I feel like people who post in this thread need to first state their reasoning for mining bitcoins:
Profit vs. "The good of the coin"
If you're in BTC for profitability, then ASIC is the end of the casual miner.
If you're in BTC for the good of the coin, then ASIC is a casual miner's wet dream.

Who is the 5870 pending to? I'm interested as well.

So it was an opencl issue. Lame. Glad you got out worked out.

From what you posted, I take it you're running cgminer? If so, I've found that cgminer typically chooses the best settings. So you have the workload set to 64, I keep it on auto and I get 290mhash/sec @900/300. I would try to remove the manual workload size and see how that affects the hash rate.

Do you have the latest .net installed? Could you test the card in another 3d situation (gaming, for example)? If all else falls, reinstall windows. I hope this was a dedicated rig and you won't lose any personal settings and data.

Exactly what crazyates said. I would assume you're also using trixx to set gpu clocks as well? There is a way to set the gpu clocks upon startup of cgminer as well. Just use --gpu-engine desired core clock. And like Crazy yates mentioned before, if you want to run one core at 800 and the other at 775, you'll add "--gpu-engine 800,775."

Congrats, wish I had the same luck.
I got mine figured out yesterday. I don't actually mine with it, but I also used the litecoin.conf file to set it up. What I had was: host http://litecoinpool.orgport 9332 user user pass pass and I was getting error number 6. I changed the host to "litecoinpool.org" and it connects right away. To people who are getting crashes right after the Kernel is compiled, try changing your worksize in the litecoin.conf file from 256 to 128. The kernel will recompile and it should work.

Ahhh, I see. Sorry if I came off rude. Just trying to be realistic. And I think it's worth more than $1200 shipped.
|
|
|
I hope you're not realistically trying to get the same price as brand new products... for used products. If I can buy brand new parts for the same price as the exact same used parts, I'll give my service to Newegg.
That said, this is a pretty nice rig, and I hope you get out of your financial issues. I just think 10-20% off retail is fair mark down on used parts.

What miner are you using? If you're using CGminer from a shortcut, just at --gpu-memclock desired mem clock. For example, I use --gpu-memclock 300.

Seriously, FFS. We've had a crazy amount of these lately. Always use escrow and be careful with new sellers.

Mining not running today? I had problem earlier, maybe fixed now
Been running like a top all day here.

100 is like 5850 prices...
Agreed. $145 isn't very far off when it comes to a fair price especially since it takes a whopping 3 minutes to get the fan on and running again... which leads me to a question: Do the shroud and fan assemblies come with all the screws?

Binary! Binary! Binary!

This seller (naval12) was a scammer. The 9800gtx's, 5870 and power supply were non-existent. I won the power supply, and the order was canceled on Bitmit (by the admins) because he was a scammer.

Darn. Guess I broke instead of fixed dynamic. I'll have to investigate again soon...
I've committed a change to the git tree which should fix it. Can anyone who has the problem and builds from git confirm please? Will you be pushing a fixed windows binary out? I just ran into the same -10 issue with dynamic set.
