him better paid contracts.

Jake Paul wants to win against a big name and Fury is a big name, even if it's the weaker little brother.
446  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 10 Biggest U.S Lottery Jackpots Ever...(Until Now) on: January 18, 2023, 05:35:46 PM
There must be a special treatment for one gambler to claim such high rewards if ever a gambling site opens up a betting line like this.
Because it can be done if some made a bet for millions of dollars in one parlay. It could go way beyond x100 in a parlay and if it wins it should be given considering a negotiation did happen that they accepted the bet.
But in my experience, I have not seen it happen yet. I guess no one would dare go to that extent, betting huge amount and take a parlay which risk was so high that most of the time it doesn't win.

That's 100 million, we're talking about more than 500 million dollars, at least that's what OP suggested.

Sure, it's possible to win 100million in a casino, but I'd say it's not possible to win a billion, like some of these lottery winners from the list. Many casinos would go bankrupt if they somehow allowed someone to win a billion or he'd sue them and won that in court.

Lotteries are built this way so that people get lured in by these huge wins and they allow for a win like that to happen from time to time to work as a promo. All these wins are paid by losers who buy tickets for months and the organization that runs the lottery sets some of these profits aside to later hit people with news of a gigantic win.
447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Minimum deposit and minimum withdrawal. on: January 18, 2023, 05:04:34 PM
IMO it's better for the casino set minimum deposit and withdrawal based on the coin equivalent rather than on fiat equivalent. This because let's say if the coin price is worth for $20/each now and the casino ask minimum deposit of $20, then I make a transaction to send this coin to the casino, but after 5 minutes later the price is drop to $17, so the casino can just reject my deposit since it's lower than the minimum.

If they're using coin equivalent, anyone wouldn't get this kind problem.

I don't see a problem with dollar value as long as they keep the minimum deposit and withdrawal very low.
It's understandable they don't want to keep processing dust transactions otherwise people would spam them with $2 deposits all day, especially people from very poor countries where $1 has a real value.

Setting minimum deposit and withdrawal at $20 is pretty high, unless they aren't accessible on global scale. Many people earn less than $10 a day, so $20 deposit requirement is pretty high.

If you don't want to face the problem of constant price changes you can use bitcoin. Its value usually doesn't change that much on an hourly basis and 10% drops are rare.
448  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds! on: January 18, 2023, 04:50:37 PM
thats why its called gambling, dosent matter the amount he bet ...

That has to be one of the unluckiest and dumbest moves of all time though.

They won 31-30 so with just 1 point and the guy bet 1.4 million to win just 11 thousand which is pretty stupid to begin with. He could've simply bought bitcoin and he'd be up 10% in a much safer way. If instead of gambling people used their heads a bit. Bank savings accounts give you 3% a year and you don't risk anything so he'd have 40 thousand in 12 months, but he wanted 11 now and gets nothing. Serves him well.
449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i am a housewife want to invest in bitcoin on: January 17, 2023, 09:40:07 PM
to all my friends, thank you for giving me advice and encouragement. it turns out that joining all of you here has really helped me, especially in the bitcoin investment that I want to do.

It's good to hear, welcome to the forum and I hope you'll stay and take part in discussions.

It's never to late to be a part of something that changes the way people see money and value. If this isn't a financial revolution then I don't know if there will ever be one and I don't want to be stuck with inflationary fiat money all my life with no alternatives Tongue

I'd like to add that if you want to buy it as a hedge against inflation like you've said in your first post your location will matter greatly. If you live in a country where inflation is 2% you don't have to worry about that too much, but if you're somewhere in Venezuela or Turkey where inflation is literally destroying people's lives, I'd run to bitcoin as fast as I can.
450  Economy / Gambling / Re: PVP Games Lounge launching soon on: January 17, 2023, 09:26:19 PM
Great news. I've been waiting for a working game like that.

That said, we had a few attempts in the past and no real finished development. There were games made that paid you for playing or allowed to convert some ingame loot or points into cryptocurrency, but there were no real PvP games that you could bet on against other players.

