483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: More MH/s from Your GPU? on: August 11, 2011, 01:17:21 PM
I am mining with few 5870, using MSI afterburner to overlock them. I tried to underlock memory clock to 340 to check performance, but unfortunately I was not able to set it, because MSI afterburner let me to underclock memory clock just to minimum at 600Mhz. Anyone else expierencing this issue?
Previously, I have used Sapphire trixx software, I managed to underclock my cards to 300Mhz with no problems, but with that software cards didn't work stable, and sometimes even locked up. MSI Afterburner has no issues with locking up, so I prefer to use it.
See this guide on how to enable unofficial overclocking modes in MSI After Burner & bypass the limitations: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=18102.msg229511#msg229511

There's lots of previous discussions to be dug up through Google searches regarding Amazons GPU service and Bitcoin mining though it has been proved to be completely not profitable, for example see this analysis: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7573.msg111156#msg111156

I highly recommend Sierra Chart with Slush's tool to pull the market data: http://bitcointalk.org/?topic=6019

487  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x6990 Possible with 1000w PSU? on: August 11, 2011, 04:52:10 AM
I'm running 2 6990's on a coolermaster silent pro 1kw bronze, it has an i7 920 & 12gb ram & 2 x 1tb sata drives. Its been running perfectly for over a month now and my cpu is around 85% 24/7, ram around 10gb. I have the cards in the overclocked position @ 920/600. I do need to plug my kill-a-watt in at some point because I know I'm right on the limit if not probably over with the amount of cpu/ram usage.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, the PSU is rated for something like 1200w burst, 1000w continual and it comes with a nice lengthy warranty.

489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Golden Age of Mining on: August 10, 2011, 12:23:08 PM
And those miners are getting a lot of sleepless nights worrying about their wallet.dat file.

Must be a nightmare if you have $100k+ in bitcoins and it is all dependant on you keeping one 256bit private key secure.
What is more you have no real "Police" or "Courts" to help protect you (as they do not understand bitcoins).

Also you have the dilemma of sell or not!

Luckily I only have 1.62 bitcoins that I bought just to try the whole thing out - so I really do not care if someone finds out my private key!

I don't see why, it's very easy to create a completely secure offline wallet.

I am not a trading expert so could someone please outline the negative effects OP's concerns have on users of this market?
493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: link broken, alternative source? on: July 31, 2011, 06:43:02 PM
Hi all I'm using this guide to set everything up: http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=7514.0

But when I get to step 16 the link is broken:
16. svn checkout http://svn3.xp-dev.com/svn/phoenix-miner/trunk

Is there an alternative source? Thanks
snv checkout http://svn3.xp-dev.com/svn/phoenix-miner/trunk/ works fine here.
Can you browse that page it in a browser such as Chrome?
494  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Modified Kernel for Phoenix 1.4 on: July 30, 2011, 05:45:21 PM
V2 works fine on my windows box with 11.6 drivers and sdk 2.4 (gives me around 3mhs extra)
But it does not work on my linux boxes with 11.5 drivers and sdk 2.1 or 2.4, giving errors such as  FATAL kernel error: Failed to load OpenCL kernel!

Dropped back to diapolo's version on my linux box.

Thanks!

Buy a stock cooler, you don't need anything fancy for a mining rig. Noise from a cpu fan will also be the least of your worries with multiple gpus going full throttle.
496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is this safe? on: July 29, 2011, 11:12:12 PM
If you can, it would be better to have this setup on a completely different system.
I use a cheap laptop with ubuntu just for my bitcoin wallet.

498  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Dual GPUS, 100% CPU Usage. Windows Only Problem? on: July 29, 2011, 01:37:10 PM
Sorry, I totally forgot about this thread.
Well my gpu's came and I have the rig all setup running ubuntu with 6990's using 11.5 drivers and so far I haven't experienced the 100% cpu bug so I assume its a windows only thing at this point.
499  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Risk of damage from extreme memory underclock on 6990? on: July 29, 2011, 01:25:53 PM
I flashed the bios on my 6990 with RBE after getting totally pissed with aticonfig and 11.6 drivers not actually adhering to the clocks I set.
I set the memory clock limit to 150mhz though aticonfig will still only allow me to clock 125mhz lower then my core clock, if I go past 125mhz difference the clock lowers down to my 150mhz limit, which is pretty good for me because it saves me almost 150w of power and around 10C temperature.
I am wondering though whether this can/will cause any damage to my card? I've had it run stable for around 3 hours and then decided to increase the clock until I get confirmation from someone more knowledgeable then myself.

I'm sorry for being ageist but there is no way in hell I would take an 18 year old kid serious enough to house my rigs.
When I was 19 I tried multiple times to setup my own business with rented facilities and every landlord laughed me out of the door because of my age.
Wait until you are in your mid twenties before anyone will take you seriously.
