In 2015 the scams have to be top notch to get people to believe and buy. I gotta hand it to the ARCH crew for continuing to get people to talk about and buy this shitcoin.

How many believers not on ARCH's payroll do we got in here.

Perhaps you should discuss the way BTCA's tactics for misleading people within the Arch's slack.

Now that everyone had witnessed it first hand, no one gives a damn about this coin anymore.

Unethical behaivors in crypto translates to unethical business in real life.

If you weren't a sock puppet who only talks in the arch thread I'd give a shit about what you have to say maybe. As it stands there are no fucks.
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ARCHcoin [ARCH] The ARCH Network - NEWS on: August 20, 2015, 04:39:41 PM
Any suggestion as per why the price is dropping so fast ?

Lies, Manipulation, Inside trading. It showed BTCA's TRUE character.

No one gives a shit about this coin anymore.

So, how much arch have you dumped today?

I like that they're making provisions for the Tesla Powerwall. That's at least 7 kw/h of stored sunlight. That's a lot of energy.

Hello SolarCoin community!

Here are some details on the latest beta11 that might shed some light on the problems here.  The latest beta does an upgrade on 1.5 wallet.dat's to 2.0. There are some structural changes to the wallet to allow transaction time stamps that are needed for PoST. This is a different time stamp than the one you see in the wallet's History tab.

The upgrade is not backwards compatible with 1.5.  if you are beta testing, please use a new wallet (or a copy) for testing.

The final version will upgrade your 1.5 wallet to 2.0.  So if you choose to use your old 1.5 wallet.dat in 2.0, that's fine, you will retain all of your transaction history.  Just be sure to have a wallet backup handy.

-Steve

Speaking of this, I decided to run a test wallet on a new account. Copied over my wallet.dat. It's not finding peers, but otherwise it seems to be functioning well.

I hope this gets fixed before the end of the month for POST.  Undecided

Block 800000 is approaching

Even if it's delayed, I'd rather have functional software. It's actively monitored and that's the important part. All may not be going as planned, but I think we're in good hands. Smiley

I am looking to Buy 100k SLR without making the price move.

Is anyone willing to sell me that amount of Solarcoin at current prices?
Thank you

Any thoughts, criticisms, or suggestions?

Your principal vulnerabilities stem from your network interface.  On your live network host:  Disable and in fact remove physically everything that opens a port except for sshd, bitmonerod.  iptables should block all but 2 essential ICMP types, your sshd tcp port, DNS udp, and bitmonerod.  You want rules to prevent fingerprinting as well.  Use a kernel from TAILS.  Physically disable bluetooth and IR.  I recommend against wifi, in favor of copper ethernet.

If you're that paranoid you should opt for fiber optic ethernet. Wink

Here is an interesting story.

Warren Buffett gets Cheapest Electricity Rate W/ Solar Farm bloom.bg/1gmhKlH via @business

Warren Buffett’s Nevada utility has lined up what may be the cheapest electricity in the U.S., and it’s from a solar farm.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s NV Energy agreed to pay 3.87 cents a kilowatt-hour for power from a 100-megawatt project that First Solar Inc. is developing, according to a filing with regulators......

It would be cheaper with solarcoin.  He is paying 38.70/MWh. SolarCoin would make it $38.687  A small bump for now, but hey it is real money.  100mw likely creates at least 130,000MWh/yr= §130,000k/year. which is about $1,700 as of recent price.  You wouldn't walk by that if you saw it lying on the sidewalk. Over the 30yr life of a the facility it is about $50,000. Again small in the context of the whole facility, but still real money.

Maybe they should file a claim.

As the network of currency's users grows in number, the value created by its economic utility increases.

Everyone should make a claim! Smiley

You know, when SLR reaches a decent value, I'm going solar power everything. My house, my car, my shoes. Nothing will be safe.

Everyone wants to buy cheap arch Smiley When he creates moby arch will explode Smiley

Happy to see than prototype is under costruction, when Moby sales will start I expect to see 100k+.
Much money will come in ARCH  Grin
But thanks for FUD...cheap coin for us  Cheesy

But we're not allowed to see any photos of this object under construction.

