Change in hands, from MVP to SMC hahaha.. what we will going to expect, another business matter? Hoping it' for the betterment of the national squad and not just for the business behind, though it's too early to judge things out, for me if it's for the betterment I won't mind if this takeover take place, I like coach Tim and with the big influence of Al Francis Chua, it will be an easy negotiation with players/target prospect to deal with.

First stop, ASEAN game if this newly form squad wins, it's better to keep the players and continue to work out with practices that will establish good blends among them.

If all is for the benefits of the country, for sure they will stay and they will dedicate their time for good improvement of the program.

Change of hands indeed, they used to call our Philippine team as Smart Gilas but they removed the word "Smart" as it is the national team and not a team solely owned by MVP hehe.

But I'm sure that Boss RSA's goal here to give Gilas a fighting chance in the Asian Games, not just to represent but the objective is to be on the podium that is why they changed the roster that was first released and the good addition to the lineup is the inclusion of Mikey Williams, a good scorer that can complement the scoring of JB.

Serbia is in the final, congrats to this team
Bogdanovic came on top as leader, and was driving factor to the win today

now we have to hope for Germany to upset USA, or we have to do it ourselves, although silver is more than we hopped for before tournament

Bogdanovic was unstoppable and the Canadian's isolation plays didn't work well with the defense of the Serbians. Just wonder though if they could go this far is their MVP is playing, i mean ball rotation of the Serbians was superb without Jokic. Anyways, it is what it is and now they are on the Finals and thanks to that upset and my bet ticket won  Smiley.

Second game, i do't think their will be an upset here as USA for me really playing well after that defeat in the hands of the Lithuanians, might be close but i see Serbia and US playing for the Finals.
484  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Shakur Stevenson vs Frank Martin - tentative date 11/16 or 12/9 on: September 08, 2023, 10:53:08 AM
The only hype that they are going to go on this fight is the fact Martin is undefeated and he is an undefeated fight but they cannot hype it as the fight will be equal, they are going to hype it because Martin has a good chance to upset Shakur, Martin is not yet ready for Shakur whereas Shakur faces a lot of fighters better than Martin.
The only chance Martin can beat Shakur is if Shakur underestimates the power of Martin and comes unprepared, all analyses put Shakur as the overwhelming favorite.

I don't think that Shakur would let his guard down this time as he knew that big paydays are ahead if he could beat this obstacle. You are right, in terms of talent level, Frank Martin is way below than that of Shakur and upset on this match is very slim because Shakur will be focus as he is eyeing to fight either Loma or Haney next so a lose is not an option here and uncle Bob knows that hehe.
485  Local / Pamilihan / Re: GILAS PILIPINAS UPDATE ON FIBA WORLD CUP! on: September 07, 2023, 11:38:22 AM

For the coaching job, i think coach Chot Reyes is now out of Gilas as Tim Cone was named as the head coach for the Asian Games stint, that's according to Spin.ph but we don't know yet if coach Tim officially accepted the offer since no statement yet coming form him as of this writing.

At least we will see changes on the set plays when coach Tim will take over and hope no more bashing on the coaching staff this time around hehe.

Tim Cone named Gilas coach for daunting Asian Games mission
Yes!
I also saw that news that Chot is out of the Gilas and he really did meant what he said to judge him during the world cup. At least he's now out of it and let the other coach handle everything for the Asian games. I remember that Tim Cone said that if Chot is out, he's also out.
But not this time, and let's see if he's going to be a good fit to the Gilas on this run. Well, Tab, knowing that he's in the rumor of going out of the country and has been hired by the Indonesian team is just sad. (https://newsko.com.ph/2023/09/06/tab-baldwin-inintrigang-pipiratahin-ng-indonesia/)

With regards to coach Tab Baldwin, I don't know if he was officially hired by Indonesia but reports had it that he still has three years contract with the Ateneo Blue Eagles and most likely he is the top choice to lead Gilas once again. If I were him, I would choose Gilas rather than the Indonesian team that has not yet qualified for the FIBA World Cup, and doing so will take a huge effort and a ton of money hiring players to be naturalized, just my two cents.

