4581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][$MUSIC] Musicoin Blockchain Upgrades to V3.0(“Quantitative Tightening 🎸 on: December 08, 2020, 04:41:40 AM
Yes, use mycrypto instead of MEW. I sent all my Musicoin holdings from my Ledger to DOVE using mycrypto.com instead of MEW and it worked fine. Now, I am just waiting for the December 15 swap to occur!

From a Ledger it might work but I just got this on a keystore file on an offline PC. It seems the only way is to actually import private key which seems risky. Anyway to create an unsigned transaction with MyCrypto which will import the gas+nonce that I later sign offline with MyCrypto? Or is it not possible
4582  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What kind of trader are you - Day Trader or Swing Trader? on: December 08, 2020, 04:32:08 AM
Day trading is extremely difficult. Whether its crypto or stocks or futures. I tried it and basically it was stressful on the days when nothing moved. And those days you need to stay away from opening any trades because you will just get chopped to bits. Kind of what is happening with BTC this past week. Look at how many people got wicked out whether short or long.

Best type of trading is swing trading. Where you look at the markets and if you don't see anything worth taking, then you go out and enjoy life and you come back the next day. And this way you only take quality trades and you will be surprised at how high your hit rate is. Especially when dealing in strong trending markets like now with crypto or with stocks. I think bull and bear markets are easy to make money for most people but its the ranging choppy markets that can get most people to lose most of their funds.
4583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When will Antminer E3 stop mining ETH? on: December 08, 2020, 04:27:33 AM
Are there any alternative for ETH to mine with E3? Currently, I'm mining Metaverse, there is Ubiq but I'm not sure are they solid choice?

The only ones with active exchanges are Ubiq, Metaverse and Expanse. There are others like Soilcoin and Musicoin but they don't have any exchanges at the moment. Currently if you got free power you can make a few pennies mining these. However I am sure in a week or so everybody else will switch to these coins and completely make the difficulty higher.

Just wondering did any of your E3 guys ROI your ASIC? I remember they were decently priced and then when they heard that ETH is not switching the algo they doubled their prices for the E3 on the second batch. Wondering if you guys got ROI in terms of ETH and USD?
4584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: December 08, 2020, 04:22:14 AM
This reminds me of when I started mining in 2014... was cheap and didn't want to buy more motherboards+cpu+ram that I decided to use one from like 2002 or 2003 or so. So I had some old old motherboard which had some pentium 4 processor and luckily it had 1 PCIe slot. So I decided to put in a brand new R9 280X into the slot and for some reason it didn't work. So I put in an older gpu like an Radeon 6xxx or 7xxx series and to my surprise it worked. Hashed at the exact same speed as a brand new i5 system pretty much.

Then I discovered that it had a 1x port also, so I orderd some risers and decided to hook up 2 GPUs to this decade and a half old system. To my surprise the second GPU worked. And the hashing speed was the same as in a regular i3/i5 system. Ran great for 1 day and then BAM! Some capacitor exploded on the motherboard and it never worked again.

It ran for like 2-3 weeks with the 1 GPU however with the second GPU it stressed some components and killed the motherboard. Hopefully the same won't happen to yours.
4585  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ETF by 2nd quarter of 2021? on: December 08, 2020, 04:12:07 AM
There is a joke going on that Microstrategy has pretty much launched a Bitcoin ETF since they are wanting to buy another $400 million worth of BTC. And since they already bought like $550M worth, and current unrealized profits are over $1B currently most of their market value is based largely on bitcoins price.

If you add MSTR to tradingview and compare it to BTC you will see the very close correlation. MSTR is different from GBTC because GBTC are OTC from what I recall. Not everybody can buy that especially people who want to use their retirement funds. MSTR is different because its on Nasdaq and most brokerages support it. Ideally it will only work one way. If BTC goes up, so does the stock but not the other way around. If MSTR goes up, doesn't mean BTC will go up.
4586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][$MUSIC] Musicoin Blockchain Upgrades to V3.0(“Quantitative Tightening 🎸 on: December 07, 2020, 10:05:59 PM
Seems nothing is working. I can't connect to the block explorer to get my nonce to make the transaction. And even if I connected then I wouldn't be able to connect to the node because it doesn't seem to connect to the MUSIC node on MEW to broadcast the transaction.