I'm sure you understand why, remember seeing the Tesla prototype being built? oh wait Wink
Give us a couple of weeks, as soon as the main frame is up, i'll be glad to share photos of the final stages.

One of the co-founders of Tesla motors Martin Eberhard was effectively removed from his own company due to mismanagement. I don't see anything that would convince me Arch isn't heading down a similar trajectory. Right now as it stands all we have is hearsay and some funding mismanagement. It doesn't fill me with confidence.

I really love all the discussion going on as it is fascinating!

As for my 2cents on the wallet rewards, I'm okay with allowing everyone to run the wallet (forever) while using rewards as a "stepping stone" in the short term.. however eventually I think that we should lower or remove the reward for just running the wallet since it would be paradoxical (not to mention hypocritical) to allow people to earn SLR in any fashion other than the stated 1MWH=1SLR. It would also technically devalue the coin too since it goes against what the core mission is after.

We will likely have lots of claimants at the point we consider ditching POST rewards so I really doubt the network needs POST support forever as the claimants themselves will find incentives to run the wallet in the first place.

(We can either do this, or regulate that all users are PV based... but that will shut out a lot of people and require more rules as you have correctly stated)

===

Personally, I believe that computing based on solar power will inevitably overtake other forms a computing both within SLR, and globally, especially as solar materials get more productive at gathering sunlight, and we get more creative with storing it... This will inevitably lead to a stronger network (especially in places with loads of sun) as people will be able to afford running a wallet and fortifying the system without any electrical cost to them.

I know I cant wait to built my first true solar powered Mac/PC/ASIC and I am not alone, so we will see where this goes... Probably to the Sun!!

I can get behind that. In the short to mid term POST rewards are logical. As more and more people run wallets who actually have solar panels, it becomes pointless to reward interest for doing so, especially if this technology becomes embedded.

You know these guys are brilliant. The founders of Solarcoin. What a great way to gather data on global solar irradiance and store it in a safe accessible way. This is the very data we need to free ourselves from the majority of fossil fuel use. Don't get me wrong, there's a place for oil, but if we can replace 90% of it's use using clean technology, it'll go a long way to solving our energy problems permanently.

Hi all,

after 11 months research at our labs. We have nearly completed the research paper.
We are going to release information as open source so that the network can benefit.
Details will be published at the best timing possible for solarcoin.

Best,
lfloorwalker

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to show how Solarcoin can operate, its added value and further to show how a solar powered node on the solarcoin blockchain can potentially operate. The aim of this document is to disseminate valuable information that crosses over between solar engineering, network engineering and finally blockchain development. The work starts by introducing how to get Solarcoin- either generating it from solar energy, or by trading it. Then the work goes on to explain a general overview regarding how blockchains operate for people who are new to the blockchain technology. And finally the document details plans for a solar powered Solarcoin node that generates Solarcoin and simultaneously protects the transparent consensus ledger. A solar powered Solarcoin node was constructed and tested for an 11-month period and still ongoing at our research labs in Tokyo. The details of the construction and operation of this setup were documented. This document was written in the intent of freely distributing information so that further innovation can occur in the future. In the future, it is hoped that the process of creating an open source solarcoin blockchain node will be streamlined and simpler, so that solarcoin nodes can proliferate. This will enable more people to benefit from the added value that solarcoin has for planet Earth, and, its people.

Now that's pretty exciting. Smiley

Matt i think that's a great idea maybe even hand out paper wallets to the people.   Smiley

It may be an idea at this point or in the near future to open a prypto campaign for Solarcoin. Have a card design contest, and maybe find out if the prypto cards address can be printed as a QR code on the card, on the back or something.

I don't know how secure those cards are. I know they give you the unique key for each address on a scratch off portion of the card, but there's no way to add a password on those as far as I know.

Yes I LOVE this idea... we need these ASAP especially since it looks like a much more professional way to distribute coins instead of some piece of paper...Does it cost a lot to setup?

It costs some money. I don't know how much though. And yeah, it would be pro. A nice shiny "debit" type card to hold, use with merchants, and the best part is, it'll receive funds as your solar panels do what they do. It may not be time yet for this idea, I think SLR is going to have to become more embedded in the economy for it to be worthwhile, but I can see it's usefulness.