How are you going to stop cheaters? What types of games are these going to be? Games where each player rolls the dice and whoever gets the higher number wins?
I'd really like to see some strategy board games in casinos one day.
451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a trend over other cryptocurrency. on: January 17, 2023, 09:09:45 PM
Bitcoin as we know is cryptocurrency which rise and fall in the digital crypto market.

Yes it does but the most important thing in this trend is that it always falls to higher levels than it did before the last halving. That's what makes it a good long term investment.

Quote
So I urge every one that now is the best to buy Bitcoin as it trend to increase in no distance time.

I don't urge people to buy because I don't want to take upon myself their losses due to panic selling and inability to protect their coins.

I think that if you are a newcomer who wants to own crypto you should first and foremost own bitcoin. If you're undecided, don't rush it. Maybe you'd feel better if you bought some gold instead.

452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did you sell off during the 21k price breach. on: January 17, 2023, 08:46:01 PM
Yes, it is true that Bitcoin reached $21,000 last Saturday, and I regret not selling at that price. The market sentiment appears to have caused the unexpected price increase, increasing demand. The price of Bitcoin has increased due to recent successes and related news.

When did you buy your bitcoin? How much did you gain on the recent pump? 15% maybe? Bitcoin is still down more than 60% from its all time high. Is 20 thousand really the level that makes you feel good, like you want to exit the space and be on your way? If you hold 1 bitcoin you've probably made 4 thousand dollars. For me it wouldn't be anything worth moving my bitcoins.

I didn't sell anything for almost a year and I'm not going to sell anything if we fall from this back to 16 or something.
I'm not a wealthy person but I'm here for the long run. I don't see myself ever not owning any bitcoin. If we went to 100 thousand right now I'd still hold some. There's no price at which I'd dump everything.
453  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you handle your losses on: January 17, 2023, 08:28:03 PM
At first it is difficult. Mostly what I do is to set a ceiling to how much I am willing to lose while rolling dices, if I get to that threshold then I stop and try to accept the loss and do not chase it.

Also, immediately switching to play a non-gambling related game helps.
I personally like First person shooters, it works to forget about the bad streak at dices.

It's what I do. I send to mu account only the amount I want to gamble with and I have a rule that I never break which is that I never add another deposit during or right after a session.

When I know I have $50 to spend I come to play and I know that worst case scenario I'll be down $50 but to me whatever is sitting on my casino account is already lost. I don't feel like I have this money until it's back in my wallet.

I don't have to drink water like OP to handle a loss. It comes naturally. I don't feel a burden of a loss but I also never play with big money.
454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your best advice/recommendations for a crypto beginner on: January 16, 2023, 01:10:57 PM
New to crypto? I can tell you what I've learned and what I'd do if I were to start again from scratch.

1. Beware when someone bothers you, messages you about a job, wants to help you when you're not asking for it, has an investment opportunity for you. 99.9% of the time it's a scam.

2. Don't waste time on learning about new altcoins. Most of them are scams or pump and dump schemes. Sometimes you make money sometimes you don't but you always waste a lot of time getting to know protocols and they're usually just ideas that never become anything real.

3. Buy bitcoin. Just get exposed to it. It doesn't matter how much money you can have.  If you have spare $50 use that and hold for a few years. The more you have the better. I wish I knew this years ago when I came here but I thought all coins are equal just different in the goals they want to achieve. It's not true. There's bitcoin and there are altcoins. Don't let people fool you that it doesn't matter what you buy because it's the same crypto space.
455  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is It good For The Casinos And The Accusers If .. on: January 16, 2023, 12:58:23 PM
Straight no for me also; why do they post ANN here if they don't want to get replies on it? They want to address those accusations in private chat? or in their community that they can sensor easily? Also, there's something fishy about why they don't want to answer those accusations here because they'll find a way around it. Transparency is essential; if they aren't hiding anything, they can easily answer questions and deny accusations. Whatever their point or desire, I think a lot of gamblers who came here will decline.

Those who have nothing to hide are usually fine with accusations as long as they aren't pure spam and hate speech.

I've seen many accusations here handled well by the community where people did the casino support's job for them and went through all screenshots and addresses provided to get to the bottom of the case. Often the case was someone not reading TOS or someone making up accusations without any proof.