Anyone got any working nodes or are they all offline?

I had same situation like you on MEW, after that I tried the same thing but this time from MCrypto and there I managed to connect to the network and broadcast transaction.

I hope that helps in your situation also Wink

Basically finally managed to connect to some nodes. So will just sign a raw transaction and broadcast it like that. However since the block explorer doesn't show anything recent, I don't know why nonce so basically need to try like 50 different nonces until I finally get the correct one. No way to get MEW to work. The node is outdated and doesn't want to connect.

Also chain seems stuck, so sent some hash on to the MUSIC blockchain and finally got it running. However why is the miner reward so little? Seems like less than 1 MUSIC per block found. Was there some halving? Seems like dangerous chain because anyone can 51% attack it since there are literally no miners.
4587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware!! Libra is not Bitcoin!! Here is the difference between Libra and Bitcoin on: December 07, 2020, 06:28:46 AM
I think the main purpose of Libra is to make it easier to transact on the facebook marketplace. Instead of having to drive to an ATM to get cash, you can just pay with your facebook app when you pickup the goods at the sellers house. This is actually creative because these days people rarely carry cash and most people deal with bank transfer or cash apps when doing second hand deals like this.

It will be a digital currency and maybe have a blockchain but it will be centralized and nothing like bitcoin. Most likely won't be possible to trade libra for bitcoin. Many just confuse it because whenever we hear digital currencies we think of bitcoin. However many digital currencies have nothing to do with bitcoin. Same with the Chinese government making a trial run with some digital currency for their country. Many other governments will also do this. Basically cash is dying and paying with traced/proof methods is going up and up. One reason is to reduce crime another to make it more conviencent to make transaction.

When you go to grocery store? How often do you pay with cash? Almost never. Most likely you pay with your credit card by taping the termainal and you are all set. This is the future.
4588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH switch to PoS will kill GPU mining but everybody seems pretty relaxed on: December 07, 2020, 06:13:54 AM
I’d like to ping this topic again. Here it is the end of 2020 and POW is still working.
I still maintain the opinion that the move to POS could effectively harm the eth economy. It’s no BTC, to be sure but ethereum has grown tremendously and with so many erc-20 tokens relying on the stability of a working system it will be really interesting to see how this plays out. From the start of this thread you can see how long they’ve been planning to move from mining to staking but always seem to get delayed or run into problems. Any opinions on this?

How many successful pow coins are out there.

None that have gone up 10x and stayed up.

I guess you could argue ripple is successful. But not so much.

Eth will play with pos and if anything if they push it hard and truly look to go to pos then ETC may benefit.

You guys remember the coin that was suppose to be Ethereum competition back in 2016 or so called Lisk (LSK). It was basically similar to ETH except that it was POS from the beginning. Many argued that ETH was in trouble because POS was the future and LSK would quickly overtake ETHs market share. And now how is LSK doing exactly?

Its around $1 or so, and has a marketcap of less than $200 million while ethereums is $68 billion. So just because its POS isn't necessarily always a bullish thing. I think ETHs hashrate distribution is pretty fair in my opinion. Many people at home are mining it with their GPUs and securing the network. Probably even more home miners on ETH than BTC which is largely controlled by huge farms.  What POS will do is reduce the carbon footprints but what will happen only the rich 1% will be mostly the ones staking. And it will become similar to how wealth is distributed today.
4589  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should we keep bitcoin or not? on: December 07, 2020, 06:05:00 AM
I think alot of people already sold and they will want to buy back in if it breaks the $20K because they think that the sky is the limit. However what will you do if it breaks $20K and your stop-limit order never fills because there is no supply there and it ends up going to $21K or $22K almost immediately. What will you do then? Buy it at 22K? Might as well just buy some of it back now. And what will you do if it goes back to $20K and keeps going lower and lower, $19K to $17K all the way to $10K? Anything can happen.