It might a good fight in paper, but I'm seeing Stevenson winning in the hands of the judges.

Same thought here mate, Shakur is the next big name in boxing if handled properly. With this announcement, his supposed fight with Loma is off by now but the good thing with Frank Martin is that the latter has no loss on his record, this might add curiosity on some so that they will watch this fight but the truth is, this is a fight where Shakur will win no matter what as he can't afford to have a backslide on his glamorous career.
488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: September 07, 2023, 06:23:02 AM

Regarding the coaching job, I guess we can't do anything about it. If Coach Chot continues to be the one coaching, then let's just hope he does a better job.

Just need to accept that fact, we can't do nothing aside from supporting the national team, if Chot decided to continue his role in this tournament we don't have any capabilities to stop that happening, it's been quite a while but Chot still ignoring what fans wants him to do, being booed inside your home crowd, something that he should be considering but seems that he will choose to go and still handling the coaching mentor.

Yes, for me coach Tim will be enough in case super coach Chot will be true to his words that he will let go the post, I mean coach Tab is coach Tab and his contributions to the development of young generations really bring great outcome to the players, though his greatness is just wasted by the fact that super coach Chot can easily manipulate as he's the golden son of the SBP, hahaha just kidding but hopefully just still hoping for the best for our nationals and for the future development of this program.

For coach Tab, wherever he is, I believe that he respects the management and he will continue to be an inspiration to those who manage to work and play with him.

Coach Chot Reyes and assistant coach Tim Cone will still be the official coach and assistant coach this coming Asian Games as their names were submitted by the POC before July 25, the deadline for the roster's submission, and whomever they put on the roster will be the official players and coaches so coach Chot Reyes is not yet officially retired from Gilas coaching job.

What's up with his statement that he stepped aside after the game against China? Does it mean he will still be part of the coaching staff but not as the head coach? If that's the scenario, I don't find it helpful, as the old system might still be in use, and it's possible he could still influence the head coach's decisions in practice. I don't understand it; please enlighten me if you know.

That may be from the burst of emotion as he was booed by the crowd during the introduction but legally he still has duties with the Gilas this coming Asian Games and you are right, the same kind of play but some new faces as Clarkson, Ramos, and Sotto will not suit up for the Gilas for the Asian Games. This is one problem that SBP must solve, no permanent players and they only practice for a limited period of time.

Posted below the video that i saw earlier. SBP will have to appeal if they want to change the coaching staff.

24-46 end of first half. Matic na ito USA to the Semi Finals.

I also make my bet on the last game today

Canada (1.27) VS Slovenia (3.70)

For me, I think Slovenia will likely strike an upset against the Canadian team as not only do they have Luka Doncic on their team but Slovenia is a focused team and they also have Mike Tobey and Klemen Prepelic in the team so for sure I think they can win against Canada, so my pick is Slovenia

I will be tailing your bet on this one mate because I think Luka's magic will work here in Manila and to think that this Canadian team is vulnerable i think as their plays rely on talent, most of it were isolations (i might be wrong but that's what I saw).

Got lucky in the first game, I thought I lost that one already but fortunately Latvia had a run on the dying minutes thus making the game close.

Italy ML @11.0 vs US

Taking my chances here though i like the US to win but their lack of experience might cost this game for them tonight.

I like your call. I believe the USA is overrated, and Italy has been winning games since they visited Pacman. Maybe they got inspired by Pacman, LOL. Anyway, I still love the pick; it's like 'go big or go home.' Good luck; I'm joining you!

Good luck, guys! The game has started, and it seems like it's a close one, so there's a chance, hehe. The USA likes to play small ball; maybe Italy has a good strategy to counter their style. The fact that the USA has lost once already indicates they have a weakness that any team could exploit. Italy has also lost once, but we've seen how good they are when they move the ball well, so it could be a 50-50 game.

End of the first quarter and the US is leading by 10 points, 3's were not there for the Italians due to US' good defense.

