507  Economy / Auctions / Signature space - Global Moderator - 6100+ posts - around 100 posts/month on: September 04, 2018, 09:26:28 PM
I'm auctioning off my signature. I make on average around 100 posts per month. The rules for this auction are:

  • No NSFW content.
  • No scams or shady businesses.
  • No [glow] tags.
  • I have the right to reject bids or advertisements. You can offer a different one of course.
  • I have the right to shorten, extend, restart or cancel the auction at any point in time.
  • If a user's rank is lower than Member and the bid increase (compared to the last valid bid) is bigger than 0.01 BTC, he has to send in the bid (or the increase if it's not the user's first bid) to 3PL5BStNmwzn8YfEfx4NX2vm5ZYgyeJ92c or the bid is invalid. If the user in question doesn't win the auction, the bid amount minus the miner fee (may vary; depends on current state of Bitcoin) will be sent back.
  • If the service turns out to be a scam, I'll remove the ad and your money will not be refunded.
  • The auction winner must provide payment and the signature ad code within 48 hours of a request via PM.
  • Your signature will have an "Advertisement: " text before it, a notice and should fit within the following example:

Quote

Advertisment:
<Advertisement here>
|  Some sort of
|  text of mine
  |  Websites advertised in my signature are not endorsed by me.
  |  Advertise in my signature

The minimum bid is 0.03 BTC, the bids should be evenly divisible by 0.01 BTC. The auction will end on September 28th when this thread is closed if there is at least 1 valid bid. If there isn't one, it'll end 3 days after the first valid bid is placed. The winner's advertisement will run for 1 month.

Examples for both valid and invalid bids:
Quote
0.03 BTC <------- VALID
0.02 BTC <------- INVALID, lower than minimum bid

0.04 BTC <------- VALID
0.035 BTC <------- INVALID, bid is not evenly divisible by 0.01 BTC

0.10 BTC <------- VALID
0.2556642 BTC <------- INVALID,  bid is not evenly divisible by 0.01 BTC

P.S. Custom offers (that DO NOT include me removing either of the advertisement notices ("Advertisment:") or ("Websites advertised in my signature are not endorsed by me.") ) are welcome via PM though keep in mind that the price of advertising will be much higher.

510  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs honest mistakes: BAN or nuance? on: September 03, 2018, 04:26:30 PM
There's usually telltale signs if a user was misquoting (the odd [/quote] tag, context within the post, strange formatting) rather than plagiarizing. I mean adding "" isn't that difficult, even when typing on a phone. theymos even recently unbanned a user that he deemed to have only misquoted content rather than plagiarizing it:

OK, he's unbanned. He did post quotes without attribution, but I'm convinced that he wasn't doing this to pad his post count or anything like that, and he just failed to quote & attribute in the proper manner.

So if you make mistakes but your intentions weren't to profit off of other people's hard work, the possibility of getting your account unbanned isn't completely out of the question.

I'm trying to understand here, now I do several bounties of different types... I follow the instructions given on the bounty thread on bitcointalk but then it seems the bounties can ask us to do the tasks but the fellony here is when we do them??
Ask yourself this: if someone assists someone else in breaking the forum's rules, should they get punished as well? Cause the answer is quite clear to me.

Quote
Or maybe I got banned for something other than posting my weekly bounty tasks? (I  either do bounties or engage in chat about Alt/btc)
Since you haven't posted which account of yours got banned I can't say what bounty specifically you were banned for but it was probably an airdrop you participated in that required you to do a few quick tasks and post a proof of participation post in their thread.

Quote
Another thing I find difficult to understand is, who says which task is a "Low effort" task?? I mean... I was doing an Altcoin- Facebook (Like/share) bounty : It must be done no more than 24 hours after the post (so I keep loging in) and have a file down paste them until I have a decent amount to post on the thread not to mention that I do an original post with Images "occasionally",
See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0:

23. When deciding if a user has broken the rules, the staff have the right to follow their interpretation of the rules.
The thread linked in your ban clearly lays out numerous examples of what's considered low effort.

Quote
I also do Signature bounty and for it I'm required to Post 15 times+  on BCT, So to me the signature bounty is lower effort than the Facebook one.
I wonder why...  Roll Eyes

So yeah, other than being a Crypto enthusiast who spends much of his time Reading, trading, doing bounties/airdrops talking with other Crypto freaks I'm just trying to make an extra buck in this difficult Crypto season, I was not expected to find hurdles as such.
They're called rules. Every community has them.

Quote
I do not want to redo whatever wrong I did again, but I need to know exactly what It was, so If anyone can tell me if it was indeed the "facebook" bounty? thats considered a giveaway?
Reread the linked thread. If that's not clear enough, I don't think anything I'd say will be.

Quote
If so maybe the crypto startups and bounty managers should not have the right to put them as a task on bitcointalk threads to begin with?
They get banned as well.

This forum is by far the most valuble for crypto, but guys dont take away our liberties to such extents, Its not like I was selling fake stuff or bullying/insulting everyone... Just helping a new crypto promote while making a little token WIN/WIN why would Bitcointalk not WIN too?
Bitcointalk strives to be a place for enthusiasts of cryptocurrency to engage with each other, not a hub for clueless spammers that destroy any board they post in.

519  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: August 28, 2018, 12:52:07 AM
Should any icon also indicate (by background or shading) the percentage of good reports?

0-25%   no background
25-75%   half background
75%-100%   full background
From the report page:

Quote
Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports

Which is why I doubt theymos would want to put any sort of emphasis on the percentage of good reports, even if it's just badges.

Still, there is a difference between 300 reports where 1/4 are good, and 3/4 are good.  That difference increases at 2,000 reports...

I agree a small number of inaccurate reports don't mean anything - but should someone who posts 1,000 spam reports wear the same badge as someone who posts 1,000 accurate reports?
I don't theymos is planning to include bad or unhanded reports in the badge calculation. From OP:

Quote
Maybe one for 300 good reports, one of 1000, and one for 5000

520  Other / Meta / Re: FAO MODS: Why not charge a fee to recover hacked accounts? on: August 28, 2018, 12:33:38 AM
Wasn't Theymos working on a system that would allow us to regain control of our account by email? Something similar to the possibility to lock our account when the email and password were changed. Wasn't it supposed to be added very soon?
AFAIK he did mention something of sort (bit too lazy to actually search for the specific post). It has been a while though so I wouldn't hold my breath on it coming out any time soon.

Did Theymos pre-announce any of his previous projects, like Merit?

We have no idea what he is working on or what he might announce tomorrow.
My memory's spotty, but he might've for some features (especially if they affect moderation), however, for most stuff, we usually find out as soon as the rest of the forum does. So if there's gonna be an automated account recovery feature, I'll probably find out as soon as everyone else.