One thing I am certain of is that if there is no dip, there will be a dip in January due to people holding for the new year to sell and have less taxes owing in 2020. This is what happened in 2018, there was massive tax selling going all the way into April pretty much. Alot of people underestiamted their taxes and were forced to sell more in Feb-April 2018 to pay the tax man. Caused massive supply and took us under $10K very quickly. Same situation is possible now.
4590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: MyEtherWallet Cold Storage Question on: December 07, 2020, 04:53:54 AM
Thank you all that replied. I am doing this on an offline cold storage computer so the google drive is not an option. I also rather not have to download another piece of software to encrypt the seeds. I think I will just use the regular method and use the keystore method which uses a password and just back that up to multiple devices. Just surprised this isn't an option in MEW since most bitcoin wallets allow you to save your backup if it was created using the mnemonic seed.

Anyone know how secure the keystore password is ? Looking inside the file is some CipherText and it doesn't look like a private key, so I am assuming this is the encrypted private key using the password that I created? Anyone want to confirm?
4591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: December 07, 2020, 04:39:37 AM
Well looks like the Antminer E3, the very first DaggerHashimoto ASIC, has transitioned into a door-stop pretty much. With new DAG released a few hours ago, Epoch #380, there are reports that E3 stopped mining ETH, even with the updated firmware.

You would think they would switch and mine ETC instead? Turns out ETC don't want E3 on their network either and they are incompatible with the slightly different ETC algo with lower DAG.

Looking at,
https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

Shows pretty much almost no hashrate change. Maybe give it a day or 2 to settle. Really wondering how many of these E3 were actually produced. I remember when they were first released, people were saying that "Bitmain produced enough to cause a 51% attack" wonder if that was actually the case.
4592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When will Antminer E3 stop mining ETH? on: December 07, 2020, 04:34:22 AM
When I heard that they were going to reduce the DAG so 3GB or higher can mine again, I assumed that it all that they would do. However it seems that the algo is slightly different. Nicehash basically dropped ETC support all together because they didn't want buyers of hash to be stuck with nothing but invalid shares and all Daggerhashimoto ASICs won't work since there is a slight difference in the algo.

I don't understand why they don't allow ASICs to mine, especially the E3. The E3 are going to stop mining ETH pretty soon and would do good security the ETC network. I don't think there are millions of them in Chinese warehouses that poses as a 51% attack threat. Anyways its sad to here that E3 is finally a door stop. Probably going to see tons of these on eBay and Craiglist now.

4594  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you want to be a technical analyst yourself? on: December 06, 2020, 04:28:50 AM
Both books are decent. I read them many years ago when I was in the Forex/Stocks trading.

But I think technical analyst is not applicable about crypto as here are much more speculations than 'technical' part. Just follow the trends and be very cautious.

I don't think crypto is any different. Pretty much any markets out there whether its stocks, stock indicies, energy, metals, forex, soybeans, etc. They all pretty much trade the same. Technical analysis works pretty much for all of them and the hit rate might be higher or lower in certain assets but its more or less the same. No method provides 100% accuracy however.

I think the most important is pretty much trends. If there is a trend is fairly easy to trade as long as you follow it. Basically as long as you bought BTC after March crash it would of been very difficult not to make a profit. The stock market is no different. As long as you were long from April/May 2020 you would of made money in the markets and it would of been pretty difficult to lose money unless you did something such as buy Hertz which went bankrupt or trade stock options.
4595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: December 06, 2020, 04:04:07 AM
You know when we are in bull market when phil started posting gpu rig pictures again hehe

I agree. Another one is when mining is so profitable that you need to get it hooked up ASAP. So instead of mounting it properly on a open air rig, you just leave the motherboard on the motherboard box and cram as many GPUs as you can in there.

I remember I had so many rigs set up Like this in the past. I stopped doing it when I realized that there NorthBridge (or southbridge) on the motherboard can actually get very hot and if it’s laying flat there is no ventilation and things can go badly. However according to the hundreds of amateur mining setups I’ve seen in the past I am not the only one guilty of this.
4596  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can electrum cold storage be attacked through transactions? on: December 06, 2020, 02:19:09 AM
It’s highly unlikely to have both malware on both your online and offline PC. For your offline PC make sure your signature matches the author, there are ways on how to verify this. Before you load it on your offline PC make sure it verifies first.

