4821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETC mining is more profitable than ETH mining... ETC DEAD ? on: September 29, 2020, 03:46:42 PM
I'm mining Ethereum Classic on nicehash and it works, I'm using 6x rx570 to mine and since Nicehash change to BTC for payment you don't have to worry about the 51% attack anymore and again you can mine ETC direct and still be able to sell on binance, there is enough liquidity and volume.

On Nicehash you don't get paid in altcoins. Basically someone is renting hash to mine ETC and they pay Nicehash in BTC and then later Nicehash take a percentage and gives you the rest in Bitcoin. So obviously this is perfectly safe but its not safe for the one renting the hashrate which they can get stuck with reorged blocks and mine at a huge loss.

This is actually how most of the 51% attacks happened, someone rented a large amount of hashrate and then used that hashrate to make the attacks. I am pretty sure Nicehash had something in their power to prevent this from happening but did nothing.
4822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0 (Windows/Linux) on: September 29, 2020, 03:38:09 PM
windows 10, 8gb rx580 in main slot with 7x4gb rx580, with "eres". Since yesterday the 4gb cards will not mine even though claymore starts and runs with no DAG errors

If the 8GB in the main slot doesn't work then there is nothing else that will make it work because Windows needs to put a certain amount of cache in the GDDR memory. So it loads the most in the main GPU but it also needs to add some little cache in the 4GB GPUs. If they stopped working also its because the small amount of cache is enough to make it run out of memory.

So using another miner under the same OS won't work. I tried all the miner software out there and none of them worked. The easiest way is to just get SMos which is easy to set up and should work right off the bat. Only issue with SMOS is you need ethernet because the wifi won't work. If you need Wifi then you need to install Ubuntu which will make most Wifi adapters work straight out of the box.

Either way, even if you do this. You got maybe 1.5-2.0 months of mining left, so if you want to mine long term you need to upgrade your farm to 8GB GPUs.
4823  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Elliott Wave Theory for dummies on: September 29, 2020, 05:35:26 AM
I tried learning and trading Elliot waves back when I was trading stocks or forex and I found it very accurate and everything as long as it was in highsight. Then I decided to use it in forward/real live trading and it didn't help at all. The issue is you have no reason of knowing what wave you are in. You might think you are in one wave but you might still be in the previous wave.

It got so difficult and confusing that I just stopped using it all together as a TA. I just use moving averages and trendlines and basic support/resistance. Right now its all about market sentiment and TA won't help you with that. Basically stocks go up, go long on bitcoin and do the reverse if true.

If Trump wins election then go long on bitcoin and crypto and there isn't any TA that will predict that. Just use it as a guide and not much more. This is how you can survive the markets.
4824  Economy / Speculation / Re: New and important analysis of bitcoin on: September 29, 2020, 05:31:13 AM
Didn't realise that 17K worth of bitcoin were bought by Grayscale again. Its also bullish how that one investment firm bought like $500 million worth of BTC last month. Their average price was $11111. However the fact that price is still not >$12K is a little concerning.

Basically Grayscale buying, $500M hedge fund buys, BTC locked in wrapped ETH, etc should mean less supply and higher prices however its not. Seems there was tons of buying but an equal number of selling which is not good. I guess this is mostly due to what is going on in the global markets and how a second wave is happening and people might be moving to risk-off assets instead of stocks and crypto.

We will see what happens with the election and with the vaccines which should come out in about a month or so.
4825  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Sets Record 63 Straight Days Closing Above $10,000 on: September 29, 2020, 05:26:42 AM
Someone actually posted this about a month ago when BTC was in 2nd place for being above $10K since it exceeded 28 days of July 2019. And many people assumed back then that it would go under $10K quick and not beat the record this time around however I guess they were wrong.

Even though it was over $10K for 2 months it was above $15K for less than 2 weeks. Which goes to show you how quickly the last bear market turned and quickly the selling accelerated. Honestly I was around in 2017 and sold most below $10K and almost nothing between $10-20K in 2017 because I assumed we would get $25-$50K. Times were sure crazy back then.

