481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: September 01, 2013, 04:44:27 PM
As of 9/1 we will be removing the follow coins:
PPC - WDC - XMP

Why?
Due to the lack of transactions

In my opinion, the useful thing to do is not to write them and just ask that they leave it there, but rather (or also) to improve on what is the primary cause.

It seems almost all discussions about primecoin are about mining, and the technical aspects of it not even the mathematical implications behind. A lot of "I get X blocks with a xeon XYZ", "I did not get any block since 2 days, is it working?", "I finally got a block, I can confirm there is a lot of variance", "how do you compile on ubuntu XYZ?", over and over again.

I am convinced that it would be beneficial for the coin that there would be somehow a community of users behind, not only a community of miners. Some more services need to be set up, primecoin-specific (even better) or not, but the total lack of widening in discussions is a bit worrying for the future of the coin. At least as price is concerned, if these aspects do not improve, I'm not seeing the coin going anywhere.

This is normal, the coin is in its accumulation stage.  That will drecrease as the difficulty increases

Disregard the troll...

484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 01, 2013, 04:36:20 PM
How will the delivery of the BETA GPU miner be delivered to the ~ 80+ donators Huh

Two options.

With great difficulty.

Or not at all.

I think this thing got a bit out of hand for mtlmr, though. I'm doubtful he'll be able to handle delivering it to so many people, unless if he PM'd the donators some private URL to which the miner will be uploaded when the time comes, or something.
I don't think this is so hard to do at all
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Pick your favorite Alt-Coin! on: September 01, 2013, 04:30:25 PM
Crap, I tried to add more but apparently 126 entries is the poll limit;(
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multi Cryptocoin Payment Processing [Coin List Vote] on: September 01, 2013, 04:29:19 PM
I voted for XPM, it the only currency I keep other than BTC
487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: yPool.net XPM Pooled CPU Mining!!! on: September 01, 2013, 04:28:32 PM
It still doesn't make any sense to me that someone that has not found a block in the last 80 blocks that the pool has found could have a share value so high.  Matter of fact, the last block that xpm12 found was 46 hours ago.  That is hundreds of blocks ago.  Something is very wrong here.
The new reward system that comes with the experimental miner pays a little bit more than the other miners as an initiative for people to switch and for developers to implement it in their miners. It's also decoupled from shares and instead uses the estimated chance to find a block within a given timespan to reward the miner. It effectively removes the luck factor of finding good shares or blocks.

Previously, if two users with the exact same hardware configuration and the same miner version mined for 5 hours, their reward was vastly different. Just because one was luckier than the other. This is exactly the opposite of what pool mining is about. With pooled mining we try to decrease the spikes in the payout and make it more even for all. If someone finds no blocks he will still get paid for trying, if someone finds a lot of blocks he still gets paid the same amount.
If someone wants the full reward for being lucky then go for solo. In the end you should get about same amount of XPM from solo mining and pooled mining (minus pool fee)

Edit: I just checked the stats and it's kind of strange. The mentioned user has doubled his share value but still has not found a block. I will look into it.
Edit2: All fine, he just added a lot of machines and he found already enough blocks.
Where do we get this experimental miner?
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] CUDA enabled qt client miner for primecoins. Source code inside. WIP on: September 01, 2013, 04:27:18 PM
Too bad, I have an awesome nvidia based gaming rig.  I use the cpu for xpm mining but the gpus just sit idle
489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multi Cryptocoin Payment Processing [Coin List Vote] on: September 01, 2013, 03:38:11 AM
XPM is the third most popular coin after BTC and LTC.  Why would you remove it?  I think write now people in the hoarding phase, but this is not a coin you want to drop.  It will surpass LTC soon I think.

Check out the poll results: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=264016.0
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Pick your favorite Alt-Coin! on: September 01, 2013, 03:20:52 AM
I vote Extremecoin.

Can you add it to the poll please.

Thanks.
never heard of it - can you give me a link to its forum thread?
491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 01, 2013, 12:10:55 AM
I just wanted to apologize for overall being an asshole.

I'm sure explanation is not necesarry.

Have a good day, and good luck.

Wow, I'm surprised, you seemed like you had a vendetta against him. Good job on taking responsibility and apologizing Smiley

On another note it looks like Mtrlt is playing the donation card. I tried to get mine back because I no longer have any significant gpu power and his response was "So you want a donation back?". I think that's lame, it's obvious that the vast majority of the "donaters" were actually paying for early access. I know I know, it was a risk I took but that doesn't mean refusing to give back what for all intents and purposes was a payment isn't lame. It would be nice if he would man up and just send me the BTC back.
I don't think he even ethically obligated to do so. As long as he holds up his end of the understanding, to give you early access to the beta, then not reasonable to ask for donation back since your personnal situation changed. He already spent the time make the miner afterall.
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] PETITION Primecoin listing on BTC-e on: August 31, 2013, 09:18:33 PM
They know it... A month ago they asked me what is it. I've recommended to add XPM/BTC pair already.

They are that out of touch? Wow.
It is arguably the third most popular coin currently after BTC and then LTC (and LTC popularity on the decline). Definitely an opportunity for them and I would rather not keep using mcxnow.  Realsolid does not strike me as trustworthy at all.
493  Economy / Gambling / Re: PrimeDice.com | *NEW* V2.0 | Free BTC | Low House Edge (1%) | Instant Deposits | on: August 31, 2013, 08:18:57 PM

494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 31, 2013, 08:17:43 PM
The Linux versions seem to be more stable.

+1 don't know why people even bother with windows when it comes to rack mounted servers.  Shows a true level of ignorance of what a server actually does.  "oh well i use windows on my desktop, so i better use windows on my server". lol.
I think their may be a place for a Windows server for certain applications such as web hosting.  But I agree, Linux is usually superior
495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: yPool.net XPM Pooled CPU Mining!!! on: August 31, 2013, 08:16:46 PM
Is a pain in the as though.  Had 10 machines running and doing nothing for hours
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Primecoin VPS mining with higher returns! - please close on: August 31, 2013, 08:12:36 PM
The GPU miner will be very bad for the VPS business which had a huge boom from primecoin miners.  Well, all good things must come to an end...
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Primecoin XPM] [Giveaway] Share Something about Primecoin ~ Get A XPM Tip!!! on: August 31, 2013, 08:10:22 PM
I never got my tip!
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] PETITION Primecoin listing on BTC-e on: August 31, 2013, 08:09:53 PM
Does BTC-E even know about this thread or primecoin?
499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin High Performance Linux Compilation Guide on: August 31, 2013, 08:09:16 PM
Thanks for the clear instructions, worked easily on 12.04 w/updates. I have one chugging away on pretty old hardware, was rewarded finally with 1.

Can anyone give examples for proxy use? I have .bashrc environment variables set up already, but does not seem to be used. I see the setting as null whille watching.
Any changes required for compiling -hp10 on Ubuntu?
500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] [FASTER!] Mining PrimeCoin using DigitalOcean (VPS) on: August 31, 2013, 08:08:34 PM
So is DigitalOcean still banning primecoin miners?  Seems most of the VPS are primecoin hostile claiming it is against their TOS.