If for some reason it verifies and it’s fake which is highly unlikely. Just decode the raw transaction first before broadcasting it. There are a few tutorials on how to do this just by googling it. However I don’t think you should worry about this. You at least use cold storage which most people don’t, so you are safe than 99% of people out there.
4597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / MyEtherWallet Cold Storage Question on: December 05, 2020, 04:26:58 PM
I am trying to figure out a way to display the private key or anyway to get some type of BIP38 encryption on my private key with a wallet I create using the Seed method.

I can create a 12 or 24 word seed and it gives me access to my wallet but how do I securely secure the seeds. It doesn’t give me the option of saving a backup file or even shows me my private key. And even if I got the private key, how do I encrypt it because using Bitcoins BIP38 doesn’t seem to work.

Anyone got any tips. Rather not rely on my own memory to remember 24 words or write it down somewhere locally unencrypted.

4598  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC technicals are against ATH. Liquidate on: December 05, 2020, 05:47:58 AM
BTC technicals are against $20,000. I don't think holding now is a good idea.
Maybe a good idea is to move the money from BTC to altcoins.

If BTC breaks $21,000 confirming a breakout, media will write about BTC and move retail investors will flow in. Then get in.
I think for now, the best idea is to liquidate BTC. And move to alts.

What's your take and why?

Happy to discuss!

Here is the thing with waiting for it to break $20K and buying it at like $20.5K or $21K. I see one or 2 things happening here.

First one is that it will break $20K and head straight to like $23-25K or so. What do you do then? Buy it at $25K. Seems very risky. Another most likely scenario is that it will break $20K, go to like $21K and then go back down below the $20K and start to go towards the $19K basically be a fake out pretty much.

Remember what happened in Nov 2018? It broke $6K and many people wanted to sell at a loss at $5.9K, however it never went to $5.9K went to like $5.6K and headed straight down right away towards the $3K. So if it was this easy everybody would be trading this scenario.
4599  Economy / Speculation / Re: The cause of the recent Bitcoin price hikes on: December 05, 2020, 05:40:04 AM
The company actually ended up buying more Bitcoins according to the CEOs tweet. He bought $50 million dollars worth of BTC at a price of $19500. So basically he pretty much bought the top. His average is still like $11500 or so even with the $19500 compounding, since his new addition only accounts for an extra 10%. So I guess I was incorrect in assuming he would take partial profits at $19500 when in fact he decided to add more to his holdings.

So its very bullish as you can see. Basically stock market at highs, most stocks like AAPL and TSLA are way overvalued. What else is there to buy? Certainly not the dollar. Hence BTC is the only other attractive asset right now. Hence why many are loading up on it. However it doesn't mean it will break ATH soon. Could be weeks or months before it breaks. He bought this BTC as a long term investment.
4600  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Father lost his Electrum wallet, and remembers some of the words in the seed on: December 05, 2020, 05:29:08 AM
I also had this issue in the past where instead of writing it down, I decided to "remember" the seed. At first I would recite it every day, then I made a story out of it using all the 12 words. And from time to time I would basically do a test signature and verify or do some small transaction to keep it in my memory. However...

Then Nov 2018 happened, BTC dropped to like $3K and decided to not sell my BTC in that wallet for like almost a year. Then when it went up in June 2019, I tried to access the wallet and could only remember 6 of the words, in the correct order. I figured I would just look at the dictionary and the words that I am missing would appear and I would be set. However you don't realise how many words there are and you will second guess yourself assuming you know the word when its not the correct word.

Basically in the end. Out of the blue for some reason months and months later, I "finally" remembed the missing 6 words. Tried it on Electrum and the wallet finally opened. Basically the word that I "thought" were correct weren't even close to being correct.

Hence... don't use your brain as your only source of your seed unless you use this seed everyday.