Either way interesting article, as long as the stock market doesn't crash again we should remain stable.
4826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETC mining is more profitable than ETH mining... ETC DEAD ? on: September 29, 2020, 05:20:45 AM
There is an eip that will reduce a 4gb dag to 2.5gb making all 4gb and 3gb cards to work again, might help with the 51% attack as it will cost more to do a 51% attack but as the attack costs more the reward of doing it is also greater. So not sure if it really will help it.

Yeah this is actually a pretty smart move however I wonder if it will actually increase the hashrate big enough to make a 51% attack too expensive. In a month or two many of the ETH ASCIS (bitmains first ETH asic) and 4GB GPUs in general won't be able to mine pretty much anything at all. So they will obviously switch to ETC.

Also I still got some old R9 280X GPUs which are 3GB and you can put those to work again. Most likely won't make much because if I recall they consumed 200 Watts PER GPU but for someone with cheap power it might be one solution.

Wonder when the EIP will go live and when they will do the hard-fork upgrade however.
4827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0 (Windows/Linux) on: September 29, 2020, 05:05:54 AM
today 4gb card stopped working again, fix?

Are you using Windows 10? If setting -eres 0 doesn't work then there isn't much you can do but either upgrade 1 of your GPUs to 8GB and put it in the main slot. Or you can install Linux and use PhoneixMiner and you should be good for maybe up to 2 months or so.

I had the same issue as you, and couldn't get Claymore or PhoenixMiner to work under Windows 10. Switched to Linux and PhoenixMiner worked but Claymore still didn't. Was a pain to set up initially due to overclocking and undervolting settings but eventually got everything to work nice and stable.
4828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Noob's Guide to Building a $1,000 GPU MINING RIG ⛏ on: September 29, 2020, 05:01:47 AM
You can get away with 2 GPUs inside an enclosed case as long as you have good intake and exhaust fans AND if they are mounted vertically instead of horizontally. Most gamers keep their PC vertically up, so the GPUs are horizontal, and usually the crossfire/sli GPU is the one that suffers the heat from the first GPU since it only sucks in hot air and doesn't have as much of a bigger gap as the first GPU.

So the photo above might work and its actually a clean looking set up that you can keep in the living room and won't upset the wife. However with 2 GPUs you aren't going to make serious money anyways and is mostly considered as a hobby and a gateway into crypto since you can mine a little and don't need to go to an Bitcoin ATM to buy crypto.
4829  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the bitcoin price range as we enter the New Year on: September 27, 2020, 10:20:01 PM
Since its an election year its very difficult to predict. If Trump wins then I am pretty sure it will be $12K however he is loses then its hard to tell what it will be. Many are expecting a huge stock market sell-off if Trump loses and hence why many traders are on the sidelines until the election is over.

Remember what happened in 2016 when Trump won the election. Nobody could of predicted the type of rally that SP500 had since he became president. And right now its no different. Bitcoin is a risk-on correlated asset to stocks and what the stock market does... bitcoin and other crypto markets will follow suit. So New Years is way too far to predict an accurate price.
4830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETC mining is more profitable than ETH mining... ETC DEAD ? on: September 27, 2020, 10:00:49 PM
Yes currently its 20% more profitable. So if you got a few GPUs it doesn't make a difference but if you got a large farm of 100 GPUs its much more profitable to mine. However if you run into bad luck and end up mining blocks which get re-orged then you wasted all that time.

Currently you should just mine directly to your own wallet. You can make one in cold storage and just send all your mined ETC there and maybe in the future when the devs release some fix for these attacks and the confirmations are lowered on exchanges and deposits are re-enabled then send it to an exchange to sell.
4831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: cant find a right wallet to store etc (mining) !! on: September 27, 2020, 09:54:32 PM
Keep in mind that ETC recently had 51% attacks and many exchanges have disabled deposits. Hence there is a reason why the profitability is better because its more riskier to mine.

Since its the same fork as ETH you can use any  ETH desktop wallet as long as you got the private key for that wallet. It will work on the ETC network also. Just do a small transaction writing a raw transaction and make sure it works... it should.

