481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][JPC]JackpotCoin, 1st Separate PoW/PoS#Jackpot#True Random#New Hash Algo! on: May 27, 2014, 07:56:22 PM
Is anyone steaking coins, my coins are here for 2 days already and still no steak
How often is Stake generated? Nothing for me over 2 days, but perhaps the Coins have to mature first?
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PIG] Piggycoin - UPDATE YOUR PIGGYBANKS to 1.4. PoS, X11, reduced supply! on: May 27, 2014, 06:56:03 PM
Question for OP: the 500M in the graphic - what does that refer to? Just wanted to clarify. Thanks!

Our new maximum # of coins Smiley
Ok, that's the *new* cap that comes into being when the new wallet launches. I think I get it now, so the ambiguity in the Specification section makes sense now. Looking forward to the new features like POS. I've noticed that this is implemented seemingly very differently for different coins. Some (eg DEM) although not tested yet, only release a stake yearly; others like CGB function very well and reliably each month. What are the plans for Piggycoin in the stake frequency, and is it distributed directly proportional to wallet size?

Has Bter updated? Sending payment there just got shown as "payment to yourself"...
I have just updated client - do I need to reindex?
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Deutsche eMark - DEM - altcoin SHA256 POS/POW on: May 25, 2014, 05:57:45 PM
Just lurking. what are some future plans for the coin?
It would be good to hear from the devs how the POS works. The DEM POS minting guides are a little sketchy. I can unlock the wallet for minting, but the stake is always set at 0.00. I am guessing that as according to OP that the POS minting only applies to coins held for more than 1 year, and I haven't held any coins for that long yet. The other explanation is that it doesn't work. I guess we will find out on Oct 15th 2014 when its DEMs birthday.
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Proof of Stake System is the Most Viable on: May 21, 2014, 11:04:35 AM
Peercoin POS is not user-friendly, in my opinion. To, mint, the wallet gets unlocked, and at that stage is the wallet secure? Information and security of the minting process is limited. Plus, having set up the minting process perfectly OK on other coins, not managed to get any POS from PPC, ever, despite going through the process and waiting months, following all instructions etc. Seems that other people find the instructions hard to understand:

The new DPOS from Bitshares sounds very carefully thought out, and promises to be faster - its not released yet though. I hope its fairer than PPC.

Am I the only one getting a virus alert from the "arkenstoned.exe" file?
Bitdefender antivirus flags it, and automatically deletes it. Not sure what to make of it.

I'm mining here: http://pool.mycryptoco.in/ really good!

Thanks Smiley

Also mining at this pool for Arkenstone. Waiting for a payout. Also my reported hashrate is not showing correctly on their end. I have 4th pointed to it and it's only showing about 1.2. Not sure if this is an error on their API or they aren't setting the difficulty properly to fully utilize SHA-256.

It takes a few minutes to display the correct hashrate. Most probably not an error on our site. But when it continues, please get in touch, so that we can figure this out.

We are paying out immediately after ARS mature. It takes 200 blocks before the Arkenstone client lets us spend mined coins, so the first payout will happen in 2 days and 2 hours approximately. (200 blocks to mature x 15 minutes block time = 50 hours = 2.2 days) We'd like this to be faster, too; but this is a decision the Arkenstone dev has to make.

Thanks for the update. Wow, they take some time to confirm! Coins are coming in now from your pool...
489  Other / Off-topic / Re: Google is evil on: May 17, 2014, 10:38:18 PM
I stoped using google a year or so ago and went over to startpage instead. https://startpage.com/

Impressive. Although it uses Google, it queries it remotely, and it doesn't store IPs. Seems very fast and accurate. Worth looking at...

I was mining there but have not received payment yet (2.5 days or so later)      have u been receiving payouts?
On this pool for 2 days. No payouts yet. The mining page has said this from the start: "FIRST PAYOUT IN ~2 DAYS AND 2 HOURS!"
I guess we find out tomorrow.

493  Economy / Economics / Re: What reserve ratio do UK commercial banks require to lend/create money? on: April 30, 2014, 08:54:16 PM
So we all know that commercial banks create new money out of thin air, in the form of loans and mortgages.

My question is what fraction of loans must they hold in reserves/deposit, and who enforces these regulations?

I thought the figure (in the UK) was between 1% and 10%, but I've read in a few places that there is no technical limit, and that commercial banks can basically lend out as much as they like, no matter how little they hold in reserve. Obviously they run the risk of becoming insolvent if they do this recklessly.

According to Wikipedia:

Quote
Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden have no reserve requirements.

This does not mean that banks can - even in theory - create money without limit. On the contrary: banks are constrained by capital requirements, which are arguably more important than reserve requirements even in countries that have reserve requirements.

I'm trying to get my head round the details of "capital requirements" right now, the definitions are a bit complicated. I hope someone can enlighten me!  Smiley
Some articles that may be of interest:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_requirement
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/03/25/uk-lloyds-banking-capital-idUKBREA2O0J420140325

Also this one:
http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/publications/Pages/news/2013/097.aspx

So it seems to be around 4.5-8% and is being regulated up to ?11%. Some of the definitions seem to vary, and this seems to be open to a bit of stats fudging.

Please add transaction comments (or "answers") to 42, with of course the most popular ones voted in for each block, so that the blockchain evolves into the answer to everything.

it seemed like an interesting concept at first but official site is registered in canada... seems odd for a first nations based out of the US
Canada is possibly slightly more Bitcoin/Altcoin friendly.
