I recommend buying 5 more 5970s from me My first order of business is getting this one set up and mining. Once I have more knowledge on this subject, I might be interested.

Hiding whois info != building trust.
I think you meant: Hiding whois info != !building trust.

BAMT is a debian on USB with everything ready for mining. simply edit a txt file at boot or SSH using root:changeme
Do you have a link handy?

Personally, I'm just seeking fuller disclosure before I provide my credit card number to purchase Bitcoin from SimpleCoin. Be honest, you won't ever buy anyway regardless of the striptease simplecoin performs to please you. Simplecoin can't ever steal your money because you can issue a chargeback and you know that. This 'concern' is all just for your own entertainment. That's my private opinion. It's up to you to notice the extra fraudulent charges and call your credit card company. A lot of people don't notice...

I had problems with the download of blocks some weeks ago, it was because of the missing receiver CSV files. Do you have them all?
I have 6 receiver files, all in my devcoin-qt directory on my desktop, where I'm running devcoin-qt from, not in the .devcoin directory. receiver_0.csv through receiver_5.csv

Sorry to keep harping on this, but I still can't get the block chain to download in devcoin-qt. Does anyone have any ideas of things I can check to try and get it working?

What if mtgox screws up and sends all those bitcoins to the null address like they did with 2000 BTC a while ago?! :O
Then all our BTC are instantly worth more?

Passwords are salted and encrypted before being added to database.
Not to be pedantic, but I hope you mean salted and hashed, not salted and encrypted. Big difference.

Thanks for the response CleverMiner. It's only been a month or two since I found out about Bitcoin, and I'm finally jumping into mining to give it a shot. This card is very noisy when overcloked, if you are not to have it around I suggest you to use BAMT on a USB as a the minner.
Noise (and heat) are not a problem, as this will be in my basement shop. I'm not sure what BAMT is? I am considering either cgminer or phoenix, as these are the two miners I have heard the most about. For a pool I suggest ars technica pool, nmcbit, abcpool (haven't used)
I'm not sure Ars Technica is a good choice. In the thread on that pool, it seems to be on its last leg. For a pool, I think I want merged mining with NMC and a pool that pays well. I don't understand the different payout schemes the different pools use; I have not spent any effort looking into that. What recommendation might you have on that point? Is it also true that running linux from a live CD (or a live CD on a USB stick) end up being faster? Please explain.

BitMagic, healthy skepticism is good, but I think you're going to a rather unwarranted extreme.

Thanks. I still haven't had any success in getting the block chain to download though. So I don't know if I'll see the devcoins. Sometimes when I load devcoin, for whatever reason, I don't download any new blocks. Usually when I try again later it works. By the way, after I posted I realized that an informative installation post gets double the post bounty, so you get 2/5 of a share. I've updated bounty_6 accordingly: https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/bounty_6.csvThanks. I'll keep trying and see if I can't get devcoin to work for me.

Hi all. I am developer. English is not my native language. And I have a huge CPU power.
CPU mining it pretty much irrelevant. Not for alt currencies such as litecoin.

I've successfully deposited and withdrawn BTC and LTC, although twice they have had problems with deposits not showing up. When that was the case, they had it fixed within about 24 hours. That's been my experience.

Do you see what I'm getting at? The entire value of these things (minus the raw brass, silver, or gold) is dependent on 1) Mike being honest, and 2) you never being able to verify if mike was honest with the coin you're holding. He sells an object that requires you to risk throwing away everything you paid for it just to be certain you can trust him.
Only problem is his honesty has been verified by the random sampling of physical bitcoins that have been opened and redeemed by presumably independent persons. 1 BTC coins 46/3836 = 1% 10 BTC coins 0/11 = 0% 25 BTC coins 6/249 = 2% 100 BTC coins 12/34 35% http://www.uberbills.com/casascius/I think we can be fairly certain that all coins that have been sold have been loaded with the BTC. If he were to load all BTC as expected, but keep a copy of the private key *that* is where a problem might be.

This, right here, folks, is why bitcoins will fail. Because everyone with a small stack throws their money at some of the worst ideas on the planet, and most people with an ounce of sense wouldn't even bother.
Huh?

Thanks for the info. I'll have to see about running the daemon. That may fix my block downloading problem too.

Hi Btc_novice, Indeed that would be better. Thanks for the suggestion and links. You get an informative post bounty, which is 1/5 of a generation share. Please post a devcoin address and you'll be added to the next receiver list. Is this offer still valid? If so, my devcoin address is: 19QEeVsj53HVdrz8xxbPTH9HZ8xDYU3WaK Thanks! Note, I still can't get the blockchain to start downloading.... and I've run out of ideas.

I've got a 5970 on the way. I'm planning to put it in a computer I already have running Ubuntu 11.10. What are your recommendations for:
- Overclocking - What miner to use - What pool to use - Any other tweaks to the miner software to get more MH/s
This will be my first attempt at GPU mining. I'm approaching it as a hobby, and just want to see how many bitcoins I can get out of it.
Thanks.