If you want to mine to an exchange... use Coinbase but keep in mind the confirmation time is like 2 weeks. Hence you just need to use your own wallet.
4832  Economy / Speculation / Re: Federal Reserve Now Targets Inflation Above 2%, Bitcoin Breaks $11K on: September 27, 2020, 02:17:55 AM
The reason why bitcoin price increase is insane is because the technology that improved should also be the same in the price as well compared to today's prices. For example using your analogy the 128 mb memory and 4 gb storage was the highest in that time, and it was 500 dollars, the current high version has higher memory and a lot more storage but it is the high tech of today as well, which means it should be 500 dollar today as well, if in 10 years we have a lot better tech it should go up and it should be 500 dollar again.

A phone is a phone, no matter how high it gets, because time passes, and this means we should be reaching the better things with same money if there was no inflation, not because it is better tech. Better tech will continue to happen, by that logic there will be 10k+ dollar iphone, there shouldn't be if inflation is not high.

This doesn't really make much sense. The advance of technology has nothing to do with the inflation of financial markets. There is some law, Snell law of whatever is called and its basically normal to have computer increase computation every few years. However the price of the computers still increases slightly due to inflation. For example maybe 10 years ago you could buy a mid-tier i5 CPU for $200 and these days you can buy a mid-tier CPU for $300, and inflation is still taken into account.

But this has nothing to do with inflation. Sure an iPhone 1 cost maybe half of the latest iPhone but the newest iPhone is about 10x as fast, does that mean it needs to cost 10x as much? It would cost around $5000 for an iPhone XS which is not the case. This topic is about real inflation and how its so expensive to buy groceries or pay utilities and how wages haven't risen high enough and why the gap between the rich and poor is widening.
4833  Economy / Speculation / Re: The reason bitcoin price is not stable. on: September 27, 2020, 02:13:10 AM
Mostly its pretty much the small amount of liquidity as compared to normal financial markets. You don't realise it but you don't need much money to move price a large percentage. Add to the fact all these high leverage futures exchanges and its not uncommon a few times a year to get >20% days. Which is not normal in most markets.

A large portion of bitcoins price is based on news. Remember the potential ETF listing of March 2017, see how quickly priced moved before, during and after the event. It basically concludes that bitcoin has very small liquidity and hence why it has such swings. These days there is more liquidity however many of that liquidity is based on high leverage margin trades which is not good when the market has a deep correction as what happened in March 2020.
4834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: can someone help? on: September 25, 2020, 10:49:27 PM
So in conclusion the tesla k10 it would be a lost of time and money with no profits basically

what do you guys thing about going amd gpus the consumes much more electricity than nvidia gpus in general
it might be more profitable while i have low electricity rate.

Yes your electricity is very low so you are better off buying cheaper and slightly more inefficient GPUs. The best GPUs for you to buy is the RX 470/480/570/580 8GB. You need to make sure its 8GB because the 4GB will only work for another month or two.

They are fairly cheap, maybe they went up in price a little due to some of them being used in mining rigs once again but you can probably find a bunch for around $100 each second hand. After you are done mining you can probably resell them to gamers for almost the same price. As long as you don't burn up the card or have the fan bearings go out. However the fans are always replaceable.
4835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: September 25, 2020, 10:45:47 PM
The reason why they want to perform this reduction is because they know it won't affect security because right now ETHUSD is higher than say $80 bottom AND there is more per block in terms of fees, hence its much more profitable to mine.

So if they decrease the miner rewards they are pretty sure they will still have people mining it like they did when it traded at $80 per coin. However I wouldn't worry just yet, the EIP might not pass, but you never know. Generally they are always late on updates so even if its included in an upgrade it might take a while before it actually goes live.
4836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETC mining is more profitable than ETH mining... ETC DEAD ? on: September 25, 2020, 10:42:05 PM
Hey guys what do you think about mining ETC ?

Im not reallly sure some people say its dead, other say it is mineable without problems.
Are anybody here mining ETC ? do you have problems mining it ?

Best Greetings
Bery

ETC for the last few months has been having bad 51% attacks. So bad that most exchanges have disabled deposits... some have disabled withdraws and others have like a 2 WEEK confirmation period (Coinbase).