Great news Nick! The future is certainly bright for Solarcoin. I was wondering also if there are any implications for how the coin is currently distributed. I'm not well versed is economics but it does worry me that there are individuals that hold very large amounts of coins. I myself have a reasonable investment (small compared to some here) and I worry that if this coin was to greatly increase in value having few people with so much market share could be problematic.

Yeah I agree... I would have been in on the PoW phase but didn't trust the 98 Billion outstanding. Many people may have felt or still feel the same way.

If any of the large holders of SLR want to distribute the coin better my address is 8UekydfG2HNccLU485Dtjpx9mhgQfUki3W
Smiley

PoW was a way to secure the Blockchain initially, but it is a heavy cost to pay and if it is just held during PoS to stake better and POST may allow this also, the PoS aspect may be out of whack. Since you will have a few big wallets vs a bunch of small wallets. I never really like the way coin is created though so this happens with every coin.

I do agree with you when it comes to most coins. It's my opinion Solarcoin is different. There are some large holders and I feel many of them really have a stake in the project beyond profit. Full disclosure, I have a sizable amount of Solarcoin sitting in a cold storage wallet waiting for a future date. I will also POST that wallet to help secure the chain, and it's my intention to not touch the principal investment. I may go after some of the interest it earns, and I'll trade responsibly.

Send Grantcoin on Twitter with New Web-Based Wallet App

Posted on July 22, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation
http://www.grantcoin.org/2015/07/22/send-grantcoin-on-twitter-with-new-web-based-wallet-app/

The Grantcoin Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of @SendGrantcoin, a web-based wallet app that enables anyone with a Twitter account to send and receive Grantcoin in tweets. The system is fully automated, not requiring any human activity to process transactions.

“We’re excited to provide this service because it makes Grantcoin much more accessible to non-technical people,” said Eric Stetson, Executive Director of the Grantcoin Foundation. “Twitter is a perfect platform for sending digital currency, such as for social tipping, microgrants and donations to worthy causes. Integrating Grantcoin with social media makes it more useful and easy for the average person to use this currency.”

Twitter users can get a deposit address to fund their Grantcoin Twitter wallet, check their balance, and withdraw to an external Grantcoin wallet by sending either a tweet or a direct message to @SendGrantcoin. Users can send GRT to one or more recipients with a simple tweet.

No download or installation of any software is necessary to use the Grantcoin Twitter wallet. Instructions for how anyone on Twitter can immediately start using their Twitter account as a Grantcoin wallet are available at http://www.grantcoin.org/t

Grantcoin held by users of the Twitter wallet system is stored on a secure server owned and operated by the Grantcoin Foundation. Neither Twitter nor any developer outside the Grantcoin team has access to the server or funds.

Genius. Has this been done before? excellent marketing tool as well. Hats off. I have to say, while I first invested in hopes of a quick buck, I am becoming more and more impressed with the long term vision and team. Proud to be the first ripple investor. Keep up the good work. If there's anyway I can help the team, please let me know.

It's been done with reddit, but I think this may be the first application for twitter.

A few other coins have also done it with Twitter, but Grantcoin has improved the details of implementation so that tweeting coins is more intuitive and easily understandable for users, especially for people not familiar yet with crypto.

Also, an app like this fits perfectly with the overall concept of Grantcoin, and even the name of our currency. If you want to send a micro-grant of some money on social media, might as well send (a) grant (of) coin, i.e. @SendGrantcoin. And Grantcoin is primarily issued into circulation as philanthropic grants, so both on the macro and micro level this coin is perfectly suited for "paying it forward" on social media, to charities, or to anyone you think is #grantworthy. Smiley

As National mentioned, this Twitter wallet app is a great marketing tool, and the Grantcoin Foundation and our team members will be making heavy use of it for this purpose, getting the word out about Grantcoin to thousands and thousands of people, giving worthy recipients small amounts of GRT to spark their curiosity and interest. Hopefully many will start using the currency. We'll also be launching an online store in the next couple of months where people will be able to spend it, so that will increase the utility of the grants that people receive through Twitter.

Thank you for the heads up, I couldn't remember.

Question for you, will the online store feature the businesses that currently accept Grantcoin, and will you add them to the app as more businesses come on board?