When you're running a solid business there's nothing to be afraid of here.
456  Economy / Economics / Re: My investments ahead of the 2024 halving 100% Bitcoin on: January 16, 2023, 12:38:07 PM
I have no problem with bitcoin maximalists which is a good thing because you don't need to worry too much about your portfolio. But if you say that all altcoins are not worth investing in, then I don't think so, I'm not talking about the top 10 or 100 here, because investing in altcoins, there are many factors to conclude whether it is a project to invest in or not. I will only talk about ETH, it is also an altcoin, and it has been with bitcoin at the top of the market for many years. So I don't think all altcoins are hype and scheme.

Top 10 by market cap doesn't matter because you have things like XRP there that's a total scam with large premine made by a former founder of scam exchange Mt. Gox.
XRP is also a security and the US agencies are after them. Sooner or later they'll be in trouble.

I don't understand why so many people still invest in scam cryptocurrencies in 2023 just because their market cap is high.

Personally I still have some ETH that I bought in 2019 for less than $200 so I don't feel the need to get rid of it. Apart from that I only have bitcoin.
457  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I turned over $1.344M with Sportsbet.com - https://imgur.com/a/gFB14gl on: January 16, 2023, 12:19:03 PM
I place the majority of my bets with Sportsbet who are the largest online bookmaker in Australia.

Between June 2022 and November 2022 I turned over $1.344M and over $961k in August 2022 alone.

So that was AUD not USD that you used? So 1.3M was like 900k USD. Much less, but still a lot of money.

Quote
I turned over $200k in December 2022 and already $88k in January 2023 so I called to ask why I haven't received any bonus promotions after spending a lot of money and the answer given was because I have a winning position against Sportsbet in the last 12 months.

This has left me VERY angry and proved to me there is no loyalty amongst these gambling companies regardless of how much money you spend.

Think of it this way: they want losers to come back and keep playing but they don't want winners who know what they're doing in their casino. It was a compliment

Quote
I have decided to permanently close my account on 30/01/2023. The reason for this date is because I have a six figure NFL bet (Kansas City Chiefs to win their conference) which is playing on the 29/01/2023.

Good luck with your bet.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A good way to promote Bitcoin or not? on: January 16, 2023, 12:07:16 PM
What benefits come from using it as payment?

I don't know how many people will choose bitcoin payment but it won't be a large percentage at first.

If you're a bitcoin investor and would like to buy and hold some as a store of value accepting it in your store is a great way to DCA anonymously without having to touch an exchange, go through their KYC process and all that.

There's a chance you'll find new friends. People who live in your area and are into bitcoin but weren't spending it locally because there were no places that accepted it. Maybe some of them will want to help your business.
459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there restriction in purchase of bitcoin? on: January 15, 2023, 09:53:44 PM
This is generally how the market works.

If everyone stopped selling their bitcoins they'd go up in value because speculators would expect those people wanting a higher price.

But there's usually always someone wanting to sell and someone wanting to buy so even if neither liked the current prices, they'd place asks and bids and those orders would converge (meet) at a new price that the asset would become.

Correct and the more participants there are in the market the less likely it is that such a withhold will ever take place.
It could happen at a small exchange with 100 people but it won't happen when there's 100 exchanges with 500+ active traders on each of them.

Of course with the limited number of bitcoins there can be a supply squeeze once governments come in trying to buy. For a country spending a billion dollars on bitcoin is nothing because they can print their money. They have infinite supply while the supply of bitcoin is finite.

Such squeeze will not last forever though. Once people see what's happening they will stop selling to push the price to ridiculous levels like 1 million per coin and then again start selling once they're 100x in profit. In that case the buyer will either have to accept offer or fold like in poker.
460  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: betting against the Public, is this strategy working? on: January 15, 2023, 09:40:42 PM
It's the same as betting with the public.
You're sacrificing odds to get a higher reward per dollar. When you go with the flow you get for example 2:1 if you win, but if you go against it you can get 4:1, but with 50% lower chance to win.

I'd say it's a matter of perspective whether you want this or that. I play dice at around 50% but there are people who prefer 40% with a higher reward.

I don't try to stick with a strategy like that. I prefer to bet on teams or players that I know are good or the ones I like even when hey aren't favored to win.