So there is a reason why its more profitable to mine than ETH its because its risky. The last 51% attack ended up reorging 2 days worth of blocks. So if you mined during that time you would get absolutely nothing in return for your work. It would be a waste of electricity pretty hence.

Hence why miners rather than ETH which is more stable and less profitable.
4837  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What actually makes a token pump? on: September 25, 2020, 03:03:49 AM
There are alot of ways that tokens get pumped. The first and most reliable is when it gets added to a new and more liquid exchange. Basically whenever a coin or token gets added to Coinbase or Binance it almost always has a pump because it leads to more audience and more whales use those exchanges.

Another is usually if there is a large volume and usually some bots and monitors pick it up. They see the volume and want to get in as soon as possible and they usually buy in. Then what happens is the coin usually appears in the "Most Volume" or "Most gainers" and usually other traders will see it is rising, see its up 50% and they think it will go to 100% so they all buy in.

Another area is when its promoted on Reddit, Bitcointalk, and Crypto twitter or by some paid groups. Usually this has tons of people FOMO into the coin like everyone did with Sushi or Link or UNI and its why we saw these crazy 20-30% moves.
4838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.1c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: September 25, 2020, 02:58:45 AM
Hi, I use rx 470 and at start miner windows block access to gpu.
I disable windows defender but still not work.

Basically at first it deletes the file, so what you need to do is go to your quarantined files and there is an option to restore and add to exclusion. If the file is not there then what you can do is when you are downloading it, usually chrome will block it from opening, you need to manually find the file in your downloads and open it from there and the directory that you extract it to OR the executable file name you need to add to your exclusion list.

Another issue is sometimes if you use any aftermarket firewall, you will need to add the ports because it might get automatically blocked. If it doesn't have access to the internet it won't work. You don't need to enable port 3333 that is only if you plan on using the remote monitoring. So you can check on your phone or remotely look at your stats if you are using a headless type of setup .
4839  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1 Billion in Bitcoin Options Expire Friday. on: September 25, 2020, 02:47:30 AM
every now and then there are some options that are expiring with different total amounts (by the way you forgot to mention the source for that $1 billion amount which is weird) but the market never cares. there are times that some people panic and some other times that they don't so we don't even see that small panic move. but one thing is always certain, we can't predict what the next market move is going to be specially at times like this.
We have like every 3 months bitcoin options expiry right? And in the past it wasn't even sensationalized or at least it was not given any attention so it doesn't have any impact at the market at all. Although this is huge amount $1 billion, so maybe the market will just swallow this kind of news just like in the past and the effect will not be felt at all. So I don't see any panic here and it couldn't make any difference at all.

The only type of options expiry data that have ever helped me in the past was with forex option expiry analysis. There was a website called forexlive and they posted any large forex options that expire. They had strong options such as touch options so if it just touched the number before expiry it would get executed.

I would use this info to my knowledge and if near expiry I saw something strange then I would maybe make a trade off it. I remember once right before expiry the EURUSD pair was going down about 9 mins to go. It had a large decline and I assumed "What if someone is pushing it down to trigger the option" so I waited until expiry and then to my surprise it started to go up almost instantely at the dot. So I joined the trade and made some decent money with little drawdown.

I am sure I wasn't the only trader that paid attention to the option data and profited off it. However out of 100 large option expiry's there was maybe 5 that actually worked out the rest did nothing .
4840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: cryptcurrency arbitrage any ideas? on: September 24, 2020, 06:48:33 AM
I think what he is referring to is to try and profit off some type of premium some types of countries and currencies might have. Remember the "Kimchi" premium back in 2017. Basically it was trading at a 10% premium in that country and people were trying to arbitrage. However they later learn't its not so easy.

What the issue was is that you can easily sell your bitcoin to someone at 10% profit however getting that money out of the country hit a road block because of capital controls in that country. And even if you found some way around it, you would have to be at least a citizen of that country to be able to open a bank account in the first place to do a wire transfter. Hence it wasn't possible hence why the premium existed.

So these arbitrages are just not possible to profit off these days.