If the Italians could not adjust to the defense of the US then i think this is money in the bag for the Americans.
494  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - November on: September 05, 2023, 12:43:20 PM
Being honest is good, even though Tapales is our very own, it's hard to be biased. Inoue is the better fighter, and most likely, he will win the fight. His camp is probably already planning for his next fight, as Tapales doesn't possess the killer instinct that could trouble Inoue in the ring. Our best chance now to witness a great fight is if Inoue vs. Casimero happens. It might not seem as interesting in terms of what's at stake for Inoue, as he would be a unified champion by then. However, in terms of pure competition, I think that's what we're hoping for.

This is Inoue's division for now (122lbs) and we should taper down our expectations on Tapales because the chance is very slim for him to win this fight. Casimero's chance on landing a fight with Inoue is if he became a mandatory challenger on one of the belts but he should also be winning his every fight convincingly so the boxing community would glamour to see that Casimero vs Inoue fight to happen.

As JC said, that was not his last time playing with Gilas; he loves to play with Gilas. So, the longer he plays, the more he will develop great chemistry, and maybe next time, he will be able to join the early preparations.

Hope by the next FIBA World Cup, their will be enough players who can help him win games because this version of Gilas, though they are better now than the previous but still the offensive plays where so predictable, almost of all the plays, Clarkson touches the ball and when the opponents double JC, he has some trouble passing to his teammates.

Meanwhile, SBP has already released the roster for the upcoming Asian games, see below.

Quote
Justin Brownlee
Ange Kouame
Kiefer Ravena
Scottie Thompson
RR Pogoy
June Mar Fajardo
CJ Perez
Japeth Aguilar
Jamie Malonzo
Chris Newsome
Calvin Oftana
Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser

For sure having an 85 - 73 against Montenegro for sure isn't really that bad it was a close game but still a great game for sure Tyrese Haliburton made a great play and passing the ball into a open players, but against Lithuania that have cause them the downfall was really a punch for them because if they win against Montenegro they lost against Lithuania, great job for Lithuania from start to finish they are leading the game for sure and the USA is having a hardtime taking the lead even though Anthony Edwards made a remarkable lead score the Lithuania made a great spread of score towards the whole team so it was a sure defeat for the USA,

US has made an adjustment in the second half of that game but the lead was huge in the first half that they fell short but nevertheless, it was a good learning experience for them playing against a European team.

These recent game were so unpredictable, Italy beat Serbia while Serbia was blowing out Lithuania for the finals contention while the odds for US vs Italy is so juicy if you are rooting for the Italians to upset the US in the next couple of hours.

Italy ML @11.0 vs US

Taking my chances here though i like the US to win but their lack of experience might cost this game for them tonight.
497  Local / Pamilihan / Re: GILAS PILIPINAS UPDATE ON FIBA WORLD CUP! on: September 04, 2023, 08:47:48 AM

Quote
The Philippines will be among the 24 countries that will vie for the four tickets to Paris in the OQT next year.

Gilas may have only one of its five games but it surpassed its previous winless and 32nd finish in the 2019 World Cup in Foshan, China as it placed 24th overall and third best in Asia in its second hosting of the World Cup.

Gilas Pilipinas earns ticket for Paris Olympics qualifiers

498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 - Betting and Discussions on: September 04, 2023, 08:39:02 AM
To be honest, I was surprised that America lost.

I'm not quite surprised of the outcome, i initially thought that US would win but with a slim margin, my gauge was that they struggled against Montenegro. With Lithuania firing from all cylinders in the first half no doubt they will be the champion of this year's FIBA World Cup if they repeat that performance in the Finals (considering they would get a slot). America for me is a young team so betting for them in the quarters is a bit risky that is why i would back their opponents with that high spread if there is an opportunity.

499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 - Betting and Discussions on: September 03, 2023, 03:08:33 AM
Since Gilas is already eliminated and they don't have any more games in this tournament and i think people in the Philippines will surely be rooting for the USA to be the champion of this year's FIBA World Cup. They have a game today against Lithuania and i just wanted to ask the opinion of some users here if USA will be able to cover that -14.5 spread as I'm hesitant to put my money on them with that wide spread.

Sa wakas nakapanalo rin tayo. Congrats Pilipinas.

Great game Gilas

@bisdak40, panalo ka ba kabayan?
